Thor trains against Power Girl!
Date of Scene: 04 January 2020
Location: Gym, Avengers Mansion
Synopsis: Thor and Power Girl have a spar. She wins, then they discuss battle tactics.
Cast of Characters: Thor, Power Girl

Thor has posed:
Thor finds one of the very finest warriors of Midgard to train against, the Sun Warrior of Krypton called Power Girl! Just like it is when he spars against the Hulk, the barrier around this arena is amped up to the highest level it'll go. There's a reason Thor doesn't get to do too much sparring down here, as even Tony's tech has trouble when it has to contain power like this. The power of the great Sun Warriors is fabled indeed, and it'll take all of Thor's training and experience just to keep up!

There may also be Asgardian Ale available after the great battle...only a magical brew like this has any hope of actually having the normal affect of ale on a mighty being like her.

Power Girl has posed:
Technically Kara Zor-L, or 'Karen' was of Midgard, as much as one could consider it anyway. The Kryptonian woman had her hair down, her form wrapped in her rather iconic white costume as she stretches her arms over her head and then exhaled a breath. It was rare that she got to cut loose and that makes training hard, but between tech and training partner this was probably the best she could manage without going into space itself.

That and, she'd tried Asgardian drinks at Club Mjolnir before, it -was- about the only thing that she'd been left able to feel.

"Alright," she speaks as she shakes out her hair and takes a ready stance. "Lets see what we can do."

Thor has posed:
Thor, naturally, is entirely honorable about this sort of thing, and unlike men of Midgard, he can actually look her in the eye while conversing. Probably has something to do with all the mighty female warriors of Asgard he was raised with. "Indeed! I am grateful for the opportunity, for it is rare to be able to use my strength without worry." And despite all the sparring he does with Hulk, Hulk is a physical bruiser who simply doesn't have the combat options of Kryptonians. This will present a much wider array of challenges than the raw rage inspired strength Hulk commands.

Ah, yes, the rules. "The barrier around us simulates 'collateral damage.' If we hit it so hard the barrier breaks, it will be counted as a 'ring out.' We must always focus on the civilians around us even as we do battle against mighty foes. Otherwise, the one standing shall be victor."

Power Girl has posed:
"So we try not to throw each other around so much then?" she questions, the blonde walking a lazy half-circle as if testing the barricade before she turns to face the Asgardian properly and rolls her shoulders. "The bad guys aren't always great about that one, they like to throw stuff at you even if it's more likely to just...hurt someone else than me. Guess that's why they're bad guys."

A shrug, she raises her hands to signal she was ready. "Alright then, on your 'go'?"

Thor has posed:
"Basically, yes. And yeah, the villains tend not to care, and that's part of why we train to be better...why little quirks like this are added in, so when the villain throws a big object, or even a civilian directly, we're ready to minimize the loss of life. It can be easy to hit the other guy so hard he goes flying...often through buildings, which frequently destroys them. I myself have been hit hard enough to destroy buildings by flying through them before, and it is a regret I am still trying to train to correct."

But yes, to begin, "Very well! Begin." And then Thor's eyes crackle like thunder, the great Hammer Mjolnir appears to be charged with electricity, as it crackles blue, and he moves in to attack...which turns out to be a feint. Thor's actually testing her out, seeing how she fights, how and where she likes to try to hit.

Power Girl has posed:
Power Girl certainly was going to live up to the name, that much was clear when the Asgardian rushes in. The rush of the hammer as a strike is something she moves to avoid, but when it turns into a feint it almost looks like she were caught too commited to the movement. She wasn't however, without a trick up her sleeves.

While the hammer comes to readjust to capitalize on the gap created, a sudden flare of intense heat and pressure blasts forth from her gaze in the form of her heat vision. Intended more to blast the man back rather than burn, she's already adjusting her guard to recover before she rushes forwards with a flurry of rapid punches.

Thor has posed:
She is SO much faster than Hulk. He deflects punches as best he can with the Hammer, trusting its magical nature and electric shocks are going to be discouraging. The heat vision actually strikes him, and it's like being caught in the force of a star...

But he can take the full force of a star, and gradually gets Mjolnir in the way of those piercing beams. And then, literal lightning bolts escape the Hammer, crackling across the space at, well, the speed of lightning, attempting to force her back, and perhaps cancel the heat vision. Perhaps due to the nature of the lightning, he cannot truly engage in a 'beam war', as both heat vision and lighting ignore each other.

Power Girl has posed:
Lightning, at least the natural kind, carried plasma. The burst of heat and heat is similar, but different enough with the opposing directions of force that she is indeed forced back by the blast, ceasing the beams. It wasn't so much that the two stopped each other, but that they would blast through or -around- each other enough to throw her back.

Skidding onto her feet, Power Girl takes a moment to breathe, but it's only a moment before she's blurring forward in flight, clearly intending to use elevation to her advantage as she rushes in, darts high and then attempts to crash downwards with a punch that would probably go right through the average cement street like it were foil.

Thor has posed:
All that momentum she built...can he use that? He can! He waits for the punch to get very close to him...and showing some real quickness of his own, actually reaches up to grab her hand and force it down to the floor, where there will surely be floor repair damages Tony can pay for later. He uses his other hand to wield Mjolnir down on top of her.

He also attempts to use Mjolnir in one of the more dangerous tricks he can pull with it...if she's hunched over or flat, even for a second, Mjolnir is an immovable weight to all but himself, and he can use it to pin her while he rains down blows, and channels lightning through the hammer.

Power Girl has posed:
There's really only one way to avoid being pinned down a weight that even she might not be able to lift and she's left with no option but to take it as she feels that pressure: She rolls to the side. Of course, it doesn't quite work perfectly, the hammer misses and 'rolls' off her back, but it catches her cape with a heavy impact and lightning flashes through the material into her body. It's magical nature is enough that she's certainly feeling it, given the cry of pain that comes from the blonde's lips before she manages to reach up and release the fastenings, leaving the red material behind and beneath the hammer.

Fists clenched, she surges forwards again, a pair of punches followed with a sudden flight-assisted rising kick towards the Asgardian's chin. By now, he'd probably worked out the fact that the Kryptonian was clearly one of the more aggressive fighters of her 'family'.

Thor has posed:
Well, that left a mark. Even a bruise. Asgardians do not bruise easily. Or at all, in most cases. In fact, it actually sent him flying towards the barrier. This is where it's made clear he's been practicing under these rules for a while, because he summons Mjolnir back to his hand, and uses it to redirect his flight back away from the barrier. Even so, it's a near miss. If he hadn't been practicing under the rules, he'd probably have lost right then and there. "A mighty blow. But there is much battle yet to be waged!"

He moves forward, away from the barrier...and starts spinning Mjolnir around. He has several options here...he can fly back into battle with it, throw it, use lightning from it...but instead he waits...to see what she'd do next...

Power Girl has posed:
"That hammer thing was a neat trick," PG actually manages to speak, watching the Asgardian recover and begin the winding up of his weapon. Mjolnir was impressive, certainly more versitile than she was adjusted to, so the Kryptonian was remaining cautious for a moment as she weighed up her options. She was faster, but even here there was only so much speed one could use without a resultant sonic boom. She wasn't a Speed Force user after all, and that shockwave would likely trip the barriers.

Instead she's left to consider for a moment longer before she makes her decision, a high-aimed bolt of heat vision blasting towards his face before she sweeps forwards, intending to try and land another punch and hoping she'd put him off-balance.

Thor has posed:
There are many things to consider when one battles an opponent that is stronger than you. Chief among them is, how does one redirect that force? The heat vision salvo was a thing he was ready for, and he put Mjolnir in between himself and the blast. Fortunately, the hammer also makes a pretty good shield, even if one does have to be pretty precise with it due to the lack of surface area.

Since he hadn't moved too far away from the barrier yet, he reaches out with his other hand, once more grabbing at the attacking hand...and trying to lead her momentum behimd him. If he pulls this off, she'd have to stop on a dime midfight to avoid the barrier.

Power Girl has posed:
On a dime? Barely. The barrier itself is so close she could swear she felt herself brush against it as she's forced to redirect her flight at the last moment. She'd almost lost entirely and easily then, leaving her to turn in the air and slowly try and ease away from the spot in a cautious circling. Her rush had left her in a bad spot now, the reversal having left her cornered and prime to be 'ringed out'.

Thor has posed:
But Thor is no fool. He knows it must be done carefully, and without giving her opportunities to counter. The most aggressive option would be throwing Mjolnir. She can't stop the hammer, but it also comes with the threat of hitting the barrier if it misses. Lighting has a similar caution to it, she could dodge, and there's nothing behind her but poor innocent spectators. He could attempt to enter melee, but it comes with the problem of her pulling a jujitsu type trick like he's been doing the entire battle.

In the end, Thor puts his trust in Mjolnir, he can control the hammer if it misses, but he cannot redirect the lightning so easily...so he flings Mjolnir. He knows she has to dodge in order to keep the battle going, and he's concentrating quite a lot on this throw, ready to recall the hammer if he believes he'll miss.

He'll also have to be ready for counterattacks, particularly since the Hammer's being thrown.

Power Girl has posed:
If it were any other object? She'd catch it. But Mjolnir's nature was pretty well-known, it even bordered on literal legend! Twisting out of the way, she instead lets the motion continue and spins before taking flight with the air whipping around her. A rushing tornado of white and blonde, she's surging towards the Asgardian again in another rush...until she suddenly stops and drops low, coiled at the ground and trying to seize the man by his collar to hurl him upwards before that hammer can reach her.

It would need to be pretty fast!

Thor has posed:
He figured that might happen, and Mjolnir is instantly recalled to his hand. Funny thing about Mjolnir, it never stops till it reaches Thor's hand. And if he keeps his hand betwen Power Girl and Mjolnir, it's going to pretty solidly impact her in the back before it thinks to go around. Even still, he has less than a second to redirect his own flight pattern, as he needs the hammer to do that. The barrier DOES include the ceiling...not that there's spectators in the sky, necessarily, but it's still a 2 story mansion and the training room is on the first floor, so Tony does that to keep the 2nd floor from being damaged too much.

It's up to Mjolnir to YANK Thor to the ground pretty thoroughly...Power Girl may or may not come with him, but it's clear he's trying to avoid the ceiling, and Mjolnir's magic is definitely working to just such an end!

Power Girl has posed:
Well, now she was being crushed...but this time she had Thor pinned underneath her. It still hurt, but at least he was going to be feeling some of it too! Refusing to release the grip lest he slip free and leave her stuck, the Kryptonian's eyes glow red with the heat of her vision yet to be released and she clenches her teeth as she looks down at him. It was a magic weapon, and magic definately could hurt.

"Do you give up?" she questions, the energy dancing behind her eyes practically adding a hum beneath the crackling of electricity that had filled the air at intervals earlier.

Thor has posed:
Thor can't help but chuckle to himself. "You're technically pinned too, but since I can't move either...yes, I'll yield. This isn't the kind of fight I can win against a stronger opponent." Being pinned to the ground with Power Girl on top...that's exactly the kind of fight the tactical less powerful guy doesn't want, and the more powerful person with raw strength does want. "Well fought."

He removes Mjolnir so she can get up, and then...to the Asgardian Ale!

Power Girl has posed:
"Fair," Power Girl comments, exhaling a sigh of relief as the hammer is removed and rolling off the Asgardian. She reaches out, patting him on the shoulder before sitting up. "We'll call it a...'mostly tie'?" she offers lightly and makes to walk towards where her cape lay slightly damaged. Retrieving the red material, it's slung around her shoulders with a laugh. "So, does that mean we both get a drink?"

Thor has posed:
"I was going to pass out drinks regardless of outcome. Hmmm. What do you think I could've done better that might've caused a cleaner outcome?" One of the customs of the people of Asgard, if you win, they'll ask for feedback. Because they're always looking to get better.

Still, he pours a frothy mug for her, and another for himself. Ah, the good stuff. Despite Tony owning every expensive vintage known to man, none could compare with the ale of his people.

Power Girl has posed:
If it was a custom of Krypton, Power Girl wouldn't know, but she wasn't going to object now. Shrugging her shoulders, the woman moves to take the mug offered and she holds it lightly. "Well, I guess you'd have to be more careful if it was raining or whatever..." she begins, taking the first cautious sip before biting her lip.

"I suppose pinning someone like me in place doesn't make us less dangerous? You need to be mindful of powers like heat vision."

Thor has posed:
"Oh, I knew you were still plenty dangerous under the pin, but I felt if I could pin without being pinned, which is what happened, I might've been able to bring home a win by staying away from your line of sight. And line of breath. You didn't breathe Jotunheim at me, but I know you can." Jotunheim being the Frost Giant's land.

"I might've been better off in the rain...particularly if there's a storm. It turns out I can, in fact, join my strength with that of Storm of the X Men for a powerful storm indeed. The other advantage of storms is that natural lightning can be used to fuel Mjolnir." Hence how he got the name 'thunderer.' Creating a natural storm helps. He sips at his ale...and seems quite content, despite having lost.

Power Girl has posed:
"Doesn't it get harder to control where the lightning goes?" Karen speaks, sipping her drink and giving a little chuckle. "I mean, I don't know for sure. But it might be dangerous if bystanders get too close." Still, the Kryptonian bites her lip behind her mug, considering for a moment. "I suppose you're right. But I wasn't sure that it would slow you or work as well on you, and my heat vision is quicker to use."

Thor has posed:
"Not usually. If there's natural lightning in the sky, the default place for it to go is Mjolnir. It's a perfect lightning rod, and unless I direct the lightning otherwise, it will always strike the hammer. So the lightning strikes the hammer, and then I can decide what to do with it, whether it's charging up a mighty swing, a mighty throw...or even redirecting it with extra strength."

"You may have been wise not to try it...as I said, it's similar to Jotunheim, and I've had to fight in such frigid conditions many a time. And then there's the cask of Ancient Winters. That thing was essence of cold in a box. It was never a good thing when King Laufey brought that out."
