Out checking things out.
Date of Scene: 09 January 2020
Location: Bushwick (Mutant Town), Brooklyn
Synopsis: Exploring and dinner
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Nightingale

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie is heading around the area of Mutant town this evening. He wants to find some neat things for himself and Alexis, but he is also doing a bit of checking in on things.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon backwings her way to a semi-graceful landing near the club; it looks as if she might just be coming in for evening sound checks. She's in a red tunic sweater, brown and gold stripe and snowflake leggings, and stylish black boots. As always, her hair is long and loose, with the little blue braid and its silver beads. She's got her brown leather bag at her waist as always. Just as she's about to step into the club, she catches sigh of Sam and waves. "Hey there, big brother!"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over as motions the girl over to hug her when she is close "How you doing kiddo?" He will look over to one of the second hand store "Wanna hang out some?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon glances back at the club, nibbling her lower lip. "Well... guess if you're saying it's okay to be late for my shift, I can't say no, can I?" Chuckling some, she hugs Sam and gives him the world's biggest noogie. "Where to, chief?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks a bit and straightens his hair "Of course ya can say no, and won't even dock your pay. I found out some has been asking around a bit about Alexis, and figured see what I could find out on the sly while checking out a few places

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon musses Sam's hair all over again, determined to leave it looking like he either stuck his finger in a lightbulb socket, or he just got done a cross-country trip, Sam style. "Sure, not sure what good I'll do but you need backup, you've got it. Where to?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie leads her into third hand thrift store, the stores logo character has three arms "Well, just good to have someone walking along with and talking to while looking

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles, and nods. "Who knows, might actually find something nice in the shop. You can sometimes find great books in these places." As the pair head into the Third Hand Thrift Store, she starts poking around some of the gently used books, reading the backs of a few. "So, you think the new 'tender is going to work out? And... are you seriously thinking that he's actually...?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "On the second part oh yea, we doubted it at first but Amara went through a bit with him, and she said she thought so, and she is... not sure what you would call someone who worships olymians still." He looks through some of the posters and such "As for if he will work out, well it depends on a few things partial on his self control.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles somewhat. "Oh, okay. Been thinking I might try to pick up a little Greek. Kind of like I started on German for Kurt and then Bean. He probably doesn't get to hear the language much around here, might be nice to do." A couple books in particular seem to have caught her eye; they appear to be some sort of more futuristic sci-fi, going by the cover artwork. She glances over in Sam's direction, listening for any reference to Alexis.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will continue looking for a moment, and then will head over towards the store owner to pick up a few of the pictures he has found. He will start chatting asking out the guy is doing and how long the store has been around. The fellow seems to recognize Sams and seems friendly enough

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon peers over at some of the pictures, curious about what they are. She seems to have picked up about three of the books that look to be in the same series; perhaps someone's actually got some recreational instead of educational reading for a change. "Find anything good yet, big brother?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "A few things, I found a few movie classic posters." He will look to the books, and after a moment ask the guy if he has seen anyone new that seems out of place lately, and seems this fellow has not seen anyone lately."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon grins and has a look at the posters. "Oh heck, now I wish I'd seen those first! Think I have a new favorite store to check out on days off." When the clerk's back is turned, she whispers briefly to Sam, "Anything yet?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie shakes his head a bit softly, and says "I might be talked into giving you one or two of these if you let me read the books after you have read them.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shows the books to Sam; it looks as if they're the first three from the Star of the Guardians series. "Been meaning to read these for a while, but haven't got around to it, with school and all. You familiar with the series?" She smiles some, letting out a little sigh. "Hope I'm as lucky as you two one day."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her, and says "Ah know some of hickman's wrightting but don't think Ah know that series." He looks to Shannon and says "You just have to be patient hon. How old am Ah?"

Nightingale has posed:
"No wonder you don't recognize these, then, because Margaret Weis wrote them without his help. Kind of hoped the fourth in the series would be here, but it's just the first three." She chuckles a little bit, and shrugs, her wings ruffling--but then drooping a bit. "Old as the hills. So I've got a long wait ahead of me."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her, and says "Well maybe not as the hills maybe a few mole hills.' he jokes a bit with her, and reaches over to mess with her hair as she did with his.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon meeps as her hair very quickly becomes a static-ridden mess, sticking out at all angels as if she'd stuck her fingers in a lightbulb socket. "Very big molehills!" She dodges back, taking up a mock fighting stance; if it were an actual situation, she might actually have done well, but it's plain she's just playing around, by her giggling. "Are we all set here, then, or still some nosing about to do?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well I think we can go check some other places, and see if anyone has ben asking about and seeing what we can find."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods and smiles, trying to straighten out her hair. It's fine and silky, and unfortunately, the more she tries to comb it out with her fingers, the worse the static gets. Finally she gives up, and simply goes to pay for the books, with a smile to the clerk. "Where's next, then?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will walk along the street with her, and says "Well we can grab something to eat if you want, if you were looking for Alexis, where would you look for her at?

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shrugs, and shakes her head. "Given that I haven't seen her much outside of school or the time we went to go rescue Warrior Joe, I don't know. I've seen her at the club, like during my shift yesterday, and I've seen her in class, but socially? Not much."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head a bit to this and says "Ah figure thirst shops, and music shops first. Maybe a few places she might have played.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and falls in step behind Sam. "Going to have to trust your lead on this one, big brother. I've stayed out of your love life, so I don't really know too much about her, but what you and she have both told me."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will lead her to one of the dinner, to grab something to munch, picking one of the tables that will allow them to watch the place "Foods on me, and not litertly."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and sits down, keeping her wings tucked in neatly behind her. "That's real nice of you... thank you! Think this place has some decent fish and chips, and they've got a great 'juicy Lucy' burger. What are you up for?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "I think I would go with the burger, and some fries. What you going to get?" He does pull her chair out for her, and says "So, what you been doing?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Think I'll go for the fish 'n chips this time," the winged healer muses, grinning. "And a root beer float. That's how many miles added on to the morning runs for the week?" Chortling to herself, Shannon settles back in the chair, taking a rare moment to actually relax. "Haven't done much outside of school. The club's about as close as I get to getting out. Chris had been talking about teaching me snowboarding, but he had to go take care of some things just before the holidays and there hasn't been so much as a text since." There's a soft sigh, and her wings droop visibly, as the two wait for their food. "Not sure how I'll figure out how to re-train my gifts so they're less destructive now. Got any thoughts on that? The last he and I talked about it, my gifts are a lot closer to his than I thought, so there's a chance that could work. But who do I talk to now?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well my first thoughts would be to continue on practicing what he has shown you at first. Then maybe work with some of his and josh's training sessions in the DR?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon purses her lips, and shrugs. "We only got about as far as determining that it was even possible before he had to go. You know my gifts, do you really think they'd work in the DR?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Maybe not the same way unless someone was willing to be hurt, but might be able to have the explanation of things there help you."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and ruffles her wings a little bit. "At least it'd be good reference material. Actual practice would have to wait till someone was hurt--and don't you even think about doing that on purpose."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks and says "Only minorly, if we were testing someone's resistance. Ah think we get enough minor things you can get practice

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods. "Next time you go to test someone like that, then, call me down. Two birds with one stone--or at least one bird. A Pidgeon." Rolling her eyes, she chuckles a little bit. "How have things been going with you and Alexis, anyhow? It's been like you're joined at the hip but still..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Pretty good, Ah think Ah might be aggrivating her a bit trying to get her to reconnect with some of her family."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon chuckles, and shakes her head. "Can't tell you how many times mom and dad tried to nudge me into doing things I didn't want. They finally got the idea to just plant the idea in my mind, let me think it over, and come to them about it on my own time."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smirks a bit and says "Well aint like Ah am stubborn or anything huh?" He grins a bit and sips his drink when it comes.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon coughs behind her hand, and it sounds suspiciously like a more colloquial version of a term for 'fertilizer'. Even that much is masked by her taking a swig of her root beer float when it arrives, and nibbling on the fish and chips a few minutes later. "Oh no," she says dryly, when her mouth is no longer full. "You're not stubborn -at all-...."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "No more than you Ah am sure." He will munch a bit of his burger when it comes. He does set his phone on the table, and will show Shannon an old poster for an opera that has a lady looks a lot like Alexis but a little taller.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles as she looks at the picture on Sam's phone. "See, at least I own it that I'm stubborn." Tilting her head, she nibbles on a few fries, considering the picture. "That's a really striking woman in the poster. Is that her nan?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head and says "Her first big time production, she had a reprint at home, and we found that one when we were out the other day.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles, and looks at the picture some more. "I can see the good looks run in her family," she comments, smiling to herself as she takes a swig of her root beer float. It's too large a swig, though, and she gets a tell-tale, very comical look, squinting her eyes shut and putting her hands to her head.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles a bit and will grin at her and says "Gonna have to start ordering you a rootbeer with no ice to go with it to kill the headache are we?"He teases her a bit

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon grins and reaches over to ruffle his hair, determined to get it all static-y and keep it that way. "I won't say no to that. Either that or cheerwine. You've really got me into that stuff."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "Well finding it up here can be hard. " He does order her a rootbeer to help with the drink and says "So anything from here not able to be found around here?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles some. "Well, I do kind of miss saltwater taffy, that can be a little hard to find around here. And one thing you don't see much, but I could make, is Joe Froggers. Real old-fashioned kind of cookie, think it has history all the way back to the days of the old whaling ships."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods his head a bit to this "Thinking about seeing if we can start a monthly order each student able to order 1 type of thing per month from their home area.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles. "Yeah, the saltwater taffy, you're more likely to see in coastal areas. Up and down the coast of Maine, you see it a lot, and in through Massachussetts and Connecticut. Waterford's right near Long Island Sound, so yeah. It's something you'd see there, too. But not so much inland, like here."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "So would you want to get like a box of it sent up a month, say changeable ever 4 months maybe

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon grins from ear to ear and nods, as if she were a little kid at Christmas all over again. "I'd be hard-pressed to share it, though. Unless some cheerwine was involved..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well what I am thinking would be a double of what each student orders so other can try the second batch. Give folks a taste of home but also a chance to learn more about others."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon grins wider still, if that were humanly possible. "I like the sound of that. Kind of like what we did with the wreaths for each student this year. Ran that idea by Mr. Rasputin and he liked it. Each student got a plain wreath to decorate for their door, so they could work their own holiday traditions into the design. It was pretty fascinating to see the results."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, a bit and says "Something to give a bit of identity but also letting one another learn more about the other. There was not a lot of us so it was easier back then."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and works on her fish 'n chips for a few minutes, nibbling away. "Food's a pretty universal thing. One of the easiest ways to learn about someone else's background, next to language and music."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "We ended up getting a lot of it, as we ended up in Brazil for a while so learned more about Bertos homeland that way"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles and thinks on that for a moment. "Lucky, getting to see there. Only met 'Berto once or twice, but he's been really nice both times. Wonder what he would've made of that training run the other day." She rolls her eyes and chuckles. "Been escaping Bean's list for the past couple days. Ten to one he'll corner me about it when I get back home."
