Cast of Characters: Batgirl (Cain), Oracle, Buffy Summers

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
Things were busy in Gotham, as they always seemed to be. If it wasn't a costumed crazy, it was the usual gang members trying to portion out the streets as their turfs and battling with other like minded criminals. At night, the Bats were all out in full force these days, though some had their own pursuits with other things. Teams, jobs, lives.

Cassandra wasn't troubled with any of those things. She had the Bat crew. They were her family. Thanks to Bruce, she didn't really have to work. So she was able to dedicate herself fully to protecting the city in her cowled identity.

One thing she had learned with her new family: Everyone loved dumplings. So this was often her go-to when she wanted something. She was settled in one of the booths, a plate with steamed dumplings already in front of her. She used her chopsticks to pick up one, dipping it in the sauce before taking a bite.

Oracle has posed:
Part of Cass's Bat family is Barbara. She's got a soft spot for Cass and jumped at the chance to enjoy dumplings. As quiet as Cass is, Babs knows that girl is smart as anything, and is adored by the Bat-crew. See. Babs adores her, hey, if Cass needs a place to crash and she's in the area, Babs will loan out the Clocktower apartment, and she'll help Cass and the Bat family out. Just give the (bat) signal.

Chopsticks aren't Babs' favored way of eating, and they click and clack like needles as Babs is chasing a dumpling with them and finally gets it to stay grabbed. Small victories, Barbara!

She's not been here in a while, but she ordered what Cass did. Cass knows her stuff when it comes to this. Dipping it in sauce, mimicking Cass for a moment, Babs adjusts the chopsticks and secures the dumpling more before taking a bite. She's in her tank top and jeans combination with boots. If it gets spattered with sauce, it's not the end of the world.

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers has never been to this particular restaraunt before, but it got some pretty good ratings so she may as well try it out! The sight of dead chickens hanging in the window, and live ones in cages was kinda...Creepy, but hey, as long as they have good food!

As she entered the door, she was still trying to figure out what the heck the name of this place was. But who cares, as long as they serve good food and she's starving!

She wanders in, scanning the area for a free seat, then glances up at the menu, pondering what to order...I mean, how many different types of dumplings could there be?

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
Sixteen to be precise. That was just the dumplings and not everything else on the menu. Thought the dumplings were obviously the focus, thus the name of the place. The woman behind the counter greeted Buffy in broken English, asking what she would like and waiting patiently for her to choose. If patiently included screaming back and forth with the cooks in the back about something in Chinese.

As Barbara captures the dumpling, Cassandra can't help grinning a little. She sets her chopsticks down and quickly signs. <Getting better.> She could say it but she prefers to sign. Even even then, she still tends to be terse. For her, their body language was a conversation all on its own so the idea of 'talking' was still something she had to force.

As Buffy walked in, Cassandra glanced that direction automatically. A quick scan of the new entrant, an appraisal of how she moved, the possible calluses on her hands marking her as someone who fought a lot, miniscule things that most humans would never pick up on.

Oracle has posed:
Babs grins and nods, signing back, "I'm getting this, you watch/ I'll be doing trick shots next. Don't laugh, it went up my nose!"

Truth, while signing to Cass, Babs didn't set down the chopsticks and the dumpling caught the underside of her nose, smearing it with sauce as Babs looks like she wants to laugh and slink under the table all at once while eating said dumpling.

Which is what she's doing, focusing on it, and signing with her free hand and asking Cass what she's been up to/ Everyday normal stuff really, though Buffy gets a glance too and Babs tilts her head ever so slightly. She's run into Buffy before. Dumplings, Babs didn't know Buffy liked those.

Though really. How could anyone not like the food here. It's great.

Buffy Summers has posed:
Wow. Sixteen different dumplings. Buffy had nooo idea that many dumplings even existed! She smirks. "Ummm okay, guess I'll try the sweet and sour pork. Sounds normal enough.." she smirks. Hey, one can never be too careful. She didn't want to end up eating a jellyfish or someone's pet dog. That would just be...Really weird.

She hangs around the front desk for a few minutes, waiting for her order to be filled. Doesn't seem terribly busy today which is good. She didn't want to wait around for the next hour or two to eat a belated lunch.

Glancing around, she does spy a certain familiar red head and smiles and waves to Babs. Okay sure, she tried to hit on her guy, but to be fair, she didn't exactly know who he was..Yet.

"Heey, Barbara!" she calls out to her cheerfully, bringing her dumpling soup on the tray as she passes her table. "How's it going? Mind if I join you girls?" a nod and smile is given to Cassandra, although she did catch sight of the sign language, and tilts her head a bit curiously, wondering if she's deaf or mute or..Something else.

Oracle has posed:
Babs dabs at her nose with the napkin and watches Buffy. It'd be rude to tell Buffy to go away. Instead, Babs chews on the dumpling, watching it silently with a vindictive look, an 'I got you now, dumpling' look. It's prey. She's the predator. And the prey is delicious food. Waving over to an empty table, Babs is hinting at Buffy to focus on her own meal and not try to eat the soup with her nose. Instead, Babs sets down her chopsticks and signs, "There's free tables. Why's she want to join us? Just because I've run into her a few times?'

Babs is perfectly capable of using sign language to get her thoughts across, and swallowing she looks to Buffy, "There's a table over there for you, we got this booth"

True enough they do/ Babs doesn't want to share with somebody who makes Cass with drawn really. Though she gives Buffy a second glance. "You could join us but I'm not sure if you could make room on the table?" Babs says and means for Buffy. True, the table Buffy was going to has more space. Babs isn't trying to be a bitch. Well, not yet. It's just....she's protective of her Bat family and noted the change in Cass. And isn't a fan of that reallyy as Babs nods to the table next to theirs. That's got more room for Buffy to spread out her stuff. "If you want to grab a chair and pull that table up to ours?" Babs offers, signing to reassure Cass it's all good.

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers arches a *very* surprised brow at Babs. Sure, she doesn't know her super well..Except for several handfuls of friendly meetings. And the last time when she invited Babs to join her for dinner, but..Maybe it's the girl. Buffy's not blind, she can tell she seems..Uncomfortable or something.

She shrugs, glancing at the table nearby. "Right. I'll be over there." she doesn't bother to pull the table over as Barbara doesn't seem to want her there and the other girl seems pretty uncomfortable with her presence.

If they do decide to make conversation, she's still within earshot, otherwise she makes no attempt to interrupt and focuses on her meal instead.

Batgirl (Cain) has posed:
When Barbara manages to attack her nose with a dumpling, there is a giggle from Cassandra. Around her friends and family, she is more open. More willing to let that smile shine and be a person. Well, as much of a person as she can ever be. She is limited in the world and she is well aware of it. She functions more on the outside of it most of the time. That's why the Bats had been so good for her.

She picks up a napkin, tossing it across the table to Babs then sobers a bit, the smile fading as Buffy arrives. She doesn't give off a 'go away' vibe but she is more withdrawn.

She gives a little wave of her hand by way of greeting to the newcomer then picks up her chopsticks again.

She doesn't say hello or the like. That little wave was her form of hello. A form that other people can understand. For her a hello is actually an acknowledgement of someone's presence with a subtle lowering of the chin and shifting of the body toward them. It is something imperceptible to people. She's learned that over the years. To her it is screaming "Hi" but others don't even notice those miniscule changes.

It is part of why language is so strange. People say words that don't match what their body language is saying. Some of the others have tried help her understand it, to go out and study people, but it really just muddied the waters even more.

A moment later, the woman from behind the counter delivered the rest of Buffy's food to her table then scampered off to the counter, yelling again at someone in the kitchen before disappearing back there herself.

Cassandra took that moment to sign over to Barbara. <She is trained. Some. Fights.> The knuckles were the dead giveway along with a dozen other tiny things.

Oracle has posed:
Babs nods, both to Buffy and Cass. Bufffy. Trained. Hey that's not a shock given Babs has literally seen her fight with vamps and such. She also knows Cass picks up on the tiniest things. Which is a great thing for crime fighting. Both Batgirls enjoying dumplings. What's not to like? Babs glances over to Buffy with a quiet look. It's the sort that's apologizing to Buffy without saying words. The sort that implies Cassandra is family and Babs puts family first, but she knows Buffy would do the same if Babs walked in on her and Dawn.

Then again, would Dawn be in here with Buffy? Good question as Babs chews on a dumpling, eyes half closed as she thinks, and sets down her chopsticks for a moment. She doesn't sign to Cass. Instead, well...

She's thinking on things and looks from Cass to Buffy. "Is that soup better than the dumplings?" she asks

Buffy Summers has posed:
Buffy Summers probably wouldn't do the same thing with her and Dawn..Unless Dawn was super paranoid or mute or had some other PTSD issue or something that made her extra nervous around strangers. Buffy's probably thinking that same thing right now, but tries not to swell on it as she munches on her dumplings.

"Sweet and sour pork dumplings in the soup." she smiles. "They're pretty good"
