Penthouse Raid
Date of Scene: 30 January 2020
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Green Arrow gets info from an NYC drug dealer who supplies Starling. Vanessa Carlysle gets caught up in the ensuing police arrest.
Cast of Characters: Copycat, Green Arrow

Copycat has posed:
Days had passed since Vanessa had met the man named Oliver at the diner. Oliver Just, the only name she knew him as. Yet he'd stayed in her thoughts a surprising amount. Which doesn't always help when one has the occupation that Vanessa Carlysle does.

Tonight she'd fielded a call from an escort service that she was listed with. She did not get much work through them, but when she did it tended to be higher paying affairs. And with rent coming due, such a job was going to be a boon.

The elevator of the apartment high rise had let her out into the penthouse. A guard in a jacket waited at the elevator, the strap of an under the shoulder holster visible as the jacket hung open.

He'd frisked Vanessa, and taken her revolver that she'd brought in her purse, the woman having told him about it before he got to searching. Not a problem, he put it aside and sent her on forward with another member of security. It looked like there were at least a half-dozen to Vanessa, and those just the ones she saw. She arrived in the main living area where Yu Phun was waiting for her. One of his men had commented how he was sure they'd have a good time, and had tossed a small brick of drugs at her. Vanessa had caught it, smiling and making some disarming comment indicating if anyone needed drugs then she wasn't doing her job right. If it came down to having use some she would for the job. But it wasn't something she wanted to do.

That had been two and a half hours earlier. Now, Vanessa is in the bathroom, having showered and cleaned, then moving to the mirror to reapply makeup. "He wasn't too bad at least," she says to her reflection softly. "I've been talking to myself in the mirror a lot lately. I hope you keep this all secret," she tells her reflection.

Green Arrow has posed:
It took a few days for Oliver to be prepared. Lots of stalking to do on the comings and goings of those particular members. One of them caught his attention of course, Yu Phun, already healed up from the arrow he was shot with a while back. Though Oliver still hopes it pains him from time to time. He does hate drug dealers..

But finally the night came. In fact he was eager for it, a change from all the business he has been conducting since he arrived in New York. Finally doing some good work.

Diggle stayed as support by the van, info on police activity, or reinforcements that could come to the penthouse. His eyes in the sky so to say.

"I have made my way inside, going up." He is already dressed as the Green Arrow, sneaking into the place, moving through those corridors that are seldom used or reserved to staff. He does like looking over the schematics of a building before going in. Always be prepared. That's how you survive in a super-powered world.

He steps into the service elevator and punches on the top number. Time to go up to the penthouse. Arrows get checked, knives, bow. All seems ready.

Copycat has posed:
Within the bathroom Vanessa works on her makeup, and pauses to send a text to the woman running the escort service. Just a simple hello it sounds like, but the choice of words let her know that everything is ok. "Going smoothly," Vanessa comments to herself.

The various guards had been on alert after Yu Phun was shot with the arrow during his trip to Starling to meet with those he supplies his product to. Though back home in New York, and now safe within the penthouse, they are not nearly as cautious as they had been nearer to the incident.

One walks patrol near the service elevator. Two more patrol along the outside of the roof. One sits beside the main elevator. Another is just around the corner from Yu Phun, able to hear if anything goes wrong. The other men are mostly lounging, eating dinner or watching a basketball game on TV. The Knicks are home against the Bulls tonight.

Green Arrow has posed:
There is that 'Ding' which announces that the service elevator has reached the top floor. How weird, there was no request for room service. Ah well, sometimes parties can get wild ... It makes the guard that was on patrol to be curious though. A pause and then a step in, the automatic rifle primed. Noone inside? Maybe some prankster sending the ---

Oliver may be getting older, but he can still hold himself up to the ceiling, like a bird of prey! Ready to pounce. He does just that when the guard steps in, hitting the guard with a knee against the side of his head that makes him stagger down. A kick and then another punch finishes the job. Silent enough. He glances out of the elevator. So far so good...

Then it's time to make his way further in. He wants Yu Phun, that man has escaped him from Starling, he will interrogate him tonight, oh yes he will.

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa applies some lip gloss. Each man is different in what he prefers, and Vanessa makes an educated guess about the Chinese man in the other room. "He actually has been pretty decent," she says to herself in the mirror. She glances around the swanky decor of the bathroom. "Certainly better than... some others," she says, giving a little shiver and shake of her head as she remembers a certain venture capitalist. Thank goodness for that Frost woman who came to pay him in an unexpected visit that night.

Speaking of unexpected visitors, the other guards haven't noticed the arrival of one. One man walking perimeter yawns and mutters to himself, "Going to need some coffee." At least Yu Phun doesn't require him to walk outside at this time of year. The glass windows around the outside edges meant to give great views of the cityscape allow him to see outside decently enough, and the walkways there are well lit.

Green Arrow has posed:
The guard is dragged aside, just around a corner so as to not get noticed with a cursory glance. But then it's time to move on. Oliver moves quietly, stealthily has he has learned all those years in the island, fighting to survive, evading predators in which many were human... It brings him to a corner that is just beyond the well lit walkway. That will be hard to traverse...

But he waits until the man is walking back, with his back to him. Just enough for him to rush forward. A hit on the back of a knee with his bow, the man drops down on that knee and then Oliver wraps one arm about his neck, aiming to make him sleep. Sloppy perhaps as he cried out in pain before he could get a hold of him.

He's just fading out to sleep when the other guard patrolling comes around the corner, alerted by the noise..

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa finishes up her touchup and stows everything back in her purse. One last check in the mirror of her appearance. Vanessa brings to her face the smile that years ago had to be forced, but now she can summon and remove without a second thought. Bright and warm to where few would ever doubt any sincerity in it. Few but Vanessa.

She walks out to rejoin Yu Phun, moving to take a seat near him on the couch, though not quite right at his side. He's lounging in a robe, the remote in one hand and a tablet in another. He sets the tablet aside as if so Vanessa will not see what it says. "You were a good choice tonight. What was your name again?" Vanessa answers, "Vanessa," having always used her real name, but never her last name.

That's when the guard spots Green Arrow and gives a cry, "Intruder!" he calls out as he pulls out a gun, aiming at the man who is choking out the other guard. He fires once, twice, the sound of the gunshot sending the rest of the penthouse into a flurry of motion.

Vanessa freezes, while Yu Phun gets up and heads for a drawer, digging for a weapons of his own. Meanwhile, the other guards move, some going to converge on the cry, others moving to protect Yu Phun.

Green Arrow has posed:
Sloppy, sloppy, sloppy.

So much time getting this guy down. He would had done it so much faster a few years back, but then again it's not as if his focus has been fully on the game. Struggles, trying to keep his team together. And then Felicity leaving.. Focus!

He frowns, a dodge to one side, then the other. The knocked-out guard is tossed to one side, out of commission (and also out of the way of the bullets), the Arrow making use of his own athleticism to get out of the way of those shots. Of course that his armor helps, as one of the bullets grazes his armor but barely something he feels.

He takes but a moment to get an arrow on his bow, no time aiming and shooting. Just the normal type that pierces. And piercing it does indeed, going through a shoulder on the guard and him being tossed back. He moves in quick before the man recovers, kicking him on the face to get him out and then moves at a pace, careful.

"Diggle, guards were alerted. Keep me posted on the police." He speaks to his mic. One goon is at the door. Shots are heard outside, then a thud. Another one neutralized.

Then it's Oliver's steps that are heard approaching the room leading to Yu Phun's penthouse, ominous.

Copycat has posed:
Diggle's voice comes through Green Arrow's comms. "Roger that." As Green Arrow moves through the penthouse that he's studied the layout of, he approaches a spot that the guards will surely be making a stand. The entrance to the main living area is as wide as four doors, not giving as much cover as they might want, but no doubt there are guards behind the wall on each side. The take turns peeking out, looking for signs of the intruder, their own handguns drawn.

Yu Phun finds a pistol while Vanessa is standing wide-eyed. After the pair of gunshots she moves to duck down behind the couch, but Yu Phun strides over to her and pull her up by her upper arm. "Oh no, you're staying here," he says, holding her like a shield with his gun on her as he watches. He's back in a far corner, won't be quite visible until Green Arrow enters the room, which the two guards are currently covering.

Green Arrow has posed:
Fighting in the dark. A lesson he is glad he learned very fast when in that island. An arrow is shot to where he believes the guards are, but not the normal type of arrow, a smoking one. It fills the corridor, just enough that they do not have vision to Arrow when he approaches at a run. He listens to movements, relying on his senses other than sight to guide him and find the guards. He collides with one, shoulder to chest to toss him back. A stray shot that misses him and then he hits him with the end of his bow. Hard enough to shoot the breath out of him.

Then he ducks an attack from the other that approached, it goes wide, the smoke still keeping him mostly out. A scuffle continues for a bit longer, it heard from within the room, punch, kicks but then a final thud. Silence.

Some smoke is visible coming into the room through the sides of the door but it's slowly starting to dissipate.

One hand holds the handle, a test on the door. Locked. That's fine. He kicks it and the figure of the Green Arrow starts coming out of the smoke, shoulders squared, vengeful. Looking for a particular man.

Copycat has posed:
The radio crackles as Diggle's voice comes over it. "Call to 911 of gunshots at your location. Police are responding. But you have a little while before the nearest units get there. will keep you updated."

The guards are down and Yu Phun is nervous as can be. He remembers the arrow that had to be removed from his body. His gun hand is shaking a bit as Green Arrow moves out of the smoke like an apparition come to life.

"You! You stay back!" he says, his English only slightly accented. "You try anything and the girl gets it!" Yu Phun says, motioning towards the woman he's using as a human shield.

That shield is the woman from the diner. Vanessa. She's dressed to kill. A slinky black dress with cutouts for her cleavage and along both sides. Hair and makeup done to make her even more beautiful than the night Green Arrow met her.

She's smaller than Yu Phun who tops her by quite a few inches. Enough room to take a shot though there's always the chance something goes wrong. Vanessa says to Yu Phun as he holds her, "Hiding behind me? Really? I actually was thinking complimentary things about you earlier."

Green Arrow has posed:
Gloved hand is gripping hard on his bow, eager to have another shot at Yu Phun. The man has been evading him for a while now. And in the meantime his city suffers. The hood turns here and there on the room. His attention is all on Yu Phun, his blue eyes appearing to burn with the intensity of his stare but then ..., he notes the girl. That's a surprise. It throws him back to a few nights back, a diner, a dance. But that was Oliver, not Green Arrow, he has a mission now. Yet he can't help to look at Vanessa.

"What..." His voice is heard, altered by the modulator on his suit but then he stops himself. Wouldn't do to show he knows the girl, to any of them. He takes note of the room, then finally says to Yu Phun. "You can't escape, Yu Phun. Police is already on the way. But give me something and perhaps you won't go to jail with another arrow in you." yes, seems like they have some history already.

Still, he is looking for an opportunity, ready, though not wanting to risk Vanessa's safety without being sure he can take a clean shot.

Copycat has posed:
Yu Phun waves the gun towards Vanessa. "You're nothing but a two-bit vigilante. One who broke into my home and committed assault. Who do you think is going to go to jail?" the Chinese man says towards Green Arrow with a definite sneer in his voice to match the one on his face.

Vanessa seems relatively calm despite what is going on. There's a moment she meets Green Arrows eyes. Then looks to the gun and then back to Green Arrow's eyes and down her body. Down towards her hand which extends three fingers.

Two fingers.

One finger.

Vanessa simultaneously pushes on Yu Phun's arm with the gun, ducks her head to try to get it out of the line of fire, and stomps on his foot with her heel, causing Yu Phun to cry out in pain, distracted during those first split seconds.

Green Arrow has posed:
There is that hood in the way, and the mask, but those eyes do seem blue, striking blue actually when they meet with Vanessa's, the man not seeming to react when called some two-bit vigilante. It's sort of true, specially when he hangs out with the likes of Green Lantern and Superman..., when he was still alive.

"Are you saying you don't have drugs up here with you? Enough to distribute all around New York?"

But his eyes are now down on Vanessa's hand. He seems to understand what she means with it, shown by the way his hand moves just so, imperceptible unless one would be looking for it.

The hit and then the duck is just what he was looking for. An opportunity. One that he takes for when it comes to archery and he gets into that zen mode there isn't a target he misses. The arrow is shot almost instantly, his body a flurry of motion, certainly not supernatural but fast and again Yu Phun gets skewered, on the other shoulder this time. It's just not his day. He starts moving forward, just in case he still tries anything, aiming to get the gun out of his reach.

Copycat has posed:
Yu Phun cries out as the arrow hits his shoulder and he drops the gun. Vanessa elbows him hard in the family jewels, causing her assailant to sag forward over the back of a couch as she moves away from him.

Vanessa takes a moment to straighten her hair and then looks towards Green Arrow as he moves forward and takes the villain in hand. "He's got a brick of drugs in silver metal shell case somewhere but I didn't see where they took it to. Somewhere in that room," she says, motioning towards a door. "And he was looking at his tablet. Had a map with a bunch of colored areas and dots, though I think he locked it," she says, motioning to the tablet that he'd set down when Vanessa came back into the room.

Yu Phun is groaning. "I don't know... know which of you is worse. Bitch." Vanessa stares at him. "You put a gun to my head!"

Diggle comes over the radio. "Police units are nearing the building. You probably have about five minutes."

Green Arrow has posed:
Ufff, the family jewels. There is just that sympathetic look from Arrow when poor Phun gets hit there. It's that guy thing of solidarity. But it only lasts the split of a second. He moves forth, first sliding the gun away with a foot and bringing out zip manacles from a pocket. A nod is given to Vanessa, still a touch surprised at the way she handled herself, and more surprised that he'd meed her here of all places. But the world sometimes works like that ...

"Are you well, miss? Police is nearing the building. You should be fine." He ties Yu Phun's hands without much mercy, just to make sure he won't try anything and will peacefully await for the police.

And then a look for that tablet. He picks it up. "How about you unlock it, Yu? Or I may leave you alone with the lady here for how long the police will take to get up to the penthouse." It's a serious threat. Who knows what Vanessa may do to the man?! And one he may just go ahead with.

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa takes off the shoe that went into his foot. The heel is an impressive one. Pointed enough to not be very pleasant slammed into a body part. "I don't have to use my elbow, you know," she tells Yu Phun, Vanessa waggles the heel in front of his face while the Chinese man is still covering his groin from the pain of said elbow.

"You don't know who you're dealing with. She'll come for you," Yu Phun says to Green Arrow through his grimace. Though after a moment he reaches over and unlocks the tablet. Revealing a map which is distribution within a section of New York City. But it's just the first document.

Diggles voice comes over comms. "They are in the building on their way up to the penthouse in both the main and service elevators. Time to go."

Green Arrow has posed:
That usual dour expression turns a touch amused when Vanessa threatens Phun with the shoe. Even if only for a bit because he then leans over to the chinese man. "But I want her to come for me." this said with that tone of someone that is issuing a challenge. Seems like whoever 'she' is it's becoming personal. "But thank you for your help with the tablet." then he straightens up.

A pause when he listens to Diggle. "Copy that." then his eyes settle on Vanessa, "Police is almost here. Just tell them what happened and it should be fine." he knows a bit about laws, she shouldn't be in too much trouble if she isn't involved with these dealers. Or at least that's what he thinks. And to him she will be safer here than going out with him.

"And I am sorry." The way he says it ..., it's almost as if he's telling her sorry for something more than what just happened here, and the danger in which he brought her into. But then he is walking to the door, leaving out through the fading smoke. Time to go inspect this tablet. Yu Phun should go to prison for a good while.

Copycat has posed:
Vanessa back away from the Chinese man then as the Green Arrow deals with him and. She gives a little nod to the vigilante hero, her expression falling just slightly as if at the thought of dealing with the police on the matter.

The young woman looks over to Green Arrow more fully as he offers the apologetic words. Her sloe, brown eyes look over into the blue eyes hidden behind his facial obscuring costume. "You managed to keep the guy with a gun at my head from shooting me. That he'd put it there in the first place, I think is on him," she tells Green Arrow, giving a shrug and then giving him the kind of smile that might absolve him of any worry he had. Well, if that worry was related to things like tonight that she knows about.

There's the sound of the main elevator chiming. "New York Police! We're entering, announce yourself!" Vanessa glances over to Green Arrow as she slips her shoe back on and then holds her hands up into the air. "I'm in here! I'm unarmed! The armed men are unconscious as far as I know but I'm not positive!" she calls out.

Green Arrow has posed:
The vigilante's gaze stays on the girl for a few moments later. Assessing her. But she should be fine, at least she did just fine handling Phun. Gaze strays to the fallen chinese man for a second and then it's time to go. He makes his way to one of the windows, one hand slipping it open and then he slides one leg over? Is he ..., going to jump? No parachute!

But no, he produces one arrow from his quiver, differently shaped from his normal ones, and shoots towards a nearby building, an uncoiling rope following behind it. Rappel line! And then he disappears from sight..

The police comes in just a few moments later, guns in hand as they take in the room, the unconscious people outside and then approach, "What happened in here?" the young officer asks, looking from Vanessa to Yu Phun, then back.

Copycat has posed:
Diggle comes on over the comms. "I take that whizzing noise to mean you're out of there? I managed to tap into a microphone on a computer in the house. Will play what it picks up for you."

There is nothing to be heard at first, but then the sounds of police barking orders to put hands in the air and don't move. Vanessa's voice can be heard faintly saying, "I'm not moving. I'm not armed. These men had guns and were firing them."

More orders are barked and it's pretty clear that Vanessa is getting handcuffed from some of them. Yu Phun can be heard, "This is my penthouse. A robber with a bow came in here and shot me in the shoulder and left me like this. I think the woman is with them!"

The noises get muffled for a little bit after that, police talking to each other, calling from places in the apartment as they search the place, clearing it one room at a time.

Green Arrow has posed:
The rappel line brings him across to the other building and then it's time to climb back down the outer windows, in the meantime he listening to what is going on. A small frown as he listens in to the events. Didn't exactly go according to what he had thought. He finally reaches the ground.

"This didn't go as I expected. Vanessa wasn't with them." he says to Diggle, starting to walk to the rendezvous point. "We will need to follow this." Vanessa? Seems like he knows the girl that was up there!

The police start going around the place, searching it swiftly. One calls out with a whistle. "Holy...., jackpot. This certainly doesn't look like sugar..." one seems to have found the drug stash.

Copycat has posed:
Yu Phun's voice can be heard about 20 seconds later. "I have not seen that before. Is it something she brought here?" he asks. There's a sound like maybe someone gasped and then a policeman can be heard, "Easy miss, let's not add assault."

"She did assault me!" Yu Phun's accented voice adds. "I tell you, she was working with him. I don't know how much he may have stole. You should release me, I am the victim here!"

The policeman says, "You can tell your story downtown. Alright, lets get them out of here, take them down to booking. And call in the squad to go over the place. This must be $100k worth of drugs. PLENTY of probably cause."

Diggle's voice comes over the comms. "Vanessa? I don't recall that name in the info we had on his operations. Sounds like they caught him with enough to send him away though."

Green Arrow has posed:
"Someone I met here in New York some days ago. I was very surprised to find her up there." Oliver says, his voice reflecting the frown on his face now. He takes a corner towards a darker street, the van where Diggle is not too far now.

"I am going to keep a close look on this regardless. I want to make sure that Yu Phun goes down." Arrow speaks into the comms, "Who do we know here in the legal side of things?" he exhales softly. If this was in Starling it might be a lot simpler to follow-up. In New York ..., not as much influence.., or contacts. But he will manage. He finds himself worried as to what may come to happen to Vanessa. He did say she would be fine with the police.

The police start leading everyone down, time to get booked and onto a cell for the night. Yu Phun is already lining up in his mind all the lawyers that he can call up for this. Yes, he may just get away with it. He was expecting Green Arrow to come down someday, that menace and ..., "Hey, careful with the arm. I was shot there." he grumbles to the officer bringing him down.

Copycat has posed:
Diggle's hesitation before answering is already foreshadowing of the answer. "We really don't have a lot in the way of people tagged into the legal side there. You have a local firm doing some work on that acquisition if I remember right, but don't know that you want that connection made to your business dealings and this. Would be the kind of trail of breadcrumbs someone else could take note of."

A few more seconds. "Hmm. Well, there's plenty of law firms of course. Not like crime avoids New York. Don't really see any I can think of a connection with. Well, ok not really a connection, but there's that firm that deals with superheroes. The one that She-Hulk is at. I'd imagine that might be a place you could get a little extra discretion from at the least."

Green Arrow has posed:
"No, getting directly involved with one of Oliver's firms would just bring us problems, as we know." And he reaches the van, opening the door and stepping inside. Oliver finally takes note on the pain on his side, still having caught a bullet on his armor. Doesn't mean it won't hurt. He sighs, starting to unstrap out of his armor. "Let's go."

"She-Hulk? That may work, it won't be a secret I was up there, considering how Yu Phun was spouting out about being shot. I can set it up through one of my funds and have her be the front. Working with superheroes I imagine she is very discreet."

Copycat has posed:
Diggle nods to Green Arrow. "Sounds like a plan. You're going to tell me if she's everything they say. I mean, if you get to see the green version," he adds with a laugh. He puts the van in gear and pulls out into traffic...

The cop puts the car into gear and pulls out into traffic. Vanessa Carlysle sits in the back seat, hands cuffed behind herself. This isn't her first time in a police car. But she knows this time it's different. She leans over against the window, forehead resting on the glass as the car navigates the city streets.

"When we get you to the station and get you booked you can call someone. You know the drill," he tells her, the cop making assumptions based on her attire probably, rather than from personal familiarity. Vanessa doesn't respond, just thinks of those she could call. None of the girls around her would be much help. There's April. But she had an assignment, said she'd like be incommunicado. Which mean, public defender.

"There's no on to call," Vanessa answers quietly, resting her head against the back of the seat and closing her eyes. It was going to be a long night.
