Description
Some say Batman is an extension of the shadow itself. The way his cape slowly rises from the black abyss, moves with it before he steps into dimly lit places. Even then, the cape still looks like it came from the abyss. Same is said of the cowl. How that black is hard to make out features, even up close, some swear it's still the shadow come to life. Hints of grey will show themselves, most hope not to see it. When people can see the grey body suit, or the black bat sprawling across his chest, that means Batman is in motion. When Batman is in motion, it ends up with people getting broken bones, bloody lips, and being left behind for the police to find.

What isn't told is the Kevlar-tri weave of the costume. Plating sewn into the suit at vital points meant to stop bullets, and knives. Spread shots might be a different story. The gauntlets made of a heavier alloy meant to protect him in a variety of situations. Both have a breaking point, but it will take a lot. Sometimes they're needed to protect the face, as much as the sharp blades to attack, and they have been reinforced as a result. Thus, the added weight to them. Similar can be said of the boots. Sometimes it's required to slog through the muck, and everything else. Just in case, he does put similar reinforcement in the boots. Only the belt has any semblance of collar, with the faded yellow pockets and strap. A harken back to earlier costumes.

History
At a young age Bruce learned two important lessons that are still with him today. One, crime is often random. It can happen at any time for the biggest, or smallest, of reasons. Two, your life can change forever in a matter of seconds.

Born into one of the wealthiest families in Gotham, Bruce had every opportunity a person had. All of it right at the tip of his fingers. Luckily, Thomas is not a man swayed by money. Being a gifted surgeon shows Thomas the value of life on a daily basis. He wants to pass these values to his son. Likewise, this humbleness caught Martha Kane's eye long before their marriage, and adventure into parenthood. She wanted her son to be like her husband.

The first seven years are picture perfect. Bruce is on a path to become just like his parents, maybe even better. A struggle, and two gunshots, took all of that away. When he was eight, Bruce's parents were murdered before his eyes. The loyal family butler, Alfred, agreed to raise Master Bruce to keep his promise to the Kane family. He would always watch over Martha, care for her and that extended to her son. Private schools greeted Bruce. So did detentions, suspensions and similar. Often, Bruce lashed out. Everyone wanted to give him a break, but it was insight into the rage that fateful night created.

Graduating from Yale, Bruce simply vanished. To the world, Bruce died. And maybe in a way, he did. For the first two years, Bruce trained to be an FBI agent. His scores were exceptional, but he chose to quite. After the dismissal, he became a ghost. Bruce ended up in so many places within the world. In India he sought out a yogi that could teach him how to block out pain. In Vegas he learned how to escape locks, slight of hand, and other techniques by the great Zatara. Boxing from world champs. Martial Arts from the masters that are practically ghosts in the modern world. And he found ways to learn the sciences from the best when able.

Eight years had passed before Bruce arrived in Gotham. Alfred brought Bruce up to speed, and Bruce confessed about a plan. All the years, created rage, but now he knew how to harness it. Bruce just needed a symbol, a sign. A shattered window, and a Bat desperately clinging to a bust statue of his father gave him the idea to become a Bat.

For the last ten years, Batman has brought his mission to Gotham. Time changes those around him, but it's quite clear, Batman is not leaving Gotham anytime soon. Each time it's rumored he's dead, somehow the Bat keeps coming back.

Personality
THE DARK KNIGHT
There is a darkness within Batman that cannot be completely vanquished no matter how much light is shed on it. The death of his parents and the feeling of helplessness that followed raised in him a violent, sociopathic urge to impose his own order on the chaos around him. Throughout his life as Batman, this darkness has spread and receded. At times he has been unthinkably vicious, leaving criminals permanently injured and doing everything short of ending their lives. At others, he has smiled and even joked. It is usually the people he surrounds himself with, his Family, that hold this darkness at bay. He knows that it would consume him wholly without a Robin or a Batgirl or Alfred, even as much as he may like to believe he is an island. But the darkness is always there beneath the surface, and when he puts on the cowl it is allowed to come up for air. The reason criminals fear him, even after fifteen years where it is so clear that he does not kill, is because of this darkness. This sinister force that, when they look into those pitiless opaque eyes, they know only needs to slip the chain once to end them forever. What luck for them that the man holding that chain is Bruce Wayne.

UNYIELDING
No one expects Batman to give in, and they are right not to. For all the impressive technology of his suit, he is a mortal man. He has been stabbed, shot, burned, frozen, poisoned - the list goes on. He has documented and catalogued every painful sensation he has ever felt. He has suffered the sort of debilitating injuries that can ruin the body and overcome them, pressing ever onward. Similarly, he has endured unfathomable emotional stress and psychological harm. He has stared into the face of death and destruction and denied the overpowering urge to snap its neck and end it once and for all. Batman does not stop. He does not relent. He does not accept that he is beaten, even when all seems hopeless. His life is not kept safe for some distant act of great super-heroics where he will die to save the universe. He acknowledges, and freely accepts, that he may well meet his end at the end of some lucky mugger's knife. It his refusal to give in that allowed him to succeed in learning so many varied disciplines from science to the martial arts. His genius comes not from his intellect but his sheer tenacity in the face of any and all adversity. There is no force in the world that could stop him from being Batman - not even himself.

SELF-DECEIVING

It is very easy to imagine that Batman is the essence of 'supremely capable.' He does not fail. He does not falter. He always has a plan. He is always right. But he has a blind side, and it is in perhaps the only place that he cannot see it, take note of it and shore up the weakness. His blind side is himself. Batman has confidence in his abilities. If he didn't, he wouldn't presume to go out and be Batman on a nightly basis. He believes he can keep his own flaws under control, and for the large part he does. However, when his grip slips for whatever reason. When he throws himself too heavily into being Batman, or he pushes his Family away out of fear that they may be hurt or killed. In these moments, he convinces himself that he is fine. He tells himself that what he is doing is right, because it has to be right. He is by no means so arrogant to presume he can never be wrong, but that he often believes that he works better alone. Given what can happen when he isolates himself fully, this is not the case and in truth he has seen his own darkness so often that he should know it. But he deceives himself, and so it comes back to bite him.

Abilities

Eidetic Memory
Bruce enjoys an eidetic memory, allowing him total recall of anything he has encountered with any of his senses - he is one of those rare adults who maintained this trait after childhood. This allows him to remember details easily even without referring to the Batcomputer or one of his allies and allows him to maintain a working knowledge of a variety of subjects without needing to spend days in cloistered study. His memory can be affected by drugs or other such tampering, but generally speaking if it happened to him he will remember it.

Iron Will
Bruce has an incredible strength of will that is almost unrivalled on the planet. Not only has it allowed him to endure incredible pain, but it is the source of the intense focus that has seen him master numerous martial arts, scientific disciplines and develop himself to the peak of physical fitness. In addition to this, it makes his mind like the most secure of fortresses when it comes to mind reading and mind control. He resists with a strength of will that is nigh unfathomable, and all but the most powerful telepaths will find it too arduous a task to break beyond the basic surface thoughts that he allows them to 'hear'.

Peak Fitness

Bruce has trained since his teenage years to keep himself at the absolute pinnacle of human fitness. It is unlikely that a human could surpass his physique without artificial enhancement of some sort. He can bench press a thousand pounds, catch an arrow mid-flight, match pace with an ordinary car and hold his breath for over three minutes. He maintains an incredibly intense physical fitness regime that allows himself to remain at his peak, and his dietary intake is carefully curated to make sure he has all the energy and protein he might need. Even with all the injuries he has sustained, Bruce remains in perfect physical health. He is able to operate at his maximum for an hour before he begins to suffer any fatigue and is a master of preserving energy for when he needs it.

Skills

Acrobat
Gotham City is a maze of narrow alleyways, rattling fire escapes and rooftops. In most instances, the Batmobile can get Batman into the vicinity of where he needs to be, but he needs to cover the rest on foot. As such, he has learned to be nimble and move with great dexterity. He is an expert at parkour, easily scaling buildings and moving across rooftops like some people stroll down the street. His sense of balance is exceptional, allowing him to move along narrow ledges and power lines as with complete confidence. He can also swing and move through the air with ropes, making certain he lands where he means to and even twisting himself as he goes to avoid oncoming attacks. While he will never possess the natural gymnastic talent of Dick Grayson, he could easily compete at an Olympic level if he so chose.

Actor
Bruce Wayne studied acting at the feet of perhaps one of the greatest undiscovered gems of the stage in the form of Alfred Pennyworth. He can adopt different mannerisms, accents and postures with ease and maintains a wide variety of different identities that he uses for reconnaissance purposes. The idle playboy that is the public persona of Bruce Wayne is perhaps his most famous characters, but he has several others such as the thuggish Matches Malone or the aristocratic Sir Hemingford Grey. He has also mastered applying prostheses and make up to disguise his face and has a large wardrobe of costumes on hand for when he might need to.

Detective
Bruce Wayne is a genius when it comes to putting the pieces together. He can get all the evidence together, and when he has he uses his talents as a detective to find out what it all means. He can employ both deductive and inductive reasoning like the true heir to Holmes or Poirot that he is. When it comes to detective work, there is simply none finer on the planet. He is the World's Greatest Detective.

Engineer
Some billionaires put their genius towards constructing wonderful hi-tech toys, and Bruce Wayne is no exception. He doesn't employ power armor (although he has designs and contingencies in place should the need arise), but he has an acute genius for developing gadgetry to suit his needs. It is usually a matter of days, if not hours, after a new threat emerges that he has deduced some means to bypass, neutralise or weaken it through the wonders of technology. His knowledge of mechanical and electrical engineering as well as the practical elements therein allow him to develop almost anything he needs for his crusade with the bare minimum of outside influence. Not only does he understand how to put everything together, but he also understands how the individual components interact and function. Given enough time and equipment, he could eventually convert the raw materials of a device into what he needed to create a fully-functioning machine. One need only look at the Batmobile or the wonder that is his Batsuit to see just how vast his talent and skill is in this field.

Escapologist
Although Bruce might chastise himself for being put in a situation where he would need to employ escapology, he has nevertheless mastered it. There is likely no pair of handcuffs on Earth (or even in the galactic neighbourhood) that could hold him indefinitely, and even in the tightest bonds he has learned methods of dislocating joints and contorting his body to escape them. He can escape from a straightjacket in well under a minute and pick locks with only the simplest of materials (though he usually keeps high quality lockpicks on hand in his utility belt). There are others who surpass him in this, but for a man of his size and build it is amazing how much of a deft hand he is at slipping out of any and all confinements.

Forensic Scientist
Bruce Wayne audited dozens of classes for various disciplines within the field of forensic science, ranging from DNA analysis to forensic serology. Since becoming Batman, he keeps himself abreast on any new developments in the field and quickly integrates any new techniques or instruments into his arsenal. He has, on more than one occasion, developed new techniques and tools himself which he has readily disbursed amidst his allies. He can examine a crime scene and draw an incredible amount of detail from it, determining what happened, who was involved and when. If he cannot conduct a full battery of tests in the field, he is a master at capturing evidence without contaminating it and studying it later. He stores all his findings in an expansive database, allowing him to cross-reference his findings with all the efficiency and talent of the most advanced, fully-staffed forensic laboratory.

Interrogator
Bruce learned to track his quarry across any distance and learned how to beat them into submission once he had found them. But what good was his strength and cunning if they would not tell him what he needed to know? One of the earliest lessons Bruce learned upon his return to Gotham was that he needed to strike terror into the hearts of his enemies. As such, he has mastered the use of theatricality as an intimidation tactic. Batman has harnessed the darkness within himself as a means to cause fear, making those he turns it on more inclined to answer his questions. As well as this, he knows how to ask the right questions and read between the lines. At times, those he interrogates may not even be aware that they have told him quite as much as they have.

Leader
The sort of people that Bruce Wayne surrounds himself with and calls allies are an eclectic bunch to say the least. They include orphans, trained assassins, and - perhaps most obstinate of all - teenagers. It takes a practiced and disciplined mind to not only provide such men and women with leadership, but to do so competently and employ them in situations that best suit their individual strengths and weaknesses. While he predominantly employs this skill with the Bat Family, he can make a fine (albeit inscrutable) leader amongst his peers in the Justice League. He knows how to speak with authority and make hard decisions quickly, as well as how to conceal any concerns or misgivings he may have.

Manhunter
Under the tutelage of infamous assassin Henri Ducard, a young Bruce Wayne learned what it took to pursue his quarry across all manner of terrain and through all sorts of conditions. Once he has caught the metaphoric (and, in some cases, literal) scent, there is little hope to elude him for long. He can look at the most innocuous patch of earth and locate footprints and other signs that will help him discern not only when someone passed by, but how long ago and even guess at their height, weight and physical condition. He has adapted this art to the finest science in urban environments, and he can track his targets even through the bustling sprawl of Gotham City. Beyond the city his talents are perhaps less so, but only marginally - it is a rare foe indeed who escapes the Batman.

Marksman
When Bruce Wayne sets his mind to a goal, it is a rare occasion indeed that he cannot achieve it. One such occasion was the marksmanship test during his training for the FBI at Quantico. He passed with the highest marks in all tests bar this one, but on the firing range he was merely below exceptional. To him, guns are the weapon of the enemy and his otherwise focused mind seems to reject their use. While he can certainly hit a target, his true talent as a marksman lies in other fields. Most prominently is the use of shurikenjutsu, throwing small blades (such as his batarangs) to strike targets from afar with pinpoint accuracy. He is even capable of banking a thrown weapon off a surface, allowing him to ricochet his batarangs around corners or even into multiple targets. He frequently employs bolas, a weighted rope and ball weapon that when throw constricts the legs of the target and does so with great precision. While he is not amongst those who carries one with them regularly, he is also capable of hitting the bullseye with a bow and arrow from over fifty yards away. The firearm is perhaps the only ranged weapon he has not allowed himself to master, for his own ethical reasons.

Martial Artist
While he was still a teenager, Bruce Wayne began his instruction in styles of armed and unarmed combat from across the world. He began his learning locally, learning at any dojang, wuguan or dojo that would take him. When he felt he had learned all these local masters could teach him, he went abroad and could be found in any dusty kalari or backwater sasaran from Java to Kerala. Then he left the beaten path, climbing forbidding mountains to prostrate himself before inscrutable masters and beg instruction in ancient and terrible methods. In the end, he came away having forged himself into one of the single greatest combatants on Earth. He is a master of over one hundred styles of unarmed combat, and through a decade of experience has fused them together into a single and versatile school. He may pair a choko-tsuki with a Kalaripayattu vadivu and one might never guess the two techniques developed over three thousand miles apart. While there are certainly those who have excelled beyond him in their chosen art form, there are precious few who have drunk as widely nor as deeply from this particular well.

Ninja
Bruce Wayne studied ninjutsu under Kirigi - perhaps the greatest master of the art. Through it, he has learned to vanish without a trace even when in the presence of those with advanced senses. One can be talking to Batman, bat an eye and find he is gone as though he were never there. He also employs the use of smoke pellets to conceal his egress and has learned to move without making a sound. Even the most secure areas are easily accessed by him, and he has turned his depth of knowledge in this area towards creating nigh-impenetrable security amongst his holdings ? most specifically the Batcave. There is little to keep Bruce out of somewhere that he wishes to go once he has set his mind to it, and his skills allow him to conduct detailed reconnaissance to be fully prepared when he engages his opponent.

Pilot
Whether it be behind the wheel of the Batmobile, the stick of the Batwing, piloting the Batboat or atop the Batcycle - Bruce Wayne knows how to drive. In his youth, he spent time with gangs who stole cars and raced them down crowded and winding streets for the sheer thrill of it. Now, as Batman, he employs these skills to allow himself to make tight turns and fancy manoeuvres even while tearing through the narrow streets of Gotham City. He is far from the greatest driver to ever live, but his proficiency is high and there are few vehicles that he could not pilot once given a few moments to understand how the controls work.

Scientist
Bruce Wayne audited classes at dozens of universities throughout the world. He never had much interest in doing all the necessary work to earn a degree, only taking on board the knowledge he thought would be practical for his chosen pursuit. As such, he possesses a functional knowledge of a wide variety of scientific disciplines. What he did not learn in school, he has taught himself through focused study during his career as Batman. It is worth noting that his skill as a scientist is directly linked to the work he does as Batman. His knowledge of medicine, for example, is best employed in swiftly and efficiently taking down an opponent or field dressing a wound. He could not conduct surgery. He can use his knowledge of computer science to swiftly crack foreign systems but would have little to add when it came to developing scripting languages or GUIs. He is a very capable scientist, but he focuses on those areas of use to him and often leaves the more theoretical side to more interested minds.

Tactician
With the aid of his eidetic memory, Bruce recalls every experience of his life with great clarity and detail. He can use this knowledge to inform his decisions in the present ? enabling him to think tactically and outwit physically superior foes. He has a talent for finding elements of his environment that can be turned against his opponent to his own benefit, and can ably deduce certain weaknesses simply by observing. He is also capable of thinking on a grander scale, placing the various soldiers in his private army in different parts of the battlefield where they will achieve the best net result.

Weapons Master

Of the many martial arts Bruce Wayne studied during his training, many possessed an element of armed combat. While he preferred to fight with his body as this was a tool that could never be stolen away from him, he nevertheless engaged himself fully in everything his teachers had to offer. As expected, Bruce has learned to wield a sword with all the skill of a kendo or wudang master but he has gone well beyond this also. He has learned to do battle with less commonplace weapons such as the Indian maduvu (or deer-horn dagger) and the Japanese tessen (or war fan). While most melee weapons do not make a regular appearance as part of his arsenal, knowledge of their use allows him to employ weapons both readily available and improvised should the need ever arise - and should all else fail, he knows how to swing a broken chair leg with brutal precision.

Allies
Bruce Wayne has never been truly alone. Even before the notion of devoting himself to his crusade, Alfred Pennyworth was there to comfort, reassure and teach him. Since then, although his list of enemies has grown his list of friends and allies has grown also. Closest to him are those he has trained, whether as Robin, Batgirl or any of several other masked identities. He considers them family, and he would sacrifice anything - his life included - to ensure their safety and, in turn, relies on each to dedicate themselves to his crusade in their own way. Further afield are his peers in the wider super-heroic community, most obviously the Justice League of which he is a founder and financial backer. He has means to contact almost any of these allies and can readily call on them for assistance in matters that he believes may be beyond his scope or ability. There are also his allies who do not wear capes, such as Dr. Leslie Thompkins upon whom he can rely for medical treatment and discretion. Bruce enjoys a vast web of contacts upon whom he can call in his time of needs, regardless of how much he may think he can shoulder the whole burden himself.

Batarangs
If Batman has a signature weapon beyond his body and his mind, it would be the batarang. They come in a wide variety but are typically razor-sharp shuriken in the shape of a stylized bat that can be folded up and concealed easily in his utility belt. As well as these tried and true standards, he possesses different kinds that can explode, deliver gas payloads, become electrified or even be controlled remotely via his suit. Beyond this, there are smaller varieties that emit a tracking beacon that allows him to locate them using a GPS. It is safe to say that Batman never runs out of these batarangs, and if he ever does there are dead drops throughout Gotham where he can quickly restock.

Batcave
Batman's primary base of operations is the Batcave, a cave complex located beneath Wayne Manor in Crest Hill. The Cave itself is a secret even to local officials, who are unaware of its presence and any surveys done that might suggest it is there mysteriously turn up different results when they are examined more closely. As well as being secure and secret, the Batcave sports a number of different exits - multiple secret passages down from Wayne Manor and the surrounding grounds with egress to the air, road and waterways as required. There are also the secret entrances which are closely guarded even amidst members of the Bat Family who know the Cave's location, meaning that Batman can sneak in to his own base if need be. Go figure.

The Batcave sports several state of the art amenities. There are quarters for those who are visiting for an extended period to live without having to venture into the Manor above. There is a fully-equipped crime lab, allowing Bruce to do the work of any high-quality forensics department on his own. There are garages, hangars and docks for his many vehicles and armories to hold his equipment and a veritable wardrobe of batsuits. There are even holding cells where he can keep less savory visitors captive. Finally, there is a vast gallery in which he stores mementos of his career as Batman - ranging from weapons and trophies taken from villains, to items belonging to those he has failed left on display as a constant reminder. Some of these trophies may even function and could be employed in his arsenal if the need arose.

Batcomputer
The centrepiece of the Batcave is the Batcomputer - an extraordinarily powerful supercomputer that is likely at the very pinnacle of what human technology can accomplish in that field currently. It is connected to a network of satellites that allow him to track and monitor media from all over the world, including news feeds and even surveillance systems that he has tapped into. The computer serves as a network hub for the other computer systems operated by the Bat Family, and all members freely tap into it and utilize its resources - sometimes all at once - without any noticeable slow-downs or processing issues. As well as being able to produce three-dimensional holograms of people and places, the Batcomputer serves as a great archive containing digital versions of all manner of media from the last two-hundred years. The Batcomputer also enjoys a degree of automation, allowing it to run complex procedures while Batman concerns himself with other things - although it far removed from a true artificial intelligence.

Batsuit
There is no singular uniform that Batman dons when he goes out to fight crime. Most nights the suit is damaged, and he usually sets it aside to be repaired (if it can be repaired) and has a replacement on hand. There are whole rooms of the Batcave devoted to storing different versions of the same suit. Some are designed for operations in extreme heat or extreme cold, while others are particularly resistant to certain kinds of damage such as electrical or explosive damage. From time to time, Bruce will even change the overall look waning between utilitarian to gothic and terrifying. The configuration is largely the same each time: an expose mouth and chin, pointed ears, a cape, a cowl and a bat symbol on the chest.

The suit he utilizes most frequently is the best all-rounder of the wardrobe. It is composed of a fire-resistant, non-conductive polymer and is plated with armor in various places to allow protect vital organs. The highest concentration of armour can be found behind the symbol on the chest, as it is designed to draw fire towards his centre mass. The cowl itself contains a heads-up display linking him to the Batcomputer and allowing him to view different parts of the electromagnetic spectrum. The pointed ears of the cowl are also antennae, allowing him to pick up radio signals which are sent to earpieces that automatically block sounds exceeding a decibel level that would cause harm. Finally, the suit itself is electrified to prevent the cowl being removed should he lose consciousness.

Finances
The bulk of the Wayne family fortune is built upon the expansive holdings of Wayne Enterprises and their controlling interest in the company. Even if this were Bruce's only source of revenue, he would enjoy an annual income in the billions. But Bruce has invested heavily on a personal level as well as through the company, giving him interests in many other businesses across the globe as well as personal ownership of property in many major cities. In addition to all this, there are assets such as Wayne Manor and an inherited fortune in the form of the Wayne family fortune and his mother's stake in that of the Kane family - which rivalled that of even the Waynes. The exact figure fluctuates with the economy, but with the funds to put space stations in orbit and installations on other celestial bodies it is simpler to say that money is never an object to Bruce Wayne.

Installations
While he centers his operation around the expansive complex known as the Batcave, it is difficult to operate abroad without a more on-hand base of operations. As his scope has increased beyond Gotham, Bruce has financed and overseen the construction of secret bases throughout the world and even beyond. Gotham alone houses several secondary and tertiary installations, stocked to varying degrees with replacement equipment, vehicles and facilities should he need them. He keeps similar facilities many other cities as well, often in a state of low power stasis until he has need of them. As he has encountered more advanced technology through the Justice League, he has established facilities both in orbit around Earth and a bunker on the Moon - the latter being used more as a testbed for dangerous technology and artefacts and as a last chance fallback position. While few such installations rival the technological sophistication of the primary Batcave, they all meet the function as an optional base of operations easily.

The Car
The Car, typically referred to as the Batmobile by everyone who isn't Batman, is a marvel of modern engineering. It is used so often that it warrants its own entry, having become a ubiquitous part of his arsenal on par with his utility belt. The design changes regularly as new technology becomes available or Bruce alters the design to suit his needs. Each iteration of the Car that is not destroyed ends up in the Batcave's vast garage, kept in working order as a contingency or should he ever find the need for more than one. They range in appearance from bat-winged hot rods to veritable tanks, the most recent iteration being something of a mix between the two. While in pursuit mode, it can move in excess of 200 miles per hour and go from 0 to 60 in 2.7 seconds. It is also possessed of afterburners fueled by nitro-methane, allowing it to travel even faster for brief periods of time.

At the flick of a switch, the Car changes configuration into battle mode, wherein it becomes more stable on the ground and capable of more precise movements in a complete 360-degree range. It bristles with a number of cannons capable of firing anything from non-lethal rubber rounds to high explosive cl-20/hmx cocrystal explosives capable of swiftly disabling other vehicles. The Car is well-equipped with anti-personnel, anti-vehicle and anti-air weaponry - making sure it is well-equipped for any and all situations. As well as a direct link to the Batcave and his communication systems, the Car has room for 3 passengers and can withstand powerful explosions and several hits from anti-tank weaponry before it begins to take debilitating damage.

Utility Belt
Arguably the most valuable element of Batman's arsenal is his utility belt. It contains, quite simply, anything he may need. The configuration and contents vary from night to night, but if Bruce has even a passing idea of what he may be up against he will have something on hand to combat it. Elements that always have a home are de-cel lines for swinging from rooftops, a rebreather mask, spare batarangs, a mobile crime scene kit, gas capsules with everything from simple smoke to regurgitants, a recording device and several tracking beacons. It also often houses a grapnel gun, allowing him to quickly reach high places. As a rule of thumb, it is likely that Batman will have whatever he needs in his utility belt. Its quality is almost mystical in this sense.

Vehicles
Although the Batmobile enjoys a special place as Batman's primary mode of transport, he has a fleet of vehicles for any situation one can imagine. There are Batcycles for when the Batmobile is too bulk, the Batwing - a fighter jet designed to operate in Gotham's narrow skyscraper canyons - and even boats capable of surface and sub-surface operation. When he must go further afield, the Batplane is there - looking like a simple private jet on the outside, it can be switched to stealth mode at the flick of a button and take on all the functionality of a mobile Batcave. Almost all these vehicles are capable of being piloted remotely, allowing Batman to summon them to his location with ease.

Wayne Enterprises
Wayne Enterprises is among the oldest, continuously running companies in the world and also one of the wealthiest. Founded as a merchant house by Bruce's ancestors in the 17th century, the company was largely responsible for the construction and development of Gotham City as a major urban center. It took its more recognizable, corporate form in the 1800s and since then has spread to develop interests all over the globe. The subsidiaries of Wayne Enterprises are too numerous to list exhaustively and grow every day with the acquisition of new holdings either through the ordinary course of business or to support Bruce's private war as Batman. Wayne Enterprises has a subsidiary for almost everything, ranging from personal computing to the construction of warships for the United States Navy. As Chairman of the Board of Directors and primary (51 percent) shareholder, Bruce has ultimate control over the company yet leaves the overall day to day running in the care of its CEO. His position entitles him not only to a salary, but also a sizable dividend from rental properties, sales, capital gains and other commercial agreements in the order of hundreds of millions of dollars a year.

In addition to the substantial flow of revenue that Wayne Enterprises brings, Bruce also maintains several clandestine back channels throughout the corporation's many subdivisions. On occasion, prototypes go missing or certain items simply disappear off shipping manifests or out of inventory databases. These items then find their way into the possession of Bruce Wayne, who readily converts them to his own ends as Batman. The Batplane sports an advanced jet engine developed by Wayne Aerospace that mysteriously never made it to mass production, and the Batcomputer is made up of Wayne Electronics processors that won't see the open market for several more years. His shareholders and employees may not know it, but Bruce Wayne enjoys first dibs on anything produced by Wayne Enterprises' cutting-edge R&D departments.

Wayne Manor

Wayne Manor serves as more than a simple place for Bruce Wayne to live. It is at the centre of his personal mythos. He remembers it during happier days when he lived there with his parents, and he remembers cold and dark winters where almost all the rooms were closed and much of the furniture concealed by dust covers. There are dozens of rooms and the Manor itself is full of many priceless antiquities obtained both by Bruce himself and his ancestors. Perhaps most importantly, the Batcave is accessed primarily through a passage hidden behind a grandfather clock that opens when the clock itself is set to 10:47 PM - the exact time of Thomas and Martha Wayne's death.

Weaknesses

Family
His greatest strength is perhaps also Batman's greatest weakness. His Family. These people he surrounds himself with lift him out of the darkness and allow him to be the man that he wants to be. If he were to lose them - even one of them - it is doubtless that he would become more brutal, more reckless and ultimately more dangerous. But they are their own people, and Bruce can be a difficult man. He pushes them away and sometimes they simply want to be apart from him to live outside the long shadow he casts. His desire to protect them is absolute, and sometimes it can feel as though his protective instinct is stifling - it can even lead to him taking valuable allies out of the fight if he feels there is even a slight risk that they may be hurt or killed.

Isolation
Bruce often deceives himself into believing that he acts alone. Even surrounded by allies he insists on shouldering the burden for himself. He takes on too much and trust too little. It can weigh down on him heavily at times, and he has a difficult time letting go even for a second. As a result, his allies can be mistrustful of him when he keeps secrets from them for what he perceives as their own benefit. By refusing to take readily offered aid, he often risks of being harmed more than was perhaps necessary.

Mortality
Mortality is not something that Bruce would consider a weakness. Most of the universe have it and he does not consider it a true limiter in any real sense. However, being a human being does have a few downsides when it comes to what Bruce does as Batman. For one, he must maintain himself in peak physical condition. This is not done by magic. He must eat a carefully balanced diet and engage in rigorous exercise, which can be difficult to explain away when you are meant to be an idle playboy. Additionally, every injury he takes is real. He does not heal at an accelerated rate and his skin is covered in scars from various bullet wounds, burns, cuts, scrapes and nasty breaks received over the years. Being Batman has a real, physical cost and even though he is only in his early 30s, Bruce feels much older at times and can sense that at some point in the far future his body may fail him once and for all. He still has physical capabilities far beyond those of most humans, but at times he can feel a twinge in his joints or the painful itching of an old wound and he is reminded of just how vulnerable he can be.

Rogues Gallery
Batman has a host of villains, arguably created when he upped the criminal game in Gotham by donning a mask and behaving theatrically. They vary from minor nuisances to the sort of nightmarish figures that keep him awake in those morning hours when he should be getting what little sleep he runs on. These villains live to make his life miserable in one way or another, and as long as they exist he can never rest or resign from his crusade. Along with the more flamboyant Joker and Riddler types, there are also countless thugs who would like nothing more than to be the one who finally killed the Bat.

Secret Identity
Bruce Wayne appears to all but a select few as an affable playboy. He is doubtlessly kind, renowned throughout Gotham for his acts of philanthropy and generous good heartedness. But few would mistake him for anything more than a wealthy man just trying to get over an early childhood trauma by living his best life and doing good in his community. If someone were to crack through this veneer however, it might all well come crashing down. What he does as Batman is essentially illegal and the GCPD would likely have no choice but to arrest Bruce Wayne on a laundry list of charges if the truth ever got out. Beyond that, all those close to him would be compromised by the knowledge not the least of which include his surrogate parents in Alfred Pennyworth and Leslie Thompkins, as well as his children - adopted and biological. It can be a difficult mask to wear at times, as he explains the numerous stab and bullet wounds crisscrossing his body are the result of climbing accidents and fencing mishaps. His secret identity is a key part of who he is, and he has difficulty believing that he could continue to operate as Batman - at least Batman as he is in his current iteration - without it.

The Batman

The darkness within Bruce Wayne. The brutal, intimidating figure with the voice like the slamming of a distant crypt door. The Batman is what would happen if Bruce had chosen to devote himself fully to his war on crime at the cost of his parents' legacy. A shadow born in an act of senseless violence that seeks only vengeance on those who seek to bring chaos to its careful order. When criminals look at Bruce in full costume and quake in terror, it is the Batman they see - glowering at them from behind the bars of its cage. If it were free, it would commit endless pain and violence upon those who dare to oppose its dark ideology. By letting it up to the surface in his nightly campaign, Bruce allows himself to remain in the light and not fall entirely to this sinister base instinct. It is a great asset when it comes to intimidation but living the life the Batman wants for him would be a violation to many things he holds most dear.
