Location: Upper West Side, Manhattan
Synopsis: Kaida meets a certain raven on a rooftop
Cast of Characters: Kaida Connolly, Phantasm (Drago)

Kaida Connolly has posed:
Le Gasp! Book thief! Sorta. Not really. The book in question was slipped out of the bookstore of Columbia University. Frankly, the amount they charge for such books is vastly more the robbery than anything Kaida did and she'll be returning the book when she's done. So, she now has a book on Biochemistry flipped open before her on the rooftop, using the rooftop's lights to read. She stands up on a ledge, looking down at the book, easiest way for her to read. She has nearby a small bag (well, large for her). She currently is gnawing on what appears to be some peanuts. Below, the world moves on.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
And above the world moves as well. Having an extremely large amount of free time thanks to his combination friend, roommate, and coworker, Nick has opted to take a bit of a joy ri- *ahem* PRACTICE his abilities. So now there is a phantasm raven soaring in the night sky.

It is a bit appropriate that of all the birds, the raven was the one Nick ended up with as his form as he's doing an assortment of arial acrobatics. Loops, corkscrews, lifts and dives.

And this is how he ends up running into Kaida as the slightly over two foot bird with the approximate 3 foot wingspan zooms past the ledge she's on. There is no breeze, no sound of the wings, just the vision of a blur of feathers and a rather happy 'woo!'

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink and Kaida looks up only to frown and leap down to the book and whip out her sword. SHe isn't sure about a woo coming from a bird but it sounds an awful lot like a 'hoo' and that's not good for someone mouse sized. Now, admittedly, she's bigger than your average mouse and a fair lot tougher but that doesn't mean she wants to enjoy the talons of an owl. She stares at where the blur of feathers went and aims her sword. She's quick enough to give it a nice little cut and make it think twice about the meal, "Oye, get on, ya stupid bird!" She grumbles as she prepares.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Not exactly seeing the mouse and sword, the blade doesn't do much as it visibly goes into the raven but doesn't hook on to anything. No resistance. Just stabbing at air.

However, Kaida's shouted words does reach the offending bird causing for the raven turn it's head in surprise before looping once more, coming in for a landing on to the roof.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink as she squints in the direction of the bird and she looks over her blade in confusion. She stares at it and then looks back at the bird. She considers it a long moment before asking, "What kind of bird are ye?" She stares for a long moment and then looks at her blade before looking back at the bird, "Well, come on bird." She nods her head, "What are you wanting?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Talons landing on the rooftop, the raven folds its wings before turning to look at Kaida. "Nothing. I was just out having f-." The phantasm pauses, "-practicing. I didn't see you until you started yelling."

He looks to the small weapon in the mouse's hand. "What kind of mouse are you?"

Kaida Connolly has posed:
"A talking bird?" She tilts her head and then she puts the blade to her shoulder, looking carefully at the bird before tilting her head, "What kind of bird are ye?" She asks and hmms as she juts out her chin before she shakes her head, "Showing up out of no where, scaring me and such." She shakes her head and then considers, "You don't appear the type that would go after a mouse normally. So, what's your game? I'm just up here trying to read." She nods her head, her Irish lilt slipping clearly into her voice.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"A talking mouse?" The raven returns back, making an exaggerated mimicry of Kaida's voice, "You know, there are more birds that can talk than there are mice that do the same." He pauses, "But I'm figuring you're about as much mouse as I am bird. Are you a shapeshifter?"

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A smirk and she stands up straight, "There's no mice like me." She slides her sword away and nods her head, "THey don't stand up straight and they don't have hands." She waggles her fingers at him, "And most birds don't talk like this." She smirks and nods her head, "As for shapeshifting...I mean, I guess. Once." She shrugs and then laughs a little, "And now here I am." She nods and then she gestures to herself, "I'm Kaida." She nods her head, "Now who or what are you?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Right now I'm a phantasm." The raven replies, giving a bit of a grimace. "So, kind of got stuck, eh? How'd the family take it?"

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A grinding of her teeth and hse stares at Phantasm, "You ask a lot of questions for a bird, Phantasm." She states simply and then idly taps her fingers on her sword, "I told you about me but I know nothing about you." She shakes her head, "So, why don't we focus on that." She nods her head, "Like, what are ya that something passes right through you?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, Ravens are curious by nature." The bird points out, "And I told you. I'm right now, a phantasm. Sometimes I'm human. But right now, a phantasm.

He pauses. Perhaps for effect. Or perhaps he's considering his words.

"Honestly that's all I got. The person who did this to me didn't exactly stick around to explain a damn thing. I... pretty much know how to use the abilities, and that it's called a phantasm."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink and she tilts her head, "That's...really weird." She states simply enough before shrugging, "Anyway, I don't know what any of that means but I know that typically birds bring trouble. You don't seem so bad." She nods her head, "And if you are sometimes human than I suppose you aren't really a bird." She shakes her head before she idly shifts her gaze to the book and then back to him, "Well, then what now?" She asks, "I am not really sure where this is going or leading."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, coming from a mouse that's extremely weird." The Raven assesses, "But so are my powers. I'll grant you that." He looks over to the book curiously, "Oh! What are you reading?!" The black legged bird struts on over towards the book.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
"A book on biochemistry." She nods her head, "Nothing exciting." She shakes her head, "Well, I find it exciting but ah don't think many find it as interesting as I do." She nods as she walks over and points down at the page, "I've been reading it on and off for a while because I really don't own it but then..." She shrugs, "What can I really do about that?" She then shrugs again and smiles at the Raven, "You a purveyor of biochemistry?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The raven's approach to the book slows down as Kaida turns straight to the last page of this journey's story. A disappointed look forms on the bird's face.

"Not really." He admits, looking to the cover of the book for a bit, "I just like reading. But I'm more into the arts."

The bird backs up, allowing Kaida space with her book. "So, off and on? Why not look for it in the library then? I think most college libraries keep at least one copy of each textbook that is in use for that semester. Also, less chance of a bird strike there."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A smirk, "I can't just check it out and there is only one or two copies." She nods her head, "If ah go in there and take the one copy, what if someone else needs it?" She puts her hands on her hips, "This way, I can always put it back and people don't miss it as there are lots of copies." She nods her head, "Plus, there are always people in the library. Not so much in the store."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Ah. The staying hidden thing." The bird pauses, moving to the edge to glance down to the store front, "Do you do this every night?"

Kaida Connolly has posed:
"Not every night, no. I'm not /that/ studious." She shakes her head, "Not like ah got a test comin' up or anything." She shakes her head and then she smiles, "But I like to learn and it's better to learn than to not in my opinion." She nods her head and then looks out at the city, "Anyway, it does seem to be getting later. I can't stay up here forever, sadly."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The bird nods looking to the dark skyline.Wings bending to rest the tips against hips. Back to Kaida. "Do you need a lift home? I've got time."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A laugh and she shakes her head, "I appreciate the offer but I actually have my own tricks." She idly shuts the book and then hefts it up over her head with an oof, "Stupidly heavy books." She shakes her head and then stumbles a bit before walking toward the open great nearby, "I gotta slide this back down into the shop below." She nods her head.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The bird nods, reaching down, wrapping a wing on the top of the book, the weight greatly reducing from Kaida's burden, "May I? I've got a trick of my own."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink and she shrugs before nodding, "If you insist." She takes a step back to let him have at it before nodding her head and then she shifts her gaze to the grate and then over to him as she tilts her head.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Book in hand, the raven brings the other wing around it, holding it tight against his chest. "Be back in three shakes of a tail feather."

He closes his eyes before jumping up. As he comes down, he doesn't stop as the feet reach the roof level. Instead he slips through the roof. Book and all. Vanishing from Kaida's view.

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink and she just stares before nodding her head, "Well, suppose that explains the whole going through my sword thing." She nods her head as she walks over to tap the roof in that spot and nod her head. She takes a step back befoer saying, "Suppose it isn't that much of a stretch for a talking Raven."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The raven does not return in three shakes of a tailfeather. It's more six before the bird flies through the roof, narrowly missing Kaida AGAIN.

When enough time has gone by, the raven stops flight, opening his eyes as he turns around back to the roof.

"Sorry about that." He apologizes, swiping the tips of his wings together, seemingly brushing them off. Of what, who knows? "Took a bit longer to figure out the shelf system than I thought it would."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A blink and she nods and then tilts her head, "Well, I guess thank you." She nods her head, "It usually takes me a great deal longer to carry that book all the way down there." She nods her head, "I'm strong but...for my size." She nods her head as she shifts a little and shrugs, "That being said, I should get going." She nods her head, "I don't want epople to worry."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The raven nods, a smile forming upon the beak, "No problem."

The wing lifts up offering the tip of the feather towards Kaida, "Nice to meet you, Kaida."

Kaida Connolly has posed:
A nod and she smiles as she picks up her bag and straps it on to her back. She then looks back with a grin, "Good to meet you, too, Phantasm." She then raises a hand and waves before she takes a breath and then as she lets it out she takes off across the roof at speed. Within moments she is gone, moving with fairly impressive speed. Fast enough she could probably be on an interstate and not get passed.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The untaken wing lowers and the raven's head tilts. He watches the astounding display of speed by something even smaller than him. "Hmm." He turns, hopping off of the roof, wings spreading outwards to glide across the night sky. "Just when you think you've seen everything..."
