Cast of Characters: X-23, Wolverine

X-23 has posed:
Harry's Hideaway is one of those bars that is known to the locals. It is also a place where those who are underage may be able to get in, but Harry is not going to be losing his liquor license. However, with the private school not that far away, it has become a regular watering hole for the students and faculty.

Laura wouldn't really be termed a regular, but she did drop in from time to time. No set days or times. Completely at random. Her training didn't lapse. It wasn't paranoia if there were people after her. Since there were, never would she have a routine.

She was sitting at the bar with a good view of the front door, a soda in front of her on the bartop as she sipped through a straw. She was waiting for her burger to be delivered. If her nose wasn't lying, it should be less than three minutes.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan alternated between having routines, and not. He could go a long time, getting into a routine, and then suddenly change it. He could also constantly change things. It was really hit and miss on him. But when he was in town, he would often pay a visit to Harry's. They poured a good Molson's.

He walked in, dressed casually, brown leather jacket over a black t-shirt, blue jeans underneath, nothing too fancy. He walked up to the bar, "hey, Harry, got anything to eat?" and he was immediately served a burger to go with the Molson's being, a burger that should have been hers, but instead, he got it, and they were going to give her another one that the ginger haired girl had ordered, while a third was immediately put on the grill to replace the one. Everyone got bumped because Logan was hungry, and if they complained, well, when they do as much business as Logan, they can bump people too.

X-23 has posed:
That would not do at all.

"That's mine." Simple. Blunt. No wasted words or time. She wasn't looking at Harry though. She was looking at Logan.

She hopped off her barstool and headed around to his side, reaching out a hand to try and take the plate. "Get your own, old man."

Yes, she knew who he was. They weren't exactly best buddies yet they also tolerated each other reasonably well. They'd met a few times, after all. Though he seemed to prefer she not be around. Maybe it was the clone thing. It had to be a bit off putting. For both of them.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan, two hands on the burger, lips approaching it, about to take a bite, looked over at the younger girl. She had the most intent gaze he had seen, since he had seen images of himself. He looked back to the burger, took a slow bite, and then placed it back down on the plate. "Harry, another one, and an extra for her."

Then, he patted the stool beside him, "Listen, Laura, we should talk." He was no father figure, but, they couldn't ignore each other forever.

X-23 has posed:
An dark expression was on her face, the frown something to behold. She was looking at the burger with the bite taken out then back to the man who had dared to trespass on her dinner territory.

"So talk." The fact he ordered more burgers didn't make up for what he did. Not in her book.

She did go back to her side of the bar to get her drink, coming back and taking a seat two stools over from him, giving that bit of space between them.

Wolverine has posed:
Logan looked at her little show of defiance, and couldn't help but let out not quite a laugh, but some sort of an abrupt exhale of breath. He was smiling and took a sip of his beer. "Look, I'm not yer...," a second burger was placed on the table, for Logan, presumably the one intended for the redhead, and Logan slide it over to her, he'd be taking a different one. "Thanks," he did say to Harry though.

"I got no right..." he paused. "I've been there. I know how it is. Better than you could imagine. And, if you're as much like me as I think you are, we're going to be around each other for long time. You got any idea how old I really am?"

X-23 has posed:
"No idea." Laura picked up her burger, eyeing it critically. It was medium rare but it would do. She could smell the difference.

She picked up her burger, taking a large bite and chewing contentedly. She even swallowed and washed it down with a sip of soda before looking over at him again.

"I know that they said, once I reach maturity, I likely won't be aging at all." They. The Facility. Where she was created and trained to be a killing machine.

Wolverine has posed:
"Eh, some, just, slower." He looked his own hand, open palm, then turned it around, and wasn't looking at the points that the claws popped out, but instead at the wrinkles, not a huge amount, but he didn't look to be twenty or so. He looked like a man. No scars, the healing factor saw to that, but there was still signs of maturity.

"I'm not exactly sure, not with all they did to me," they being the Weapon Plus program, "but should be getting close to a bicentennial. Maybe I already passed it. I don't know. You just sort of stop counting after a while. I got memories, not sure which ones are real, and which are fake, but I do have one of a house, up in the country. I guess, if you ever want to explore it, see if you got any roots left, well, I'll show you what I know." He really wasn't much of a father, but this was all new to him, and he was trying.

X-23 has posed:
"Not sure if I have roots." Laura considered that theory for a moment as she munched on her burger. She was about halfway through before she found the words.

"Not like I was born. I was made. So are those really my roots or just the roots of the person they copied?" It was a slippery slope thinking too much about what she was and what it meant as a person. "I guess I could go see. Not sure it matters though. It's just a place." She recognized he was trying at least. Even if the reasoning wasn't something she got completely.

"Bicentenniel? So you are going on 200." She sipped her drink then focused on the important thing. "Are you going to expect a card or present or something? Cause I'm not good at that."

Wolverine has posed:
"Bullshit." Logan didn't pull any punches. "I don't want to step on Hank's toes here, but twins, twins," yes, he repeated himself, but he was kind of trying to explain something he didn't fully understand himself. "They're one sperm, one egg, that splits, and creates two people. Same blood. Same DNA. Same everything, except experience." He knew at least that much, though fraternal twins were a whole different thing.

"It dosn't matter how you came to be here. Fact is, you're here. Ain't nothing about my life that's been what you'd call normal, so why should yours be any different?" He was trying. And he was glad that she was at least considering exploring it. And then he moved seats, to the one she had conspicuously left empty, so he could whisper, "an I'm going to let you in on a little secret, but if you tell anyone, there'll be hell to pay." Then he leaned in to her ear, whispering, "my birthday's April 1st."

X-23 has posed:
Perhaps he had hoped it would be something kept between them. Perhaps he had expected a moment of bonding over the sharing of his secret. Perhaps he even though she'd be touched he trusted her with the information.

He didn't get that. Not even close.

Laura burst out laughing, almost sending soda up her nose. She ended up laughing and coughing at the same time, getting her napkin engaged so she wasn't hacking all over their food and turning away. See! She'd learned some manners! When she finally was able to talk, she was grinning ear to ear.

"April Fools Day?"

Wolverine has posed:
Logan's response was curt. He frowned. His eyes darted around, thinking about who was in here, and she was probably able to read he was giving serious consideration to killing every last person in here, Harry included, but he thought better of it. He ended up answering her by taking another swig of his beer, and extending one claw, the middle one, blunt side to her, in an up yours gesture. He tried, she laughed.

X-23 has posed:
The middle claw got more giggles from her but at least now she was smiling and obviously more relaxed. So, while he might not have wanted laughter, he did get her to be less stand-offish.

"Just seems like a bad day to be born. So many jokes to be played." She shrugged though, sipping her soda (without choking). Then she lowered her voice. "Mine is February 1."

Wolverine has posed:
Retracting the claw, the skin immediately healed over, as it always did. He wiped the blood off with a napkin. No doubt Stryker, or someone like him, would want the contents, not that finding a sample of Logan's blood was particularly difficult.

The next burger came, and Logan would thank Harry, taking a bite of it. All he'd had so far was one bite of her burger. He then asked, "you don't want, like, a pony or something, do ya?" She was a girl. And he was teasing her.

X-23 has posed:
That earned a tilt of the head as she chewed on another bite of burger. Once she swallowed, her brows furrowed as she looked at him curiously.

"Why would I want a pony?"

And therein laid the rub. She wasn't like most girls. She never had her phase of wanting a pony nor had she ever played with a doll. It wasn't that she was trying to be funny, she literally had no idea why anyone would want a pony and what it was a reference to.

Wolverine has posed:
"Just something a lot a girls want. A cliche." He then bit into his burger again, "so, when do ya want to head up north, see if anything of the old house still stands." He was serious about trying to show her where he came from, and in that, showing her where she came from. It was the best he could. He didn't know anything about the facility, and what was left of it, was likely destroyed. He was trying to be there for her, and where he began seemed like as good a start as any.

X-23 has posed:
"Whenever."

Seemed she was agreeable to the road trip at least. She polished off her burger then pulled over the on he'd taken that single bite out of, taking a big chomp off of it as well. No worries about cooties.

She also didn't seem worried about school. Wasn't like they were teaching her anything she was really interested in. Mainly they just wanted her to learn how to not think of everyone in a room as a potential target or threat. In other words, she'd be glad not to go back.

Wolverine has posed:
If anyone might have a chance in hell of getting through to her, learning to live in this world, it might be Logan. And if not, well, at least she'd learn some things along the way. He began eating some of his French fries, then took another bite of his burger. Yeah, cooties. Between her and his healing factors, it could have anthrax and they could both eat it. "So, when do ya want to go?"

X-23 has posed:
"N..." Laura stopped, having almost answered but some little thing in her head that sounded a lot like Jean was telling her that she should let people know when she was going places.

"Have to be sure they know I'm leaving at the school. Don't want Jean to worry." And she would. The two of them had bonded some during her time at the school.

Wolverine has posed:
"Well, do that, do whatever ya need to. I'm ready when you are." Logan didn't generally leave notes or let people know about his activities. He came and went as he pleased. If anyone needed him, they knew how to get into contact with him, at least as long as he wanted people to get in contact with him. Sometimes he'd just disappear to Canada or Japan, leaving behind his phone, not checking E-Mail, and doing his thing. He finished off his meal, and got up, then did something absolutely unforgivable. He ruffled her hair.

X-23 has posed:
As his hand made contact with her hair, her own arm snapped up immediately to slam /hard/ against his own, trying to force it away. She felt that impact shoot up her arm due to his reinforced skeleton but that didn't matter.

The frown was back. "Don't do that again." There was a little growl in her words, her voice low and more primal.

Then she lowered her arm back down, took a bite of her burger and glared daggers at him.

Wolverine has posed:
"You got it in yer hands, and feet. I got it all over. Best remember that." It wasn't by choice for either of them, but there were advantages. He looked over at her. He had been making progress, at least it had felt like it, but he had pushed too far, and set it all back. "All right kiddo. Let me know." Then, as he was walking out, he abruptly turned, tossing a set of keys her way, "all yers." They were to his motorcycle outside. He'd have to get a new one.

X-23 has posed:
It was instinct. As the keys came her way, Laura snatched them out of the air to look at them curiously. When she realized what they were, that annoyance faded a bit and she /almost/ smiled. Not quite. She wasn't giving in that easily.

"Thanks." Dammit. She had been polite after all.
