Airport Drop Off
Date of Scene: 09 February 2020
Location: JFK International Airport
Synopsis: Karrin gives Nick a ride to the airport. There is awkward conversation.
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Karrin Murphy

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
While technically Sunday, the 'day' portion of the title is in question. The sun's aura is only giving the slightest of hints of the impeding arrival in the horizon and the street lamps still have a monopoly on most of the light provision.

It's also pretty darn cold out. Frost is readily apparent on parked cars and any unfortunate souls walking outside would easily be able to see their breath.

With it being so cold and outside of the normal hours of operation for the subway, Nick had to find alternative means to get to the airport. Being he's still a bit angry at the most likely candidates, Nick called up Karrin for the favor. And so now he sits in the passenger seat of the Saturn. Seat upright but the tired looking musician looking like he's still about to fall asleep snuggled up into his jacket and knitcap. A tightly packed backpack rests in the back seat as the trunk is already occupied by a lot of stuffed animals. "...Thanks."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
And candy bars, too. Karrin's got the trunk full of useful things, and she's driving the streets carefully. Slowly, and carefully. Which is to say five below the speed limit. She's tempted to slip a light and a siren on to cut through trafic. But no.

"So, where you off to today?" she asks, using 'today' loosely. She's asking that as she's getting back in the car having stopped for takeout coffee and breakfast. It's the buttcrack of dawn. Great. Murph should be sleeping, but noooo.

She's hungover and oddly sociable, coffee helps. The smell of breakfast sandwiches, too. Oh those are good. She's got one each for them. And a /lot/ of questions, too. hey. She's a cop. it's normal.

Watching the traffic as she rejoins the street, driving them in the throes of New York City traffic, Murph sighs and lays on the horn. Typical damn New York cab driver cutting lanes. Okay, it was at a snail's pace but still. C'mon. What's with the 24/7 cab drivers being asses in the city?

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick's eyes open after an extended blink, head turning to look out the window at the stopped scenery. He had not stepped outside of the car. And quite honestly it hadn't even processed that they weren't moving. Good thing no one tried to carjack the vehicle.

"Vancouver today." Nick replies, looking back over to Karrin. He is not hungover but he's been feeling pretty tired lately, a lot of it his doing. Power usage is not very friendly to his waking energy levels and he's found that while Raphael's flask is turning out to be a helpful spell for his friends, its... not that fun for him afterwards.

The eyes blinks shut again as the car starts rocking him back into a lull. Which is short lived as the horn comes on. The musician's eyes widen.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Frigging cab drivers" Karrin says with a groan. She's ready to just pull out the light and siren to get through traffic. She doubts it'd be a legitimate use of police procedure. Instead....Karrin is swearing and praying for God to smite all the cab drivers in their way. Finally the car's moving, and Murph's jerking it around to get away from the cab drivers. Finally, finally getting out of the cluttered streets she listens full of taxis, and early morning commters, Karrin settles into a steady pace covering the miles to the airport. While they're driving, she's talking. "Vancouver, music huh?" she asks with a smile, one eye on the road.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Feeling a bit more awake after the horn, Nick rolls his head to look towards Karrin as she gets her swear on, "List for the confessional too short this week, eh Karrin?"

The growing whiskers upon Nick's face shifts as he gives a tired chuckle, turning his head to glance out the window. The second sandwich that Murphy brought is ignored. Fatigue making the purpose of its presence lost upon the tired performer.

"Not music this time." Nick answers, glancing to a cabbie displaying his New York pride with the exentension of a certain digit towards the heavens. "Filming for a mini-series."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph gestutres behind her, there's a cop car gearing up to pull the cab driver over. Take that, cabbies. "I'm using my car as a four tired confessional. C'mon. I get to miss it because I'm driving back from the airport. Father is going to hate me, but I can't do much if I'm stuck in traffic, right?" she jokes. Shaking her head she smiles. "Okay, see, I'm fairly sure" Karrin admits watching Nick. "You'll do good. Just don't annoy the Canadians, yeah?" she jibes with a grin

Oh Murph got jokes. She's also o t genuine concern for Nick. And a trunk full of stuffed animals. She guns it around a minivan that's being driven by some Bible preacher and adorned with fish stickers, and cross bumper stickers. Karrin checks in the mirror and merges, then nods, loking amused.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Eh. They offer more than one mass." Nick replies, seemingly not registering Karrin's comments as a joke. "And I doubt he's going to hate you."

He gives the slightest of smirks as the expression on the cabbie's face changes when the lights go on. Sweet sweet karma. Ever so beautiful even on the bleariest of days.

"I'll be nice." Nick promises, "I'm always nice when on the clock."

"You guys going to behave while I'm gone?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Sarcasm, Nick" Murph says with the tone she uses on most of her colleagues she has to explain things to, but there's humor. She grins, "Okay, see, I'll behave. You won't read about me making the news"

Mostly since Murph isn't that sorta cop, any. she looks amused, looking to Nick. "Gotta love karma, eh?" she adds with a grin.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Yes. Indeeeeed." Nick agrees as the Saturn continues on while the cab slows to a halt. A glance shifts over to the side mirror to watch the remainder of the show before the angling of the car makes the visual impossible.

"Rarely a cop around when you need one- makes the times they are a bit more satisfying."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Nick's riding with a cop. And that's the irony of things. There's one literally less than a foot away. Sure, she's not on the clock, but...still...

"Oh yeah I'll behave. So"

Murphy's quiet, focusing on traffic as she's jockeying for position and heading slowly toward JFK. Slowly by freeway speeds. Thanks, cone zones, potholes and idiots

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick stands by his statement. Considering that Karrin's aware of his situation, there's no need to voice justification.

Growing quiet as he continues looking out the window. The smell of the second untouched sandwich finally gets to him, causing for him to look at it accusingly.

"You hash things out with Buffy?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Not yet, nah" Murph shrugs looking bored at the traffic. It's bugging her, so Murph listens. "Nah not yet. Gotta speak to Buffy really on that and pray Harry doesn't kick my ass forr what I say when I've had a few of mac's drinks" she says with a shrug. "Hopefully I'm not six or seven feet under, y'know?" Murph asks sounding a little worried. Spotting a gapp in traffic, she guns it.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
The musican's hand clenches upon the handle of the car door as his head bops into the headrest behind him. He frowns at Karrin's words. "He's not that bad is he?" Nick asks, tone growing concerned.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Harry? No, no. Just I don't want to anger him. he's got a habit of burning things down if he gets too unhappy or magic goes funky on him" Karrin offers with a sigh. "It's just....ya know. I tend to run my mouth when drunk, that's all" she says with a nod. Looking over to Nick, Karrin eases up on yanking the car around by its hood and looks quietly to the road.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Sounds like my neighbor." Nick murmurs. He blinks, considering Karrin's words. "You're dating a magic user named... Harry?" He asks. He bites his lip, but it's too late.

The laughter has started.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"What?" Murph asks. "C'mon. You ever looked at where I live? I live in an office, converted one, with a dog, a cat, and Harry" she says, looking over at Nick. They're stopped in traffic, it's fine.

She shakes her head wondering just, just what Nick's laughing at. Wizards are cranky and don't like being laughed at...

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Oh com-heh heh- on I don't-heh heh -know where you live-Hahahaha" Nick's struggling to regain his composure, Eyes closed and mouth wide in a fit of mirthful laughter, "OhGod I didn'tknowhow-HAHA-How much I need to hear that."

"HA HA HA"

Nick starts to lose his voice as his laughter is slowing down his ability to breathe. "Rowling'd be proud."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph's tempted o open the door and throw Nick's luggage out. "Dresden. Haarry Dresden" Murph explains calmly. "I'm dating him, yeah, the guy who blows up anything made post 1940s era tech wise. Ask Buffy on that" she says stepping on the gas pedal, and she looks amused to. "Don't make me call an EMT for you. Remember. Breathe!" she says, since they got a bit of traffic free road, she takes advantage, making up time. Okay so it's only a little time, but...but....Murph's trying, okay. She is really trying.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
As Murphy speeds up, Nick focuses on trying to quell his laughter. And well, everytime it looks like he's about to stop, he takes a deep breath and SOMETHING just starts it over again. This is probably the longest Nick's smiled around Karrin for quite awhile.

But even happiness from silly thoughts fade.

Eventually.

Nick takes a few deep breaths. Eyes closing as he tilts his head back. "Ah God. Feels good to laugh."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph shakes her head and looks over to Nick, then back to the road, driving around road crews. She knows how they feel, really. Once she's stopped she starts watching them out the corner of her eye then looks to Nick then to the road. Shaking her head, Murphy smirks. "You figured I was dating that other wizard guy? Yeah no. Harry Dresden. There" she says, admitting it..

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"I didn't think you really were. But the pieces of information were enough to give me a mental image I couldn't help but laugh at." Nick admits, eyes opening as he looks to the construction crew, "Okay. So in recap, you're dating and living with a wizard named Harry DRESDEN and you're part of a supernatural police task force. You have a dog and a cat and probably have a hell of a commute. Is that about it?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Yes" Murph says with a smirk. Shaking her head, Karrin laughs. "See. Se. You need to find somebody, Nick" she nods. Mostly so she can tease him.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick's smile starts to fade. "Hmm. Well, I'm not really looking." He admits, keeping his glance towards the construction work, "Relationships don't really work out for me."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Thatsucks" Murph says. yes. All one word. One. count it. ONE WORD!

"Yeah I was the same way. Been divorced, didn't work out" Karrin says. "Then Harry showed up, so....so...." she says, "If I can find love. you can just as well, Nick. I'm not gonna play matchmaker, but...hey. You can do it" she says encouragingly with a grin, looking from the road to Nick.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick doesn't look back and just continues watching the construction. Well, facing the construction. The eyes probably should be a bit more focused for watching to be the proper term. His jaw clenches as he head shakes slightly side to side. "It wouldn't be fair."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"What wouldn't? You wouldn't have to date a colleague. Loook, I think there's somebody out there for you" she offers with a smile then looks over to Nick then back to the road as they keep on driving. Karrin though shakes her head with a smile.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
There's another shake of the head. "Let's just, agree to disagree on this and switch topics." He turns his head, giving a practiced smile, "So, what type of dog do you have?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph listens and nods. "Well yeah, but I'm hoping Vancouver goes well for you though" she says with a look around then smiles to herself. Looking over to the road again, they're nearing JFK. Murph laughs softly. "You want me to pull into a parking lot or...?" she adds with the question in the air. She's just gonna listen, and do what Nick says really with regards to driving around JFK.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"...Thanks." Nick gestures over to the sign indicating where the drop offs go. "You'll want to go that way and keep going til you reach Terminal 7."

He glances aside, looking to the road. "Thanks for dropping me off."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Just don't get into trouble" Karrin says with a smile, as she looks amused then over to the terminals, finally pulling up in front of Terminal 7. "Well here we go" Murph nods

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"In character or for real?" Nick asks with a smirk, seatbelt unfastening. "Because the guy I'm playing gets into all sorts of it." He turns, grabbing his bag. "I'll be fine. And, thanks again. Hope you and your other friends work things out."

With a quick hand motion, the door unlatches, letting a burst of cold into the heated vehicle.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"For real" Karrin says. "Yeah that's cold"

Like it's not obvious. "You just stay safe though" she says with a look over to Nick and smirks. "No you can't have a stuffed animal out of the trunk, though" she jokes, with a smile and a nod. She's ready to get moving soon as Nick gets out. Though she's not entirely okay withh him just, taking off like that. Literally. Murph looks out for her friends. Nick included.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Oh you think this is bad?" Nick asks, giving a laugh as he leans in, giving a grin, "It's about 10 degrees colder where we're filming and we've got a number of outdoor scenes. Stay toasty."

Before Karrin has a chance to respond, Nick closes the door and gives one last wave, slinging the backpack onto his shoulder before turning to go inside.
