Date of Scene: 20 November 2019
Location: Chinese Food Restaurant, Two Bridges
Synopsis: Cassie and Conner meet for Chinese, it wins over pizza this time.
Cast of Characters: Wonder Girl, Superboy

Wonder Girl has posed:
After they ran into each other the other day, there was a lot more effort to make running in again more on purpose than accident. To that end Cassie reached out, invited Conner out to Chinese food.

Why not pizza you ask. One can only eat so much pizza before hating life.

At the agreed upon time she's standing around just inside the door, looking a little more put together today. She did her hair, and even put on makeup. She's going to some tiny effort to not look like the mess she did the last time.

Superboy has posed:
It is impossible to hate pizza. So says Conner.

But Chinese is fine too, and doubly so if it comes with Cassie. Even if she usually looks like a mess. That comes with the territory. Punching bad guys is messy business.

So he is pretty surprised at meeting non-messy Cassie. Woah, she is not a kid anymore, and neither is him. "Cassie, you look... godly, I guess," he greets with a grin. "Is anyone else coming?"

Wonder Girl has posed:
Godly? There is a bit of confusion, but Cassie opts to accept that as the compliment it was clearly meant to be after a moment. Then she shakes her head at the question, "Nope. Was I supposed to invite others?"

Oh no! She might have flubbed the whole thing, but she soldiers on like the trooper she is and tries to not worry too much about missing a que somewhere, "I wasn't sure what you wanted, so I waited for you before ordering."

Superboy has posed:
Was she supposed to? Conner is not sure. They used to get together as a gang of friends or a team of heroes, so he assumed. Wrong, he guesses. "Well, you tell me... er," fortunately she moves on quickly. "Hmm," he grabs a menu card and skims over. Everything looks great, at least whatever dishes he can remember. "Have you been here before? What is good?" He asks, peering over the card.

Wonder Girl has posed:
"I've never been here before, but Mom says that it's really good." Cassie shakes her head before she moves to look at the menu, quickly scanning it before she starts to point out a few things, "Dumplings are always a great choice, and..."

And. Well. There's a pause at the and before she taps one of the noodle dishes, "That sounds pretty good, too. And the cold veggies looks good, if that's the route you want to go."

Superboy has posed:
Dumplings and noodles, good plan, Conner nods and grins. Pass on vegetables. "Lets try the first two choices. How is your mom? Still giving you a hard time?" Probably not, since Cassie is an adult now.

Right?

Conner clearly has little experience with parents.

Wonder Girl has posed:
"Ugh."

That explains everything, doesn't it? Cassie shakes her head at him before she starts to wind through the room to claim one of the tables, shedding her jacket when she gets there and dropping it onto the back of her chair. "Mom is fine...she's been working. As usual...and yeah, she'll give me a hard time until I'm like...a million. Then she might lighten up on me."

Superboy has posed:
Conner hahs. "Well, business as usual, I guess. But hey, you are old enough." Which, hmm, weren't they always 'old enough'? "I mean, you can even get even drunk now, right? Or maybe not, but you could if you... could. Not being a demi-goddess, I mean. I know I can't."

He is not going to be technically old enough for many, many years. But his fake id card says he is 20. He still can drink in Mexico. And most of Europe!

Wonder Girl has posed:
The life of super heroes! Cassie gets it, she does. "I could legally buy alcohol, yeah. But there's not much point in it..." She leans forward, resting her elbows on the table before she shrugs her shoulders, "I'd go broke trying to afford enough to even give me a five minute buzz."

Alas! She doesn't seem to broken up by it, though. Others might be excited by the chance to legally drink, but she does far more exciting things. "How're you, though? Like, for real...school? Friends?"

Superboy has posed:
Conner nods. "Well, sure... I have been in college a couple years, and I think I am going to go for a major in political science," he offers. "Not to go into politics!" He states, suddenly realizing it might have sound he would.

Perish the thought.

"I just to know how governments work," he explains, "and how the world works. I think it is going to be important if I want to take... well, y'know? Tim thinks he is not dead, and I am pretty sure he is right, but even if HE is not dead, some day I might need to take his place and I need to be ready."

Wonder Girl has posed:
"Political science." Cassie looks surprised, and suitably impressed for a moment before she nods, "No...No. I mean, I get it. I do." She really does! It's spoken earnestly, because she really seems to want him to understand that she //gets it//.

"I still haven't declared any kind of major, I'm just sort of...faking it. Soon they're going to tell me that I need to declare something. But I just don't know what I want to do."

Superboy has posed:
"Ah, so you are going college too," because Conner was not sure. Do they have universities in Paradise Island anyway? "Well, I suppose it is not very important. We are going to be superheroes, aren't we? The rest is... well, it is useful. I mean, pretty sure Tim has five doctorates already. College is not just studying all the time. So yeah, I have made some friends. I even seriously dated a girl for over year." He tsks, a bit sad about that bit. "What about you?"

Wonder Girl has posed:
"Yeah...mom insisted I go to college." Which probably isn't shocking at all, considering her mother. "She wants me to major in history or something...which I //love//, but."

Superhero.

"I've made some friends, sure. Haven't dated anyone at all. I mean...I guess I've gone on a few dates, but..." Cassie shrugs her shoulders, clearly indicating that there wasn't anything at all serious.

Superboy has posed:
Conner looks at Cassie with some curiosity. Not dating much? That seems strange, since Cassie is not shy, and certainly she looks great. Much better he remembered, or is that he never paid enough attention. Lets not go there...

The waitress to ask for their orders comes to drag him out of his train of thought. There is a brief pause to rethink food choices.

"You know what? Get your history major, why not?" He grins. "We can have some fun while we fight to save the world, right? Like now, Chinese food."

Wonder Girl has posed:
The curious look gets a curious one in return, and she looks like she might just ask him what he's thinking when the waitress arrives. It doesn't just derail his train of thought, but her own.

No rethinking things for her, she gets a rice dish, dumplings, the vegetables, and a few eggrolls before she looks at him, waiting to see what he opts for before she smiles, "Yeah...We can have some fun while we fight to save the world."

Superboy has posed:
"Exactly, I am pretty sure even Wonder Woman has a hobby or two," decides Conner. "Well, probably not Batman. Unless his hobby is creeping out and terrifying everyone. Now I think about it, it probably is."

Batman seems to be fine, recovering after the fight with Superman. Conner might be a little annoyed about it.

"Anyway, so you aren't dating anyone right now? Seriously?" He asks, looking for confirmation with poorly disguised interest.

Wonder Girl has posed:
"Oh! She's got hobbies. She loves history, you know." Right? Cassie has unique perspective on this, but it's all colored by that museum her mother works at in a way. "I'm also pretty sure that Batman's hobbies include lurking in shadows, and hanging out on rooftops." She lifts her arm, curling it across her lower face in a reasonable attempt at faking a cape.

But the question about her dating life causes her to drop her arm, and she shakes her head, "I'm not dating anyone, seriously or not seriously."

Superboy has posed:
Conner snickers about Batman, because mocking scary people from a safe distance is amusing. And what a coincidence Wonder Woman also likes history. There might be some ammo to tease Cassie there some point in the future. For old times' sake, if nothing else. "Well... hmm," he hesitates. Uncommon for him.

"Well, okay. If you aren't dating anyone, would you like to meet next Saturday evening," he asks. "We can go patrolling. Or go watch a movie. Anything you like."

Wonder Girl has posed:
The hesitation might be uncommon, but Cassie takes it as purposeful. Like he's working up to some joke, or tease, or something. So she just smiles in amusement, bracing for whatever he might be about to unleash.

Only not that. Now it is her turn to hesitate, trying to make the 'you aren't dating anyone' part match with the very normal 'we can go patrolling' part...which is followed by that 'watch a movie' part which is very OBVIOUSLY....Maybe obviously? Cassie actually can't work it out if he's actually asking her on a date, or offering her a pity friendthing. So she does what makes sense for her, blurts out the question, "You mean like on a date?"

Superboy has posed:
See? Conner is not sure if it is a date. They have known each other since they were about 15 (well, about 1 in his case). That means (for him) they have been friends since forever. So 'like a date' bears some extra hesitation.

"No, yes," and that was because his mouth goes faster than his brain. "Maybe? Okay yes. You are gorgeous and I want a date with you."

Wonder Girl has posed:
There is a lot of uncertainty happening, because his hesitation makes her worry that she really messed up this time. And then his answer is confusing on its own at first.

But then he gets around to what sounds like a firm yes. Which means that now she has to really think about his question, and answer. "Maybe we can watch a movie then?"

Superboy has posed:
Conner smiles, relaxing visibly. He half expected a 'lets just be friends' and to be honest, it would have been also a relief. Because...

OH GOD. HE ASKED CASSIE FOR A DATE.

The others are never going to let him live it down. On the other hand, maybe they are going to be very jealous. "Movie it is," he agrees. "Want me to pick you up at your home and everything?"

Wonder Girl has posed:
Pick her up? That's so very official. Very proper! VERY DATE LIKE.

Cassie doesn't look at him for a moment, finding some spot on the table to suddenly be very interesting as she works through her own awkward embarassment about it.

And excitement. Can't forget that, either.

"Yeah, you can pick me up and everything. Saturday?" She glances up at him, and does her best to ignore what feels like her cheeks are on fire, "It's a date, then."

Superboy has posed:
"Looks like it is," agrees Conner, smiling. And the food is here too. Which saves Cassie from him commenting about all the blushing. They know each other pretty well, so he can't understand why she is blushing. Of course he is pretty much shameless, always has been.

"And maybe some supervillains will show up too," he offers, half whispering because of the waitress. "Just like old times."

Wonder Girl has posed:
"You want supervillains to show up on our date?" Cassie gives him an exasperated look at that, then she rolls her eyes, "How about we hope they don't, and save that maybe for a second date?"

She reaches for her fork, missing the entire thing about second date before the first one is hand. Instead she opts for, "What movie did you want to see?"

Superboy has posed:
"It always happens in the movies," protests Conner, not looking too serious about it. Besides they usually met to fight crime. Then again it might be Cassie prefers a quiet, romantic evening. That would be something different to his usual dates last couple years.

As for the movie, he has no idea. "Let me check the listings and I will text you. Or you can pick, of course."
