Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Triage, Cannonball, Samuel Morgan

Nightingale has posed:
When Sam answers the knock on his door with the call to come on in, he is met with three teammates--Shannon, Bean, and Chris. Certainly at least, Shannon does not look one bit happy, and going by her attire, the sweat on her brow, and some of the bruises on her knuckles, has probably been venting her upset in the healthiest way she knows how at the moment--the gym. "Big brother," she states flatly. "We have got to have a serious talk and try to clear something up. I'm just having a real hard time finding a delicate way to put this, because it involves a teammate."

Triage has posed:
Chris follows Shannon into the room, slipping his phone into a pocket of his hoodie. He nods. "Actually, it involves several students, one of whom is the team-mate," he adds. Then he waves his hand. "Don't worry. No one has been hurt but there might have been some misunderstandings."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit to this and he will motion you all to have a place to sit sliding his deck chair out to go with the two other chairs. He leans against the desk, and says "Ok, well start at the begining and tell me what is going on." He says to the group, crossing his arms and waiting.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
The issue must be urgent considering how Bean is dressed when he comes in. Still in his PT outfit, which in this case is a tight tanktop and a pair or shorts, he hasn't taken the time to quickly run over to his room to get changed into something more presentable. In casuals for a meeting with Cannonball? Utterly unheard of. As usual, rather than sitting down he prefers to stand, and Bear quite solemnly sits himself down next to him, at keen attention. "I'll let Shannon do the explaining, but I will back up her story with first hand evidence from Nathaniel."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and flops down in one of the two armchairs, running her fingers through her hair while she gathers her thoughts. "Okay, I'm going to be entirely fair in this, and admit my own part in it. About a week or so ago, Andrea, Nathaniel, Gwendolyn, Brad, and I were all in the music room, and Andrea mentioned that her status on the team was in question. I don't know if the team's meant to be a secret or not but I'd always treated it as such up till that point. I was caught off-guard and asked her point blank what was going on--with the other three in earshot. They found out about the team and seemed to be content with things as they stood, so I thought that was the end of it."

She takes a deep breath, and pinches the bridge of her nose, her wings ruffling with agitation. "Gwendolyn came to me earlier today and seemed a bit upset. She told me that Andrea had called the three of them together and told them more about the team. I wasn't present at the discussion, but was given the impression from Gwendolyn that now Brad thinks he's 'broken' and needs to be 'fixed', Nathaniel wasn't too pleased at the handling of the situation, and Gwendolyn herself is harboring doubts about her own potential. I explained to her about the day you asked me, and that you asked because you saw heart and potential that I don't always see in myself. That seemed to help her, but still leaves the other two." She holds up her hand briefly. "I also didn't lie to her that the team can and does deal with serious issues as needed, but made clear we don't go looking for trouble."

Triage has posed:
Chris nods. "As you know, some students come here from bad situations," he recalls while settling into another of the chairs. "They don't need the additional burden of thinking that students are in some kind of hierarchy beside the normal ones that any school has. These three seem particularly vulnerable. Now that they've heard that some of us help the community in ... other ways, they might feel inadequate even before they've given themselves a chance to find their places."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Well, I will have a chat with them to let them know that actually this means Andrea believes they have potential to be of helpful, and that it is not just a go out and fight things. I will talk to Andrea about how and when she should talk to new students about the team. I am sure she ment well, but we will have to chat a bit about it.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Bean listens quietly, hands behind his back, but adds his own bit once Sam has heard from Shannon and Chris. "Actually, Mister Guthrie, I don't believe that to be entirely accurate. Nathan came to my room last night, concerned. He wanted to know if I was some kind of, and I quote, secret superhero. After talking to him, it turns out he understood that the New Mutants are in fact a team that goes out to hunt Sentinels and the Friends of Humanity as their main task, and ends up getting frequently injured because of it. I told him, of course, the same as Shannon told Gwendolyn... that the New Mutants are all about team work, self confidence, and assisting other students. Despite that he has said he doesn't want to join, because he'll never be able to throw a proper punch, and those were his exact words."

"I didn't hear about the whole being broken, getting fixed or not being powerful enough yet thing until just now. Needless to say, I consider that to be highly inappropriate, especially when said to very vulnerable students, as Chris has said."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon holds up her hand again, with an apologetic look to Bean. "I'm awful sorry to interrupt there, Bean, but I don't know if those words were actually spoken by Andrea to them. I do know that they were left with that feeling from the talk after, from what Gwendolyn spoke to me. Let's be fair to Andrea here. But... I definitely agree with you, the whole situation could have been handled better than it was."

She frowns deeply at Nathaniel's assessment of himself, and sighs. "Yeah... about that, Bean. Would it do any good if I talked to him about that, and the whole getting hurt thing? Maybe there's a mix-up there."

Turning back to Sam, she tries to smile somewhat. "Thank you. The sooner this is cleared up the better. Though moving forward, is the team formally a secret like the lower levels of the mansion, or not quite so much of a secret? I'd rather not foul up for my own part again."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to them, and says "What no, we don't go searching for either of those, in fact, it is specific the students aint supposed to be out trying to find trouble." he looks specifically at Bean at this one. I will need to talk to all of them, and see if I can reassure them, and let them know that it aint the case. There have been some incidents with each of those groups, but they were those having to deal with what has came our way than seeking trouble." He hmmms a bit and looks to see where the three should be in school currently.

Triage has posed:
Chris nods to Shannon at her final words, and then looks to Sam. "I learned about the team by accident, when one of them had an injury. That shouldn't be typical. Soon, I learned that that the New Mutants are more like a defensive team protecting the school. When students come here, they need to know where they stand, and if they're struggling with feelings of inadequacy along with their ... gifts, we shouldn't allow someone to compound that, whether intentionally or by accident." He looks to Bean and adds, "I think that you were right to talk to Nathaniel about things, to reassure him. He might not be able to throw a punch, but there are other ways to help beside combat, and other ways to fight beside punching."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"It's probably best if he talked to you, yes." Bean agrees with Shannon, and then nods to Chris. "I agree. And I'll be talking to Brad soon about the same issue, I'm not sure if anyone has gotten to him yet. Poor guy has enough trouble as it is."

He perfectly understands Sam's vexation. "Mister Guthrie, I will tell anyone who asks me what the New Mutants really are, as long as they are friendly to the school. But this has been mishandled, and has brought the team into disrepute." He lets that phrase hang. It only has one implication in most organisations.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the group, and says "You should have been told about the team while you were briefed to go downstairs and such, and the New Mutants job is not to defend the school. They are trained in case of incident, but the new mutants are not supposed to be out seeking trouble. Students here know about the X-men and New Mutants, but outside this school none unless they have been cleared are supposed to know. For students who are asked to join the New mutants it is supposed to be for those have an interest in either becoming heroes in the future, or have abilities that need extra training. I don't go into the New Mutant stuff with the students till they have been here a while, as most need a bit of time to grow used to the school before thinking about the team, and if they wish to be on it or wish to avoid it.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods slowly. "I didn't find out about the New Mutants till the day of that protest, when you found me crying by the lake. But that was okay. So I assumed that it was kept quiet, and was mostly a need-to-know thing. And I know we don't go out seeking trouble. Or at least, we're not /supposed/ to..." Is that a mildly playful smile offered in Bean's general direction? Perhaps a light cough? No, perhaps it was just a trick played upon the senses. "But that was when you asked me, because I knew I wanted to be out there. You saw the potential." She sighs softly, crossing her arms and shaking her head. "Speaking for myself, I want those three to be able to see the same potential in themselves that you saw in me. As for the whole team being in disrepute..." She frowns slightly at that. "Definitely, let's get things cleared up here, with Andrea, Gwen, Brad, and Nathaniel. I seriously doubt we're in bad odor just yet, just so long as this is cleared up and nipped in the bud /now/."

Triage has posed:
Chris nods to Samuel and then Shannon. "I hope that they find their bearings," he agrees. "Until they do, they won't know what they want to do or how they might serve, and that's important to all of us." He shakes his head. "We have enough trouble with people out there thinking that all mutants want to rule the world. We don't need misunderstandings among our own kind." He sighs. "Now that you know, Mr. Guthrie, I'm sure that you'll be able to set things on the right course." He stands. "We probably should go now."

Samuel Morgan has posed:
The glances. The looks. The discreet cough... yes, Bean is very much aware of what he's done, and so he lets it all go. After all, it was a fair comment. But those days are most assuredly behind him. Most assuredly. He certainly hasn't taken any independent action in the past few weeks, as far as anyone knows. Or can prove. Isn't that the same thing? "You have my concerns, Mister Guthrie, I'll leave them in your capable hands. And if there is anything else you need to talk to me about, you know where I live."
