Date of Scene: 21 May 2020
Location: Mel's Diner - Breakstone
Synopsis: Mercy and Aerin share a booth and a mutual respect for cars....and Mercy tries to not create a new lake.
Cast of Characters: Mercy Thompson, Aerin Mifflin

Mercy Thompson has posed:
THe Breakstone area is ouut of the Big Apple, which is Mercy's home. She's out here heading home, and has pulled in here to get food. Mercy, Native American as she is, she's settled at the counter in her overalls and work boots. Hr Rabbit's in the lot, leaking fluids (as per usual) and it's towing a trailer with an Opel GT, aka the German Corrvette (albeit sold by Buick too)...as Mercy is waiting on her food. Something simple and easy.

Looking over the diner, Mercy looks tired and a litle antsy and restless really.

Mercy looks maybe a little bit out of place here, Native American, maybe mistaken for Hispanic, true, but...

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin drives in with her red '72 Pantera GTS. Sure, maybe a lot of the metals and parts and interconnecting bits might be purple, but while she controls the metals, she does not control the paint job. Either completely restored, or never used as a classic car. Turning it off she the long-haired girl is still just starting explore her surroundings. She certainly isn't used to them yet.

A big city has so many people, it's always alive. There's more people in a square mile than her entire hometown. A diner seems like a smaller place to rest and relax. As the door opens out steps a tall girl somewhere around 20, maybe younger. Impossibly long purple hair falls from the car flowing and swinging behind her. It has a shine in the light..too much shine, as it's apparent it's actually metal. She's wearing a black turtleneck sweater, and a snug pair of jeans with glasses tucked in the front of her turtleneck. Taking a moment to make sure that hair - which at least goes from head to toe - is clear of the door she closes it up behind her.

She glances at the other classic car, and..the state of things leaking? Oh. That's not good. Reaching inside the open window she picks up a book from the passenger side, then wiggles back out and heads into the diner. Again, making sure all her hair is in before letting the door close. Those purple eyes glance around. Hmm, it does seem rather quiet here. Not the hustle and bustle of the city.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Hearing the door, Mercy looks up and over to said door and watches, then drums her fingers on the counter again while waiting. It's not the annoying drumming. More the casual sort really.

Oh Mercy's well aware of how her Rabbit's leaking, but she's got this. Mercy's a mechanic by trade.

She's got this. She's definitely got this. Looking over the counter again, Mercy raises a hand and waves to Aerin like she knows her. She doesn't, but...Mercy is friendly and outgoing, true

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin waves on her way by Mercy, settling into a seat nearby and pulls one of the menus as she eyes over the offerings. Well..she could make most of these things at home..but she isn't really at home anymore. Hmmn. That sinks in a bit. She's chosen a booth and tucks her feet up under her, pulling her hair up off the ground, taking a few long moments to really brush it off. Some lands on the table with more of a light metallic clinking sound than a no sound at all that normal hair would have. Then it's brushed so that it all lays acros the booth instead.

When the waitress comes by she orders "French Toast, Bacon, and Orange Juice if you would." She slips her glasses up and on so she can actually read the menu, and see a bit better. "Thank you."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy's waiting as well and glances to Aerin and out the window, gazing at the Pantera in amused awe. It's not leaking, nah. It's not doing a slug impression unlike the diesel Rabbit. Well then.

Mercy watches, looking over the car again, Mercy gestures out the window. "That your car?" she asks with a wave to the Italian sports car and smiles. "It's pretty....oh come on" Mercy sighs.

Turns out the Opel GT decided to soak the trailer. Great. One more for the wrench list.

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin looks to Mercy, then looks out the window. "If you are referring to the one that is not leaking everywhere, then yes. It's a restored Pantera GTS. The other one..should probably use some spill cleaner under it."

She looks back over to Mercy "Is that one yours? It looks like it's going to need some significant work - probalby things leaking quite a bit in the engine, or the hosing is old and needs to be replaced. Considering the age you may need to do some fabrication for the parts - even stock parts with the age may have wear. I had to do a lot of fabrication for mine."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"The one that's not leaking. It's not hard to work out which one that is" Mercy sasses. "Kinda obvious really. I had the Rabbit not leaking earlier, I can fix it in a moment, but the Opel GT? That's a lost cause. I went and picked it up from Salem Center and am hauling it back to New York City. I've a nose for scrapyards, but you're right. I may need to make or have the parts made. Though, that thing has a LS1 V8 in it, and the gearbox is on bakwards. It goes thirty forwards and 180 backwards in four gears. Poor guy who begged me to take it just about punched through a wall" Mercy says sympathetically.

"Though I'm familiar with the Pantera, is that a 71 or 72?" Mercy asks. Hey, she's ASE certified. She's a mechanic by trade....who can by the way spout off at history and oh yeah she's also able to turn into a coyote too. So there's that.

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin responds "It's a '72. And yes, the Opel then would probably require large amounts of fabrication and not be worth repairing. It took my father and I 5 years to bring my Pantera into use, though we had the ability to machine and fabricate our own parts. If we did not it would have been too expensive to repair, the body would have been one of the more difficult things to likely repair."

She shakes her head softly "Well..you could always keep the body and put a different engine into it? It seems like a frame of a car that collectors would be interested in, even if it isn't an original."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"Right" Mercy grins. "Use it as a frame, or add it to my ever growing pile of some day I'll finish this projects. Which is if anything, a good idea. Now if I had more hours in the day" Mercy nods listening to Aerin, Mercy finally tears her gaze away from the Pantera GTS and the Exxon Valdez next to it. Quite a comparison there....

Looking back to Aerin, Mercy's well aware of the heart attack the tree hugggers are going to have whenever she finally leaves, and the impending discovery of just how much torque is needed /and/ how high her Rabbit can rev isn't quite the learning experience Mercy wants. She's waiting on her food, too and shakes her head at the unfolding Opel and Rabbit conspiring to make a bid to be in the Kreigsmarine, Mercy is not forming her own German merchant fleet, nope...

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin hmmns. "Well I can't say that it's been horribly more than a project for me. It hasn't been a career. However each car takes significant time to repair. I just happened to have a vested interest in an older car. My father didn't know much about vintage cars, came across this one in someone's barn and we began restoring it together when I was a child. It was my sweet 16 present from my parents."

She glances back outside the window. "It sounds like you should probably go professional if you want to continue collecting. If you are interested in the challenge you could sell your cars with a solid fabricator and it's system. Otherwise it's going to end up expensive to keep collecting cars that you do not have the time to restore, especially since you need to keep them in good housing."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"You should see my garage in West Harlem. I've a few but I make my living mostly selling restored cars. Apparently with that lot I'll float them outta here" she muses and looks thoughtful/ "hey if you ever wanted to follow along with your not so leaky car. That isn't going to be a problem now" Mercy nods, her food finally arriving as she's fiercely pretending she pulled in here in thee Pantera...yeah, yeah right. Oh the shame of it all. Ah Mercy's used to it deaing in 80s cars. hers is slightly more modern, by about nine years than the Italian throroughbred. It's like comparing a mule to a racehorse.

If that mule was able to tow things, Mercy's curious in her mechanic's estimation if the GTS can tow anything without shearing in half, though....she's not wanting to test tha

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin raises a metallic brow. "Float them? You mean they move quickly?" Well, she has been hanging out with a crowd lately where things may actually float. Specitifity and all that.

"We've used a 3D printer to make molds, and generally fabricated parts from that and pre-existing parts to make the exact measurements and lengths. I'm not very great with using 3D printers, my family was better at it than I am. But if you know how to use it, and manpulate the measurements then it works very well for fabrication, which lets you do a lot of the internal work. The body work is different however." Okay, that's easy for her. She just pulled out the dents, and smoothed them out using her abilities. Sure, purple metal - but she just painted over that eventually.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy on the other hand, hasn't got those gifts. She though...well she's got a wrench, tools, and she's got friends who can totaly call on friends for heelp like a pack of animals. Which is good for Mercy's sake. See. Mercy is smart...smart enough to know who to call in, and when and for what. The joys of being raised in a werewolf pack, really...

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin food arrives and she begins eating. French toast with some butter, she avoids syrup however. Too much sweet on sweet for her. A sip of OJ between bites. And of course the salty bacon, though she doesn't eat the very fatty parts. Pure fat - eww.

Mercy Thompson has posed:
Mercy may be a coyote. She may chase small litle fuzzy things but...even she won't eat pure fatty bits of bacon. No. She's got standards and morals. She shakes her head and smiles enjoying her own food. It's got changed in the kitchen to a sandwich and nachos. Okay then. Mercy's got standards but sandwiches and nachos aren't below her bar it seems. Looking over the food she careuflly takes a bite, watching Aerin Mercy looks over her food again, munching on her nachos.

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin got exactly what she was intending. Some scrambled eggs, french toast, bacon. Though it's hard to dispute that's exactly what she ordered. She opens her book with one hand and glances over it over at Mercy, whom she can tell doesn't seem particuarly thrilled with what she received. "Do you not care for it?" she asks. "You can have some of my french toast if that is more amenable to you perhaps? Your face betrays a certain disinterest."

Mercy Thompson has posed:
"It's more they messed up my order in the kitchen. I get a whole other order and now I've taken a bite I can't send it back" she explains. "Sure, you want some....whatever that sandwich is and nachos?" Mercy offers, though her phone buzzes.

"Oh good, the tow truck's coming. It'll hopefully not slide into the diner though. That'd be a bad thing" the mechanic offers matter of factly.
