Welcome to the Village
Date of Scene: 13 November 2019
Location: Greenwich Village, Manhattan
Synopsis: An impromptu public performance in Greenwich Village
Cast of Characters: Jazz, Daredevil, Morrigan MacIntyre

Jazz has posed:
The Village, Greenwich Village, is a wonderful part of New York. Everything's so close, that it's a community unto itself. There's Washington Square Park, bagels and coffee shops, architecture, shopping, live music at night, comedy, bars, and most of all, atmosphere.

That's what brought Benjamin S. Cruthers here. The man was a sharply dressed African American, wearing a grey turtle neck, under a black and white chequered coat, which was only buttoned low, giving a long v neck. He had a black scarf hanging around his neck, but left untied. Below that, he had white trousers, and black athletic trainers endorsed by the latest basketball star. His hair was kept short, with a fade near his ears and the back.

He was currently leaning against a very expensive looking sports car, as he snapped his fingers, listening to a man playing the saxophone for money. Joining in, he began to sing to the tune, "I'm never gonna dance again, guilty feet have got no rhythm. Though it's easy to pretend, I know you're not a fool."

Daredevil has posed:
Contrary to popular belief not all of Matt's clients lived in Hell's Kitchen and today's was in Greenwich, he was making a bit of a house call to Mrs. Furgerson who'd engaged the firm to represent her son in an assault beef, it was a tiring meeting, explaining that while he was more than willing to go to the wall to see her son got a fair trial, he was still guilty of the crime and the best course of action was to let him negotiate the best possible deal.

She didn't want to hear it, and while losing a client might have been a catastrophe a few months ago, now, it was something he could take with little more than a shrug and a shake of his head.

However the sound of the sax and someone singing along did lift his spirits a little and so he pauses, out of the way of pedestrians to lean on his cane and listen.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan had just came out of one of the cafes with a to go coffee in her hands. The weather was not being kind, so the redhead was bundled up in a black long coat, purple scarf and black gloves. Under that were her normal everyday jeans and long sleeve t-shirt. The woman was still wearing sunglasses, even if it was dark. She was heading up the block for her apartment building, but the sound of the sax stops her as she makes her way up the street.

She stands off to the side and listens while other people go around her and there's a bit of a smile. She takes a sip of her coffee as she stands there, seeming content to enjoy the music before she'd make the rest of the walk home.

Jazz has posed:
When the song ends, Benjamin S. Cruthers or so his identification claimed him to be, took a step away from the Porsche he had been leaning on, into the middle of the throng. "Can I get a hand for my man," then turning to the musician, he asked in a lower tone, "hey, what's your name?" The man answered Mark Burnett. Benjamin asked, "like the producer?" And that elicited a nod.

"Can I get a hand for my man Mark Burnett here?" He tried to work the crowd, shaking hands, giving high fives, and making fist bumps, depending on what people were doing. The coin box was growing as people added bills and coins. Then, Mr. Cruthers said, "let's see if I can help set the mood," and then, he reached into his jacket pocket, pressing what seemed to be a remote.

Curiously, the remote had not existed in his pocket before. There had been no bulge. It was empty, and then it was there. But who could have known that? As he pressed buttons, part of the car's rear opened, and some fancy lighting seemed to emerge, decorating the nearby buildings with a bit of a light show that seemed in tune with the music as the next song began.

Daredevil has posed:
Matt smiles as the music plays, letting himself get lost in it for awhile before the song comes to an end, and he shifts his cane in order to applaud. Hearing the high fives being given out and Benjamin walking around, Matt lets himself step back with an air of uncertainty, bumping gently against Morrigan by way of starting a conversation, "Oh, sorry," he says "Are you okay?" he asks her. "Just wasn't sure what was happening, sorry to bump into you."

More than that though he was studying Benjamin as he passed, there was something odd about him, no heartbeat and he didn't /feel/ right.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a round of applause for Mark, her gloved hands smacking together and making a small sound as opposed to those that have bare hands. The fancy lighting makes her squint just a little behind her sunglasses, but it was nice to not have a gloomy night.

When the man with the cane bumps into her, the womans hands come up to help steady him, "Nothing to be sorry about, I'm alright." the woman with the Irish accent tells him. "And it happens, are you alright?" she asks him.

"I've never encountered an impromptu concert of sorts before, guess I need to get out more." she muses to that.

Jazz has posed:
Benjamin S. Cruthers once again provided lyrics to the songs, even if he clearly didn't look like he needed the money, Mike Burnett did. The actual performer's clothes were far more ratty, old, and not nearly as stylish, but it was nice to have someone helping him.

"Winding your way down on Baker Street, light in your head and dead on your feet. Well, another crazy day, you'll drink the night away, and forget about everything. This city desert makes you feel so cold, it's got so many people, but it's got no soul. And it's taken you so long, to find out you were wrong, when you thought it held everything." It was the 1978 Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty.

He didn't know that Mr. Murdock had found something off about him, but to the crowd at least, most of them just thought it was great fun.

Daredevil has posed:
Matt didn't know the new song like he knew 'Careless Whisper' but it was well played and well sung. He leans against the fence by one of the brownstones that lined the street as he talked below the music to Morrigan. "I'm fine, just sorry I bumped you," he says, extending a hand to her. "I'm Matthew Murdock," he says before smiling, "Same, on both counts," he says of the concert and of getting out more often. "Great music though," he admits with a smile for for Benjamin and Paul.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan listens to the music with a little tap of her toes, because it was catchy. She then gives a look to Matt, "I've had worse people bump into me, Mister Murdock." she tells him with a smile. "Not...saying that you are bad or anything." she adds quickly. She takes the offered hand, giving a companiable shake, "I'm Doctor Morrigan MacIntyre. I've heard of you before, mostly stuff out of Hell's Kitchen." she admits. "And yeah, it is really good music." she tells him softly.

"I'm guessing you make house calls as well?" she asks Matt.

Jazz has posed:
The saxophonist had some serious skills, way too much to be playing for change. Next up, was a saxophone cover of a little known song by a band from London. Even Benjamin S. Cruthers didn't pick up on it immediately, but soon joined in, providing the lyrics. It was a damn good impersonation, almost too good. In point of fact, Jazz was deliberately not emulating it. He was doing his best with his synthesiser to make it sound similar, really good, but not perfect. Being perfect was a dead give away. And he was trying to lay low, or at least as low as Jazz ever liked to lay.

"I see a little silhouetto of a man. Scaramouche, Scaramouche, will you do the Fandango? Thunderbolt and lightning, very, very frightening me." And then he went into doing two different voices for Galileo. "(Galileo) Galileo, (Galileo) Galileo, Galileo Figaro magnifico."

Daredevil has posed:
Matt can hear the smile in Morrigan's voice and he returns it, "I dunno, I've had my bad moments," he jokes lightly before his brows raise at her having heard of him, "Guess my reputation proceeds me," he says as he shakes her hand in a firm grip and a hand with a few too many calluses for someone with a desk job. "I do," he says of house calls, "And you? Live around here or were you just visiting a patient?"

The song changes and Matt smiles, "This one I know," he remarks to Morrigan. "Are they taking tips? I figure I owe them some if they are."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a smile at the next song that comes up and she's completely onboard with the choice. It was Queen, who didn't love it?! She then looks to Matt and there's a bit of an amused sound from the woman, "I think we've all had our bad moments, Mister Murdock and we are allowed to have them." she points out gently. "I tend to keep up with the news in Hell's Kitchen and other places that the Punisher likes to shoot up." she admits. "I was on my way home. I just live up the block." she tells him.

Then there's a look around, "It seems that they are." she smiles to that. "Need some help with that?" she asks him. "I think I'll give them one as well." she nods to this.

Jazz has posed:
After every song, Benjamin J. Cruthers was going around, giving Mike Burnett a hand, trying to pump up the crowd, and while he wasn't directly asking for money, he was shaking the hand of everyone who helped him out by putting money in the open case on the ground.

The next song was a saxophone cover of I'm So Excited by the Pointer Sisters, and once more, he provided some backup vocals, but was doing his best to augment, without overshadowing the man in need. "Tonight's the night we're gonna make it happen. Tonight we'll put all other things aside. Give in this time and show me some affection. We're goin' for those pleasures in the night. I want to love you, feel you, wrap myself around you. I want to squeeze you, please you, I just can't get enough. And if you move real slow, I'll let it go."

Daredevil has posed:
Right? Who doesn't like Queen? Especially when you've got super hearing.

There's a smile for the bit about the bad moments, but there's no missing the reaction to the name: Punisher. The smile fades and becomes a serious line, "I've heard he's dangerous," he says in a not so convincing display of disinterest. "And why the interest in the Punisher? I'd figure most people would want nothing to do with a psycho like that."

Another good song! Matt's toes are tapping as he digs for his wallet. "You don't mind?" he asks Morrigan. "Then yeah," he produces his wallet and feels his way through the neatly folded bills finding one of the double folded ones, a twenty. He produces it and hands it over, "Thanks," he says of Morrigan putting it down or him.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a look up when the next song starts and there's a bit of a headshake, "They're playing all the hits tonight." she murmurs to Matt. His super hearing doesn't need to feel like he's being yelled at. She digs money out of her bag while she listens to him.

"He's...complicated." she shakes her head. "And I've been in the crossfire a few times when he was shooting. A guy tried to use me in Harlem as a hostage and I still can't hear very well out of my left ear from the sound of the bullet that went through that guys skull." she admits. She shudders involuntarily at the memory.

"And no, I don't mind." she tells him as she takes the offered money and then makes her way to drop the two twenties in the tip jar. She then returns to stand by Matt, "Are you working on anything interesting these days?" she asks him.

Jazz has posed:
When Morrigan puts in the money from Matt and herself, she gets a hearty handshake from Benjamin S. Cruthers, who even says, "god bless," damn, he is good. But then he is a cultural investigator. His role is to learn about new cultures, and he's even picked up such things as that a lot of people in the position are religious, or at least claim to be. The one glaring exception to his disguise is that he is too well dressed, and the car doing the light show, but then his cover story is that he was a passerby, someone of clear musical talent, joining in.

He even goes over to shake Matt Murdock's hand, having hearing on par, or at least in the vicinity of what Matt Murdock has. "Thank you, sir. I'm sure Mr. Burnett will appreciate it." All of which was being said quietly during a saxophone solo.

After that song is over, Mike pulls Benjamin over and says he's going to be taking a break after the next song, which happens to be All of Me by John Legend. "I dig your style," Benjamin says, before singing, including the section that goes, "'Cause all of me, loves all of you. Love your curves and all your edges. All your perfect imperfections. Give your all to me. I'll give my all to you. You're my end and my beginning. Even when I lose I'm winning. 'Cause I give you all, all of me. And you give me all, all of you."

Daredevil has posed:
Matt nods, "Sounds like it, good strategy for a little show like this," he opines smiling as the next song starts, he knows this one too and he smiles, "Shame my friend who lives down here is out of town, this is her and her boyfriend's song," he says fondly.

That fondness fades a little as the topic turns to Castle again, "Saved your life?" he asks though that's pretty clear by the context cues. "Sounds like you talked to him a bit too," he says. "I have as well, and complicated is definitely one word for him."

Matt says, "I'm general counsel for the X-Corporation," he says. "They keep my life pretty interesting, they're working to make sure mutants have a fair shake in the job market, lots of labour law stuff, which can be dry, but the cause is worth it. How about you, what sort of medicine do you practice?"

As for Jazz, he's doing an excellent job, so much so that Matt's scrutiny has faded away, just accepting the strange results his senses gave him as the man being some sort of mutant or meta. Besides, the guy had a great voice, so what difference did a lack of a heartbeat make, after all Elektra's heart didn't beat either anymore.

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan gives a smile to the god bless, but, do half vampires really feel like that? Not most days. She returns to Matt's side and there's a smile to him. "And yes, he did. I seem to have a penchant for running into all kinds of masked heroes or vigilantes these days." she chuckles to that.

"I just offered to patch him up if he ever needed it. Don't tell anyone though." she muses quietly. "He didn't say much after that. Just kind of did his grunting running down the alley shctick." she shakes her head. "I'm the Director of Pathology at Mount Sinai. I'm also specialed in Hematology. So Blood born pathogens and all that gruesome stuff." she tells him.

"It's good that others are helping Mutants. They get a really bad wrap. I mean...some of them are terrifying, but, most are just trying to live their life." she states.

Jazz has posed:
And with the last song over, Mike Burnett closes up the case, doing what he needs to do to secure his stuff, and will head to a coffee shop to warm up, get a hot beverage, and maybe a bagel before continuing. Benjamin J. Cruthers turns off the light show, though not before making sure that Mike Burnett gets a big hand from the crowd. Having successfully blended in, helped someone's day, as Mike likely earned more from that little spell than he had all week, he will do what he has to, which isn't a whole lot. He'd head over to the Porsche, hop into the driver's seat, and rev up the engine. It sounded pretty impressive. That thing was made for the Autobahn. In fact, anyone who knew cars really well might recognise it as being a designed for course driving only. This one had a few enhancements, making it street legal. It even had New York licence plates, though they would not check out. He just copied them from a car he passed by.

Daredevil has posed:
"Unless one's standing around listening to this music right now, it must be your day off from meeting costumed vigilantes," Matt smiles he couldn't resist the joke, even if he was the only one to get it.

"Your secret is safe with me," he says about offering to patch up the Punisher, and he dips his hand into his pocket to produce a card, running his fingers over it to figure out which side the print was on before handing it over. "Might want to take my card though, just in case," he says after all the Punisher was not the police's favourite person.

"Oh you're /that/ Dr. MacIntyre, I've heard some of your reports read in court, very thurough stuff," he says with a nod. "Must make for an interesting job though, between pathology and hemotology."

As for the mutants? He nods, "Felt someone had to stick up for their rights and as it happened, X-Corp was looking for counsel."

As the little concert packs up, Matt applauds them both, "Great show," he tells them before the car's engine begins to roar and he smiles, "Maybe you did meet another vigilante today, that car sounds like the one they say Batman drives."

Morrigan MacIntyre has posed:
Morrigan watches the Porche roll off and there's a sigh, maybe she should spend some of her fortune on a car. Then there's a look to Matt and his words make those eyebrows of hers quirk up, "Yeah, that would be something, right?" she muses to him.

She takes the card that is offered and there's a smile, "Thank you, I'm sure if we need any legal counsel you'll be the first person I call. I actually don't have a lawyer on retainer and I've been meaning to fix that." she admits. Then she gives a nod, "Aye, that Doctor MacIntyre. I get some really odd things that come through my lab." she states. "I like my job. I have a sun allergy so it lead me to my job really." she explains.

"I wish I could do more for them." she agrees on the Mutant talk. "I'm not a Mutant Pathologist or anything, but, if any of them need a doctor, feel free to give them my name." she tells him. Then there's a soft laugh, "I'm guessing we can't walk a block and throw a rock without hitting someone that's wearing a mask on their off hours." she states. "Speaking of walking, I should get going home. It was nice to meet you, Mister Murdock." she sounds sincere and that smile surely is.

Daredevil has posed:
"Definitely," Matt agrees, "Not everyone gets the hits sung to them by Batman." He chuckles at the thought.

There's a smile when she mentions not having a lawyer on retainer, "Well, give me a call sometime and we can fix that," he says. "Always happy to take on new clients, especially ones with good taste in music."

"Sorry to hear that," Matt says about her allergy, "But glad it lead you to a job you enjoy."

"I will pass on your name to the folks I work with in Mutant Town, I think they'd really appreciate any help you could give," he says earnestly. "Nice to meet you too, Dr. MacIntyre," he says unable to see the smile but he can hear it in her voice. He returns a similar smile himself. "And hope we'll get a chance to meet again sometime," he offers before adding wryly. "Maybe Wonder Woman will sing next time."
