Synopsis: Riana seeks the counsel of Richard Dragon on how best to deal with a swarm attack, in case the Harpies come back.
Cast of Characters: Wild Rose, Dragon

Wild Rose has posed:
It had been a quiet few weeks since the harpy attack in Bushwick, at least on Riana's end of things. It did, however, leave her much less inclined to train outside, at least for the time being. So it was that she headed for a now-familiar dojo that, if one wasn't specifically looking for it, one might miss entirely. Shoes are removed just inside the door, and a bow given to the inside of the room as a sign of respect to someone else's dojo--whether or no she actually saw them present or not. What would her teacher make of recent events, she wondered? Had she lost her mind?

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon is sparring! Or to better say it, he's jumping, ducking, weaving and trading light blows with a student that could be twentyfive, is definitely athletic, and is combining various forms of fighting in a single fluid style.
And they're both blindfolded! Which, actually, could explain why he doesn't turn towards Riana as she enters, but says a simple "I'll be there in a moment!" while ducking under a right jab, grabbing the wrist with his left hand and quickly turning, throwing the student to the floor with a judo flip.
"and that's why you never forget japanese styles while using cynese ones. hm? Well done though, Brian. You're improving quickly"

Wild Rose has posed:
Riana lets out a low, soft whistle and just smiles, leaning on her staff back towards the entrance of the dojo. "Blindfolded, too. I'm not sure if I could do that." The sheer fluidity of each lightning-fast strike certainly would have been helpful against the harpies that week--but that was something she could wait to mention to him till the other students were gone, or perhaps for another visit. "Impressive, though. Very impressive."

Dragon has posed:
Both Richard and Brian bow, before removing their blindfolds, shaking hands and Brian heads towards a small changing room, leaving Richard and Riana alone. "Good day, Riana! I find fighting blindfolded to be a great exercise. Both in training your senses, and in predicting what your opponent is likely to do based on what he just did... Spatial awareness, speed of thought, and some other things all at once!"

Wild Rose has posed:
"I wonder if that's not something I shouldn't pick up, and sooner rather than later." There's a slight hint of grimness to Riana's voice, and her brows furrow, her grip on her staff tightening. "I can't always count on luck or an ally showing up when the chips are down." Especially when the opponents were numerous, swarming... well, harpies. But she wasn't saying that just yet. "Have you ever found it matters just how numerous the opponents are, when fighting that way?"

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon hmms, moving towards the woman to stand in front of her. Barefoot, the man is just wearing a simple black training GI today. "you mean when fighting blinded or when fighting generally? Numbers matter, of course... It's true that not too many people can attack you at once, leaving you to deal with just a limited amount of opponents at the same time. But numbers matter, if anything, for a matter of stamina... That's, quite, relevant"

Wild Rose has posed:
"More with fighting blinded." Riana hesitates for just a moment, before continuing. "There was an incident in Bushwick, and had an ally not shown up when they did, I might very well not be here. The opponents were numerous, and all coming from the air, like nothing I'd seen before. Just how do you deal with something like that?" She's keeping her voice low, so her words are focused mostly on him for the moment. "If need be this can hold till another time... but I'm not sure for how much longer."

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon seems thoughtful listening to the question "well, trying to find a strategic advantage in your surroundings seems like the first thing to do... If they come from above, finding someplace with a roof, or at least something that blocks the upwards access point... Limiting the angles from which they can come, but it also depends from the, size, of the opponents, and their patterns... Their, amount of intelligence, their, tactics if any..."

Wild Rose has posed:
Riana Mackenzie frowns and nods, listening. "There didn't seem to be too much organization to the attack, and unfortunately the surroundings worked against me that time. It was out by Bushwick Creek, completely open air. At least, though, it left me plenty of room to use my staff." Yes, it did seem as if perhaps another lesson was in order, and soon!

Dragon has posed:
Richard Dragon nods understandingly "in that case, there are two schools of thought. Backing against a tree or object could cover your back, allowing you to only need to build a defensive semisphere with your staff. Staying in the open affords mobility, but at the expense of needing to be more careful so perhaps, against swarms, it's not so good. Even if backing up against a tree or object cuts your escape routes, quite a lot... As for staves, well, they're one of the more defensive weapons so it's good you had that, at least."
