2nd Fungus Strike!
Date of Scene: 26 July 2018
Location: Latveria
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Astrid, Hulk, Captain Marvel (Danvers), Slipstream
Tinyplot: Germination

Astrid has posed:
The 'Mushrooms' around Latveria had nearly covered the entire country, but recent news has said that one Mushroom has fallen thanks to a join strike team of Avengers and JLA members. Now aboard a Quinjet another select group of heroes nears another mushroom in Latveria. And from the Quinjet, they can see the numerous Cthulu-like monsters that are protecting the mushroom.

Riding aboard the Quinjet is Astrid, one of the Asgardians who has taken Midgard as her new home. Glad am I that you all have joined me on this mission. These aliens should not attempt to tamper with Midgard as they have. From what Stark has told us, they only get more powerful with fire, most energies that rememble the sun's power. I, personally have seen Ice work well against them, but I have also seen that Sonic attacks stun them. There are swords provided by the Titans that freeze, as well as a pistol....for those of you who only have energy attacks, and fear making them stronger. Those of you who can use Ice attacks, use them frequently....."

Hulk has posed:
Normally, the Hulk would be jumping cross country instead of flying in a Quinjet, but given he's not quite aware of the exact location that needs to be dealt with, the ten foot green giant has been uncomfortably packed into the cargo area.

Not uncomfortable due to height... but because the Hulk is not known for his patience, or with sitting still for hours. He's been occasionally seen taking small things and toying with them; usually ending up with smashed bits of steel and other material... which has by this point made a small pile around his feet.

By the time they reached their destination, the Hulk has been growling in frustration, "Hulk will just smash. Don't need fancy human things for that." Hulk states dismissively as he waits at the cargo door in the back as it lowers.

His nanotech based blue pants crumple briefly, before he jumps out of the back, heading for land without a parachute.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol is wearing her Captain Marvel uniform, and unless she was contested by others, she would have elected to fly the Quinjet. It's not often she get to handle a flight stick these days, after all, and like an addict, she misses it dearly. "I got the intel on the fungus creature, what's the deal with the minions?" Carol apparently doesn't have an immediate Cthulu connection, her variant is much cuter.

"I feel at home with a pistol, already grabbed me one." Carol notes as Astrid specifies the weapon selection on hand for those the fungi are impervious to.

Slipstream has posed:
Strapped into the plane is the youngest Avenger on the team, Slipstream. He is dressed in his usual uniform that consists of an Avenger bomber jacket, black jeans and a simple black shirt. He has a backpack next to him with Snowball sticking out of it as a carry on passenger. On his hip is pair of freeze weapons that has been assigned to him to battle the fungus. He is bouncing one knee up and down quickly with nervous energy, wringing his hands together.

Astrid has posed:
Astrid looks at the Hulk as he begins to jump out the back. "Just leave alone the main...." And Hulk jumps out the back. ".....stalk. Blast." She then takes a deep breath. "Marvel, make sure you grab those swords. You'll be delivering the toxins to the main stalk. I'll provide as much covering fire as possible." She then looks to Slipstream....JUST as one of the tentacle beasts splats against the window of the Quinjet. "Get the Quinjet clear, mortal." She yells to the pilot. "Come Slipstream. A giant needs to be chopped down." She says as she leaps out the back herself, her wings deploying as she falls, taking on some of the tentacle beasts along the way, freezing them easily.

Once outside, it's a madhouse. The pilot flew straight into the 'cloud' of tentacle beasts and is JUST turning away from the path he's taken. Hulk is immediately beset by a swarm of them, since they know he's an immediate threat. Astrid gains a couple that don't attack Hulk immediately, but she puts an arrow into one, and the burst freezes it, and the two around it. True to her word, she IS trying to give some covering fire.

Slipstream has posed:
Drake plucks up the toxin canister and watches as everyone leaps out the back. ".. I can't fly!" He calls out as he rubs the back of his neck. ".. Do.. do I get a parachute.. or ... something... and she's gone.." He trails off, then takes a deep breath as he picks up his backpack and clings it over his shoulders.

Hulk has posed:
"Hulk bored of mushroom things. Go home or Hulk SMASH!" One punch sends one flying, then another. With a roar as dozens more come, Hulk is hacked, bitten, and tentacled, disappearing underneath a massive assault already.

Or at least he was, before he stomps the ground over, and over, and over... sending minor earthquakes locally as the Hulk starts to beat his way out of the pile of beasts trying to tear him apart.

Hulks going to be busy for about a minute from the sheer volume of them, and every few seconds a new squidling is sent flying as he beats his way out, his angry roars muffled under the weight.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
Carol grabs a canister of her own, and then steps up to Drake, "need a ride on the way down?" She asks, but doesn't really wait for his reply, it's obvious he needs one. She grabs him around the waist in one arm, and then jumps out of the Quinjet, before they start their flight towards the huge stalk, "so...haven't been around you much yet, you being new and all, remind me...what's your party trick?" She asks Drake, clearly making plans on the go.

Slipstream has posed:
"I have really good hand to eye accuracy as a hitscan or projectile firearms expert, and I can blink in and out of the speed force at about eight hundred miles an hour. I sorta skip like a rock. So fast you can't see me. Oh, and if I use my powers too much they kill me." Drake says as he holds up his left wrist to show a device strapped to it with a LED display. "Blue through yellow is okay. Orange means I'm in pain, red means I'm not coming back. I also have Stark created Snowball in the back. She monitors my health and has a ultimate attack called Blizzard in which she sucks the air out around her and converts it into an insta-freezing solution." He gives her a grin, then tugs the goggles over his eyes from his head. "In other words, I'm super fast and I don't miss a lot of shots because of muscle memory."

Astrid has posed:
There are a lot of monsters on Hulk, but the frequency of how quickly they're getting to him is slowing....cuz there aren't enough to even contain Hulk...only slow him down until the 'REAL' threats to Hulk actually make it to him....and they're slow, and Hulk is doing some damage. With one punch that knocks a squid-being into the air, about 10 are sent flying off of Hulk from the shockwave and stun from said shockwave. As Marvel and Slipstream near the base of the stalk, they WILL notice one of the 'Juggernauts' starting to come after them.....and that the base is a....bit larger than was previous reported. A look up show that the cap has....somehow melded to another cap. Even worse....Marvel can see that two of the Juggernauts are partly melded together. This could be trouble for the Hulk.

As Marvel and Slipstream fly down, they're joined by Astrid. "Have one of you go for the base of the Mushroom....and the other for the spawni-OOF!" the last part is where Astrid is tackled by a Flying Juggernaut, and almost goes to the ground, before her wings take her into the sky again and the monster is starting to get a lot of holes in it....from a suddenly appearing pair of swords from Astrid....

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Perfect...means you'll keep up with me, no need to be slow," Carol says before taking it to 11, at least speed wise, as she accelerates sufficently to leave no hope for the fungi and their guardians to lock on to her. At least while she moves, she hands her canister of toxin to Drake as well, so he has two. "Make sure to latch it to the giant one, we're going in like Skywalker in an X-Wing," and there goes the swoop on target.

Hulk has posed:
The sounds of roaring can be heard much easier as the pile on top of the Hulk thins out. After about a half minute, anyone near him can easily see the Hulk has grown two feet since he was buried... and he's starting to throw the squidlings four at a time by their tentacles into the horizon. Once he has enough room to actually move a bit, he brings up both massive arms and *SLAMS* them down into the ground. "HULK SMASH!" He roars, easily heard by the others.

This isn't just a side effect, but rather a concentrated, focused effort to cause destruction. A massive wave of earth and rock blasts out from the impact zone as the Hulk causes a crater where he stands, causing a large shockwave on it's own. Both to clear out the pile on him, and to give himself a bit of a radial clearance. He's out of sight for the moment from the massive dirt cloud the Hulk just smashed into being.

Slipstream has posed:
"Aye, aye, captain!" Drake calls out as he takes the second canister from her, preparing himself as he feels his cheeks flapping from the speed that rushes past his face. He takes in a slow breath and waits until they hit the ground. Reaching behind him, he taps Snowball on the head to wake her up, then blurs out of sight as he pushes off his foot. He blinks about at quick speeds, whipping out his freezing guns and sets it to 'shard' as he fires off long icicles into the monsters that approach by, spearing them as he looks to race towards the root of one of the large fungi to attach the canister.

Astrid has posed:
The giant wave of destruction can be felt more than heard from the Hulk, and the Shockwave is so massive it can be seen. the one super Juggernaut is barely fazed by the shockwave of destruction, and the one that had tackled Astrid is blown off of her. The ones that try to get to Danvers and Drake are left in the dust, quite literally as Marvel moves at Supersonic speeds, then sets Drake on the ground, who zips back and forth along the ground. A few of the flying monsters try to tackle Danvers, only to collide with each other when they flies in between them. Same happens with Drake as he pops in and out of existence to the monster's eyes, and when they try to grab him, he winks back out of existence, only to reappear a few feet away, rinse, repeat.

The 'Super' Juggernaut monster begins to bear down on Hulk, and try to actually out-muscle him. it might actually do a good job, if there wasn't for two problems.....

First, it's slow enough to receive an ice arrow to it's core, slowing it down a bit to let Hulk recover.

Second....it's too stupid to realize 'Hulk. is. Strongest.'

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
With speed proving quite the catalyst to negate the mushrooms effectiveness, Carol maintains her high speed, blurring about the battlefield. Leaving her to focus entirely on slowing down the juggernaut shroom as they wait for the canister to take hold, blasting it with the freezing shots of the pistol made precisely for that. As a benefit, she just loves watching the Hulk at work, not many things get nearly as destructive.

Hulk has posed:
Even with squidlings at his feet, they're more of an annoyance that's kept the Hulk busy... and growing. Now totaling fourteen feet, the Hulk can be seen as the dust settles throwing more squidlings.

Then, the squid juggernaut goes on a direct course for him... which the Hulk barely intercepts after throwing a squid back at the stalk. A thump can be heard as both massive green arms push right back at the monstrosity. It even manages to make the Hulk give ground as the Hulk roars in anger at it... and visibly grows to fifteen feet. "HULK STRONGER, MUSHROOM THING!"

By this point, the Hulk isn't even paying attention to the squidlings around his feet. They're just fueling the Hulks anger now, the tentacles and little tries at hurting him. The grapple is dead equal, with the Hulk spending his energy to try and pick the thing up, rather then overpowering it directly.

Slipstream has posed:
As he zips in and out of traffic, Drake's blinks become furiously faster as ice shards are fired out of thin air, striking down the enemy that comes by. As he approaches the God like root, he left to right zig zags, then pops out to slam the canister into the creature and sets the activation code with a tap of the fingers. Giving a salute of the brow, he blinks out again.

Near a cluster of black squidlins, Snowball launches into the air and a small cannon appears out from the bottom of her, releasing a spray of thick, wet, and quick freezing solution down upon them like rain. It billows out into a wide circle of about twenty by twenty feet, slowing them down until they become encased. From there, they can be shattered.

Astrid has posed:
The Juggernaut monster grappling with Hulk isn't smart enough to know what the Hulk is doing, just trying to overpower him directly. Many of the monsters that were going to stop the canisters are stopped rather quickly by SNowball's cylinder of freeze....and that's when the toxin canisters deliver a 'hiss' and begin to pump in their payload. The Spawning pool slowly changes from white to brown, and the Mushroom itself starts to squat in on itself, steadily turning brown itself. The effects are obvious on the rest of the monsters as they begin to shudder and slow down...visibly. Even the one wrestling with Hulk begins to slowly lose it's strength, which is a death sentence next to Hulk. Astrid stays out of the way for the time being, knowing that she won't need to do much else except keep the monsters away from the canisters. Which an arrow does by shattering a few of the monsters.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Good job, newbie," Carol half teases, half congratulates Drake for his action, as she switches targets to those creatures who might disrupt the toxins. Hulk is more than enough draw for the juggernaut creature, and Carol has her money on the Hulk every time.

Slipstream has posed:
"Thanks, Cap!" Drake calls out as he slides along an ice trail that he creates with one gun, while shooting down a few more squidlings with the other. Thunk-Thunk-Thunk! Snowball continues to soak up more air about her for round two as she floats after her companion with a n.n look upon her LED faceplate. He locks the sliding gun against his hip and hops off, stepping forward into the fray. "Man, the Hulk is fragging out!"

Hulk has posed:
Once the thing becomes weaker, the Hulk is easily able to bring the thing over his head with a roar... and promptly /tosses/ the entire thing directly into the ground, over, and over, and over.

And over.

Two birds with one stone, as it were, as the Hulk audibly smashes the small squidlings with the gigantic juggernaut squid with massive shockwaves from the impact.

Astrid has posed:
*splatsplatsplatsplat* Can be heard, along with the shockwaves Hulk is putting out, and the rest of the slowing and weakening monsters begin to disentegrate under Hulk's assault. Others begin to shatter outright from the icy assault, and the rest just...fall to the ground as the mushroom, despite it's joining with a second one, begins to die and lean over...with the second one leaning over as well and turning brown. Marvel has no problems dispatching the monsters, nor does SLipstream.

The Mushroom eventually does wither and rot....and eventually fall over......with the roots starting to wither up and show just how deep it went with the tunnels it shows underground.....

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"Awesome job, Hulk! That's quite a smashing!" Carol eggs the Hulk one, something she is usually advised against, but in this instance, is just perfect. "I think we have a problem as far as the depth of this problem, pun intended," she remarks to Drake, because Hulk wouldn't make much of it the way Banner would.

Slipstream has posed:
"Yeah?" Drake asks as he pops next to Carol again. "We talking 'bout getting to the 'root' of the issue?" He says with a waggle of his brows. Blowing the mist off the top of his gun, he spins it around, then holsters it on his hip.

Hulk has posed:
Once it becomes clear the stalks are dying, Hulk gives a grunt as he simply smashes all the squidlings around him into pulp, before tearing the juggernaut in his hands apart.... then /leaps/ up to the two massive dying stalks and begins to pummel them in, speeding up the process as he smashes them down into the ground, /making sure/ they're dead.

Astrid has posed:
And the mushrooms steadily becoming....squished...under Hulk's battery of punches....and Astrid flies down near Captain Marvel and Slipstream. Astrid actually yells out 'UPROOT THEM, HULK, IF YOU ARE ABLE!'. Astrid then looks behind then and taps an earpiece. Close close to land, driver, but be careful, the Hulk may be uprooting the pair we assaulted....

Hulk has posed:
"Hulk confused. Aren't mushroom things bad to uproot? Tin Man said they just grow more if Hulk does that." Hulk states into the commlink strapped to his head. "Hulk can pull them up easy." He declares as he jumps down to the base of one stalk... and starts to pull it out. A growl of anger can be heard as the gigantic stalk is leveraged and pulled out.

Captain Marvel (Danvers) has posed:
"That's the right idea, Hulk, just snatch those things out of the ground and we call it a day. You did good, the newbie did good, I guess we can all have a drink or whatever it is you guys do to celebrate a good day," Carol says with bravado, even though it was Hulk who faced the burnt of the opposition today.

Slipstream has posed:
Drake gives a speed burst fist pump. "Sweet. I've been pretty stoked to go on a mish with you, Cap. Tony has been wanting me to get involved in more big boy stuff."

Astrid has posed:
Hulk doesn't have any trouble with uprooting the mushroom now. In fact, it's so brown that it almost squishes in his grip, but he manages to pull it out, and lay it on the ground....where it continues to wither and die cuz of the toxin.

"It is no problem if it is brown, Hulk." She says patting him on the shoulder. "And there we go. We should return to whence we came." She says as the Quinjet lands, safely. "Captain Marvel, would you like to take the controls on the way back? I'm sure Hulk would like a drink when we get back. He has deserved it."

Once they are back on the Quinjet, and Carol at the controls...they fly back fairly quickly enough.....and Astrid treats them all to mead....her sort of drink from Asgard.
