Not Your Uncle's Monkey...Not Like We Have An Uncle Anyway
Date of Scene: 19 November 2019
Location: New Lots, Brooklyn
Synopsis: Leonardo and Raphael patrol and plan on pizza, but they are surprised to meet a chimp who seems to know about them.
Cast of Characters: Leonardo, Detective Chimp, Raphael

Leonardo has posed:
Another night around Brooklyn, and a pair of turtles are out on patrol. For their differences, for their brotherly rivalry, Leonardo and Raphael make a very formidable pair when it comes to dealing with trouble. They know each other so well, they often work in tandem without even needing to call things out. That's how well they've been trained, no matter how much bickering they can get into.

It just so happens that they're in the vicinity of Angelo's, with both of them hungry. Funny how that works. "You want to ring them up, or should I?" the blue-masked one asks from the pizzeria's rooftop. "And while we're waiting, have you run into anything interesting lately?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp had a case in the area, and tried to flag down a cab, that can be hard for normal times, when your a chimp even worse. So Bobo is walking down the street, with a cigar in his mouth, little trail of smoke following him. He starts to walk past, Angelo's and his stomach rumbles. He is getting a few looks, but shrugs and starts to head towards the pizza joint.

Raphael has posed:
Raphael always enjoys teaming with Leo if they pair off. Not that the blue-banded turtle would likely ever know that. Raph knows they run better together, despite his independent streak, and while he often feels like he has to communicate his intent with Mikey and Donnie, Leo already knows. And that goes for pizza ordering, too, as his stomach growls just before Leonardo asks about ordering from the pizza shop below. "You do it," he says, "Ain't in the mood for talkin' to normal people right now."

The older brother's question causes him to blink, but he nods. "Yeah, actually. Was on patrol the other night, ran into another hero-type in red. Called himself Daredevil. Helped me break up a robbery, then we ran into some punk monkey kid." He shrugs. "It was pretty routine, but that red guy seemed a bit... off. Nice enough, but didn't seem like he was ever really lookin' at me."

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo phones in their usual, using a credit card to pay. It's one April's helped get set up for them, which interestingly enough only ever seems to have pizza orders put on it. Then, "Daredevil, huh? Sounds like some kind of risk-taker. And some monkey kid? Do you think it was another mutant?" he wonders. For poor Raph's sake, there are no questions forthcoming tonight about the Nightwatcher...yet. Then again, not asking could still play into the red-masked turtle's growing paranoia over that matter.

"Speaking of monkeys..." he murmurs, having tucked the phone away before moving toward the edge of the building as the scent of cigar smoke drifts upward. A thumb is jerked in Chimp's direction, a brow sliding up behind the mask. A silent question.

Raphael has posed:
Raph nods as Leo sets up dinner, leaning back against the rooftop as he watches the night in the city roll by. The City That Never Sleeps, and wasn't that the truth? The turtle loves and sometimes hates the city, given he can only be out at night and is forced to stick to the shadows, but where else could he ever live? Nowhere, is the answer.

Raph nods. "I think so, yeah, but he got it lucky. He can pass as human better than we ever could, Leo. Just a tail, really." He shakes his head, wondering if Leo had forgotten about Nightwatcher. Hopefully, but the doubt is there. Leo has a mind like a steel trap, after all.

When Leo lowers his voice, Raph takes a peek over, spotting Bobo entering the pizza shop with a confused look. He glances at his older brother, shaking his head. Not the same guy. Not at all, but what a coincidence!

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will stub his cigar out on the brick part of the building. He will head inside the building and is not in the place long before he comes back out hollaring back at the guy in the place. "Really cause I aint wearing shoes your really going to claim that?" He resists the urge to flip them off shaking his head, and reaches into his jack pulling out a flask and taking a long swig, and will stand in front of the place "Should so, complain to my congressman, like that would do any good." He mutters.

Leonardo has posed:
"I visited someone last night," Leonardo begins to add, but he has to put that bit of information hold as both of them hush up to an extent. Then the chimp goes inside, a bold move that leaves Leo standing upright further and giving Raph a look that suggests, 'Can you believe that?'

He adds, "Want to place a bet on how long it takes?" It really isn't long at all before the little guy is on the way out, complaining about this and that. Well, the turtles aren't in any shoes either. Good thing they have another way. Raphael gets another look, the unasked question clear: let it go, or hop down?

Raphael has posed:
Raphael blinks at Leo's statement, then crosses his arms. "Gonna be any more cryptic?" he shoots, shaking his head as the duo fall silent again. When Bobo goes straight into Angelo's, the red-banded Turtle's eyes go wide. "What a hero," he says sardonically, before the chimp is immediately on his way back out. "Shoulda seen that comin', pal..." As Leo glances at him, Raph is already in motion, dropping down into the alley and, stepping to the lip, calls out to the detective.

"Oi, bold move monkey man. Dumb, but bold."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp turns and says "This is New York, you going to tell me a chimpanzee in a suit is the weirdest thing they ever saw, probably not the oddest thing this week. He says turning and looks the turtle over a moment, blinking once in surprise but not seeming to be shocked. He notices the weapons and says "If your going to try to mug me, gonna want you I am a drunken monkey." He jokes.

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo muses, "I could be, but not this time. Went to see Richard Dragon. We discussed some things." Still cryptic. But, the name of the Dragon is a known one in the martial arts world, the man with the reputation of being a supreme master. Why would Leo have sought him out?

He follows his brother down, only because Raphael made the first move, and the slightly taller of the two turtles can also be seen, the katanas at his back. "That's not really what we're all about, but you couldn't have expected that to go any other way," he remarks, gesturing toward the building. He continues to use shadow to his benefit, there but not completely, clearly seen. "So what's your deal?"

Raphael has posed:
Richard Dragon? "You... why?" he asks quietly, before turning his attention back to Bobo, offering a grin from his shadowed position. "I ain't no mugger, buddy, I put muggers in the trash where they belong," he snaps, before sighing. "Sorry, hunger pains. We got some pies comin' from this place in a bit, but ain't either one of us fool enough to just walk in to a place like that. You from somewhere else, where mutants can just come an' go as they please or somethin'?"

There HAD to be a reason he'd do that. Or he just didn't care. But surely there was a better explanation!

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the turtles, and looks around as if expecting their to be more of them perhaps, and says "I aint a mutant, need to listen a bit more am a chimpanzee, talking walking drinking smoking Detective Chimp." He will tell them. "Most places might give ya a bit of grief, but you show them the green, they willing to think your some special effect, or something. You would be surprised how often greed outweighs shock." He will look around a bit and says "You got two more brothers somewhere around here?" He will ask them

Leonardo has posed:
"I needed another perspective on a few things with the Shredder and..Father." A pause. "And myself," Leonardo adds. Good luck parsing that answer, Raphael. He crosses his arms as he studies Detective Chimp, certainly not having expected to see one dressed like that, and it leaves him to shake his head.

He notes, "We might have a few slices left over, but come on, man. We could show them the green and that wouldn't get us any further than you." A different kind of green. Leonardo, giving a play on words? However, he shuts up for a few long moments at the last thing Bobo asks, shooting Raphael a quick glance. "What makes you think that?" he probes.

Raphael has posed:
"Yeah alright, chimpanzee. Whateva. What I mean is..." Raphael pauses as Detective Chimp speaks up, the idea striking him and being filed away for later. He knew, of course, that Splinter AND Leo would have his shell if he tried anything so foolish.

But shouldn't one of them try? How long could they REALLY stay hidden?

Leo gets a glance, but Raph is in no mind to parse that particular bit of cryptic speech from the blue-banded leader. Instead, he just shakes his head and focuses back on their new acquaintance who... asks a very particular question that puts the red powerhouse immediately on the defensive. His muscles tense ever so slightly, but otherwise he keeps calm and lets Leo talk now. That was way too good for a guess.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the two and says "Well used to know this fellow, who took four kids in to raise them as his own. Been about a decade and a half since I have ran into him, but the style of your weapons look right, and between the weapons and the speaking of master sounds like you might just maybe be martial artists. With the two of you looking rather similar, I don't think your Homo superior type of mutants, guessing more mutated." He says a bit of guess work and a bit of actual logic from what he has heard them say and do.

Leonardo has posed:
Whatever Leonardo and Raphael may have to go over later, it goes on the far back burner by the time Detective Chimp has finished replying to them. It leaves him just /staring/ first at the short ape, then at his brother. He rubs a finger around where an ear would be, were one more visible, and he clears his throat. Then he fades into the alley, tugging Raphael with him, his voice carrying. "Back to the roof. Now. Not out in the open like this." He looks..spooked.

Raphael has posed:
Raphael blinks as Detective Chimp speaks up again, and as he does Raphael's eyes go wider and wider. Had he really just dissected and figured them out in ONE ENCOUNTER? Raphael allows Leo to drag him back, though his eyes never leave Bobo. He barely can even process that Leonardo has spoken to him, but nods numbly and heads into the alley more completely, clambering back up to the rooftop with all the grace of a ninja but all the hesitance of a turtle who has just had his world shattered in a few short words.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will looks to the two and sighs a bit ad says "I aint going to bite." He will look down where they were standing for a moment, and looks up towards the nearby roofs. "Well I don't think you two can fly." He says and with the ease of one of his race he starts scaling the building and says to himself "Someone makes a Fay Rae comment I am chucking them off the flipping roof." He does stop about half way up hanging by his feet, and lights his cigar, and looks into a window "Oh sorry ma'am" He says at a scream and scurries on up to the top of the building.

Leonardo has posed:
Caught off-guard though he may be, Leonardo shows no hesitation or hindrance in getting back to the roof of the pizzeria. But, having another set of eyes potentially on them in the form of a woman spotting the chimp is..not optimal. So, he continues until he's behind a large heating and cooling unit. "All right, talk. How do you know about us and our Master? You said you met him and knew he had us." He is /all/ seriousness right now.

Raphael has posed:
Raphael is just a little too shocked by Bobo knowing about them. That sort of information could be useful in the right hands, and even though Raphael has played fast and loose, he can always try to say he's the only one like him if things go far too south. But this chimp knows their numbers, their Master, and inferred most of it from time passed and a throwaway knowledge of Splinter. So when Leo ducks behind the cooling unit, Raph is there with him, using his bulkier frame to make him seem far more intimidating than he felt.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp will moves a bit but not fully behind the unit, no he keeps himself out of arms reach of the two. "Yea, Hammy and I met when I was investigating sights of a werewolf in the slums. Took me a few days, but I had a few fancy gadgets, and he was still getting used to what he had became. I found a few things made me think he might be Japanese, so I got a bottle of sake. Put a note on it, that I wanted to talk, and met him at a local old warehouse.

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo has not reached for any of his weapons - there are shuriken at his belt as well as a couple other things - but he studies Bobo with as much scrutiny as he's ever put into anything before. "It's not 'Hammy,'" he points out, though he doesn't give the corrected version up so easily. Shifting his gaze toward Raphael briefly, frowning, he turns back toward the chimpanzee in the small set of clothing. "Then what?"

Raphael has posed:
Raphael is uncharacteristically quiet throughout this interrogation, but the mention of "Hammy" all but confirms what he needs to know. "Werewolf? Really?" he says quietly, "Guess I can't say much. Makes as much sense as we do." He crosses his arms and leans back, eyes closing. "This ain't really my area of expertise. You want me to go make sure the pies get where they're goin' bro?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp smirks and says "It is not Hammy to you, to me, after a couple bottles of Sake, and some whiskey it's Hammy." He tells the other "He and I talked, he was curious what my deal was the whole talking chimp, and I told him how I came to be, he told me how he came to be. I had already came out into the open with being a detective, but he was worried about you and your brothers. He thought they may come after you and he wanted you safe. I helped him a bit, got him some maps of the city and schedules for when people were going to place. He and I would meet about once a week at first but well you know how it is when your friends have kids." He jokes.

Leonardo has posed:
"That's a good idea," Leonardo says. "Just take them back home, and don't let Mikey eat all of them, okay?" He rubs the back of his head and adjusts the band, not concerned about letting his brother go off by himself, or with him staying here alone with the little monkey dude. He does not look pleased at the excuse for calling Splinter 'Hammy' but he lets it slide. Not the most important thing right now. "So how did you come to..be?" he asks, gesturing with a hand. He appears not to have much to say to the story shared with him, though he does add, "Sensei never told us about you."

Raphael has posed:
Raphael nods, then offers a turtle-like salute to the two of them. "I'll save ya the best pieces, bro. Catch me up when you get back." With that, he leaps off the side of the building, making his way through the alleys of Brooklyn to their pizza drop spot before heading back to the Lair, his head buzzing with revelations and ideas. Maybe... maybe it was time for the Turtles to step out of the shadows and into the pizza place.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the turtle and says "When a guy chimp meets the right girl chimp." He holds his hand up and says "Sorry could not resist." He will puff on his cigar, and says "A friend and I wondered across the fountain of youth, and it allowed us to be able to speak to anyone and a bit more. Wouldn't guess I was 77 would you?" He looks to Leo. He and I ran into a few issues, some hand guys were trying to do some bad mojo, and he and I put an end to it.

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo watches Raphael off, then flashes Bobo a withering glance at the birds and the bees joke. There is a grimace that follows the cigar smoke, but he refrains from making a point of it aloud. "I would have guessed about 75," he deadpans, crossing his arms. the Fountain of Youth...not what he would have guessed.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods a bit and says "Well, after the incident with the Hand, I needed to make sure they weren't going to go after your dad and you guys, so I made a bit of a spectacle of myself with it while your dad went back underground. There were a couple others who were helping us, and well some of them did not make it. You dad seems to have put his time into raising and training you guys, me, I put my time into seeing how many sips it took to get to the bottom of a rum bottle. "

Leonardo has posed:
"I don't need to know how many, so sorry in advance if that was meant to be a setup," Leonardo remarks. He turns away for a few seconds, a glance out around the area, and he says, "I guess for whatever it's worth, thanks for, you know, looking out for him. For us." Actual father or not, Splinter might as well be as far as they're concerned. "Do you live around here, then?"

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to him, and says "I live out of my office in Gotham." He will pull out a card and with a flick of the wrist send it towards Leo. He is ok throwing it, but expects Leo's reactions to make up for what skill Chimp maybe missing. I am a detective, best one you will ever meet, if I do say so myself and I do." He puffs his cigar, and says "I take it your dad is out traveling a bit?"

Leonardo has posed:
"He's probably watching his soap operas, trying to find a little peace and quiet," Leonardo remarks after casually reaching out a hand to snag the card out of the air, giving it a once-over before tucking it away somewhere in his belt. In fact, there's a perfect spot behind one of his shuriken. "We don't get over there very often. It's not exactly our area."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods his head a bit and says "Well, if your in need of help let me know, I would not mind seeing ya dad again, and would like to see a bit on how you all four turned out. May I ask, which you and your brother that I have met tonight are?

Leonardo has posed:
The blue-masked turtle offers, "I'll let him know we met. He might take up the rest of the night telling stories if he knows you as well as you say." The terrapin takes a few steps back, as if preparing to go, adding, "I am Leonardo, and you also met Raphael."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp nods, and says "Well it is good to meet you Leonardo, you do seem to do him well, you try to protect your brothers, sending Raphael off in case I was more than I appeared and this was some type of trick.

Leonardo has posed:
"I sent him off because we have a drop point for our pizza delivery," Leonardo points out, not so much sarcastically as in a matter-of-fact way. "And I hate to say it, but you might have more luck trying that than threatening to complain to someone."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks over and says "Yea, I might but if we don't put up a fight then things will never change, and it seems there are more and more people who are more than just normal human people any more."

Leonardo has posed:
Leonardo muses, his tone neutral by now. "So we've been noticing. We've spent most of our lives in secrecy." As he takes a few more steps away he adds, "It might be time for that to change soon." A hand lifts then falls, and he takes one step back off the rooftop, flipping into the night.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp watches the young turtle go, and says "Looks like the kid is taking lessons from Batman, hope they are as good as the seem, Hammy." He says to the air.
