Do You Hear What I Hear
Date of Scene: 04 December 2019
Location: Abandoned Warehouse, Lower East Side
Synopsis: Sounds of high tech weapons fire draw Daredevil and Vi to a weapons sale. They throw a wrench in the works.
Cast of Characters: Vi, Daredevil

Vi has posed:
It's late at night, the witching hour having just arrived in New York not too long before. The city's normal sounds have quieted as people head home, getting to bed to prepare for work the next day. It's always more peaceful at night in the city, at least for those with enhanced senses. Of course, what is heard at such times can be less than peaceful.

Vi has waited for night to take advantage of the relative quiet. She's already been practicing this at Xavier's School, where it's much quieter. But she knows from the time she followed another student to the city that if she's going to use her enhanced senses, she needs to be able to focus out the multitude of sounds.

And so Vi dresses. She moves quietly through the halls of X-Factor Investigations, trying to avoid any copies of Jamie Madrox that might be awake. She makes it up to the roof, bundled up against the cold, and moves over to dust off a light falling of snow and take a seat.

The sense of warmth in her stomach that she recognizes as the tin she swallowed is embraced. Her senses go stronger, and stronger. Vi closes her eyes to help her focus on her hearing, though soon she can feel each threat in her garments, can hear the rats in the alleys, smell the pizza place upwind a block.

Vi begins to burn some pewter as well, strengthening her body to avoid blinding or defeaning herself is she over does it. Prepared, she starts to flare her tin, burning it faster and faster, pushing her sensorium to remarkable levels, focused on her hearing.

Daredevil has posed:
Dardevil hasn't been taking to the streets as much lately as he used to, his alter ego and the cases he's working taking up most of his time. Tonight though, tonight was different, he was wearing the suit and he was free.

Leaving the confines of Hell's Kitchen, Daredevil finds himself in Brooklyn near the waterfront when he hears it. A distant explosion... coupled with... he wasn't sure, climbing a water tower, he cocks his head to the side once he's reached the top.

He still didn't know what that second sound was, but when another explosion sounds, he knows exactly where it came from and so, lashing out with his baton, he begins to swing towards the location.

Vi has posed:
The sound of the explosion causes Vi's eyes to pop open. Thankfully there aren't any bright lights near her, for even the murky dark looks to her like brightest day with her tin flares so strong. Another sound. A... kerzap? She's never heard the like. Vi's tin flares to its max and she focuses in, in time to hear another explosion.

The girl lets her tin fade away most of it having been consumed by now. She pulls out a vial of just that metal, shavings of it in water to make it easier to swallow. Popping the top and swallowing it to replenish her store of it in her digestive track, Vi considers what to do.

She could wake Jamie. But he might not let her go investigate. Instead Vi turns towards the direction she heard the sound.

She burns a third metal, this one letting her sense all of the metal that is around her. The building has plenty, the water heater sturdy enough for her purposes. Vi checks her pouch on her belt, and her store of extra vials. And then pushes on the water heater with a tremendous force. It outweighing her, the push flings herself into the air three hundred feet, moving in an arc towards the distant waterfront. Soon she's pulling on distant beams in tall buildings, effectively swinging herself forward as she closes in on the area. Burning her tin more gently, she hears another sound, this one a dull thump followed by a hissing as if gas were rushing out of something.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil swings silently through the night, running here and there when he has to, after all he doesn't have Spidey's strength and stamina, but he swings his way to that warehouse, hearing those inside as clearly as he would if they were standing next to them.

"These things are pretty good," one of them asks. Matt could smell cigarettes on him even from the roof.

"No doubt, you want to take a few more shots with the thing, or should we talk money?" oof, this one practically bathed in cologne... Matt tilts his head, and yep had a bit of a heart murmur.

"A couple more," Cigarettes says, as he fires another shot, the explosion echoing below wiping out Matt's sense of how many men were down there for a few moments, but he knew it was more than two.

He moves to the edge of the building, waiting for his senses to clear before he makes a move.

Vi has posed:
Vi's passage has her feeling the air whistling through her hair, sending it streaming behind her as she pushes or pulls as needed, flying through the air and zeroing in on the warehouse. The sound of her passage through the air is probably noticeable to Daredevil. The sound lessens as Vi gets near and she launches herself on a final, ballistic arc, counting on gravity to bring her the rest of the way in.

A few pushes against metal beams in the warehouse's roof slow her until Vi is able to drop gently onto the roof. She hasn't noticed Daredevil yet, listening, but not looking around her very much just yet. First she has to do something about her boots. With her tin burning, she's aware of just how much noise her footfalls make. She slips them off, and her winter jacket, and uses her pewter to allow her to endure the cold without suffering frostbite anytime soon.

She turns her head, listening in again to see what is going on below. The girl of nineteen is a slight thing. No super hero build, no Olympic athlete look to her. Just a girl, a few inches above five feet tall. And now that she's removed her jacket, the sweatshirt with the SHIELD logo, her favorite article of clothing, is visible. To those who can see it.

Daredevil has posed:
While the explosions had rendered Daredevil's hearing inside the warehouse useless, he could hear perfectly fine on the outside so Vi's arrival is noticed, and prepared for as he slips into the shadows to examine her with her senses. He wasn't sure what he was expecting to find, but Vi wasn't it.

He steps from the shadows then, knowing the light he can sense a ten meters to his left would be throwing enough light so she could see him. "Whoever you are, you probably want to get out of here, it isn't safe," warns the devil horned figured with the red in the reflective light over top of his eyes.

Vi has posed:
Vi whirls as she hears Daredevil's footsteps with her enhanced hearing. Though he's quiet enough the lifelong street thief is impressed. Without her tin he'd have walked up right behind her if he'd chose. The girl hesitates, saying softly, "I heard explosions, and thought people might need help," she says.

The logo on her sweatshirt is something she's very conscious of at the moment. Helping people. It's something she's decided she wants to do. "Are you... do you know what's going on?" she asks, not leaving yet. Within the warehouse there's another thumb, the sound of something impacting a hard surface, then a hissing. A man laughs. "Dissolving right through the metal. That stuff is nasty!" It's a third voice to add to the list.

Daredevil has posed:
When Vi whirls Daredevil raises a hand to assure her he hadn't come to harm her. His two batons are safely stowed in the loops on his hip, though he carries himself like some of the teachers at Xaviers, the ones that can handle themselves in a fight.

"Not those kinds of explosions," Daredevil says as he tilts his head to listen to the voices below. "It sounds like an arms sale, and by the sound of it these aren't Saturday Night specials."

Just then the metal under Vi's feet begins to melt.

"Shit!" comes a voice from below.

Another voice shouts, "Hey watch where you point that thing idiot."

For his part Matt is rushing towards Vi before she falls into the warehouse below.

Vi has posed:
Vi's steel and iron are still burning, just lightly enough she can sense all of the metal around her in a large radius. Which means when the metal holding up the warehouse roof starts to go, she senses something changing. She doesn't know it's that, but the center of gravity changes and some of the metal just plain disappears from her senses.

Vi gasps as a whole opens up in the roof. She doesn't fall though, instead she sort of bounces into the air like someone'd given her a tiny toss, just enough to lift her a foot or two. About then Daredevil reaches her and can carry her away from the opening!

Daredevil has posed:
And carry her he does, adjusting in mid-flight as she rises he catches her at her middle and gets her to the far side of the hole. "See what I mean about the danger?" he asks smiling wrly. "You should probably-"

"Hey you see something jump across the hole?" one of the voices say.

"Yeah, I did."

"Me too."

"Damn it, Matt curses. "We've going to have company very soon, are you able to get out of here?" His senses are already scanning the roof for places to make their escape.

Vi has posed:
Vi doesn't struggle or do anything to make Daredevil's plucking her out of the air any more difficult. She just lets him grab her and get her to part of the roof that isn't collapsing. She's light, maybe 90 pounds without her coat and boots on. Speaking of, her boots are near to the hole and one of them falls in, dropping to the warehouse floor, the item quite obvious in what it is.

The coat flies off the roof and flies zipper first towards Vi until she catches it. "I can get out of here, yes," she says. Her concern for the masked figure is heard in her voice though, especially as she hears what the discovery of the boot is doing down in the warehouse. "Someone's up there!" someone says. "Shit, did that dissolve someone's leg and leave their boot!?"

Daredevil has posed:
Shit, he didn't notice the boot falling. The thing lands sole side down and echoes inside the warehouse. He can hear five men moving towards the stairs their breathing giving them away.

"Probably good to get going then," he warns Vi. "There's going to be a fight and if they've got stuff that does that," he nods at the hole in the roof. "It's going to get messy. I'll cover your escape."

He begins moving towards the stairs psyching himself up for the fight.

Vi has posed:
The girl nods her head and turns to go. She's just about to push off some of the metal in the roof when one of the men below fires at the roof, just blindingly picking another spot. But luck is with him. Or maybe it's just against Vi. The hole opens up right beneath her.

The girl falls into the two-story tall warehouse as Daredevil is heading for the stairs. She frantically pulls on other metal still in the roof top, arresting her fall and then strengthening her legs with pewter to land barefoot on the warehouse floor, holding one boot.

She looks over at the men and says, "Um. Hi. Really, no need to shoot any more," she says. Though one of the men just aims the futuristic gun towards her.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil turns when he hears the floor beginning to give way, but he's too late, the futuristic goo works fast and by the time he's turned Vi's already falling. He sprints towards the hole and then in a move that lives up to his name dives right in.

He scopes out the place in freefall, getting a sense of where things are and in doing so spots the man with the weapon pointed at Vi. He snaps the line out of his baton to slow his decent and angle himself towards the man. Even slowed, Daredevil hits with crushing force sending the man and the weapon flying.

Snapping the line back into his baton, another man emerges between some crates taking aim at Matt.

Vi has posed:
Vi froze at seeing the gun pointed her way, thankfully Daredevil takes the man out before he can fire. She recovers after that though, seeing the other man step out from behind a crate. He points a rifle-looking device at the masked man, a laser sight on the top coming on and painting a little dot on Daredevil's back.

"Look out!" Vi calls. She senses the metal in the large crate on the other side of the aiming man. The create must way at least 800 pounds. Vi strengthens her body with more pewter to avoid ripping herself in half, pulling on beams on the side of the warehouse, and on the crate. The crate is the lightest, and flies into the man, slapping him aside and sending him sliding across the floor before the crate slides to a stop on the concrete floor.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil is already flipping when Vi throws the crate into the guy, he goes flying his weapon clacking on the ground.

"Thanks," Daredevil says landing moving towards the weapon. "Guys upstairs will be at the hole soon, we should find some cover. Also," he gestures at an open crate full of the guns, "You know anything about tech? I shoot those," he picks up the gun. "With this, do you think they'll explode?"

Vi has posed:
Vi looks at the crate and says, "I don't know much about guns except to stay away from them," she says. "The one that dissolved the ceiling would probably eat through it though?" she suggests.

There's a small panel truck parked in the warehouse, and also a sedan. The back of the panel truck is open, and apparently one of the men had ducked back inside. Digging into his inventory? He appears back in the doorway, pointing something the size of a bazooka at Vi.

Thankfully it doesn't seem to be a bazooka, but there's a loud WHOOMP! and a thick object shoots out towards Vi. It spreads in the air, a net that hits the girl and envelops her. It isn't just rope, but some kind of sticky fiber that clings to her wherever it touches her, making it even tougher for her to get free.

The man frantically reloads, looking for Daredevil for his next target.

Daredevil has posed:
The impulse is there, turn and fire the gun he just picked up at the man before he reloads. However at the last second, Daredevil adjusts his grip and targets the big bazooka gun instead, the man holding it curses and drops it to the ground while it turns into a puddle of melted metal slag.

"Handy," Daredevil says of the gun, before hurling it at the man knocking him out.

Then he moves over to Vi. "Hang on, I'll get you out," he says as he pulls at the sticky net, finding his gloves adhere to the material. "Damn, stickier than I thought." He pulls his hand free of his glove, just as the men upstairs reach one of the holes in the ceiling calling "They're down there!" and open fire, Daredevil leaping out of the way and trying to drag Vi with him.

Vi has posed:
Vi feels the urge to panic as she's snared tight. Any movement just makes it tighter, any slack that touches her sticking to her further. She draws a deep breath, trying to stay calm, watching as Daredevil takes out the man with the net launcher.

"Thank you," she says. "I might be able to overpower it- Watch out!" she says, seeing the men at the roof. Her mind races for something she can do to help, but there's no metal on a line between her and the men that she can use for a projectile, and she can't move her arm to put one of the washers in her pouch on a line.

So she just hold still while Daredevil drags her across the concrete and into cover. Chips fly up from the floor as some sort of more traditional projectile hits the ground just short of her, Vi pulling her feet up towards her body to help get them behind the crates.

She flares her pewter and starts ribbing the net, but it's going to be slow going. "I think I can get out, just will take a bit," she tells him.

Daredevil has posed:
Crouching over Vi once they reach cover Daredevil nods, using his senses to make sure Vi was out of the line of fire. "Alright, get yourself free, I think I am going to borrow our friend's idea," he says moving to the box where the man had pulled the net bazooka, finding one, he loads it quickly and puts it to his shoulder aiming at the hole.

The men up top turn their weapons Matt's way before he fires, the net flying past the bullets to entangle a pair of the gunmen. As for the bullets? Two hit Daredevil the armour takes it but it's enough to send him back on his ass and make his chest throb with pain.

Vi has posed:
Vi tears one strand after another of the net. She works on getting an arm free first, knowing that the metals she's ingested that fuel her power will run out eventually and she needs an arm free to be able to refresh them when that happens. She's burning through her pewter at a fast rate, the net's high-tech material taking nearly a ton of force before it breaks.

The men above swears as they caught in the same situation as Vi, but lack the strength to get free. They flop on the roof. "Hey, stop squirming, going to knocks us in the hole!" one of them calls to the other.

"Are you ok? Did you get hit?" Vi asks as another tendril of the web-like netting gives way. she grabs hold of part of it and then begins to force her arm and shoulder out of the three foot long rip she's managed to make.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil gets back up to his feet, going quiet a moment while he let's his body tell him how bad the hits were. "Definitely cracked a rib," he says. "Had worse," he says. "How's it coming on that net?"

He could hear the remaining gunmen up top making their way down to try and trap the two heroes in the warehouse.

"We're going to have a bit more company in a second."

Vi has posed:
Vi continues ripping, expanding the hole further down her body. She forces a leg through the opening, and then the other. The net still covers one arm, and is sticking to her all over her back, but at least she's mobile again. "Can walk," She says, bunching up the netting to let it stick on her back rather than falling back down and attaching to the back of her legs again.

"Want me to throw you up there?" she asks, peeking around a crate and looking at the walkway down. "I can fling your baton up there if you can keep hold of it," she offers.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil turns his head at Vi when she makes that offer. "Do it," he says coming over to her and offering her the baton. If nothing else it would be a memorable way to go out.

As they talk the men hurry down the walkway.

"And if you get free, try to destroy those weapons, use the melter gun if you have to."

Vi has posed:
Vi tells Daredevil, "You hang onto it. Really tight. Both hands." She moves over then, slow with the net making it difficult on her, and positions herself on the other side of Daredevil. She's clearly leaning herself up compared to him and the walkway, which will give the impression she can just push in a straight line.

"Ok, ready?" she asks. If he is, she makes sure the path will have Daredevil clear the crate. She burns her steel, flaring it hard and pushes with two tons of force of on the baton, sending it, and Daredevil if he hangs on like it were the rung on a waterski tow rope, flying up towards the walkeway a story and a half up in the air, where the men are hurrying down.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil does what he's told gripping the baton with both hands before he's flung by Vi up a story and a half towards the men. True to his name, Daredevil has grin on his face as he flies. /This/ was definitely memorable.

Then it was time to fight, he catches the railing of the walkway and he flips over it hitting two of the men with a foot each, sending them staggering back, he follows up with quick punches, first high, then low, knocking them to the walkway.

From there it's like poetry in motion as Daredevil moves through the gunmen, ducking here, disarming there, a punch to the throat, a kick to the knee, a throw into the railing, and so it goes until the men are all laid out.

Meanwhile down below the man who'd hit Vi with the net gun wakes and seeing Vi, reaches for the melter gun, picking it up as he stands and taking aim.

"Watch out!" Daredevil calls sensing the man from up on the walkway.

Vi has posed:
Vi used the last of her steel to throw Daredevil up to the men above. She watches him, mouth gaping at how it's like the man moves in a dance to a song that only he can hear. But the weapons runners definitely can feel the beat that results.

She continues tearing at the net, managing to free her other arm, just having to get it off of her back and, worst of all, her hair. She may have to cut her hair to avoid pulling it out. Stupid net.

Daredevil's cry causes Vi to whirl. Her tin burns stronger to help her senses focus in on the man standing in the back of the panel truck and aiming the melting gun her way. She's out of steel so can't push any metal away. Instead she raises both hands, and the entire truck suddenly lurches four feet. It's like the floor is pulled out from under the man's feet and he falls over on his back, the gun going off and melting the roof of the truck.

Vi stumbles over towards him, the net still over her head but her arms and legs free. She pulls a little vial from her belt and quaffs the contents, then pulls the man out of the truck by his zippers, his clothing stretching as he falls from the truck back to the floor, bouncing his head off it and blacking out.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil swings down from the walkway but by the time he's by Vi's side she's already dealt with the gunman. "Nice move," he tells her with a nod.

He looks like his wounds and the evening's fight is catching up with him though. " Here," he says reaching for the net. "We should get this off of you and get out of here," he tells her.

Vi has posed:
Vi moves towards Daredevil to get his help. Getting her hair out of it is going to be a pain, but they manage it. "These men are not supposed to be doing this, are they? I could call the police. Or, someone from SHIELD. Or... would we get in trouble for being here?" she asks. Daredevil won't know it, but she has no real clue how the laws work.

She looks at the weapons and frowns. Her dislike for such things only seems to keep growing during her experiences in New York.

Daredevil has posed:
Daredevil helps pull the cables away as best that he can.

"Call the police, they'll get here faster," he nods in the direction of the weapons. "But if you know someone from SHIELD they might be a good second call they'll want to know about the weapons."

As it turned out Matt knew a few people from SHIELD and he was definitely planning to call them.

"Anyhow, best to call on the road, we don't want to be here for all the questions, or at least, it's best for me if I'm not around."
