Noodly Date Night
Date of Scene: 08 February 2020
Location: Thai May Shu, Nantwich, Gotham
Synopsis: Tim Drake and Phoebe Beacon attend to some noodley consumption, have a nice talk about meandering topics.
Cast of Characters: Sparrowhawk, Red Robin

Sparrowhawk has posed:
Thai May Shu is a stupidly trendy restaurant specializing in Thai food and 'fusion Asian', with a semi-kitschy blend of Art Nuevo and traditional Generic Asian decor, with happy fat Buddhas sitting and slurping bowls of noodles and rice beneath the shade of twisting, happy, pastel-colored trees with birds and flowers and clouds in lovely, soft shades all around. Its booths are deep an the walls between them high, its tables clean (unless recently abandoned by some college student) and with its proximity to Gotham University, it is frequented, quite often, by the student population for its combonation discount noodle nights, Fried Rice Hapy hours, and after-11 discounted fried foods.

Today, Phoebe was wearing a nicer blue shirt, black jeans and a pair of modest silver earrings, with low, black heels, her jacket and bag by her side. There's a glass of water with lime and fresh sweet basil in it, very fancy.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake showed up maybe a little early, but seems the lady beat him to it. He is wearing black jeans as well, but a red button up shirt. Before going in he looks in the places door checking his hair, and then will walk in looking around for a place to seat and seeing Phoebe already here he will head over to her, and smile in greeting "Hey there, hope I aint late."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"You're not late -- you're actualy ten minuteish early..." she gives a small laugh, rubbing the back of her neck a moment as she gives him a grin, and motions to the seat in the booth accross from her.

"... I admittedly wasn't sure if you would come." Phoebe admits quietly, her shoulders drawing up as she gives a shrug. "I'm not exaaactly the 'ideal girl' for wealthy socialite stuff, and it' a bit weird to be on a date in the first place."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake 's brow raises and says "You are a lovely girl, fun to talk to, care about your community, what more could a guy ask for from a girl to be out with. And I am sure you have guys asking you out all the time.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I'm also..." she trails off a moment, then gives a small, embarrased sound. "This is actually my first date. I didn't really date in highschool." she admits, blushing a little bit as she leans her head back, looking at the ceiling.

"I guess some guys think I'm intimidating, or I just don't... click with them enough."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles looking at her from across the table, and says "Their loss then." He grins a bit and says "Were you tossing them around, when they tried to keep you from falling?" He does not seem upset, seeming to have found it humorous

Sparrowhawk has posed:
    Phoebe gives a slight grin.

"No, no, but a lot of them knew I was in theater or martial arts, so maybe that was intimidating, or a put-off... I dunno." she lies, unconvincingly, and gives a little puff of breath out.

"... it's more that I didn't click with a lot of guys. I could be friends, but there wasn't kind of an attraction... so this is all new territory for me."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles a bit more and will reach over to take her hand and says "I find you attractive, and like talking with you as well. Have been hoping to get to know you better." Once the waitress comes over he orders a diet soda, waiting for her to order.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Hello, your ususal?" the waitress asks Phoebe, who blushes a moment and says "ah... sure?"

She gives a nod -- apparently Phoebe is a common fixture here, and she turns to Tim and gives a charming smile, looking the lad up and down. "And for you?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake hmms, and says "Make it the same as hers, I am willing to give it a try." He smiles back to the waitress, and looks over to Phobe "So what we having?" He asks grinning.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
The waitress looks at Tim, and looks at Phoebe, and then goes: "Well. At least you shan't suffer in solitude." she jokes, and turns away.

Phoebe gives a wry little grin, and states:

"I picked up a love of spicy food from my dad, hope you don't mind mushrooms..." she trails off a moment, and folds her hands on the top of the table as she breathes out.

"So, what do you do for fun?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "I think I can handle it, and mushrooms are cool." He grins and says "I'm a bit of a nerd to be honest, cheesey movies, electronics. Working on my collection of superhero memorabilia. I do martial arts as well, so I don't totaly nerd out."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Aaah, so my Orange Robin cookies were more than simply eye-catching." she gives a grin, and Phoebe leans back, her dark eyes settling on Tim. "What's your favorite cheesy movie? Mel Brook movies?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake hmms and says "He has a strong calling for sure. I would have to put Young Frankenstein up there for sure. If I am going for something more current would probably have to go with my guilty pleasure. Tucker and Dale vs evil.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I'm more of a Spaceballs, Producers type of a girl. Men in Tights... but I've always had a fondness for superheroes. I mean, I grew up in Gotham. I've seen people threaten to feed other kids to the Batman."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "I have a few pieces from him, one of my first pieces I got as a piece of cape that us supposed to be his. No real way to check, but he was in a fight near where I found it, when I went back looking at the police blotter for the previous couple days.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Well, I mean there's tons of people who claim to have met him -- or the other crime fighters. Someone said they all have fangs and eyes that glow in the dark, someone else said there's no 'there' there, that he's just a suit and a scary cape, and all the 'boy wonders' are ghosts of kids he's eaten. Seriously... some gradeschool level rumormilling goes on about them!" Phoebe laughs.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "To be honest, probably for the best. the less people know for sure, the more crooks fear him. I hear they are a superstitious and cowardly lot." He grins at her, and says "So, who is your favorite?"

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Why do you ask? Sizing me up for T-shirts?" Phoebe jokes, and she gives a shrug. "I don't think I could play favorites with the superheroes... I mean, there's so many of them. They all help in their own way, I suppose even in their way they bring hope back to the city, even if they do so in a way that scares others... but you know, when the buildings collapsed, they were there helping."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods, and says "Most of the heroes do seem to come out when there is need for more than just beating up the bad guys. Not all, but most do. I heard people even came from out of town to help. So what do you do for fun?

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Ah, mostly gardening, really. I'm kind of a homebody, between aikido and gardening there's just enough time for reading and school and even, on occasion, sleep." Phoebe gives a grin. "From what I remember, you're a bit of a night owl, right?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "Can be at times, yea. I have to go to Japan now and again for work, so I try to keep myself, so i can switch to their time frame if need be. You more a morning person?"

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"That... just seems to odd to me, you're what, ninetween, twenty, and you're already working with Japanese markets? Phoebe inquires. Tim's diet is brought to him, with a bottle and glass with ice and a lemongrass straw, along with a plate of little 'pallet cleanser' items -- lightly pickled soy cucumbers, pickled ginger, a sprig of mint leaves.

"I'm more of a night person myself. I can be a bit of a bear in the morning, but at night I tend to feel a bit more alive." she gives a small grin, "... or maybe it's just that the sun rises up right over my bed and I like dozing off in the light, like a cat, who knows?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods, and says "Well, when Mr Wayne adopted me, I was around helping with things, and he felt I had shown a strong talent working in R&D, and then the fact that I am now technically a Wayne it gives the over seas markets a bit of security when someone named Wayne walks in.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Heh, another thing we got in common." she states gently, stirring her drink. She gives a slight smile. "So... if you're a Wayne, and you've got Wayne money, why don't you go to like, MIT, or Carnigie-Mellon, or UCal? Why stay in Gotham?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake says, "Well the Drake family has been in Gotham a long time, as well of course the Waynes as well. Gotham is my home, I plan on living here, I have a nice place set up trying to help the neighborhood and work here, so think it is good to educate me too."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I guess... as someone who never left the city because it'd be hard to go anywhere, the idea of just staying when you can leave is paradoxical to acknowledging that the city needs people who care about it *to* stay." Phoebe states -- and then their noodles arrive.

The meals are hot, and smell spicy. There are mushrooms through-out the noodle broth, two halves of a soft-boiled, marinated egg an a sheet of dried seaweed, along with what looks like wood ear mushrooms, fresh basil and wilted spinach and bean sprouts.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake looks it over and leans in to smell the food. He hmms, and says "It looks pretty good, so how did you find this place and this?" He will grin a bit and waits letting her try it first.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
She's taken up chopsticks, and stirs some of that egg yolk into the broth.

"Well... I go to the university on a pretty much daily basis, and this place has daily special Thai Noodles and fried rice. Great place when I'm a little light on cash." she jokes.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods, and says "Always a good thing, there have been some times, I was there, so I understand how it is." He will stir it, and after a moment gets himself a bite of noodles with the proper slurping as he gets a good taste.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
It's spicy. That kind of sweet spiciness that builds up and tickles at your nose until you realize that they forgot to give you 'American' five and gave you Thai Five.

    Very Spicy!

However, Phoebe is enjoying it immensely, slurping way on her noodles happily. Mmm. noodles.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake could probably eat it all without showing any reactions. He will stop after a moment and does a bit of breathing over his tongue, "It has a bit of heat." He smiles a bit at her taking a sip of his water after a moment. He smiles "Well this tells me you are a hottie for sure." He teases.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
Phoebe gives a slight snort through her nose, which ends up etting a little bit of the spicy broth through her nose, which ends up with her covering her lower face and coughing slightly as she laughs.

"All right, so you're just like, a big dork, I think I can work with that for a second date sometime." she laughs, attempting to keep her noodles out of her nose!

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles at her, and says "Maybe a movie sometime." He will munch a bit more of his noodles, and after about half of it, he will pause for a bit more, and smiles at her "Have you ever got into tai chi?"

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Mrmm?" Phoebe asks, a mouth full of noodles hanging a moment before she slurps it up and swallows. "T-Tai Chi? Ah, never had the chance, really to get into it. I know it used to be pretty obscure before it got turned into not-Yoga." she replies.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake says, "Maybe we can hit one sometime. I have taken to going to a couple in central park when I have to go to New york, and it can be a rather nice meditation work out."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Isn't... that just basically running through kata?" Phoebe asks, looking surprised. "I mean, some of the forms to aikido and tai chi look similar, in fact, but it's different in the intent of the art. And age of the art, really. Unless you count reform Tai Chi and remember, I've literally never left Gotham."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "There is an energy when you do it in a group or with another person, it is more about working as a group at least for me. It is a bit odd perhaps, but you go through the motions and the slowness of it, brings another aspect, it gets you see the moves in different ways.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"So is that your martial art of choice then? Tai Chi?" Phoebe questions out of curiosity, stirring the noodles and plucking bean sprouts out one by one to nomf them.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake makes a so motion and says "A bit of it and Kung -fu are my main ones with a little karate when younger. I know it is not the best bet, but when I find something I enjoy I try to a way to work a version into my own routine.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Nah, I think you've got the right of it, Tim. If you learn from someone else, you take what works and incorperate it in. Martial arts aren't this rigid thing, they grow, and split, and get interpreted a thousand different ways. Admitedly, since I study a relatively newer martial art... mine hasn't had so long to grow yet." she jokes.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods, a bit and says "When are you planning on working out the next time?" He will as, as he finishes his food. He eats at a decent pace as is supposed to be ate. He smiles a bit at her as they are channting.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Ah, maybe tomorrow night. I also have an area set up in my basement for training, but it's where the laundry is..." she laughs. "Nothing is worse than going through forms and then WHUMP! Hit the dryer!"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "Well maybe we could work out at my place a bit, show one another a bit of what we have, maybe learn a bit from one anothr?

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Ah... that... sounds interesting, but aren't you afraid of breaking furniture?" she questions, her eyes drawing up in curiosity. Phoebe stirs her broth, then grabs the spoon poking at some of the mushrooms.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles a bit and says "I have a room set aside for working out, we won't break anything and even have pads on the floor so not to get hurt.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Are you /that/ eager to be thrown around by a girl again?" Phoebe asks with a little laugh, and she points her spoon at Tim a moment. "Glutton for punishment?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "Maybe I want to throw you around for revenge?" He grins a bit at her, and says "Actually, more am curious to see how much of a bad ass you are.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Not very much of one, I mean my hobbies are gardening, reading, and practicing a non-leathal martial art and I want to work in a museum when I grow up, probably hanging out either with some mildly famous dead people or in charge of some pottary shards. I'm the exact opposite of a badass." Phoebe protests with humour.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake shakes his head, and says "Na, attractive and tosses guys around think that counts." He grins at her, and smiles "You ever tried bansi?"

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Bonsai? I do. I kinda lump it into gardening. My dad picked it up for a while as away to relax, but I find it's really quite zen to take care of the trees and encourage them into idealized shapes. Do you practice bonsai?" she inquires, her eyebrows rising up

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake says, "I have wanted to but never really been very good at it, I don't think I have a green thumb, I think I would have more luck making a robotic tree."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Ooh, robotic trees might be interesting. Give them solar panel leaves and start planting them on rooftops and in parking lots to provide shade and power!" she gives a bright grin, Phoebe leaning back a moment as she regards Tim with a slight smile.

"You are weirdly one of the most normal guys I've met."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake chuckles a bit and says "Well, I think thats a compliment?" He grins a bit more, and finishes his food, and says "So, do you have plans for after this?"

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"IT is, kinda?" Phoebe gives a small laugh, "I mean, this /is/ Gotham. Normal seems to be surprisingly lacking." she jokes, brushing her hands off a moment before she blushes. "Ah... no, I don't. Like I said... I didn't expect you to actually show up." she admits.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake will reach to take her hands, and says "Phoebe, any guy who would stand you up, is rather dumb, and I pride myself on being a smart guy." He offers her a grin "Want to go for a walk somewhere?

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Yeah, but I think a lot of guys who would try to date me are pretty dumb too, but not for the same reasons." she replies quietly, and then glances around, and reaches for her wallet. "Sure, just let me grab the bill and we can go."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake looks to her, and says "Ok, lets get this out of the way." He says to her "You were saying you have to watch funds now and again. I don't have to. As long as it is a regular date type thing will you please let me pay for it, if it is something special, that would not do on a normal date and you want to pay good with it. I want to spend time with you, but don't want to make things harder on you."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I wouldn't dream of making a guy /I/ asked out pay for the meal. Equality is key. Besides, how many times will I get to boast I paid for a Wayne's meal?" she asks incredulously, "Only ever once!"

And then, sheepishly, she pulls out a pair of loyalty cards. They're full.

"... besides... I eat here an awful lot on the daily specials." she gives a little bit of an embarrssed smile. "So it's kinda just your drink."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles and says "Ok, this time, but from now, on I am going to be the one to ask you out." He does not seem to be trying to flaunt the money more concerned with her, and her having enough for herself.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"We'll see about that, Tim." Phoebe states, and she hops up to grab the tab, taking cash out of her wallet along with the two loyalty cards, absent-mindedly leaving her wallet on the table.

Another college student walks by, and attempts to casually steal the wallet, trying to be real cool about lifting it off the table.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake 's hand snakes out grabbing the student's wrist. He puts digs his thumb into the pressure point to cause them to release the wallet into Tim's hand. He wants to do more but catches himself "Out and don't come back." Is all he says to the wood be thief, as he moves to put the wallet back to where it was.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Hrk--" the would-be snatcher replies, turning and giving a look to Tim, and then he drops the wallet -- decorated with embroidered daisies -- back to the table, turns, and makes a swift exit from the noodle shop.

Phoebe returns a moment later, and she embarrassedly grabs at her wallet.

"Oh jeez... I've gotta stop leaving this thing around places." she states, tucking it into her bag and reaching for her jacket.

"Got a place in mind that you wanna walk to?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods a bit and says "Yea, need to keep an eye on that, someone could some along and try to pick it up." He will stand and names a local park area, one of the safer ones in Gotham, does not mean totally safe, but less chance of Killer Croc coming out of the bushes.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
Less chance, but not exactly zero. There is a quiet sound from Phoebe as she gives a nod, and she zips up her jacket, stuffing her hands in her pockets a moment, her jacket over her little purse -- very smart and very cautious.

    "All right, ready?"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake nods and will move to walk close beside her. He does the classic making sure he is on the outside near the street as they walk. "Is there something else you would enjoy doing?" He will ask. He does not put an around here at least not yet but stays close enough he could.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"Rather than taking a slightly dangerous walk through the Gotham night with you?" Phoebe asks, as if scandalized. "I suppose maybe possessing the winning lottery ticket so that I can continue to pay for our theoretical future dates? Finding other tall handsome guys to throw around? I dunno, world is full of opportunities, Tim!"

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake chuckles a bit, and says "5, 21, 13,7,4" He grins and continues to walk "The problem is I have no clue what day in the next century they are for." A grin at her, and says "We could head to the botanical gardens, if you would like think they are still open for a while."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I'm going to laugh if those end up being this week's numbers." Phoebe states wryly, and she smiles as they walk. They draw closer to the park, and she gives a soft h um.

"Oh, hey they used to have the best playground at this park when I was a kid." she reflects. "Dad would take me here all the time when he was off from work to let me burn off energy."

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake says, "Well, we ca go check it out, see if it is still there, maybe run around and burn off some energy. I could maybe push ya in the swing if they have one." He grins at her. He does move just a bit more before he reaches to take her hand."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
This time, she lets Tim hold her hand. Giving a slight smile as she rubs the back of her head with her free hand, looking a little embarrassed.

"So.. we're on our way to becomming a thing, huh?" she asks as they walk, and she leads him to the playground.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake smiles a bit and says "Well at least on the path to see if we want to be a thing. I like you walking and talking and the time we have spent together so far."

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"I don't know if I can handle that kind of fame. Dating Tim Drake-Wayne, global jetsetter, brilliant genius -- you're not secretly like, working for some evil manufacturing business, are you, that I'll have to *dramatically* act as turning point fodder?" she jokes, walking through a copse of trees, snow crunching underfoot.

An more snow crunching than should be -- at least four people are following the two.

Red Robin has posed:
Tim Drake will frown a bit as he hears the extra crunching. He will try to angle them towards the more lighted areas, and places where they are less likely to get jumped. He forces a bit of a smile, not letting on he has noticed anything yet. "Na we try to be the good manufacturers making things that help people, and lots of cool high tech dohickies.

Sparrowhawk has posed:
"High tech dohickies, hm? Is that the technical term for it, like widgit and dongle?" she grins, and pauses a moment to appreciate some art.

The four pairs of footsteps continue to catch up --

Turns out to be a pair of street dogs, one pauses as it regards the humans, gives a bark, and then carries on its way.
