Synopsis: Sam reminds Shannon of some things she already knows.
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Nightingale

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie is in his room om the chair he is in most times for his talk with students. He calls out "Come in to Shannon as she knocks on the door having been expecting her.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon slips inside the room and closes the door, giving Sam a fierce hug. By the puffy look of her eyes, and the /very/ ragged state of her wings--perhaps even flightless at this point--she's been through the wringer. "Hey... kind of surprised you're here at this hour..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will hug her back, and says "Alexis wanted to practice a bit and I needed to do some paperwork. "Whats wrong kiddo?" He asks her

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon flops down in one of the recliners, a stray feather floating into the air as she settles in with something of a -whump- sound. "Figured I'd take a nap after we got back from the hike this morning, but man... the nightmares. They were bad. Really bad. I got a lot off my chest to Chris... but I'm also pretty sure this isn't going to be the last time they happen. And it's just not something I know how to cope with." She runs her fingers through her hair and lets out a deep sigh. "I'm guessing you've seen some pretty hairy stuff out there, and you run into nightmares, too. How do /you/ deal with them?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Well Find someone to talk to, thinking about how Ah can do better next time, reading all night till exahustion kicks in." He offers her a smile

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods slowly. "These never happened before now. Just... last night, there was another one of those transmissions. And part of it got pretty creepy, a big bloodshot eye looking through the camera /at/ us. Kitty, Bean, Chris and I were all there. And it was like it was trying to communicate with us in real time. Couldn't sleep at all for the rest of the night, and when I took that nap..." She shudders hard, instinctively wrapping her wings around herself. "Not only did I see that thing in my nightmares, but every single success I've ever had out in the field, turned into the worst possible failure. Every life ever saved, every injury ever healed, gone. Dead. I completely broke down and went to the wellness office. This is stuff I've been keeping in for months, and now that the genie's out of the bottle, I'm not sure how to cope."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Well first thought might be talk to Emma, or Jean as they have studied the mind and such but also we others can try to help. You have done very good in the field, and you are doing realy good kiddo. You have to remember that you were successful. No one can take your successes away from you.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon frowns slightly at mention of talking to Emma. "I'm... hesitant, because I don't know her well and I don't know just how far I'd want her poking about inside my brain box, to count the bats in my belfry. Jean... it's tempting. My biggest fear is that I won't be seen as good enough anymore for New Mutants, or anything else after graduation. It means a /lot/ to be able to get out there and actually make a difference like we do. I don't want that taken away."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie makes a pinching motion at her, and says "Your not going to get kicked out. They kept me, they will keep you around, but there is something you need to remember. You can make a difference no matter where you are, where is not the important part, wanting to and working for it are the parts you have to remember are the ones that count

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon meeps and shies away from that pinching gesture, her hands coming up to block her face and torso. "You've been listening to Alexis too much!" she squeaks, but manages to smile a little. "Yeah... yeah I'd say I've been working my butt off for it. At least, I think I have. So if that's what counts..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "You want to make a difference help people you just keep trying, Heck girl it aint going to happen, but if for some reason you had to leave the school tomorrow Ah have faith you would still be seeking ways to help people and make a difference, and it aint always gonna have to be a superhero

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon tries to flick a stray feather at him, but it only ends up wafting through the air harmlessly. "Oh for frak's sake... I'm not a hero! Just someone who won the genetic lottery and wound up with a few extra gifts that have done some good."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her and says "But your wanting to be one, and you need to remember, not al heroes are super. Making a difference helping people is not with your genetics it is with your heart.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon opens her mouth as if to answer that, and then just shuts it again with a little /click/ of her teeth. "You're trying to make me say I already am one, aren't you?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie points to himself, and says "Me, would I want you to realize your try to help people and successed or fail your going to keep trying, na, Ah aint that smart.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon rolls her eyes and reaches for the nearest throw pillow she can find, to fling it at Sam with an actual giggle. "Yell at the Captain all you want about my language this time, but you are so full of bullshit. You are /so/ that smart, and you ain't convincing me otherwise."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie catches the pillow and offers her a smile, and says "We all have doubts and there are times we have nightmares, but you just gotta remind yourself, your making a difference your trying, you have people you care about and who care about you.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods and smiles back some. "Okay so maybe I'm a /little/ bit of a hero. Maybe. Very big maybe. Heck, even the greats started out somewhere." Her brows furrow. "And I bet they see even worse things, and they get the nightmares, too." She smiles some, tilting her head and pursing her lips as she thinks a moment. "I know Jean's often got her hands full, not really sure I want to bother her with this. It's not exactly an earth-shattering emergency. I don't know Emma well enough to feel comfortable asking her. Got a message out to Kitty and Kurt to get their input, too. They're always saying come talk to them, well, they're gonna get their ears talked off."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon gets up and hugs Sam tight. "I'll probably wind up talking your ears off, too... it's gonna take a while to work through this, it was bottled up for so long. But you're right, there are people who care, and okay okay... I'm not /trying/ to be a hero, I /am/ one. There, I said it. Sneaky devil."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie grins a bit and will hug her back and says "Just remember that the title aint the important thing it is that you keep trying and your helping folks

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head. "I think you might've misunderstood there, big brother. The title ain't shit. I've come to love the people on the team and it'd freaking kill me to be taken away from that. I've also been coming to really care about the people on the other teams, too, and I'd be happy as a pig in mud if I had the same chance to work with them one day."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles a bit and says "Well, you don't need to worry about being kicked off hon, and if you needed to improve something Ah would tell ay

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and tilts her head. "Actually, when I was working on that aerial survey project, the one that Bean, Chris, and I are working on with Logan, I did run across one thing that could use some improvement. When my feathers grow back, that is. My low-altitude flying sucks, badly. I mean, I've got my drop-kick maneuver there, and skimming across the lake for a short distance is fine, but if it's anything more extended than that, I could wind up in trouble and risk crashing."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "We can work on it but honestly not sure how low you can go as you need to keep your wing clearance and such. We should look at some danger room footage measure how low your wings go

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles some. "That's one of those limitations I never really found out. The times I get real close to the lake, I'm gliding, and usually going so fast that all I have to do is spread my wings, angle my body just right, and I swoop right back up again."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "But gliding and flying are different beasts for you. Will look at he recordings.
