Date of Scene: 23 March 2020
Location: Lobby, Titans Tower
Synopsis: Kory and Drake Riley meet again after a while - but a clash about the Silkie ends things on a sour note.
Cast of Characters: Volt, Starfire

Volt has posed:
Times have been quiet in the Tower lately. The quietest it's been since Volt joined the group. But the tradeoff is that most of the mainstays (as far as he's aware) are off handling their own personal situations. And that means most /all/ of them. It's weird, going from a somewhat dysfunctional but sizeable group of reliable faces, to silent halls almost entirely to himself.

It's to such a point that Volt isn't even bothering with his costume at the moment. The teen is reclined on a chair in the lobby, his communicator in his hand, tapping through some information. Local happenings. Gossip.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r sighs as she floats in from the stairway, cradling a large cup of what is probably mustard. She flops on a sofa, sighing softly. "I don't like this place anymore... it's so quiet..." she murmurs. "I should just live on the roof or something. She glances over. "Friend Drake. Hello."

Volt has posed:
Friend Drake lulls his gaze aside at the unfamiliar voice, and he blinks at the sight of Kori. He met her once. A long, long time ago. He was, however, aware of her association with this group.

"Huh. Do you actually remember me? Or did you just check out the roster?," he asks. There's no offense behind his face, just genuine curiosity. He adjusts his position in the chair, crossing his right leg over his left knee. "I don't know if I even got your name back then. But I definitely remember ya."

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r nods. "I went over the roster recently," she muses softly, clicking her tongue. "It's... a lot smaller of late. I am Koriand'r. And... I hear that last line a lot. Everyone rmeembers me for they find me very attractive for the most part. And unique."

Volt has posed:
Drake Riley gives her a bemused smirk at her response. It sounds so clinical from her. But he lilts wryly, "Little tall for my taste." Otherwise, she's hot as the sun. Can't tell her that, though. She might have an ego!

"But hey, I was wondering when I'd meet some of the others. Guess it took most of the regulars having to take off for their own thing before it'd happen, eh?"

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r just blinks. "I haven't heard any calls on the communicators..." she murmurs. "I just am... well..." She clicks her tongue. "I just... am wondering where all of our friends went. Like they all went somewhere special and didn't invite us."

Volt has posed:
Drake Riley glances down to the communicator in his hand, then back to Kori. He lifts to his full height and pockets the device. "Nah, they didn't send a broadband message on it. And details were hard to process, everyone's stuff came up all at the same time. I think Star had some interstellar thing to do. Robin was called back to a family situation in Gotham. Uh..." His head tips back. "I never met Vorpal."

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r shrugs. "He was a bit of a jerk. As was Amarok." She shrugs softly. "I just wish they could've told me. Maybe they figured i might have to go to Tamaran to lead the resistance but Tyran'tar is handlign that."

Volt has posed:
Drake Riley blinks owlishly at the information drop, and he suddenly barks a laugh. "Like I said! Stuff I don't really know enough about to, like, parse!"

The merriment dims, however, and he moves over to the sofa upon which she's flopped, and he leans down with an outstretched hand to set to her shoulder. Should she allow, he'll give a gentler smile. "It sucks. I know. I didn't have as much time with'em as you did, but when I joined, I /finally/ found where I could belong. Something to be a part of, where what I did could matter. Like life was going somewhere. So I don't mean to downplay it."

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r just leans against you, sighing softly. "I just do not know what I am to do. Even the villains seem to be quiet of late." She then smiles up at you. "Want some?" she asks, offering her glass of mustard. She then squeees as she sees the Silkie trotting out, hearing her. "Oh, the Silkie came to find me," she coooos, smiling happily.

Volt has posed:
Drake Riley squeezes the shoulder gently. "Yeah. You'n me both," he admits. "Best we can do right now is keep our ear to the ground. If the villains'n criminals are taking a breather, we'll keep vigil. We make sure when they pop out of their hidey-holes, we're ready for'em. But we can't stop appearances. People have to know we're still on watch, y'know? Also, what the heck is a Silkie?"

The question is blended seamlessly in the speech, and with his hand still on Kori's shoulder, he turns his head to try to follow her gaze.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r nods slowly. "Yes - we'll keep the Tower warm and ready for htem..." And soon enough, an insect-larva-like thing the size of a pug wriggles and tries to get up on the sofa and Kory picks it up. "This is the Silkie. Isn't it the cutest little bumgorf you've ever seen?"

Volt has posed:
"Whoanow!," yelps Drake in surprise as the gross bug thing makes its appearance. It looks like a giant tick! Or something! "That's a.. a bumgorf? What's a bumgorf? Is that an alien? A monster?," he asks, completely at a loss for this thing to which she seems so affectionately attached.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r cradles the love bug to her bosom. "It's alien as I am. It's a pet from my homeworld. We go way back - I stole him from the warden at the prison I escaped from. He had no further needs of material goods - I almost kept the warden's head too but it was making a drippy mess." She glares at you. "You're going to hurt the Silkie's feelings - nad mine. Apologize."

Volt has posed:
Drake Riley regards her as though she were the alien she actually is. And the haughty attitude that seems to come with it isn't lost on him. Does he allow her to make demands on him like this? Or should he expect her to have some understanding in a human's reaction to something clearly not of this world? This has come up before. And did he really say anything that bad?

Okay, maybe monster. But it looks like a monster!

As it happens, he really doesn't like being put on the defensive over something that seems so trivial, so trite. He's not a whipping boy. That dynamic will /never/ happen again. But for the sake of maintaining peace and not really knowing how explosive the alien chick could be, he relents. "Okay. Sorry," he replies dryly. He continues to ease some steps back from her and the weird creature; now not only bcause it's gross and odd, but because it's an immediate catalyst for division.

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r nods. "Thank you. I just don't like it when people insult other beings just for their appearance." She sets the Silkie down. "Been up to any heroics lately?" she asks, slurping more mustard.

Volt has posed:
"You should maybe try to be more understanding of what planet you're on," Drake chides.

By this point, he's moved a couple pieces of furniture's length away from her. That previous offering of mustard has been completely buried and pushed out of his mind now, replaced with newfound tension. No one in the Tower ever seems to just get along, he's noticed. "Just patrols. That's all. Nothing to write home about. Smalltime crooks."

Starfire has posed:
Koriand'r just sighs softly, rubbing her head. "I should go then - I... I think I offended you." She sighs again, shaking her head, as she snags the Silkie and starts to trudge out.

Volt has posed:
That's fine. They could likely use a bit of a reset after that tension. And she isn't wrong, being told to apologize did rub him wrong. His left hand raises, palm up. "Alright. Be safe, and take it easy," he offers in finale.
