Chocolate Cures All Ills
Date of Scene: 27 April 2020
Location: Kitchen - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Chocolate chip cookies plus Dixieland jazz and good company can cure many an ill.
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Firefly (Barrows)

Nightingale has posed:
If there was one thing that enforced downtime for one of the mansion's resident healers meant, it was the smell of something delicious baking in the kitchen. Of late, it had meant more savory dishes but tonight heralded the return to indulging one's sweet tooth. A very large bowl of cookie dough is on the counter in front of Shannon, two baking pans which she sprays down with cooking spray, and a pair of spoons nearby.

She's in her red tartan sweatpants, baggy gray tank top, and sheepdog slippers, with her hair pulled back in a ponytail to keep her hair out of the cookies. There is a small wound dressing largely hidden by the neckline of her tank top, though on occasion the top edge makes its presence known; it looks as if it would be very close to her heart.

Also on the counter nearby is her phone, which she's set to her Dixieland jazz playlist. A jaunty little clarinet piece is playing on the phone, and she's using the spoons to portion out the cookie dough onto the sheets for baking, humming along with the song and... dancing?

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah watches the sight of Shannon dancing and humming. To be honest he always felt attracted to her. Her and Megan were the only single girls that seemed to elicit such a reaction from him. He moves behind her and covers her eyes, light glowing in his hands as the healing light fills her body and calms the mind.

"Guess who."

Nightingale has posed:
Caught with her hands and spoons in the cookie dough, there is no chance for Shannon to escape. She cracks a light smile and chuckles, extending her wings behind her in a bid to tickle her erstwhile mystery person. "Ummmm... Pete Fountain? No, that's not it." Other than the wings, she's holding still, calmed by the healing glow. "Hey there, Josiah."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah smiles as he lets her go and looks to her cookie dough. "You know I need to lose some lightforce every so often. The longest I been without using it made me have a fever once." He says calmly as he looks to her. "So I just got done talking to Megan. I am going to help her learn to use her new wings tomorrow. Maybe you can come and show us amateurs what for."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles some. "Her wings were made for speed and agility before. She could get up to very high speeds very quickly, but when it came to longer flights, she'd be more apt to peter out in the long run. Wings like these..." She spreads her own to their full span for a moment, flexing them slowly. "...it takes me a second to get up to speed but when I do, it's easier for me to sustain it over a longer span of time. She'll also have to get used to a larger wingspan, and a different way of moving them."

Tucking her wings in behind her, albeit loosely this time, there is a soft metallic scraping and plop-plop-plop as she continues filling the baking sheet with roundels of dough. "She'll get it, though. It'll just take a lot of practice."

Glancing over her shoulder, she lofts one brow, quirking a wry smile at Josiah. "Do ummm... you actually manage to fly with your wings? Because if so, maybe it'd be fun to have a race sometime. Loser cooks dinner."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"I make large wings so I can lift my body weight. I CAN fly but it is about roughly the speed of a regular car. maybe fifty or sixty miles per hour at most." He says as he watches her. "I would definatly lose. Something tells me you have a few tricks up your sleeve." He says as he watches her. "So I have a question. Are you seeing anyone?" He asks curiously, blushing slightly.

Nightingale has posed:
"I thought I was, once. Never did hear from them again, though. Am I now?" Shannon shrugs. "Who knows? Things can look promising but change very, very quickly. I've been learning to be happy one day at a time." It looks for a moment as if she might say something else, but just smiles a bit. "What makes you ask, though?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"Just curious. children our age is supposed to be trying to have sex at every possible chance and I feel like I am disappointing our adult benefactors." Josiah says with a smirk before he looks to the cookie sheet. He then pulls a pot down and fills it with water.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon facepalms with a spoonful of dough in her hand, laughing. Unfortunately, this also makes the spoon act as a catapult, flinging the dough over one shoulder--and in Josiah's general direction. Whether it lands on him or in the pot of water is anyone's guess. "Urgh, seriously? Is that what adults think of us, that we think with things that we shouldn't think with and that's all we do? Sheesh."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
The cookie dough missile hits him right in the face. He pulls it off and puts it on the cookie sheet and he smirks. "To be honest I am searching for something more then physical pleasure." He says as he brings the pot to a boil. "You on the other hand should be beating off boys with a stick." He says as he smirks at her.

Nightingale has posed:
Attempting to stifle a giggle, Shannon finds it a losing battle. With an impish little smile, she reaches for a dishtowel, and offers it to Josiah. "Gawd, I'm sorry about that!" Chuckling, she lifts her chin a notch towards the pot. "Whatcha making? Need a hand?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"Just making some macaroni and cheese. Maybe you can help me with your personal touch." He says with a smirk as he wipes off his face with the dish towel and he looks to her eyes and watch her for a moment. "You never answered my question. Are you beating off boys with a stick?" He asks as he waits for her response.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just shakes her head. "I don't exactly have them beating down my door. I'll be pretty bluntly honest, there's one who's... seeming interested, but I've also been hurt before. It's... hard to tell how seriously to take it." Shannon sighs a little, going back to plopping some cookie dough and filling up the first cookie sheet, moving on to the second. "Maybe I'm a hopeless fool, but I'm not so sure I want something other than real. So... who knows."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
Josiah watches the woman and he smiles. "I believe you will find someone to cherish." He says as he moves to rub her wings with his hands. He then looks to the pot of water and he lets go of her. He then smiles at her.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon seems to relax almost instantly as Josiah touches her wings, almost like a ragdoll kitten. She bites her lower lip as he moves away, ducking her head. Yeah, it's a good moment to get the cookies in the oven and the timer set! With that done, she turns to peer over at him, and smiles. It's a simple, quiet moment, one that is all too rare at times. "So ummm, mac 'n cheese. How can I help you with that?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
He looks into her eyes and he just seems lost for a moment. He then snaps back when she talks and he nods. "Sure. you can help me make it better using your personal recipe?" He says as he lets her turn to work and then he begins to massage her wings again.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon frowns for a moment, seeing that lost look. "What is it," she asks, gently, reaching out to briefly touch Josiah's shoulder. But even that brief touch falls away, and she sighs a little. "Have I hurt you...?"
