Criminal Amusements!
Date of Scene: 12 January 2020
Location: Coney Island
Synopsis: Summary needed
Cast of Characters: Berri Sundae, Mercy Thompson

Berri Sundae has posed:
Coney Island, not quite a theme park, but certainly close enough. Famous enough to be its own 'thing' certainly...and distraction enough for Berri tonight. Work had slowed, as it often did. Either things succeed or her employers find themselves in prison due to some sort of idiocy and she's forced to look elsewhere. With her parasol resting open over one shoulder in one hand and a small stick of cotton candy in the other, the girl with the two-tone hair walks the path between passers-by and those out for fun, drinking in the telepathic echos of folks just...enjoying themselves mostly.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's out here tonight too, and she's definitely wondering why. It seemed a good idea at the time, but now she's wondering, past the history, past the allure of Coney Island...what's there? Oh she's got her own cotton candy in hand. It's half gone, though but she's smart enough to not waste money on it. One cotton candy will do.

Berri Sundae has posed:
Even among the stranger residents of New York, Berri probably stood out. If not for her attire or her parasol, certainly the pink hair along might bring a glance. Still, the girl pushes her way through the crowds towards the games, people playing and conning themselves at attempts to try and win themselves prizes that could probably be bought cheaper elsewhere. Oh well, each their own right?

Well, for Berri, a far more simple skill-test was at hand; she's stepping past Mercy right at the moment she brushes past one of the would-be players, deft fingers plucking a wallet from a back pocket.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy shakes her head. Trouble magnet indeed. Thank you, Coyote. Thanks,a lot. She's aware of the pickpocketing. She's also not all she seems, indeed Mercy's got her wallet and finds a skee ball game. Simple enough. Win prizes, throw balls into hole, score points. Mercy though is pretty sure this is rigged to a degree. She though does pay the $1 to hav a shot at it, and is still thinking on the pickpocketing. "Hey!" she calls out, then glances around. She's sure what she saw. Pink hair, like somebody dipped it in cotton candy. Oh she's naturally a trouble magnet. This just proves it...

Berri Sundae has posed:
The motion is so practiced, another deft movement of her fingers and the wallet is discarded...less a couple of bills shoved into her pocket. The fact she'd been seen? That was a little suprising, but surely she could slip away before-...huh. Berri's left to pause, to look over her shoulder and raise an eyebrow before tilting her head. Most would expect someone to run when they were called out, instead the silent girl just...stares at Mercy as she comes her way. Creepy.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Hey, you want to come join me in skee ball?" Mercy asks. Sure, Mercy. Invite the pickpocket to play carnival games. One crook taking another's money, right? She's a little spooked by the silent girl though...that's got Mercy a tiny bit worried. Either she's dealing with a mime. Which is flt out creepy. Or. Or she's worriedshe's offended that pickpocket. Oh the things Mercy is worried about. Worrying about offending people who steal.

Berri Sundae has posed:
There was a moment of staring more, eerie as it had been. If Mercy could sense such things, perhaps she'd realise that the girl was trying to peer into her thoughts...but whatever she might find? It's enough to bring a smirk to her lips and a shrug of her shoulders. Weird it might be to invite a criminal to play...weirder still that she accepted! Moving a little closer, the pink-haired girl seems to take her time looking Mercy up and down before she steps up to the 'Carnie', offering over the notes wordlessly.

Then again, 'wordless' was kinda her thing.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy is thinking hard about that wrench set she got for Christmas. Anyone trying to peer into her thoughts wile quitee probably get thoughts of wrenches and then more wrenches and using those wrenches. Mercy's doing her best to be as anti-telepath as possible, simply by being as normal and boring as possible. The 'carnie' takes the notes and hands them both a ball. "You two goin' for the prizes?" he asks, Mercy smiles. "Yeah, though I'm just working out where best to throw" she offers with a look to the poor quiet girl. Mercy's at a loss for how to get through to her, at least for the moment.

Berri Sundae has posed:
That was just...confusing. It was almost so random it had to be practiced and that in itself is interesting. Could the girl tell she was being read? The fact that her thoughts were so detached from the world around them certainly made it seem so.

Still regarding Mercy curiously, she does however reach out to take one of the balls and turn it over experimentally in her grasp before tossing it toward the hole directly. She'd never played skee ball before, but the idea looked simple enough...right?

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Score one for Mercy. She watches, keeping an eye on the ball as if making notes on where to throw when it's her turn. Glancing to the carnie then to the girl.

Mercy takes a more off the wall approach, doing her best to curve the ball toward the hole, and sweet, sweet points. She's totally not got her eye on the giant stuffed animals that are so common at carnivals, nope

Berri Sundae has posed:
Generally, Berri's training was more about throwing lethal weaponry at people than balls at holes...but it seems to be mostly working. Besides, if she decides she wants one of those bears? She's probably just gonna take one!

Another sidelong glance at Mercy, there's a questioning raise of her eyebrow...but it's not always easy to know what the question being asked was!

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's private policy's to not break the law. But. Those bears. Those. Bears....she so secretly wants one. They're big andd stuffed. She could just buy one cheaper but.,...but if they're on offer she'll win one. Or find away to get one. She's not been this perfect little coyote, no, she knows how to get into places she probably shouldn't. Which is an odd if useful skill to have. She throws her second ball quickly, without much care. She's already got a plan to get a bear, and.....that involves breaking her private policy...
