Welcome to Brazil
Date of Scene: 14 November 2019
Location: Brazil, Da Costa Hotel
Synopsis: Roberto asks Lorna out to a breakfast date
Cast of Characters: Sunspot, Polaris

Sunspot has posed:
So Roberto gave Lorna the keys of his car. Which was not necessary, but kind of symbolic.

Now, his Jaguar XKR-S, even the modified hybrid he drives, is not able to go all the way to Brazil in mere hours, even if they break all speed limits and the roads are empty.

Fortunately Lorna's hatred of planes does not extend to flying cars, at least not when they fly under his magnetic power. So it was merely about ten hours, counting a brief stop in Jamaica for dinner, and the luxury car is really comfortable inside. All in all, not the worst trip Roberto has done. He had to spend a good deal of time on the phone, though, because the sudden trip really messed up his business schedule.

They got to Rio at five in the morning. Just in time to watch the sun rise.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna had wanted something to exhaust her. Something to keep her mind busy and to physically be taxing enough that she could sleep for once. She'd struggled for sleep and rest for the past few weeks that she'd rolled over with tears in her eyes because she just couldn't sleep. Even when she'd tried. Her mind hadn't been willing to give her a moment's peace. The haunting images of her mother's death, echoed down the road of her memory on repeat, over and over again.

Now.. as they finally touched down (after avoiding various countries air spaces so as to avoid getting shot down) Lorna turned the car off with a wave of her hand, and leaned back in her seat, closing her eyes as she let out a long sigh and slumped back.

She was tired, she could likely keep going for a while longer, but it wasn't ideal. She had set out and accomplished what she had wanted after all.. To get away at least. Though by the time they'd left the frozen North behind she'd shucked off her leather jacket, sweatshirt, and was down to a simple black tank-top and jeans. With the engine off it wouldn't take long for the cool breath of the AC to be over powered by the tropical humidity of the country's climate. Soon they'd either have to turn it back on, or go into the hotel she'd parked them beside, per Roberto's direction. She could navigate just fine in general terms.. but she still had no idea what hotel was which or what city they were over.

Sunspot has posed:
It is definitely Rio de Janeiro. Roberto's cellphone GPS never stopped working. He needs it working when he flies, after all. Picking the hotel was a bit harder. His 'plan' had been to remain in New York, maybe visit her over the weekend. It was a plan that he built in about fifteen seconds and that Lorna changed in ten.

So he now he has unexpected semi-vacation time with a distraught green-haired beauty that thought he disliked her just hours ago. Good thing he has never said no to adventure.

"Welcome to Rio," he says with a grin, opening the car's door and moving around to open Lorna's side. "You look tired, let me take you to your room?"

Polaris has posed:
Lorna opened her eyes to turn her focus toward Roberto as he opened the door to her side of the car. She exhaled an amused breath, and bonelessly made to drag herself out of the driver's seat. She glanced back at the seat in the back, that contained her leather jacket, and single backpack. "You know, traveling by portal is so much more convenient. I forgot just how slow everything else is. No wonder Pietro hates travel.." She muttered, heaving a sigh as she leaned a hip against the door frame before she fully extricated herself.

Her green eyed gaze swung around them, and she inhaled deeply, slowly. "I've never been this far south on the American continent before, I mean.. I might have been for a mission.. but that hardly counts." She turned her focus back to Roberto.

"So where's my room gonna be?"

Sunspot has posed:
"Top floor," replies Roberto, reaching for the backpack. "The whole top floor," he adds with a faint smirk. "I love the view, in fact... come," he wraps an arm around her waist, which immediately triggers the aurora lights effect. He forgot.

"Oops... well, it is dawning, not likely anyone is awake." He pulls ups, his skin going black, and flies Lorna up the twenty something floors of the hotel. It is only fair, since she took him here all the way from New York. Also, much more fun than the elevator.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna blinked in mild surprise as Roberto informed that her 'room' was the whole top floor. The entire. Floor. Didn't even have that much space in the Palace in Genosha. She shared the top floors with the other royal suites. Her father had his quarters and so did her siblings (not that they stayed there much). The concept of having the entire top floor was still slowly processing in her mind as the Brazilian leaned forward and wrapped an arm around her waist and lifted them both into the air.

A sound of surprise escaped the green haired mutant and she wrapped her arms around him tightly, as if she was actually in any actual danger. The instinctive motion couldn't be helped when she wasn't the one directing the flight path after all.

Still, the brilliant sparkle of the limited, localized, aurora between the two of them was distracting enough that Lorna couldn't help but grin, tired as she was. She pushed her hair back from her face as they climbed up to the top floor in spectacle style and landed.

"Well. I don't know what I was expecting when I agreed to come all the way down here.. but this certainly wasn't what I was expecting." She breathed, looking around them both.

Sunspot has posed:
"Good, I hope you have a good time here," replies Roberto, landing on the top of the building. There is a large pool at one side, and the glass doors to a large suite at the other, the door open. It is warm even at five in the morning, as it is spring in Rio. The Copacabana beach spreads just in front of them, just a couple hundred yards from the hotel's doors.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna glanced over at the pool, the glass doors and the massive suite before her that stretched out over the roof top's entire space with a raised brow. "Well, I can see why you might consider the amenities at Xavier's to be a bit lack-luster after all of this." She drawled, her voice dry and faintly amused. Her green eyed gaze swung back toward him as she stepped away from his side.

"Tell me you don't have something super extra in there like a golden toilet or something." She was teasing, well and truly teasing, and despite the shadows the hung about her eyes, she was at least trying to lighten up.

"So, any bets before someone notices I left my phone back at the Mansion and starts to try to track me down?"

Sunspot has posed:
"Hey, I don't usually live here," replies Roberto, heading inside and going straight to the drinks cabinet. Obviously he has lived here at some point. That or he knows the layout of his hotel rooms.

"My father's house is in Ipanema," he points westwards. "This is Copacabana. Most of the south of the city are safe, wealthy neighborhoods. I'll show you during the weekend, if you want to do some sightseeing."

How long? Lets see. Magneto's control-freakiness against Xavier respect for privacy plus how many know about Lorna's mother. "I'd say we have until noon. Maybe a little more."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna nodded once as she trailed after Roberto's figure into the glass wrapped suite. She arched a brow as he moved to make some drinks and she eyed the various bottles on hand. She leaned against the bar top counter, her gaze falling to inspect the mirrored surface there as it reflected her own image back to her. "Uh huh... I see. Where did you spend most of your time then?" She drawled, and as Roberto continued about the various places she could see, she tilted her head.

"I want to stay, we'll see how long I manage. I don't have any particular plans, so whatever think might be worth it to visit." She shrugged, folding her arms as she considered his words.

"Noon?" She laughed, and smiled weakly. "Well, then I guess I'd better get tipsy, eat something and enjoy the pool before then, hmm? I imagine if my father sends someone or something, it won't be pretty. He hates South America by and large.."

Sunspot has posed:
"Maybe you should sleep a few hours," he suggests. She certainly looks tired. Nevertheless he mixes some drinks and offers her a glass. Mostly tropical fruits juice, but it has some rum too. "And I imagine so. He must have people able to track you down if he really wants to. I can't help you there, but maybe we are still in time to call Tony Stark or someone that can do it," he half-jokes.

"Ah, and food..." he slides to a nearby table and peruses a menu card. "We can order some breakfast already. It is not too early."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna shrugged again, heaving another sigh. "I'll sleep after my head gets a little settled, like after food and something to drink." She mused, and reached for the drink he made and offered her. She made a surprise sound at how tasty it was, and carefully seeming to enjoy what she was drinking at least.

"I know my father has people to keep track of me, though, if I slipped them he might get irritated enough to find me himself.. and well.. I can't actually hide from him if I wanted to." She wiggled her fingers as if that explained it. Her face fell to the menu card and she hmmed.

"Well, I'll trust you, order something good. I'll eat anything. Remember, I was planning to eat dinner food.."

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto chuckles, "it is okay, we are two hours ahead of New York." He makes a brief phone call, speaking quickly in Portuguese, then he looks back to Lorna. "Give them about twenty minutes."

He gets a drink for himself, but avoiding alcohol. He plans to go to work at eight at DCI Rio's office, after all. Fortunately as long as he has good sunlight he has super-human stamina. Later, in the evening, he is going to crash hard.

"I guess I'll keep you company until you go to sleep," says the young man. "If you allow me. Is there anything you want to do next afternoon?"

Polaris has posed:
Lorna stifled a yawn as she sipped at her drink, her fingers trailing against the condensation there. "Well, that's nice to know, I forgot about that time change thing. I always fall into a mess between Genosha and New York.." But having ties to the magnetic fields had its benefits, physically her body drew harder on them the more exhausted she got.. It wasn't the best way to stay upright, but it was better than nothing.

"I dunno, got some swimsuits around? I want to try out your pool. " She mused, setting her drink down and glancing back at him.

"If you need to crash though, I can try to sleep, I guess."

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto shakes his head. "It is dawning, no way I could sleep now unless I go hide in a dark basement." And even then he will -feel- the sun rising in his bones. It makes sleep pretty difficult. Definitely a morning person here.

"No. I will check in the main office and get some work done," he decides. "I will also have some swimsuits sent to you. Ah... I bet you didn't pack the right clothes for a trip to the tropics. I'll see what can I do for that, too."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna blinked in surprise, "Huh, I didn't realize that you were so attuned to the sun. That makes sense. I'm sorry I hadn't realized it before." She murmured, and offered a faint smile in Roberto's direction. She reached up to drag her fingers through her hair. And leaned back against the bar top.

A small laugh escaping her as he mentioned her lack of tropical clothing options. "You're right, I didn't pack anything like that.. It's all over in Genosha. I rarely pack anything like that for New York, and well, I was expecting to be somewhere less humid.." She murmured, "Thank you.. Roberto.. Really. I'm sorry I kind of kidnapped you all the way down here." She added, a faint dusting of pink on her cheeks appearing as she glanced down.

Sunspot has posed:
"No, my pleasure," replies Roberto, smiling back. "I could have said no, but I wanted to come with you," he admits. "To be honest, I went to your room for more to check out if you were alright. I wanted to ask you out for a date."

And now they are here. Which is something like a date? Well, it does not feel like kidnapping to him! (Live at Xavier's long enough and you know what a kidnapping feels like).

Polaris has posed:
A blink, and Lorna's lips parted in surprise as she considered him and his admittance on //why// he had been heading to her room. Beyond just checking up on her and how she was. She stared for a long moment, before heat colored over her cheeks and she glanced down. "Oh.. well," She coughed, clearing her throat slightly as her gaze darted back up to him.

"Surprise ten hour plus date?" She offered, somewhat sheepish as she shoved her hands into the pockets of her ripped jeans.

"Not sure if you want the car ride to count as one though." She mused aloud.

Sunspot has posed:
"No, I am going to say it didn't count," decides Roberto, smiling again at seeing Lorna blushing. "You were too busy flying the car and I spent half the time with phone calls. That wasn't good enough time for a date, but at least I get to have breakfast with you. And we will have good opportunities the next few days." A pause, "that is, if you are interested."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna exhaled a breath, laughing softly as she leaned back against the bar top's smooth counter in thought. Her head tilted back slightly as she glanced up at the ceiling for a brief moment. "I uhm... well.. I don't typically get asked out on dates these days." She mused, Pietro and Wanda had had far more dates and serious relationships in the past year than she'd had since High School.

"I'm not saying that I'm not interested." She added, finally turning her gaze back to Roberto. "I'm er... still, processing the fact that you asked me out after seeing my special brand of crazy." She bit her lower lip.

"And ya know, that whole my father thing. Sure you want to deal with the press of all that if we ah.. uhh.. date more than once?" She drawled.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto moves closer to Lorna, shaking his head. "I am asking you for a date, not your father. Girl, I know a bit about troublemaking fathers with overwhelming personalities and all kinds of plans for their children. And I know a bit too about being a public figure that is more hated than loved. Brazil is not as bad as America for mutants, but the color of my skin has usually given me enough trouble."

He reaches with a hand to touch her cheek, again causing ghostly lights to appear around them. "I think I like your special brand of crazy. At least good enough I want to know you better."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna tilted her head to the side as Roberto approached closer, closing the distance to a more intimate level. She felt her heart jump in her chest as he reached out with a hand to trace along her cheek. The low twinkle of lights that sparked between them in the soft morning light caught her eye and she reached up a hand to lightly close against Roberto's hand.

"Last I checked you had issues with my whole being his heir and how Genosha's run too, not just him sitting on a throne and being my dad." She drawled, arching a brow upward.

"Are you sure you're okay with being tied to me publically? I thought you couldn't accept my help before because of those reasons... dating me kind of goes against all of that." She let her cool finger tips remain on his hand, her gaze sweeping over her his features as if searching for something there.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto shakes his head, "I honestly don't think how Genosha is ruled makes you any less attractive. We can argue the advantages and disadvantages of democracy over monarchy all day long and I would still want to date you."

He lowers his hand, though, not wanting to go too far when Lorna is very tired and still emotionally distraught. "If you are concerned about the public opinion, we can also attempt to keep low profile. At least the first date, hmm?"

Polaris has posed:
Lorna exhaled a short breath, a smile pulling at the corners of her lips as she considered him, his hand lowering. She found part of her missed the warmth there, and she reached up to push her hair back from her face instead of reaching out toward him. She knew exhaustion was making her head foggier than usual, and stubbornly didn't want to admit that much even in her mind.

"I don't care about public opinion, but I knew it might impact you and what you're trying to accomplish. I've had boyfriends break up with me due to who I'm related to. So it's a bit of a sore spot.. and I'm only asking because I don't want to wake up three months from now and have you tell me that it's all too much.." She bit her lower lip, and glanced down.

"And that's after only having dated X-men with mutant powers. You can see why I don't try that whole dating thing often.." She offered with a faint, bitter, laugh.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto shrugs. "I think we have more serious problems than... tabloids and rumor. But if you are that worried, I am also quite sure we can find a way to give it a positive spin." He changes the tone to mock-official. "My public relations people will talk with your public relations people."

He grins a bit, taking her hand. "Lorna. If it is a too much of a problem, you only have to tell me you are not interested. Or that it is not the right moment now. We are certainly very busy people. I have not seriously dated in two years myself. But I want to try."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna wrapped her hand through his as Roberto took it and she hung her head, her other hand pressing against her forehead. "I'm rambling, this is me rambling, by the way. Stay awake long enough and my thoughts just blurt out all over the place." She muttered, and made a face. "Ruins my image." She added and exhaled another sigh.

"I //am// interested in a date. Maybe more.. I am." She protested, and there hung a but in her words. It hung in the air between them for a moment before she finally voiced it.

"But I needed to make sure, that you knew. 'Disclaimer, dating me will cause problems.'" She shook her head and gave his hand a squeeze, noting the swirls of light that followed.

Sunspot has posed:
"Noted. Dating will cause problems," he steps closer again, almost so their bodies are touching. "Also, water is wet. But we are young and powerful and I am insanely wealthy. A good deal of problems are solved with time and money. So moving forward I..."

Then there is a knock at the door, and Roberto, who had just reached with a hand for Lorna's hip, has to stop himself. "Must be the food. Just in time, and still the wrong time. Ah well," he steps back and walks to open the door.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna laughed softly as Roberto spoke, and he was an inch, two inches? Away from her physically and she felt her heart speed up with a thrum that she could feel through to her toes and back. She looked as if she were going to say something before the knock at the door sounded and he stepped away. She felt the departure of his figure, in the lack of heat that seemed to move in the world with him inherently. Of course, that could've been normal for anyone, but she wasn't sure.

A rough exhale followed and she pushed her hair to the side again as he opened the door and greeted whoever was on the other side.

"Right.. breakfast date. How many of those do people typically have?" She muttered, arching a brow as she more of less lingered by the bar top, and reached for her long since forgotten drink.

"I'll give you points for uniqueness?"

Sunspot has posed:
"You would be surprised," comments Roberto from the rather distant door. Apparently there is an elevator at the side of the suite, behind some furniture since it is all open floor (it just seems to go on and on).

He returns alone, but carrying a couple large trays. Scrambled eggs, bowls with rice, salads, and also an alarming number of sweets. It could be a breakfast, but it will work as dinner too. There is a teapot among the food, although Lorna might have noticed there is also a coffee making machine in a corner of the room.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna blinked as Roberto just.. kept walking, she wasn't used to the open concept design, the Mansion certainly built that way. Nor was the Palace in Genosha. And more over with the servants in the Palace.. her food was wheeled in to the room where ever she was. Still, she moved to help immediately as she spotted just how much Roberto had ordered.

"Well shit, you don't do anything by halves do you? I was expecting maybe some eggs and bacon. Toast?" She drawled, waving her hands to magnetically help lift the trays away and to find a place to set them down.

"Did you order everything the kitchen has?"

Sunspot has posed:
"I don't like to do anything halfway, no," admits Roberto. "But this is hardly everything. The restaurant here is very good. This is just some variety. And, er... toast is somewhere... here!" Under a small covered tray. "Try everything. Eat what you like the most. I don't know yet what you like, but I am a fast learner."

He will also help her sit down, and take a place close at the table. Most of the dishes are typical from Brazil, so Lorna might find herself a little lost. And this was deliberated, because telling her what is in each plate is fun.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna settled on the edge of the chair as Roberto ushered her over, and she set the food down on the table top. She glanced side long at him, arching a brow and grinning as he pulled out the toast. She snorted as she laughed, and covered her lips with her hand. "I'll have to trust your judgement.. I don't actually know what any of this is beyond the obvious. " She murmured and picked a plate up, poking with a fork things here and there as she eyed each and scooped something onto her plate.

"So how many languages do you know? I know you know Portuguese, and English.. but what else?" She asked, arching a brow as she tried some fruit, orange in hue and sweet smelling.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto also takes a few things. Although in his case it is aimed to be a breakfast, as his plan is to leave Lorna sleeping and then fly to the DCI headquarters. The question surprises him a bit, and he looks at the green-haired woman with some curiosity. "Ah, Spanish. I am hardly bi-lingual, but the rest of South America speaks Spanish, so it is almost as important to know as English. I also can speak a bit of Latin. Amara said my accent is terrible, though."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna smiled briefly as she waved her hand and twirled a a fork between her fingers, her powers making it that much more creative in movement. "I never grew up with anything beyond what America has in the education system. I learned a smattering of German in high school, and picked up a little Yiddish here and there.. But.." She shrugged.

"I barely speak anything beyond English, though I've tried. I'm very bad at being Princess of a country that accepts refugees from all over the world." She sighed heavily, "I wish I knew more." She mused, propping her chin up as she nibbled away at the various bits of fruit and some kind of pastry that looked like a fried kind of bread.

Sunspot has posed:
"Languages do help understand the people," offers Roberto. He hears that from Doug plenty, but he knows from experience. "Do you know Xavier can teach languages telepathically? Maybe other telepaths can too. You could check it own, since there must be a good number of them in Genosha. It would also help the newcomers to adapt, of course."

It would also be a good business for a telepath wanting to earn a living. So yes, the X-Corp has done some research on those things. "Try the tapioca pudding," he offers.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna arched a brow upward, "That's certainly true, though Genosha runs on a mixture of languages, we have been using telepaths to smooth over communication. It certainly helps. Maybe I should talk to Doug about developing a more universal language base or writing system for people. It would be easier.. since, well, not everyone is super into having telepaths in their heads." She murmured, her father included.

Her frame leaned forward as she reached for the tapioca pudding ans she dipped a spoon into it before trying, a thoughtful look crossing her features. "It's pretty good." She added, smiling. "I really needed food, I didn't realize how hungry I was.."

Sunspot has posed:
"You spent a lot of energy flying here," offers Roberto with a grin. "I am solar-powered so I don't need much, but I have seen what the other New Mutants used to eat after a grueling Danger Room session. It was crazy. They looked like pro athletes after an important match."

He has to agree about the telepaths in the head. Although after a while in Xavier's one gets used to it. Of course not every telepath is up to the school ethical standards. On the other hand he can't see Magneto being too respectful with the privacy of others if he has telepaths in his payroll. He got that old in part by being quite paranoid.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna shrugged once, "I'm not like my brother, he burns through food so quickly. I think he's eating more than he's not. And I do draw from the magnetic fields. It can keep me going past most human limits.. staying awake, brushing off hits, probably extending my life..." She mused, shrugging. "I don't know the limits of it, my ties with the fields. I don't know how long I'll live either, minus that whole people trying to kill me bit.. I don't know what my natural life span will be." She exhaled a breath.

"I can't tell you how many weird looks I got when I tried to research my father's family in Germany. No one believed me when I said I was the daughter of a Holocaust survivor. Not in this decade anyways." She pursed her lips and reached for a bun of fried bread, making an appreciative sound.

Sunspot has posed:
"Not something we will have to worry right now," muses Roberto. How long are going to live the mutants able to draw energy from some external source? Or those who heal faster than normal? But the questions are idle curiosity, there are people trying to kill them, that is a more immediate problem. Ugh.

"Here to live forever," he offers finishing his drink and leaning back. "The sun is up, this place is very luminous, but the bed there," he points to a side of the room. "Has heavy curtains, and the glass can be polarized to black most light. I'll show you the controls."

Polaris has posed:
Lorna shrugged as she finished off the roll she'd been nibbling on and she smiled faintly as she clapped off the crumbs from her fingers. "No, but amusing to think about.." She sighed, and as Roberto gestured toward the bed, she felt the weight of her exhaustion piled onto her shoulders. As if she hadn't really allowed herself to think about sleep before. Thought she was well and truly tired.

"Well, I can take a hint. You made sure I've eaten something, and now you're telling me, subtly that I'm falling asleep where I'm sitting." She mused, getting up from her seat as she glanced in the direction Roberto gestured to.

Sunspot has posed:
"Ah, menina, I couldn't be subtle," admits Roberto, chuckling. He stands up to help her, but she is up faster, so he stands by her side. "Call me if you need anything, hmm?" There is a landline phone, and he leaves a card at the side, since the number he will use is from Brazil, not the American one. He will get her a burner as soon as possible. "In any case I will be here at four or so. Will you be alright?"

Polaris has posed:
Lorna twisted slightly as he came up to stand beside her. She arched a brow as he left a card for her, and turned her gaze back to him again. "I'll sleep, I'll wake up, make something to drink and pass out beside the pool. Hopefully not have to deal with my father until later." She bit her lower lip, and dragged her hands through her hair.

"I can't promise I'll be here when you get back, you know. I want to say I will see you when you get back, but well.." She shrugged again, and reached out a hand to press against his chest if allowed.

"Thank you, for everything, and I did enjoy our breakfast date." She murmured.

Sunspot has posed:
"That's is fine," agrees Roberto, "it is a big city, you can go out and sightsee and hide a bit further." Or if Magneto comes for her, he is sure they will meet again at the School in a week or three. "You are my guest for as long as you want."

When she reaches with his hand, Roberto hmms, and puts his own hands on Lorna's hips, pulling her closer. This time he doesn't hesitate, his lips brushing hers if she doesn't pull back quickly.

Polaris has posed:
Lorna shrugged, he knew her concerns that her father might sense her movement, her lack of response and that he might very well show up and demand answers. Or send someone. She had slipped past her minder's that watched Xavier's, she knew they were there, and she hadn't the least bit of concern for their needing to explain to their boss what had happened.

A smile pulled at her lips again as Roberto waved off her words, accepting them without pause. Then his hands were settling on her hips, pulling her closer and she felt herself meld against him. She returned the kiss, seeming to enjoy it in a lazy manner, sliding her arms around him and holding him close. The lights of the aurora were brilliant and swirled around them, twisting around the pair where ever there was physical contact between them.

Sunspot has posed:
Roberto had aimed for a short farewell kiss, but it lingers considerably longer. It feels right, she feels perfect.

But she also needs a long sleep, so he breaks the kiss, gives her a warm hug and steps back. "Sleep well, beautiful," he says quietly. "I'll see you soon," he promises, heading out into the awakening city.
