Date of Scene: 07 January 2020
Location: Kitchen - Xavier's School
Synopsis: What's a soul to do after a trying Danger Room session? Why, share homemade mac 'n cheese with friends and family, of course!
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Cannonball, Samuel Morgan

Nightingale has posed:
Simple things were never really quite that simple, were they? What had begun as a simple first-aid scenario in the DR turned into a full-blown ocean rescue. Whether or no it was a simulation or otherwise, it was still as emotionally draining as the real thing. What's a girl to do when they reach the end of their rope?

Why, mac 'n cheese 'n chill, of course! A familiar, ooey, gooey aroma soon fills the air of the kitchen, and Shannon is only just now puttering about and washing up the pots used to make the golden goodness that is even now undergoing its metamorphosis in the oven, to change it from mere pasta and dairy to Comfort Food Supreme. She's in her favorite PJ's, which means the red tartan sweatpants, baggy gray tank top, and fluffy sheepdog slippers. She's unusually quiet as she works, and is actually shaking a bit.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie has been working on a few things. The club keeping him busy, but he has been around at least some. Tonight he has came into the mansion a bit late, work and a few other things having taken his time of late.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
There are two things certain after an experience like this. One, Bear will be there when it's over and demand to play. Two, someone is going to want to talk about things. It's the way things go. Bean is used to it, but also used to the displacement activities that some people get into rather than share. By the time he can smell the mac 'n cheese, he knows his hunch had been right.

As he walks into the kitchen, it's clear that he's been doing some relaxing of his own, wearing a loose long-sleeved t-shirt with the UFoP logo, loose lounge pants and thick socks.

If you cook it, he will come.

Nightingale has posed:
The cheesy goodness is already filling the air, with toasted notes tantalizing the senses overall. There really wasn't that much to do by way of dishes despite having made a double batch, so by the time Bean and Sam are both there, Shannon's nearly done anyways. Her hair gets slicked back with a little dishwater and soap as she runs her fingers through her golden tresses, leaving a trail of suds behind atop her head. She smiles a bit at both gentlemen and nods. "Hey, you two..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will walk over and brush the bubbles out of the girls hair, and says "Hey Kiddo, how you doing?" He looks over to bean, and nods "And you too, how you doing?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Acceptably well. Thank you." is Bean's reply, finding himself his usual seat. Despite the looser outfit, he's obviously still somewhat taciturn. "I'm more concerned for Shannon at the moment."

And direct. Let's not forget direct.

"She just aced taking lead of a team in a simulated crisis under extreme time pressure. It's not an easy lesson."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just shrugs, her wings ruffling--and a feather fluttering to the ground. "Someone had to do it. If nobody made themselves a point of contact, we'd all have been running around willy-nilly in there. She lets out a long, slow sigh, her gaze a little bit distant. "So much for a simple first aid practice scenario."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks a bit and says "Hmms, someone proving she has it in her to help people, and to take charge of things? " He will move to pour himself a glass of tea, and smirks a bit "Ah would never ever have seen that coming." He will sip his tea smirking at Shannon.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"Don't forget delegating tasks, saving a few hundred people at the same time off a sinking ship in the middle of the ocean..." Bean gives Shannon a smile and folds his arms, trying his best 'amused mock-stern' look. "You took charge, you dealt with the unexpected. That's the only way you learn about yourself."

Nightingale has posed:
"And very nearly added about two cups more of very warm water to the ocean on top if it all." Shannon wrinkles her nose at that rather delicately phrased, yet frank admission of her state of mind through the whole thing. "Honestly, I had no clue what I was doing. Doug seemed to have traffic control down pretty well. Vi was a willing and much-needed pair of hands, she seemed comfortable handling the minor injuries like small cuts and sprains. Which left me free to go belowdecks for some of the real nasty stuff. The real pleasant surprise was Jamie, sounded like he had some EMT training in there. So fine, let him handle the truly serious injuries. Illyana with her portals, you with your tech... hell, we all worked well together, this wasn't just about me. It was about all of us."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks a bit more but just keeps quiet for now, having said his piece on this one backing up something ha has said in the past.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
"And all of them doing either what you asked them to do, or what you suggested." It seems Bean isn't going to let this one go. "Delegation. It's the hardest part of leadership, and you managed it." As for the other part...

"It's natural to be worried, even scared, when you're in charge. If you're not, something's very wrong. But you never showed it, that's the important part. I was terrified on my first op, could think of about a thousand things I'd done wrong afterwards. Doesn't change the fact that it was a success and everyone came home. Not a lot of people can do this, Shannon. You're naturally good at this. Add that to the many things we've learned about Shannon Lance in the past few months."

Nightingale has posed:
"'Scared' is an understatement. Drowning utterly terrifies me. Which is really weird, because I love to swim. It's incredibly easy to forget that you're in the DR when you're in the midst of one of those drills sometimes." The timer on the oven goes off, and speaking of delegation, Shannon glances back at the two gentlemen as she's sliding a pair of oven mitts on. "Would one of you be willing to get some plates and silverware so we can all dig in? Made a double batch of the mac 'n cheese because I figured one or both of you might be along." Bean's last comment gets raised eyebrows from the winged healer, and she peers right at him. "What things do you mean?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will move to get the plates, and says "how many times have you doubted you could do something and then proved to yourself you could do it grasshopper." He grins a bit and sets the plates on the bar so each can get their own and load it with food.

Samuel Morgan has posed:
Which leaves the silverware to Bean, and he takes that as a sign of trust from Sam. There was a time when he wasn't allowed to touch a knife unsupervised... This leads, of course, to perfectly symmetrical place settings, because Bean always sets the table as if he's serving monarchy. "I would give you a list, but the food would be cold before I got halfway through."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon rolls her eyes a little bit at Bean and chuckles lightly, pulling the pans of mac 'n cheese out of the oven and setting them down on the trivets on the counter to serve. Plopping a big serving spoon into the middle of each pan, she stands well back from the likely feeding frenzy, knowing these two plus mac--especially when it came to Bean. "I'll get that list from you later, then, because I'm blind to it."

Sam gets a raised eyebrow and she definitely rolls her eyes this time, laughing. "Grasshopper? Ha, felt like I was gonna get squished but good! You wanna see me fowling up, and the team doing freaking awesome, you ask Warren about the recording of this DR session. Seriously, everyone else did a fantastic job, they really did."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises at her "The winged girl fowled up?" He just looks at her, "Really your gonna go there?"

Samuel Morgan has posed:
If this were some kind of movie, or filmed in front of a live studio audience, there would be a sudden record-scratch. With exquisite precision, Bean swivels his head to look at Shannon for a moment, smiles, and then returns his attention to the food. Clearly, there will be a list. Itemized alphabetically and probably annotated. And certainly, without a doubt, a lot of talking between friends.

"Bon appetit." and the technopath digs in, his usual double sized portion of comfort... he's going to be quite busy eating that for some time.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head, and gets her own plateful of gooey goodness, digging in with gusto. Yeah, there was going to be an extra mile a day for the next week added on to her morning runs with Bean for this one--but it was worth every bite! "Why do I have a feeling I just opened up a giant can of worms there?" she remarked. As for fowling up, well, now that gets an impish little grin at Sam, and she takes on a hint of his drawl for just a moment. "Yes ah went there, big brother. Not bad for just winging it there."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles a bit and will get him some and has a seat with his food. "Found something interesting in town the other day. Took Alexis to some thrift stores in Mutant town, and we found a poster from one of her grandmother's preformances."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon quirks her brows as she's nibbling on some of her plate full of comfort, her lips curling upwards in a smile. "Really? That's pretty neat, actually. Hope it brought back some good memories for her?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods and says "Oh yea, mostly good things come from it, hoping i might actually get her to go see her granny soon." He tells Shannon "So, you plan on doing alot with the ballet or just an occasional thing?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles some as the ballet is mentioned. "I was kind of hoping Alexis would be teaching some more classes on that. I've been trying to work on those positions and stretches she was teaching me that day, but it'd be nice to expand on that. Who knows, maybe it'll be the thing that cures me of having two left feet."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit and says "Dancing is good for the feed, if you want to work on hand eye juggling is a good one. Ah will make sure to order you a couple pairs of shoes when I get Alexis some more as well. So, how are your parents doing?

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles much more brightly now, her wings ruffling behind her in a more relaxed manner. "They're doing great. Mr. Green was kind enough to fly me down there for New Year's, bless him. Along with a lecture about taking care of myself and maybe putting myself first once in a while." She rolls her eyes and just shrugs, chuckling a little bit. "And thanks for the offer of slippers, I'll take you up on that. How much wilL I owe you for those?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles a bit and says "Now, I would not know anyone who have told ya stuff like that either." He grins at her and ruffles her hair a bit "So, what have I missed with work?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon rolls her eyes and laughs, an errant wisp of pale gold flopping down between her eyes as Sam musses her hair. "Gee, no idea who that could be. But I've got a sneaking suspicion one of them hails from Kentucky, and the other has six very good points to make on the matter. Three points on one side, three on the other."

She shrugs and smiles a bit more. "Haven't missed too much. I gave my recipe for potato skins olé to the line cook, maybe they can try it as a special for pub food? Other than that, it's been mostly business as usual."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will finish up his food, and walk over to put his dish in the dishwasher after cleaning it off. "Well you know you need me call right?" He walks over and hugs her from behind.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and leans into the hug, just glad her big brother's there for the moment. "And tear you away from all that mushy stuff? Never! Seriously though, I do miss ya a lot." She ducks from the noogie that's likely to follow, giggling. "Calling can go both ways too, you know. So... you can call sometimes too."
