Date of Scene: 09 February 2020
Location: Breakstone, Westchester County
Synopsis: Shannon checks in with Poseidon to explain the matter of the explosives in the water and her injuries. Despite having never once mentioned the school to him, he nevertheless makes the request to speak with the teachers there. Time to take this one right to the top, and have a word with Professor Xavier!
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Poseidon

Nightingale has posed:
It had been a couple weeks in total since the training patrol that had ended with Shannon in medical with broken wings, broken ribs, and a very nasty egg on the back of her head. With time, proper medical care, and the intervention of another healer, she was back on her feet, but still was wary of poking her nose out often beyond the safe boundaries of home for about another week after her recovery.

But she couldn't stay cooped up forever.

So she bundled up against the bitter chill in her favorite jeans, caramel suede boots, wine-colored tunic sweater, caramel velveteen parka, and her red-and-white striped knit hat, and headed out to the little brook in the woods. She did, of course, have her incense holder, a stick of her favorite 'ocean breeze' scented incense, and something to light it with.

The usual little flat rock that serves as an altar by the brook is unfortunately covered with snow, but with a bit of digging around, she finds it and sets up the incense holder, lighting the offering. Even if there was no answer, perhaps at least the God of the seas would know she was alright....

Poseidon has posed:
Someone not versed in the magical arts wouldn't believe what a scrying spell could do, and Poseidon is alerted in the exact moment Shannon sets foot in the glade that she is using as a shrine of sorts. Fortunately the god of the seas wasn't doing anything in particular, just supervising the unloading of a ship in his human guise. And so, as soon as he notices Shannon, or at least as soon as his spell notices shannon and alerts him, he shouts to the men operating the crane "well, keep going, you there! I have to deal with some things..." and he turns, walking behind a crate to then disappear, reappearing quietly already sitting on the rock that they shaped like a bench in the past, the snow falling away from it as the god appears dressed in his armor. "I think I want to have a word with your teachers" he states as a greeting, announcing his presence with those words.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon actually winces a bit at those words, her wings furling about her briefly like a snowy, feathery shield. How had he even found out about the school? Somehow he knew, though, but still, for her own part she would not mention it openly. "Please, if you must be angry with anyone, it was my own foolishness that resulted in my being hurt. Though I'm afraid you may be even less pleased when you hear the rest of the incident." Oh yes. She'd known this day was coming, but if she couldn't own up to her mistakes now, what good would she be later?

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon shakes his head, placing his hands calmly on his knees "why should I be angry with anyone?" he states, but looks at shannon "but I'll be listening to the rest of the incident, if you want to share that with me..." he adds, "as for my wanting to talk with the teachers, it's not because of me being angry, but because next time I want the freedom to come in there and at least try to heal you should your conditions, require it..."

Nightingale has posed:
Sighing lightly, Shannon pinches the bridge of her nose. "Each time I've been hurt, my ability to recover has become stronger. Though... how would you know where I was, when I've never even spoken of 'home' other than as such?" Slowly, her wings unfurl, and she takes a few deep breaths, squaring her shoulders.

"It wasn't too terribly far from where I grew up, actually. Two of my friends and I were out on patrol in the area, and a ship out on the water was in a bad way, being hijacked. We took care of the brigands, but there were explosives planted roughly admidships."

Here, she actually flinches, recounting the memory. "I was able to dislodge them and fly them out over the water. But no sooner did they hit the water than someone set them off remotely, and I was knocked back to the ship. Landed very badly, breaking both wings, some ribs, and winding up with a very nasty egg on the back of my head."

She smiles apologetically. "The ship and her crew were saved, but I am sorry that it had to be by dropping the explosives on your doorstep."

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon tilts his head, looking at Shannon like she just asked how do you know water is wet? "Shannon I may not be Athena, she knows pretty much everything without the need to learn it, but I am past Zeus himself the most adept at magic between the olympians... How do you think I would know where you are?" he extends his right hand, palm upwards, and a circle of light slowly appears on it. Soon, the circle becomes a mirror, and in that, is visible the image of Poseidon and Shanno, seen from above, in their current location "but anyways go on..."
He quietly listens to what she tells him of the accident, nodding slightly "no worries, noone was hurt in the sea by those explosives, actually. And I'm glad you managed to complete your task, there's no reason for me to be angry or displeased."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon peers in fascination at the scrying mirror of light, reaching out for a moment as if to touch it. However, she draws her hand back, reluctant to mess about with things she did not fully understand. "I wasn't alone. My friends did equally as much, if not more, than I did to ensure the safety of ship and crew. If I'd have had any sense about me, I'd have tried to find another way to get rid of those explosives, and let them help. But there was just no time. The only thing I could think of was to get rid of the things."

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon closes his hand, letting the mirror vanish as suddenly as it appeared, then keeps listening. "that was not such a bad idea, it worked, so it's good. No need to justify yourself, and if someone didn't detonate from afar you would've been safe, even, so..." he shrugs

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon breathes a sigh of relief, her wings relaxing. They seem to move alright, unfurling and extending themselves as they always have. "At least I'll be able to get back to work tonight. No doubt folks there have been worried as well."

Smiling some, she unzips her coat a little bit, pulling out a red thermos. When the top is open and its contents poured out into the cap cup, the smell tells it all--hot cocoa! The cup is offered to Poseidon. "No way could I come out here without a treat to share."

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon chuckles a bit, as he extends his hand to accept the cup, nodding in gratitude "thank you..." he states, then brings the cup to his lips, taking a sip and nodding in approval "humans alwayssurprise me with how they manage to make good things without access to ambrosia..."

Nightingale has posed:
A silvery giggle bubbles up from within the winged girl, and she grins at Poseidon. "Most of us will never know what ambrosia tastes like. But I like to imagine that chocolate is a pretty close second." With the certainty that he is not furious, her mood has definitely improved; this was one talk she had not looked forward to at all, but knew was necessary. "With all this other stuff out of the way, how have you been? Hopefully I didn't pull you away from anything?"

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon sips the cocoa, and even takes a couple of seconds to actually think about the answer to the girl's question "I've been allright, and no, you didn't... I was just supervising the loading and unloading process of a cargo vessel, nothing they can't do on their own..." he states, perhaps hinting that he has a life upstairs too, not only underwater!

Nightingale has posed:
It was no surprise to Shannon that he had a life above the waves as well as below. After all, it wasn't by the water that the two had met, but in the park in Salem Center. "I love the winter and the good times with friends it brings, but I'll be glad to see summer. Might actually be able to get out to the ocean proper then." Might? There was no 'might' about it.

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon nods again with a small smile "oh, it's actually summer, somewhere! There are..." he closes his eyes for a moment, seeking a connection to the oceans "hm, a lot of people swimming even now..." he states, opening his eyes again "but well, yes, in summer, is when i have to work a lot..."

Nightingale has posed:
"Then if it's always summer somewhere, the work never ends. It makes me even more grateful that you're able to visit when you do." The young mutant's smile is warm, though her backside is cold from the little stone bench. "This is going to sound very strange coming from me, but... please, try to take a little time for you, too, when you can?"

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon widens his eyes, as if extremely amused by it "you? of all people, tell me that?" he states, actually chuckling in full amusement "well Shannon, I take a lot of time for myself, don't worry... It's not like I have to supervise it all, that's what delegating tasks is for... I say it plenty of times and now aday I mostly mean it, the oceans rule themselves, sometimes I don't even know what I stick around for..."

Nightingale has posed:
"Because the world would be a darker place without you." Shannon just smiles and gives the sea God a hug, that and the cocoa the only offerings she really has at the moment. But in the end, perhaps that's all that was needed. "And yes, me of all people. The one who admits to taking enough care of others that she takes less of herself."

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon returns the hug with one arm, since the other is used to hold the cup! But smiles "well, now that's pure and simple flattery..." he states, taking a sip of cocoa "and ok, then, start doing that yourself and I will follow your example!" he states plainly

Nightingale has posed:
A god, following the example of a mortal? Now that was a recipe for trouble if there ever was one! Shaking her head, Shannon just laughs, her eyes twinkling and the corners of her mouth tugging upwards in a smile. "I'm better off following your example. Plus, you remind me to take care of myself, the way you set up that sewing box you gave me." Yeah, she hadn't forgotten the box's little quirks, that were essentially a reminder to take a break, and to treat herself once in a while.

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon grins "yeah well sometimes I'm forced to do some workarounds on the blessings I give or you mortals will turn into a pile of dead heroes and useless sacrifices..." he shrugs, reaching to Shannon to ruffle her hair with his free hand "and now, I am afraid I do have to return soon to my duties, before someone makes a disaster"

Nightingale has posed:
"And you wonder why you stick around! You just answered your own question!" Chuckling, Shannon offers one more hug, accepting the cup back to take with her to be rinsed out. As she gets up, she giggles, ruffling her wings as she steps back. "Still say I'm not a hero!" Oh-ho, someone's asking for trouble!

Poseidon has posed:
Poseidon stands up as well, casting a mischievous grin at Shannon "maybe I was counting you in the pile of useless sacrifices!" he states, and chuckles immediately after "but I won't argue, trying to neutralize explosives like that is soooo not heroic... Really, who wouldn't do such a thing? And while you reflect on the truth of that" he says "I will go do my chores... Be well, Shannon, and tell one of your school's representatives I want to visit someday, I task you with that." and, that said, he just vanishes, teleporting back under that crate in an arbour, somewhere, in the guise of his mortal persona.

Nightingale has posed:
Ooo boy. This was not going to be very easy. Never once had Shannon mentioned the school openly to outsiders; only once had she even alluded to it, but that had been to two known allies. Pursing her lips slightly, she just shrugged. There was no help for it. For this one, she was going to go right to the top, and hope for the best.

She'd have to have a word with the Professor.

"Be well also, and hopefully we'll meet again soon!" The incense has burned itself out, with only a hint of ash in the holder to point to its prior existence. Picking up what she brought in with her, she leaves the area as it was found, heading for home, with a new task laid before her.
