Canary Crash
Date of Scene: 16 April 2020
Location: Mercy's Garage - West Harlem
Synopsis: Dinah's Harley broke down in front of Mercy's shop, and the two chatted while the bike was repaired.
Cast of Characters: Mercy Thompson, Black Canary

Mercy Thompson has posed:
There's not much to Mercy's daily routine really. Currently, for example, she's cleaning her garage with a mop and a bucket of water, a tray of cookies left to cool in her living area. That explains the odd scent mix. Antifreeze, brake fluid, cookies, and melted chocolate chips. Add that in with the various fluids a car has and it's an odd mix. Mercy pauses mopping the floor and shakes her head for a moment, watching outside through the open bay doors. Technically...she's open. It's just a slow day.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake grumbles as her Harley stopped running as she was driving along. Dinah is currently wearing a teal blouse (with a black leather jacket over it) and blue jeans. She sighs softly as she gets off, looking at it. Oh boy - the hog's in bad shape. She looks around and sees a garage fortunately nearby and rolls the antique bike that way, sighing, and then rolls it into the shop. She really hopes the mechanic doesn't say anything about the secret compartments or the armor on the bike. "Hey there. I'm hoping you can take a look at my bike. It broke down right outside your shop."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy sets the mop aside with a look and smoothes out her coveralls. "Sure, what do you need help with?" she asks, "Huh, it quit running outside my shop? Okay, let's see. Does it have fuel in it?" she starts. Simple questions. Is it gassed up,did this lady just knock the ignition off and not notice, or hit a kill switch?

"I'll get my wrenches" Mercy says taking a long, slow look over the Harley. "At least you've got good taste in aftermarket modifications" she says with a smile.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake blinks. "Yes - it has half a tank." She sighs softly as she shakes her head, muttering to herself. "Oh, I'm Dinah," she states, smiling softly. "Sorry for dropping in on you like this. I hope you can fix it - I've had this bike for a decade, and have been tinkering with it."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy looks to the bike and nods. "I can tell you've tinkered with it. Alright, Dinah." she says gently. "I'm Mercedes, or Mercy. I can definitely try for fixing your bike. You want to help out and learn a thing or two?" she asks and steps towards her tool chests, never turning her back on Dinah. Never turn your back on another predator. Mercy's got that in her head, as she comes back with several wrenches. Alright, it's only what...five steps to the tool chest, but still, still....Mercy's being cautious.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake raises an eyebrow. "Do I make you nervous?" she asks softly, watching you watch her. "You are acting like I'm going to attack you or something." She tries to be a keen observer of details. "Are you sure you want me to help?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy keeps a hold of the wrench. "Well I'm a woman in West Harlem. It's not the safest bit of New York" Mercy says and looks past Dinah fo r asecond then back to her. "I don't think you're going to attack, no. I'm just still a little shaken from nearly being robbbed last yeer, so you understand why I'm a little nervous" Mercy admits.

She cracks a smile to the help question. "of course. If you've had this bike for a decade, then why not? You could learn a thing or two andd save money on mechanicc's fees"

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods slowly. "Don't worry. I'm not in the business of attacking people unless they attack me first." She smiles faintly. "I probalby tweaked something wrong." She smiles, still hoping you won't mention the armor (that would show some battle scars so this vehicle has seen its share of action).

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Twirling a wrench Mercy nods to the bike. "You tweaked it? You've done good if it's been runnning up till now" Mercy points out with a nod, looking over the bike. "Okay roll it forward, need to get it off the ground so I can get a look at the engine. First place to start since it's got fuel" she muses. Ah, being a mechanic is never dull. Well. Mostly.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods as she rolls it forward, sighing softly as she smiles faintly. "Yeah - I just must've did something wrong this time." She ponders as she waits for you to raise it up on the lift.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Can you undo whateverr it was?" Mercy asks. Up goes the bike, under it crawls the coyote walker. "So you got a Harley? That's pretty much a bit of iconic Americana right there" she says with a nod. "Mostly work on old cars mind"

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods slowly. "Yeah - I'm not quite sure - it might've been the spark plugs I messed with lately." She hmmmmms softly as she gets down to crawl under the bike too. "I try to keep every thing clean and up to date."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy nods, "Should be easy to fix. So you work on your bikee a lot?" Mercy adds with a wriggle to get her wrench into the engine. The obvious thing would be pull the engine out, but....she's more used to old cars than bikes, really. Still. bikes are smaller, but infinitely more complex

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods slowly. "I'm pretty sure I didn't mkae a mistake, but something went wrong." She sighs softly. "Maybe the individual modifications were fine ontheir own but they're clashing with each other."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Hm" Mercy says and pokes the engine with a wrench a few times, then begins disassembling it. "Actually, scrabble out from under there. I'm gonna bring the bike back onto two wheels, then pull the engine out, okay?" she asks looking pleased.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods as she moves back out. "Okay. It probably is due for a once-over anyway. It's been a while sine I had a proper mechanic look at it - I odn't just trust anyone with my precious. But you're rapidly being added to the list."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
That's a good thing. Mercy sets the wrenches down after crawling out fromunder the bike, then studies the engine. Hmm....not as easy as Mercy figured. So she looks over the engine for a moment, then shakes her head.

"Alright so where's the spark plugs on a Harley?"

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods as she gestures to them. "Right here. Maybe I did the gap wrong on one of them." She pats the engine. "I've put a lot of miles on this thing. I don't want to part ways with it."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Ah" Mercy nods grabbing a wrench again. Time to get this checked over. Okay, wrench? Check. Engine? Yes. Spark plugs? Got it. See, this is actually easy, Mercy thinks as she's turning the wrench.

"So where are you headed once I fix up your bike?" Mercy asks.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake blinks. "I was going to get to the Zetaport and return to Starling - I have a shop up there I own that I want to visit." She smiles softly as she watches you look the bike over, still glad you haven't mentioned the unusual armor.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"As in?" Mercy asks pulling out and inspecting spark plugs, "As in, Starling. Canada? Not too far from where I grew up relatively speaking" she nods looking thoughtful for a moment then smiles. "It's only a short ride to the zetaport once we get your bike running again. So" Mercy says replacing g a spark plug, "I think I got it"

The armor's not strangee that much. Not given just what Mercy is. "If I'm ever up in Starling I'll check your shop out. Though I may bring allergy meds, sensitive nose" Mercy says with a grin. Nope, the armor gets no comment at all. Not the weirdest thing Mercy's seen by a long shot. "I need the allergy medication since my nose is hidiously sensitive. it's like,I walk into a room with one tiny little speck of dust, just one particle, I'm sneezing like it's the middle of hayfever season, you know? That's why I need the medication. It's why I'm not sneezing in here too, the various scents are doing wonders for me able to focus" she nods. Ah the joys of being the daughter of /that/ Coyote.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake just blinks. "Well - best you not visit my shop. It's a flower shop. If a little dust would set off allergies..." She trails off. "Oh - I might have some pollen on my clothes - I hope I'm not setting you off or something." She then shrugs. "It gets everywhere." She then watches. "So - one bad spark plug, huh?"

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Oh no no you're fine. I'll let you know if you're setting me off. So come on. I'm curious about you. You got a bike. You one of those the open road types you see in movies?" she asks, moving on to check the wiring next. See. See. Mercy's got this down by routine. Car? Can do it with her eyes closed. Bikes? Not so much, really...

"Flower shop? Like you sell flowers to people, or is it more the heyy, I need flowers for my event type shop? See now I wanna check it out. I could use some flowers to brighten up this garage, like...in the office, that sort of thing" Mercy admits, curious now as shes sidetracked. Not hard to do since Mercy's doing a mundane task.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake smiles. "Both - mostly the former." She then watches. "So I just messed up with a spark plug. I'll be moer careful next time." She then smiles faintly as she pulls out a checkbook. (Yes, in this day and age.) "How much do I owe you?" she asks.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Hold on, is there anything else you'd like me to do with your bike?" Mercy asks, spying a frayed wire. "Not just a spark plug. The wiring is going from the throttle down there" she says, "I'd need to order one in and fit it" she says gently. "Aside from that, you're good to go. But I can strip your bike to the frame and go over every inch of it if you'd like a total inspection and rebuild?" she offers. "It's fine if not, I was just willing to go over your bike and make sure it's all flawless"

The chequebook gets a genuine smile from Mercy. "I've not seen one of those since I left home and came to New York. Yeah, so what I used one in college. Big deal" Mercy says like it's really not a big deal.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake nods. "That would be lovely. I'll come by another day once you get the parts in. It's been through a lot." She smiles softly. "I'm not the biggest fan of modern technology - I like to keep things simple."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Nor am I. Growing up in the middle of nowhere does that" she says and nods. "Well would you mind coming to the office to fill out paperwork so I can contact you when it's done? Or should I just call the store?" Mercy asks with a smile.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake smiles. "I do have a cellphone," she states, showing an old-style flip-phone. "But yes, paperwork would be best." She smiles.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Then..." Mercy says grabbing a rag and wiping off her hands, leading the way to the office. There's foil wrapped cookies on the desk as Mercy digs out paperwork. She settles behind the desk, pulling the foil off the cookies.

Black Canary has posed:
Dinah Drake glances at the cookies, smilign, then glances back at you. "I hope I didn't cause too much trouble - you didn't seem that busy today so Lady Luck smiled on me."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Oh no, no trouble. It's a slow day repairs and job wise. I've enough to keep the lights on" she grins, setting a pen on the table. She shakes her head with a grin. "Alright so, form's there, and please, if you like then take a cookie" Mercy nods looking pleased, already working in her head on what needs doing for the bike.
