Chillin at the Mansion
Date of Scene: 27 November 2019
Location: Game Room, Avengers Mansion
Synopsis: Thor visits while Natasha is on watch duty. She learns of a threat from Apokolips that is on the horizon and then topics get much lighter.
Cast of Characters: Black Widow (Romanoff), Thor

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Natasha is on watch duty. Thankfully that just means having her communicator in her ear, her presence at the mansion and JARVIS monitoring should the Avengers be needed. It isn't a high pressure job, needless to say. Compared to her work days at Shield, it's like a vacation day. Usually. Every once in a while something happens, but that can happy any day and not just those she is on watch.

For the moment, she's in the game room, sprawled in an oversized chair, eyes on one of the tv screens that is not showing news or sports. Instead the Russian Ballet Company is being aired, a performance from earlier in the year that was filmed for tonight's release on channel.

Thor has posed:
And in walks the Thunder God. He notices Nat, and the dancing going on. "...The dancing of Midgard is so much different." And then there's the outfits. The Russian ballet is so very different.

What he does know, though, is dancing is frequently meant to tell a story, even if it's also sometimes done just for enjoyment. "Is there a story they wish to tell, or is there some other purpose?"

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Glancing up at his arrival, Nat gives a nod of greeting. "There's a story they are telling. This one is about a princess who falls in love with a commoner but their love is forbidden." She glances back over at him.

"Not all Midgard dances tell stories but this style is called ballet. Generally, there is a tale behind the performances."

Thor has posed:
"Why would that be forbidden? Many a noble soul has come from parents who were not of noble blood, and yet many a arrogant tyrant was born of royal blood. Only by the character of one's soul can one by judged." Of course, Midgard has a few extra ways to judge people, but Thor has a simpler way.

"So there are types of dances that do not? What types of dancing are those? I demonstrated some of mine a couple months ago." At Carol's party.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Lots don't. Go to Club Mjolnir. The dancing that the club goers do is not telling a story. Unless it is saying how drunk they are, then perhaps it might be considered one," Natasha adds with a soft laugh. "There are entirely too many types of dances for me to go into. Contemporary dance is telling a story. Jazz sometimes, others it is just movement for enjoyment. Ballroom isn't so much telling a tale as following a set series of steps in a specific manner."

Thor has posed:
"Ah, yes, the Club. That's where I demonstrated how things are done on Asgard. It seemed an appropriate place for our style of doing things. I'm told our style greatly resembles fighting, and so perhaps it is, for it is typically telling the stories of great battles."

"Movement for enjoyment? Enjoyment of what?" What do Midgardians enjoy? "I suppose there's excercise to be had."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
That gets another laugh from Natasha and she shakes her head. "I can't explain it. Dancing is something like sense of taste in a way. Sometimes you like the flavor of something. Sometimes you don't. Some people like to move to the rythym of music to help express themselves. Some people don't dance at all and don't understand it. It's not something that can really be taught if you don't have the drive and passion for it already inside."

Thor has posed:
Hmmmm. "Well, dancing does tell stories where I come from. If you cannot put it into words what it means, perhaps you can show what you cannot tell." Thor knows she has more talents than he'll ever know about, so perhaps he might learn something on this day. The soul of Midgard can be hard to grasp, but sometimes a friend can interpret it well.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I used to dance. Ballet at that. It was a very long time ago," Natasha says, telling him one of those things he probably did not know about her. "It was a cover, of course. But I was good at it. It's amazing for keeping in shape. Bucky and I have started getting together from time to time to dance like we did back in the day."

Thor has posed:
Bucky! That leads to an entirely different topic. "Ah, yes. Did he ever get it sorted out with my brother? I'd hate to think he and or Steve is still under the influence of such."

But back on the original topic. "You can do what they're doing on TV? Show me." Because that looked very intricate, but watching through those magic boxes that are everywhere on Midgard just doesn't give him the same feeling seeing things in person does.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
That gets another laugh and a negative shake of the head. "Sometime. But not now," Natasha said as she looked back to the prima ballerina and her lead taking the stage for one of the more intricate duets.

She looks back to Thor. "No idea. Hopefully they did. I haven't seen anyone. Been busy with Shield a lot lately. Not really spent much time here at the mansion. What about you? How is it having Asgard back?"

Thor has posed:
Unfortunate. He thought he was going to get a live performance. "Asgard is well! Things are rapidly returning to normal. Well. A new normal. Being in charge myself is not the same as having my father in charge. Now the responsibility rests on me, and I will never again be free of it. My father always used to tell me I'd regret wanting the throne. Now I understand why he said so."

"That said, there is also news from New Genesis. Superman was kidnapped, and experiments went wrong, which led to something terrible. Superman was possessed, before his fall, by Yuga Khan. We think, we're not completely sure. He is the father of Darkseid, and even worse, if that's possible. Long ago, in the history of Asgard, he once did battle with Bor and Odin both, in my grandfather's time. They fended him off, but the battle was heavy with casualties, and Valhalla was filled."

"The people of New Genesis have retreated from Midgard, as they fear another move by Darkseid, possibly to oppose his father, but they expect him to move in force. Also, they wish neutrality in this matter, so they will not be making any moves."

"It is important to make sure my allies know of this, but I'd hoped for a more relaxing moment." Because he understands he just caused tension.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
Most of those names mean nothing to Natasha. She listens closely, picking up on the information about Superman. Made sense. She couldn't imagine him ever acting that way if he was himself. Possessed? Now she gets it.

One name other than Superman she knew. Darkseid. He had invaded a couple of years back and Earth had been hard put to send him packing. She frowned a bit at the idea that his dad, who was worse than him, was the one possessing Superman. And out there doing whatever it was doing now. "So this Yuga Khan still on Earth? And they think Darkseid might show up to fight him? Or will he go back to Apokolips and try to take over the show?"

Thor has posed:
"Yuga Khan's body was never on earth. Thankfully, it is still trapped at the Source...for now. I imagine the idea behind possessing Superman was to fly the powerful Kryptonian out to free him. Thankfully that did not happen due to the efforts of Batman. Still, Yuga Khan is Darkseid's father...and just as Odin was stronger than I, so too was Yuga Khan stronger than Darkseid. It took Bor and Odin both to fight him off in the past, as I'd said."

"If Darkseid means to confront his father, he will certainly reclaim Apokolips first. It is easier to wage a war with a base. If Yuga were freed from the Source, than I imagine he'd kick his son out of power." So there's that.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Great." Her tone says it is anything but.

Natasha brushes her hair back from her face absently then peeks at the tv screen. Now the performance is overshadowed with visions of fighting the armies of Apokolips two years ago.

"Of course I have to be on watch when I could really use a glass of vodka right about now."

Thor has posed:
Upon watching her face fall, he can only conclude, "...I picked a poor time to relay such news. Though I am not sure there is ever an excellent time to relay such news." Perhaps the only truly good news he could've given is that it has already been dealt with. But that is not the news he has.

"...is it permissable to have your drink if I stay with you?" Maybe he can let her off the hook, sort of.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Nah. I get off duty in about three hours. I'll get one then. For now, try to focus on the good instead of the bad. I'll have to be sure Shield is aware that we might have a round two."

Natasha shrugs slightly. "Honestly, after we beat Darkseid last time, we fully expected him to show back up again eventually. Just didn't know it would be so soon and because of Daddy issues."

Thor has posed:
"He was never going to be gone for good. Sent into deep space...it would only be a matter of time before he found a way back to his power base. And really, I thought we got a longer break than expected. A solid two years of him being away from Apokolips is a blessing indeed. He probably wasn't going to launch a second attack right away when he got back, but now he's being pressured by someone stronger than he is."

"There is much that is good to think about, it is true. I am told there is a great feast on Midgard coming in a couple days, when all of Midgard celebrates gratitude. We do, indeed, have so much to be thankful for. Like having many good friends, even under one roof." This roof.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Thanksgiving, yes," Natasha verifies. "It's an American tradition, although other countries have adopted it as well. To celebrate and give thanks for everything they have."

Natasha is leaving the heavy discussion behind for now. It'll get reported to Shield in short order. Not right now. "Lots of food and gathering to eat together. I'm not sure if the team has something planned or not. I'd have to ask Tony." Which means she has made no plans to be part of a celebration, if they already had it planned.

Thor has posed:
"We have feasts every night on Asgard, but...a feast of gratitude...I suppose celebrating a victory is being grateful for that victory, but it is not gratefulness in general. I shall have to name a feast of gratitude, then, that we may join with Midgard in being thankful for things. Thanksgiving, you say?"

"I have decided, then. I must see how a proper Midgardian feast is done, so I may take it back with me." Hmmm. "Hopefully Tony will indeed do something of that nature."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Though maybe I'm giving Tony too much credit. Probably Pepper would be the one to plan something for the team. And give Tony credit. He's busy ...being him." Natasha can't help but grin at that because it is very true. Tony is usually going a hundred different directions at once. It's part and parcel with that big brain of his. And a part of his charm.

"If there isn't something planned, I'm sure we could get you an invite to the Shield dinner at the Triskelion."

Thor has posed:
"There's going to be a feast at SHIELD? I had no idea an organization of the goverment would do such a thing. ...I mean, I do it for my people, but it didn't seem such things were frequently done on Midgard." Hmmmm.

"Well, we must also consult with Tony, as there's no way of knowing what he's tinkering with."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"I'll send him a message. Find out if there is something planned. And yes, most businesses will allow their people to have holiday stuff. Shield is no different. It'll be a potluck." Natasha realizes he might not know what that means. "Where people who attend bring some sort of food to add to the table for everyone to eat."

Thor has posed:
Thor smiles at that. Bringing things? Sounds like a great idea! "Very well! If such a lucky pot is to be made, I shall bring the finest cuisine of Asgard, and there shall be mead, and all shall rejoice and make merry!" Or something like that. Asgardian mead does tend to knock mortals out though. There shall be chaos through the triskellion, no doubt.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"No!" Natasha said that a bit too fast and vehemently. She cleared her throat and tried again. "I remember Asgardian mead. It even messed with my system and I'm a few notches above a normal human. Maybe leave the mead at home. But some American beer instead. If you want to splurge, make it German. Not sure that they should go beyond that."

Thor has posed:
"Very well. I suppose if enough of those who will be there are just human, than Asgardian mead is not necessary. It is only necessary, really, for those whose constitutions are beyond mortal meads, that they could drink barrels and remain untouched." Hmmm. "Perhaps I should sneak at least one flask in. If Steve shows up, for example, the mortal meads will be of little use to him. Likewise for Banner." But, German beer she said, "Very well! I shall bring this beer of Germany, since you have recommended it. I can't really tell the difference between the meads of Midgard, but I shall take your word for it."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"We do have a few with higher constitutions but probably better to stick with the light stuff," Natasha confirms. German beer is probably enough to drop a few of them on their butts still. But it is a party and they were allowing alcohol, for those who were not on duty of course.

Thor has posed:
Oh, fine. Thor was gonna sneak in some good stuff just because it's more fun that way, but..."...Very well." Leaving the Asgardian mead behind almost feels like the weight of responsibility catching up to him again. Tis a tragic weight, that. "It's in times like this where I feel the weight of being king far more than the freedom of being crown prince." He might've snuck it in anyway, once. Now...he no longer can.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Steve can come back here with you after for mead. Or, better yet, go for a visit to Asgard. Get him some from the barrel, so to speak," Natasha suggests. The ballet over, she reaches for a remote and flips the channel back to the news.

Thor has posed:
"...Will you want any? As you said, it messes with your system, but that's rather the point, isn't it? With all your friends here, it is as safe as you are ever likely to be on Midgard." It's never completely safe, but this is one of the most well guarded places on earth populated by superheroes to boot.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Once back here? Sure," Natasha agrees with a grin as she climbs to her feet out of the chair. "But only a little bit. I am not doing one of those Asgardian sized tankards again." When she had gone to visit New Asgard, here in Norway, she had been able to partake. And gotten drunk. Which was not something she liked to do. She normally had the constitution of an elephant. Not with Asgardian mead.

Thor has posed:
"The important thing about the Asgardian tankard...you got to, for the first time in I care not to guess...let your guard all the way down. And you were taken care of among my people. Perhaps I should invite everyone up to the restored Asgard. Even if someone does fall over up there, my realm is a different place, and there shall be no unfortunate consequences, save perhaps your head in the morning." Hmmmm. "But that would include bringing Tony, and sometimes, that worries me." Not that Tony needs the Asgardian stuff. Mortal meads work just fine for him.

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Nothing alcoholic for Tony. I understand he needs to cut back." Where she heard this is anyone's guess. Natasha has her ways though, even when she doesn't get a chance to be social with her teammates much. "So he can have an invite but just regular stuff for him. I'm sure everyone would love to see your restored home."

Thor has posed:
"Very well. Yes, that seems best. I do not wish to contribute to a problem. And sometimes, being a friend involves nudging people away from that which they handle poorly." Now, for his next trick. "...I don't suppose you'd have a suggestion on when I could get at least a majority of the team together? You're busy with SHIELD, you aren't the only one, Tony's tinkering, Steve has his duties...Hmmm."

Black Widow (Romanoff) has posed:
"Not really. Probably best to send out a message to everyone and try to coordinate if you want us all together. Or as many as can be at a time," Natasha says as she picks up her bottle of water, which is empty, and walks toward the doorway. "Going to get another bottle of water. You want something?"

Thor has posed:
"Hmmm. I shall get to doing that, because I would like to have all my friends gathered around one table. The legend of what the Avengers of Midgard have done, fighting alongside their king, have grown in Asgard, and I should think you'd end up local celebrities, as many will ask you for stories of battles you've fought and won." Because that's the stories they love to hear up there.

"Mmm? Oh, yes, water is fine. It's very clean here. I can taste the difference." Tony spends cash having only the best around.
