Poolside Chat
Date of Scene: 15 January 2020
Location: Swimming Pool - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Jean relaxes at the pool, Logan goes there for an entirely different reason, and the two get to do just talk. Something they haven't had the chance to do in a long while.
Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Wolverine

Phoenix has posed:
Jean has taken some time to chill, clear up her mind, to the best degree possible. She finds water generally help, and so she happens at the moment to be lying atop an inflatable air mattress, dressed in a one piece green bathing suit.

She's currently being rocked by gentle waves that seemingly come out of nowhere.

Wolverine has posed:
For a man who can't really swim, Logan, on rare occasions, does venture out into the pool area. Emerging from the mansion, he was dressed in brown swim shorts with darker brown palm trees down the sides. He had a towel wrapped around his shoulders, which he took off, placing by the edge of the pool as he approached it.

He got in, climbing the steps into the shallow end, and walked until he was about neck height, and no further. He could swim, with great effort, but the problem was because of the bones, he had the weight of a 300 pound man, with the natural buoyancy of a 195 pound man. Trying to swim with 105 pounds of extra weight strapped to your body was anything but fun.

He saw Jean, but decided not to disturb her at first. He began moving around, walking, without ever going beyond the portion where his head would slip under the water.

Phoenix has posed:
If any were in doubt at how alert Jean was to her surrounding, particularly when she seems relaxed, there's no doubt here when she greets Logan upon his approach. "How are you holding up, Logan? Kids haven't driven you away from us yet?" The question is asked in a playful tone, and yet she remains as she is, lying on her air mattress with her eyes closed.

Wolverine has posed:
"Not yet," Logan replied simply. The way he timed it would suggest it was a joke. But to anyone who knew his tones, they'd probably pick up on the fact that he had already seriously given it consideration. He was an odd duck. He never stuck around any place for too long. Though he did often come back to the Mansion. It was home. It was familiar. As much he was loath to admit it, he liked it, and the people.

Then, with a sly smile as he moved back to where his shoulders popped out of the water, he asked, "why, you got someone to send me over the edge?" And that was in a teasing tone.

Phoenix has posed:
"You always was revered for your tenacity," Jean jokes, finally opening her green eyes, and turning her head aside to look in Logan's direction. "You think I would do that? You offend me, Logan. I thought we were friends." Jean maintains her playful streak, before getting a little more serious, "so what brought you out here? Nightmares?" Not a trace of humor in that question.

Wolverine has posed:
At the question of what brought him out here, Logan looked at the deep end of the pool, then up to her, and then back to the deep end. "I don't know." He was lying. "I guess... I guess I just sort of like to stare death in the face." Well, this became somber quickly. "Water's one of the few things..." that could kill him was, was left unsaid. He could drown. No matter how good his healing factor, it couldn't solve a lack of oxygen.

And then, to try and change topics, "nice swimsuit. It new?"

Phoenix has posed:
"Doesn't sound very smart...," Jean muses without lecturing, she doesn't offer a token 'I get it', because that's about the rudest thing you can tell someone you've no meaningful way to relate to. A lot of people deal with hardships, and traumas of varying degress in their lives. Not many have to do it over several lifetimes. It's why Jean is especially cautious to never dig into Logan's mind. Not that she's ever been mind scouring willy nilly, but Logan specifically, has seen and dealt with many more horrors than most people can even imagine.

"It's not that nice, I had it for a while now, but it fits and it's comfy, and that's what matters," Jean remarks, before shaking kicking some water towards Logan's general direction, "and now you've made me realize it's been ages since I've gone shopping. That's just wrong."

Wolverine has posed:
"No one ever accused me of being very smart..." Logan offered up in a self-depreciating manner. He was smart, just not in the Hank way. He could read people. He had experiential knowledge. He could speak manner languages, and he could offer up great advice and wisdom when he felt like it.

"Could've fooled me, but if yer set on tossing it out," he reached up with one hand and scratched the five o'clock shadow, "I'll carry yer bags." He was offering to go shopping with her. That was unusual. What was he playing at?

Phoenix has posed:
"I think you were too busy growling at whoever made the suggestion in the first place, Logan," Jean offers quite genuinely, offering a warm smile to her friend and teammate, "you find it easy to be taken for the growly savage, don't you? Less expectations that way, and you've got the edge of knowing it's not true." She lets that linger a moment before offering a reply for the less important part of the conversation, "I didn't say I was going to get rid of my bathing suit, I like it. But I did think I ought to treat myself to a shopping trip, I think I've done enough to deserve it."

She does shift a bit on the air mattress to sit up, dipping her legs in the water, at the unexpected offer. "You're not my purse, Logan, I don't need you to carry my things," she laughs, apparently finding it amusing, "no offense but I've been thinking more along the lines of going with Ororo and Kitty, I somehow think you'll find the entire affair boring, won't you? I mean, you know that shopping mostly mean an excuse to try on different outfits before mmmmmaaayyybe settling for the one?"

Wolverine has posed:
"Still waters run deep," Logan said, both at the waters which no longer seemed to be enduring a gentle wave that had no clear origin. Presumably Jean had been using her telepathy to generate them. He was also quoting the latin proverb.

When she said that he wasn't her purse, he added in, "hey, I offered to carry them, not to pay for the trip. And suit yerself." He smiled, was he serious about it now, or just making a joke. He could be a hard one to read without peeking under the hood.

Phoenix has posed:
Jean did indeed stop shifting the water with her telekinesis since she put more of her attention on the conversation with Logan. "Hey, if you'd offer to pay, I'd have you come along," Jean laughs, before waving her hand dismissively, "either way. I doubt I'll manage to go shopping any time soon, the students are a constant headache and a lot of work. Pretty much why my spare time is spent on relaxation these days."

Wolverine has posed:
If that wasn't a cry for help, Logan didn't know what one was. "All right, red, get dressed. We're going now." Logan wasn't one to offer up too many words when fewer would do. She'd made a challenge, one she might have even known she made, and Logan had taken her up on it. If it was going to take a few bucks to get her to relax and enjoy herself, then it would be money well spent.
