Soup For The Soul
Date of Scene: 11 May 2020
Location: Kitchen - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Shannon and Josiah check in with each other after the incident at Breakstone Lake.
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Firefly (Barrows)

Nightingale has posed:
Today was a day for comfort food if there ever was. The night before had gone to hell in a handbasket, and the day following had been none too fun, either. Shannon's emerged from hiding herself away wherever it is she hides, creeping into the kitchen with her hair tied back--a little more neatly this time than before. While she still has circles under her eyes, they are perhaps less pronounced than before. She's in some dark charcoal grey sweatpants, a baggy grey tank top, and her floofy sheepdog slippers. As she putters about the kitchen, with a large pot on the stove, and varied ingredients in different states on the counter, a smell familiar to any New Englander starts to fill the room--clam chowder. A good, hearty, clear-broth clam chowder.

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"I love clam chowder." Josiah says. The boy doesnt dress in anything but suits in some fashion and he was no different. He walks in and smiles as he smells the broth. "Mind if I help?" He asks curiously as he watches the woman. He looks her over and gives a smile. "Love your slippers." He says with a grin to the girl.

Nightingale has posed:
A faint smile lightens the girl's expression, and she dips her head, wiggling her feet about a little; there are even little floppy pink tongues on the slippers, as sheepdogs are often known for. "Thanks," she murmurs. "Got some potatoes to dice, if you wanted. I'd say maybe into half-inch cubes. I'll take care of the onions, those can be a real pain."

As she works, Shannon peers over at Josiah, looking both relieved at his presence--and concerned. "How are you since, you know, the lake? It got pretty hairy out there."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"I am fine. Megan took the brunt of the blast. I am just glad I got there to defend the two of you. You both are my favorite people here." Josiah says as he begins to cut the potatoes. forming a lightforce knife and cutting it up. "I spoke with Sam last night. I healed his injuries but he still needs to remove the cast." He says as he watches her. "We talked about you. About places where I can take you once the curfew is up." He says softly.

Nightingale has posed:
"Thank you," she says softly. "I'm glad you were able to heal him. He... doesn't like it when I do it, because it hurts me. He's as close to an older brother as I've got." She watches with fascination as the lightforce knife flares into being, cracking a little bit more of a smile. "No matter how many gifts I see here, they never cease to fascinate me."

Her face turns a bit rosy, lending a little color to her pallor. "Oh?" She was struck speechless for a moment, turning to the task of peeling and chopping the onions for the chowder. "What places did you talk about?"

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"Taking you to Coney island and the like." Josiah says as he cuts. "He also gave me the lecture that if I hurt you, I answer to him." He says with a chuckle. "He said you were like a sister to him." He says as he cuts it into half inch cubes.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles somewhat, pausing in her task of chopping up onions. "You know, I've never been to Coney Island. Also," she adds, chuckling a little bit. "...I don't think Sam's the only protective one. There's Alexis, all the teachers... and ohh boy, you'd better believe Logan's pretty protective."

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"All the more reason not to hurt you." Josiah says with a laugh as he cuts the potatoes. "Besides I never been the type to hurt anyone if I can help it. Infact the only time I used the lightforce offensively was twice now counting that incident at the lake." He says calmly as he hands her the potatoes

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon smiles, accepting the potatoes, taking the cutting board full of them over to the pot, tipping them with a series of little splashes. "Well, I'm glad you're on our side," she quipss, tilting her face. "I can't even imagine what having a gift like yours is like. Do you actually feel the lightforce at all, like when you were chopping potatoes, for example?

Firefly (Barrows) has posed:
"The lightforce feels warm in my hands. I can make it as soft as flesh or as hard as steel, but thats it. It feels like an extension of my life force." Josiah tries to explain as he offers her the knife. Once she takes it she feels the healing power of the energy and of course an intense warmth. Like it should be burning her but it doesnt.
