Clark Kent Lois Lane looks like a marshmallow. And that's because she's bundled up like a toddler wrapped up by an overbearing parent before their first winter voyage. That's how she arrives at the door step to the Fortress. Clark sets her down. He smiles, "House key," and he'll reveal an innocent looking key that's anything but. The doors open and the Fortress greets them both. Once the doors are closed, he'll start to unwrap the many layers of Lois lane. Once she's free, he gestures about. "Welcome to my home away from home," it's not Lois's first visit here, just the first visit since a renewed sense of purpose.

The main hallway looks to be empty. One day it may be full of all, and many, matter of life. Continuing downward there is a statue of Jor-El and Lor-El holding up the world together. "A memorial to my parents," Clark feels conflicted when it comes to them. He knows of them, he feels close to them, but there's not much warmth. He can't get upset about that. It's the sacrifice that saved him. That's something he is forever grateful for.

Clark will float toward the console and inset a particular crystal. There's a life size projection like hologram of his parents. "Sometimes I wish they could talk back," although his dad can thanks to an extensive programming. Well, more like the ghost of his father trapped inside a machine. A dark realization for a man that wears such a colorful uniform right now.
Lois Lane     Lois is accustomed to being taken care of by Clark. And when traveling here, she may feel a bit silly, but she sure does love being warm as possible. She cannot help but laugh as she is getting her layers removed.

"I feel like a toddler," she says playfully. "It's kind of fun. I should let you take dress me more often." She pauses, looks around, "We're alone, right?" She can be less flirty in that case!

But it isn't long before things get solemn. She doesn't let Clark stand alone, though. She will take his arm whenever he allows her to. She's alive, she's warm, and she is here.

"They loved you dearly, Clark. That much is clear. I understand, though. I wish I could have met them."

Her eyes study the statues before she is led on. And then again she finds herself facing his parents. She knows it's just a hologram. It's not them. Still, she says softly, "I'll take good care of him. I promise."
Clark Kent "Yes, we're alone, Lane," Clark says before things get solemn. It's a bit of a pivot.

Clark will hold onto her hand until he lets go to float back to the console to remove crystals. "I think one of the reasons I got into reporting. One of the very first reasons is the preservation of knowledge. To record something and make sure the memory lives on," then the reasoning changed in time. Still fitting into a new role without changing, by some miracle of miracles.

"You'll probably have a few of these moments on crystal, too," he says with a smile. It's like an alien threatening to make a home movie of her.
Lois Lane     There are times where she cannot see Clark as a normal man. There are times when she is just in awe of the man she loves. The man who has chosen to keep her at his side. This moment, watching him flighting and working with crystal strikes her in that way.

Lois takes her time to listen. Really listen. It's a skill of course, and one she has in spades. "I'm going to be recorded here, too?" she asks breathlessly. Her? "I can't imagine what I would look like in three dimensions." She unconsciously reaches up to adjust her hair, feeling very much not up to the standard set by Clark's Kryptonian parents.

"Do you think... sorry, I shouldn't ask that." She wonders, though. Would they approve of her for their son? Would they have called her daughter? For just a moment, she can feel something like the ache that Clark has lived with for most of his life.
Clark Kent "Yes. You're going to be recorded," Clark says honestly. "And you always look good enoughf or it," he adds.To him that's very true. Sky blue eyes look upon her.

"Do I think what?" hea sks. Clark's a little quizzical on this one.
Lois Lane     Lois smiles at Clark, stopping her hair-fixing immediately. She smiles up at him. "Well, if you think so, then it must be true," she says playfully.

Prompted by Clark, she hesitates a moment. Not for fear, but for phrasing. He's seen this before. Lois has very deliberate pauses. This one takes a bit longer, because she wants to express herself clearly.

"I love you, Clark. I want to always support you. I was just wondering what they might have said, had we met. They sent you here, clearly they wanted the best for you and for humanity. I can only imagine they meant for you to marry a woman from Earth. Since I am the woman you picked, well, I have to accept that they would have approved. It's hard sometimes. There are moments when I see you on television, or on the front page, and it dawns on me that he's my husband. I'm going to cook for him tonight. I'm going to have his children."

She is not rambling. Not exactly. To her this is all making a series of important points. "I am lucky, Clark. And I'm so grateful to them. They gave their lives to get you here. Because of them, we met. Because of them, my life is joyful."
Clark Kent "My father is a man of Science. Someone that would put logic in motion. I suspect he calculated, or presumed, I would marry an Earthling. So, he may warn against it in a biological sense, but not in others," and Clark's sure he has seen that program a few dozen times.

Then he gets real quiet, "From what the computer tells me about Mom, is that she is a woman of compassion and understanding. I think she would approve, if you made me happy," he says softly and gives a smile.

"And yes, they would have welcomed you," he tries to assauge Lois. It may be hard to do here because there's only so much evidence to back him up.
Lois Lane     Lois nods thoughtfully, "We will figure out that biological concern," she says confidently. She feels every so slightly guilty about putting it that way, considering it is Clark who has to do the real work there. But, she is, in fairness, vastly improving her own health as of late. There aren't even dark marks under her eyes!

She continues to watch Clark closely. "You are their son, the most noble man I've ever met. And I've met many! They would have been so proud of you." She folds her hands together and looks around a moment, before settling her attention back on Clark.

"What have you been able to learn here? Is all the knowledge of your people stored in these crystals?"
Clark Kent "That's from their teachings and my Earth Parents," Clark begins and he nods to the crystals. "Yes. Not just the stills I showed you before. Dad has a lot of lessons here. It's like a computer that can also judge you," Clark says with some amusement. "Jor-" he catches himself. "Dad created a lot of lessons. He did his diligence, knew I would have questions. And did his best to anticipate them all," and for the most part he did.
Lois Lane     "I don't suppose he anticipated that you would have a... partner who would like an education of what special duties a Kryptonian wife might have. Your mother didn't make any recordings, did she?"

Lois is desperately hopeful, but tries very hard not to show it. She knows Clark's need is far greater than her own. Still, if she could give him a piece of a home he only has come to know after the fact, that would surely have meaning, as well.

"I know we both live on Earth, but we can't just let the customs of your family and your people be lost if we can stop it. Our children will want to know as much as they can, in time."
Clark Kent Clark's genuinely caught offguard here. He pauses, "Maybe?" Clark says unsure if they would be there. There might be something.

"Well, the traditions are more societal. How the world worked," he says. BNut he does need to look into the family line. Then he pauses, "Maybe family robes?" he says as a way to temporarily bring Lois into his culture. Her own set of robes.
Lois Lane     Lois grins at Clark. "I would like to see if there's anything, and yes, robes sound wonderful. I am sincere, Clark. I mean, you know I am, of course, my husband."

Something very unusual happens. She.. blushes and is a bit flustered. It sounds so formal and she's afraid he'll laugh at her for speaking that way.

"I want to be ready to be the best wife I can. And to be a mother of children from two worlds. So they can appreciate their entire heritage, from here to Kansas to Krypton."
Kara Danvers Kara Danvers hasn't dropped by the fortress in a long while but she knows where it is and it's about time she checked in on her (not so) baby cousin. She does bother to knock on the door rather than letting herself in, just to be polite of course! even if they are family. Lately she's been busy or at least occupied and not around as much as before..
Clark Kent Clark doesn't laugh or judge, "I barely wear my robes," he says and blushes a little bit himself. To him that's fancy kryptonian tradition. Yes, it's common for some on the planet, but it's such a rarity.

"And you will be all of those things, if you're not already," Clark smiles. "I have no doubt-" and then the soun dof "KNOCK!" "KNOCK!" "KNOCK!" booms and he rushes toward the door and opens it.

Cold blasts forward, it licks at the room Lois is in, but the place is well heated. So, it's like letting a brief chill in a very warm home.

"Kara!" Clark says and just waits for her to get inside before shutting the door.
Lois Lane     The boom shocks Lois. Of all the unlikely places to have a guest! And then she laughs when she hears Clark's voice. "She's all the way up here?!" the reporter exclaims.

She wants to rush over to greet her, but that wind inspires her to wait just a moment. When Kara comes inside is the time for welcoming hugs.

"I'm so happy to see you!" She's surprised, but this is clearly a surprise that delights her.
Kara Danvers Kara Danvers hears voices and arches a brow, wondering what she's interrupting. Are Lois and Clark..?nShe frowns, turning away, about to leave them to their privacy, but it seems that she's been noticed already. She forces a smile, turning back and opening the door. "Hey, you two! I hope I'm not interrupting something? I was just in the neighbourhood and thought I'd stop by and say hi.." she chuckles and hugs Lois. "Hi, Lois! Long time no see.."
Clark Kent "No. We're just going over family facts," Clark says making sure Kara knows there is zero interruption here. "Lois wants to know more about our family. You may be more versed in the subject," he says honestly. Kara actually remembers his family. Genuine memories that aren'ta computer program or simulation.
Lois Lane     Lois smiles at Kara, stepping back from the hug but reaching out to squeeze the woman's hands affectionately. "It has been a little bit, hasn't it? I hope you are doing well, Kara. You should definitely stop by our place. Whenever you like! You'll know when we're around. Or you can text if you prefer."

Lois looks to Clark and then back to Kara, nodding. "I was hoping that maybe there might have been a message left for a future daughter-in-law, but I imagine that is too much to wish for. Anything you could share would be so helpful, though. And you don't have to now, of course. When you have time to think about it, if that helps. My greatest interest is learning about being a wife and a mother. If there were any stories, rituals, really anything that might help me."
Kara Danvers Kara Danvers beams, "Oh that's good! Well you're not wrong there."she sighs, "Only been a few years but I still remember Krypton quite clearly. I'm happy to answer any question s you might have.." she arches a curious brow at Lois, "Sooo are you doing a paper on Krypton or is this just for personal curiosity?"

She chuckles and shrugs to Clark, "Not that I know of, unless it's hidden in the pod I arrived here in.." now that's a thought.
Clark Kent "No. This is personal. Lois feels like she hasn't learned any El traditions and she's trying know more about her future in-laws. What they were like, if they would accept her," Clark's just open and honest with his cousin. "I, and Dad's programming, can only explain so much. This is all personal," he emphasizes that again. Nothing on the record, from a jounalism standpoint.
Lois Lane     Lois nods in agreement. "If circumstances were the way we all wish they were, I could hear this from them directly. If Clark's mother were here, she could teach me all of this. But...' She sighs softly.

"That just isn't possible. I think maybe the best way to put it is that I want to carry on her personal legacy. To do my best to act in a way that would please her. I will of course always be a human woman. Do you understand what I am asking, Kara? I guess it's just... to know her and anything she might have said or shown about being a mother and a wife."
Kara Danvers Kara Danvers smiles a sad smile as she listens, "Well I'm glad that you will be my sister in law, I always wanted a sister." she chuckles, "I could tell you many stories of life back home..Where do I even start?" she sighs, looking around, "Although I love the holographic stories here as well, they're pretty nostalgic.." pose nods, "So what specifically do you want to know that wasn't already covered?"
Lois Lane     "Lullabys. Was there a song she would sing to help Clark sleep?" She turns a smile to him. "Or any little cute nicknames for him as a baby? I imagine the food was very, very different. I doubt there's anything quite like it." Except for chicken. Chicken tastes like something on every world.

"How about stories? The kind that parents would tell their little children. Maybe just before bed, like we do here?"
Kara Danvers Kara Danvers bites her lip rather wistfully as she tries to remember the words of an old lullaby, one her own mother sang to her as a child, one she would often practice on baby Clark, pretending he was her own little doll to play with. "Hmm, well, we wouldn't want to, embarrass Clark, but.."

She begins to him the sad sweet song, swaying back and forth on her heels to the gentle rhythm, and then she begins to sing:

~Higher higher higher higher higher
Higher higher higher higher higher

Dream with me, how the world can be better and
Sing with me, we'll be always together
Before you lie, sing a lullaby

Close your eyes, you can always remember me
By your side, you can hear me whisper
Before you lie, sing a lullaby
Before you lie, sing a lullaby

Clark Kent Clark has a vague sense of memory. Like something distant pawing at his mind. His gaze goes to the pair. Clark says the words again. Right now, he's just lost in it. "I think I remember it, vaguely," he admits. "I'm surprised it wans't about the Great Rao."
Lois Lane     Lois is really moved. And she's got a pad and pen out immediately, writing it down. She's not gifted with a performer's singing voice, but she figures she can make it nice enough for a baby. It may seem like a small thing to Kara, but it means the world to Lois to have this connection.

"I love it! I'm so happy you shared that. It's just those little things. Every little thing that might tell me about Krypton. Not in the big historical sense, but in the details about actually living there."
