Location: Gravesend, Brooklyn
Synopsis: Mary Marvel met Blade and learned that vampires are more than scary stories.
Cast of Characters: Mary Marvel, Blade

Mary Marvel has posed:
Jeez, she was going to be DEAD.
Mary stepped out of the library and looked around. No bus. Of course. The Batson foster home was about seven blocks away. She could...well, you know...but for seven blocks? It was like using a stick of dynamite to kill a cockroach, even a New York roach.
So, heft the backpack, start the long walk home, and just be glad it wasn't raining.
She didn't hold out much hope for her English test. She was just going to have to do her best...

Blade has posed:
He preferred the daytime. It made it so much easier to hunt vampires when they were almost certainly to be at home and sleeping. The downside was that there was always more security to deal with. And considering he was short on leads for the moment, Blade had chosen to go night hunting.

Standing atop a buildiing just a half block from the library, the dark clad hunter watched from behind sunglasses. Scanning the streets and subway entrances. There were always leeches down here. It was like they thought they actually had some culture.

Down the street as a teen girl emerges and sets out on her trip home, it would seem one such creature has crawled out to hunt. And that girl seems to be the target of preference.

Mary Marvel has posed:
"Hey!"
Mary turned to see another girl, a redhead wearing ripped jeans and heels, a black t-shirt with LIFE SUCKS in red. She was running to catch up. "Hi! Listen, do you mind if we walk together? This isn't a great part of town after dark. I live about four blocks down that way." She points in the same direction Mary was walking.
"Well...all right. I'm Mary." She extends a hand.
"Gabrielle. But everyone calls me Gabby. Probably a joke. I don't talk a whole lot."
Mary chuckles and starts walking again. "Well, you seem to be making it up for tonight." She looks up. There are some clouds, and that dims the starlight somewhat. "I was just at the library."
Gabby smiles, but Mary cannot see the sharp fangs.
"Just came out for a bite."

Blade has posed:
Well the outfit certainly wasn't hiding the redhead's intentions now was it. He doesn't even bother to smirk anymore at the irony. Had the vampire not bothered to call out to catch up with the human teen, he might have overlooked the both of them. But now they have his attention from the vantage point some seven stories up. He doesn't take action yet, but he does pause to scan the street again. Just to make sure this isn't a pack hunt. Which it could still be, but it appears to be less likely. Not a soul living or dead is paying them any attention. A few people are still coming and going from the library but they are focused elsewhere.

His gaze returns to the two girls and he waits. He'll drop just after they pass beneath him.

Mary Marvel has posed:
The problem was...she wasn't alone. Blade could sense three...no, four others, currently hidden along one alley that led to an empty lot someone had repurposed as a small park. And apparently, they believed blood made the grass grow. It was a perfect feeding zone.
Mary looked back to Gabby, who was smirking like Natalie Dormer. She had no special senses like a certain half-vampire, but she *is* a New Yorker, and she was getting an unsettling vibe.
"So, how do we get to your place, Gabs?" Mary asked.
Gabby pointed. "Another block, then we can cut through the park."
<We...? Suddenly I'm going with you? Nuh-UH.> Mary replied, "All right, that'll work."
Gabby looked pleased. This little trap had worked for 240 years, and she had it down pat.

Blade has posed:
Blade ran his tongue along his teeth as he did, finally, spot the accomplices. He moved silently toward that edge of the building he was on before making an effortless seeming jump across the street to place himself above those three. Drawing his sword, the man known as Blade, prepared to take out the backup, trusting for the moment that the redhead would not take action till they were in that secluded park.

He dropped down blade pointed low to try and skewer the first of the vampires and finish it off by removing its head from its shoulders.

Mary Marvel has posed:
The first one, one that looked almost old enough to vote, never knew what hit him. The blade caught him by surprise, and he had one moment of shock before the blade cutting through his neck answered all his lingering questions, even if it wasn't the answer he wanted.
However, it wasn't stealthy enough for the other two, a matched set of female vampire twins to spot him and go to instant high alert, springing apart. One pulled out a sword, the other drawing a sleek littke .380 pistol.

They were almost at the alley when a rather meaty sound came through from the park, and Mary said, "Hey...what's that?"
Gabby looked and Mary took off running toward another alley further down. Gabby was caught off guard, but her decision after that was simple. Vampire crews were easy to find, but blood was blood.
She ran towards the alley Mary has ducked into, fleet as the wind.

Blade has posed:
Blade hit the ground, using the no long 'living' vampire to cushion his impact and ripped the sword free. As the other two drew weapons, his free hand snapped outwards, launching a pair of throwing stars toward them. Hearing the pound of footsteps in the distance, he had a good idea that the prey had bolted. He did not waste time with the twins, slashing past them toward the street again, intent on not losing the redhead - or leaving the teen girl she was after to become the next victim.

Mary Marvel has posed:
The twins are knocked back by the stars in their bodies, and then the sword slices both cleanly in the time it takes to realize they are never leaving this alley except as cinders...

Gabrielle burst into the alley, moving fast to catch up to Mary. Gabrielle spins her around to slam her againt the wall. No reason to hide the fangs now.
"Any last words, bloodpack?"
Mary looks startled only for a moment...and then smiles. "Only one. SHAZAM!"
Blade suddenly gets a clear indication od where they might be, as a bolt of lightning lances out of the clouds and into the north alley.

Gabrielle is flung back down the alley a good ten feet, momentarily stunned. She looks up, blinking in confusion.
Mary Batson is gone. A tall, majestic brunette woman in a gold and red costume stands before her, the white hooded cape fluttering behind her.
"You...are in SO much trouble," Mary Marvel says.

Blade has posed:
Yeah. A lightning strike in an alley just across the street was probably a good indication of where the trouble had relocated to. But now that begs the question of what kind of trouble it has now become. Vampires don't weild lightning. Or they had better not. That would be an escalation Blade had no desire to try and account for.

As he slashed past the twins, the dhampir sprinted and lept across the street and skidded into the mouth of the north alleyway. Just in time to briefly wonder - was he in trouble, now, too?

Mary Marvel has posed:
When Blade burst into the alley, it was confusing what to focus on first.
There was the beautiful-almost-beyond-human brunette, wearing a very colorful costume. Complete with cape.
The next was the vampiress, mouth latched on the brunette's exposed throat, her arms and legs clutching around her smoothly-muscular body, feeding on her.
Then the next surprise. She wasn't feeding on the woman. She was TRYING to, and very hard by the look of it. It just...wasn't working. The fangs were dimpling the flawless flesh...they just weren't penetrating.

The woman looks up as Blade appears, then glances to Gabrielle before looking back at him and saying, "...Friend of yours?"

Blade has posed:
Well that wasn't expected.

Blade stands there a moment and just stares. If this is an absurdist sort of scene, what is? He walks forward with purposeful strides. Sword still in hand he looks to the vampire pathetically trying to feed and failing.

"Friend? No." His voice is deep and predatory. He just isn't hunting the human (?) girl. "She's a vampire. I'm a hunter. Here to end her preying upon the innocent and helpless."

Because right now Mary Marvel looks totally helpless, right?

Mary Marvel has posed:
The woman blinks. "AHHHH. Vampires. Right. Yes, she certainly ACTS like one." She grasps Gabrielle by the back of the neck, much like grabbing a squalling cat. Blade can tell the blood frenzy is upon her, obscuring any humanity she might have had. Mary holds her by the neck, then says, "This...vampire? Are they still the person they used to be? Is that person still in this...thing, whatever it is?"

Blade has posed:
Blade closes range, the blade tip still held low. Till he sees otherwise, it would seem this new arrival has the ability to handle herself and the situation.

He shakes his head, "They are responsible for their actions. They are not mindless creatures such as ghouls or .. zombies as the media portrays. But when they hunger, they lose inhibition. All they can think of is feeding the blood lust. But there is a formerly human mind in their skulls. But they are not living. They are undead. Sunlight will burn them to ash. Holy Water."

Mary Marvel has posed:
Mary looks at Gabrielle. A formerly human mind. This was a person, once.
She knows that Gabrielle is a danger, a VIRULENT danger...but she can't do it.
She suddenly slams Gabrielle down against the frozen ground, the impact cracking the ground and stunning her. She stepped back, then turned.
"...I can't..." is all she can say as she walks to the far corner of the alley.

Blade has posed:
Blade watches. He doesn't flinch from the display of power. He listens as the powerful woman faces the reality of killing. Even if this creature is no longer human or living, it is still a moral delimma. It is, however, not a delimma he has a struggle with any longer.

Closing in on the stunned vampire, he states, "They spread like vermin. that you were invulnerable is a blessing for yourself. You'd have been dead or a new thrall. So many others lack your defenses." And with that he slashes down and removes the redheaded vampire's head from her body. He watches as the body begins to turn to ash. When there is nothing left, he looks toward the powerful brunette. "It's over. It's done."

Mary Marvel has posed:
The woman sighs and turns back, looking at the as as it scatters in the chill wind. "...Killing people is wrong. And she looked so much like a person." She smiles ruefully to Blade. "I'm still having trouble handling the fact that there are things that I *still* can't do." She pauses. "What is your name?"

Blade has posed:
Blade sheathes the sword and adjusts his trenchcoat. Looking to Mary, he walks a bit closer. "Killing is wrong. Vampires have violated the laws of nature and exist as undead when they should have ceased to exist. They can only survive by drinking the blood of the living." He looks to her from behind those dark sunglasses. "Blade." He paused then asked, "And who are you? ... Lightning Girl?" he guesses.

Mary Marvel has posed:
She raises one delicate eyebrow. "Blade?" She ponders for a moment. "Perfect. I'm Mary..."
<IDIOT!>
"...Marvel. Yes, call me Mary Marvel." Realllllll smooth, Batson. At least you look nothing like what you normally do.
"Sorry. I haven't been...doing this for very long."

Blade has posed:
Blade listens and nods. He seems rather serious as a person, certainly intense while he is on the hunt. He listes. "Mary Marvel." He nods."It's nice to meet you. Most targets don't survive as well as you have." He considers the last part. "starting out as a hero? Well you could have picked a less dramatic sort of event." It's almost said as a joke.

Mary Marvel has posed:
She makes an odd face, the kind of face where you might expect her to start scuffing the ground like a kid called upon by the teacher after a night of playing Fortnite instead of studying. "It kinda usually is...loud? But I usually plan better. And I wasn't expecting to run into a vampire tonight, Blade. So I'm kinda glad you're here, to do what I...have trouble doing. Are there a lot of vampires around?"

Blade has posed:
Blade nods. He doesn't make anything of her expression or almost-toe-scuff. "It's what I do." Because, reasons. He looks to the ash. "Less now." Dark, morbid humor. "There were four after you. I killed the three accomplices in the other alleyway. There are vampires all around the world. They love cities because they can blend in more easily and they have a nearly unlimitd source of food.

Mary Marvel has posed:
Mary grimaces. "WONderful."

Wait...after HER? Dang it all, she's trying to keep her identity a secret. She certainly can't change back NOW.
"Uhm, I should get going. Things to do, people to save!"
<If I head over to Coney Island, change back there...I have to take the subway back, but I can make it.> Life was a lot easier before she had to plan around a secret identity. "I...wish you luck with all the vampires. If I see any...well, I'll find you."
She waves, then jumps up...and keeps going up until she flies up out of the alley and out of sight. So...she can fly.
