Cast of Characters: Buffy Summers, Winifred Burkle

Buffy Summers has posed:
The Magic Box is closed by now, but Buffy is pouring over numerous big books, and only one of them is a college textbook. While she has a big cup of coffee that is rapidly growing colder by the minute, she is having trouble keeping her eyes open after all this reading. While she's no slouch, she's no Willow or Giles either. "Arrrhg, I wish there were more bookish folks around.." she sighs aloud, stretching her neck and flexing her fingers as she stares at the clock. Her mom was out of town, leaving her alone in the shop with Dawn, who was pouring over some spell book (which Willow claimed was harmless and more about magic history than actual spells), which at least left Buffy in peace and quiet for a bit..

Winifred Burkle has posed:
Fred isn't REALLY bookish. She's more techish. But she does handle books pretty well as a scientist. She's also wandered in because, well, she hadn't really much to do at the moment. Though, finding the Slayer reading about magic was not a thing Fred ever expected to see. "...Reading a magic book? I thought that was Willow's job." She nonetheless manages to find a chair and pull one up beside Buffy.

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers sighs, yawning excessively and eventually climbing to her feet, once she hears the bell ringing at the door entrance. "Oh! Fred! Heeey.." she smiles, happy to see her, albeit still very tired from all this reading. "Oh, this, well..I mean, Wil's all busy with college and had been pondering studying overseas so who knows if she ended up doing that? And Giles went back to England on vacation..And.." Well, she hasn't seen Wesley since he quit being a watcher and is probably off in England too by now, who knows? "Believe me, I'd much rather be spending my time fighting vamps than pouring over books all night, but..." she sighs, glancing over at Dawn, who smiles and waves enthusiastically to Fred from her window nook, where she's busily reading her magic book. "Well, I'm a little stressed from all these people close to me vanishing, and on top of that, all these rumours of the Master's Return has me slightly on edge. There's got to be *something * in here about some prophecy or something that I overlooked..I just dunno where to start.."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
"...Angel's vanished too. I know you don't care about him anymore, but...poof. Gunn's gone, Wesley's gone like you said, even Cordelia's gone to who knows where. Spike hasn't been seen in a long time either." So yeah, the list of missing persons is very very large at the moment. "...As far as I can tell, nobody's here anymore except me and you. So we kinda have to make our own way in the world, and make a bunch of new friends. Because our old friends...don't seem to be too friendly anymore."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers frowns deeply, burying herself in books again at the mention of Angel. "Never said I didn't care about him, but since he abruptly up and left my life, it kinda seemed like he didn't want anything to do with me anymore. And to be fair, with that curse and all, I guess I can kind of understand it, but.." she sighs, "I need to get on with my life, and I can't deal with him giving me a permanent cold shoulder."

She bites her lip, "I'm sorry to hear that your allies are nowhere to be found, I'm kinda feeling lonely myself these days..Willow's so busy with schoolwork, Xander and Anya are off who knows where, Giles went back to England for a vacation..And Spike..Who knows where on earth he is?"

She smiles faintly, "But we're not totally alone in this, I mean, I've found some allies..Piper and Selene, Thomas and Harry, and of course Brian and you! I just hope it's enough for whatever it is we're up against.."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
"...Well. If he were making an effort, he'd visit Dr. Strange or Zatanna or someone like that. But he's so lost in 'I deserve nothing' that he doesn't want to try. It's, as far as I can tell, a chronic depression that he never really tries to get out of, and then he goes to cope by beating up a demon and saving someone, trying to look for meaning in an eternal existence. I know I wasn't able to make him try...I don't know if you could do better." Fred ponders. "So long as you have a boyfriend of your own, probably not. He'd tell you take your great new life and get the hell out of his face, because he can never move on. I did all I could with my machine that simulated paradise, but it didn't work. I'm sorry."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers rolls her eyes, "Yeaah, you're right. I mean, hasn't he punished himself enough? I just wish...We could.." she shakes her head, "But the time to fix things has passed. I have a new boyfriend, and I...I really like him..Angel deserves to move on and find his own happiness." of course could he ever be happy with anyone? "Well...I dunno, things are so confusing right now.." she sighs, burying her head in books. "What about you, are you seeing anyone?"

Winifred Burkle has posed:
Fred looks at Buffy like she'd grown another head. "Find his own happiness? Do you have any IDEA how stupid that sounds? If he did find his own happiness with someone else, the best case scenario is that it's a warrior who can keep Angelus in line. The worst case scenario is that he murders everyone, starting with her, and then comes after you and your friends again. Think this THROUGH before you go wishing happiness for him. It's short sighted and loses sight of the situation he's really in." Back to herself? "No. Gunn and Wesley seemed interested before they disappeared...but they disappeared, so I have no one now."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers frowns more deeply, "Well...I mean..The curse only takes effect if he experiences perfect happiness. what if he were to find happiness with someone, without them being his true love? It wouldn't be perfect but it might be something. But yes, he should work on finding a way to break his curse.." She arches a brow, "Gunn and Wesley? Dont think I've met Gunn, as I recall, Wesley was that stuffy british guy..Maybe they're just busy or..I dunno...But you're a pretty girl, I'm sure you'll find someone special."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
"You forget ego. What does it profit a girl to have it proven to her, every time she has sex or does anything else, really, that she's not making him all that happy, she's just a stand in for someone else. How long could you really stay with someone for whom you're only second rate? Wouldn't you want better? Again, think it through." She smiles a little at Wesley, "Well...he's finding himself. It's like every day that goes by, he's less of that stuffy british guy and more grounded in the real world. And Gunn is brave and strong and really nice, but...now gone."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers sighs, "I suppose so. I mean..I've never really found true love myself after Angel left. I'd like to think that Brian is my true love, but..I guess I'm still trying to figure that one out." she draws a deep, shaky breath, feeling almost guilty about that. "You're right, Angel deserves happiness, not second rate with someone else. But he has to realize that on his own, I'm done trying to push him. Anyway..." anyway, Buffy is happy for a change of topic. "Welll...Who knows, maybe one of them or both of 'em will come back some day? Maybe they're working on a case. In the meantime, you're always welcome to hang out here. I guess physics is more your thing, but we could always use a helping hand around here."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
Fred ponders for a moment. "Done trying to push him. Have you ever straight up said to him 'fix that curse'? Have you ever actually told him to go to Dr. Strange, or Zatanna, or whoever? Even Dr. Fate of the Justice League? Have you ever implied there might be hope if he got off his ass? Because...it sounds like you have a boyfriend. It doesn't sound like you're living your best life. ...Of course, before you can push him, we have to find him, and he's nowhere to be found." Which...leads Fred back to that whole totally abandoned feeling she has right about now. "Yeah, I mean, I actually took a new job, I don't know how much it'll help, but I'm hoping I grow by it. Cause, even if I've been abandoned, I still want to help people one way or another."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers frowns some more, staring blankly at the next page of her book. By this time, she's too exhausted to really make much sense of it though. "Huh. I mean...I suppose I haven't really..I was pretty mad at him for a while, and then...I tried to get on with my own life. But I still care about him, he's still a friend, and for the sake of his own happiness, maybe I should have pushed him more. But you're right, we need to find him first, don't we?" she glances back at Fred thoughtfully, "Oh yeah? What kind of job? And Fred, maybe some people have abandonned you, but you're always welcome to come here if you need help or you just wanna talk. I don't mind. And I wont abandon you, I promise."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
Fred says, "Well...SHIELD actually recruited me to their science department. I can make a difference through a global organization now. They'll put my skills to use sooner or later. They've given me projects and everything...I'm also gonna make them put me through their idea of basic training. It's not much, but at least I won't be quite so helpless anymore. I've been blasted, burned alive, bitten...that needs to stop, and I can only make that change through my own actions."

"...Sometimes I don't know if I'll see any of them ever again. Sometimes it feels like not..."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers blinks, "Wow. SHEILD? That's pretty awesome! I mean, I can totally see how you would be a major asset to them with your scientific prowess, your big brain and your awesome inventions! I mean, what kinda salary do they pay you? Must be pretty nice! Congratulations Fred! I sometimes wish I could join a more influential organization myself but I'm not really a big name around anywhere.."

She shrugs, "Then again, being a Slayer was always meant to be a solitary, secret gig I suppose." Of course, Buffy never really wanted to make her slaying duties a full time job, but getting paid to kill vamps would have been nice. "You know, it would definitely help you to get in some self defense training for sure." Buffy does try to comfort Fred, reaching out and patting her gently on the shoulder. "Hang in there, Fred. even if you didn't see them again, I'm sure you'll make new friends and find a new place for yourself. Afterall, nothing is forever.."

Winifred Burkle has posed:
As for paychecks...that is absolutely the upside. "Yeah! I make so much more money then I ever did working for Angel. SHIELD can afford to pay top dollar and they're not shy about doing just that for anyone worth recruiting in the first place. My income is...quadruple what it used to be, and it's all done in the relatively safe confines of SHIELD's base, where it's fairly unlikely anything terrible is going to happen to me." There were exceptions, but...yeah.

"Ya know, being solitary is how all previous Slayers got themselves killed. I can't recommend going and doing likewise. You're the only friend I have left, I don't wanna lose you because you decided the Watcher's Council was right after all. From what I can determine, they basically set Slayers up to eventually fail on purpose, so they'd always be young, naive, and dependent on them."

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers shrugs and chuckles, "Unfortunately the Scoobies have all but vanished. I only have a handful of allies to help me fight vamps, and even then, they have their own lives to live, so it's not like this is a fulltime gig for them. But it's okay..I mean, I'm still trying to figure out what to do with my life when i'm not fighting vamps. I mean, I'm enjoying some of my classes at Gotham U, but like, what can I do when I graduate? I dunno.."
