Orientation at Xavier's
Date of Scene: 22 May 2020
Location: Main Foyer - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Scott and Jean introduce themselves to the new student.
Cast of Characters: Aerin Mifflin, Cyclops, Phoenix

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin is one of the newest arrivals to the school. The girl with the impossibly long purple metal hair. Glasses, a turtleneck, and a pair of jeans along with simple sneakers make an easy to point out feature in the foyer as her hair sways behind her. By some magic it somehow stays out of her face.

She's been gathering up her books being the new arrival, with a few already in a purple and black backpack that's partially hidden underneath all that mass of hair which makes it's presence seen occassionally for brief periods.

She made some attention by arriving in a classic '72 Pantera GTS car in like-new condition with Kitty in tow having taken a road trip from Wisconsin. Stepping down from upstairs the sort of nexus point for the different floors may usually be quite busy. She hasn't actually started classes yet - she's not even sure if she's in time to truly join this session. She heads towards the kitchen as it's probably around lunchtime. She's been spending some time introducing herself to the teachers as a new student for classes she'll be joining, but she hasn't gotten to all of them since she took the opportunity to sleep in rather late.

Cyclops has posed:
Heading in through the front door is Scott Summers, dressed in a pair of slim jeans and a button down short sleeve shirt. He has a bit of a windswept look to his brown hair, complete with a pair of shining red RayBans. He's walking with Jean, one hand in hers as they quietly talk to each other about work that needs done, paperwork to be filed. As usual, there is an influx of new faces, coupled with those who are on their way out.

Graduation day is around the corner and obviously it will be quite an affair to plan and execute. Invitations to family members have been sent out, and the staff has been busy securing hotels and amenities.

As they spy one of the new girls, he clears his throat to catch her attention. "Good afternoon, Miss Mifflin. I trust that you are settling in well and starting to become acquainted with the grounds?"

Phoenix has posed:
Having received Kitty's memo, Jean has been on the lowdown look for Aerin. She'd already approved the preliminary paperwork and sent word to their new student that she planned to talk with her soon. An official note, slid under the door so as not to disrupt her. She can be heard speaking with Scott as they come in the door.

"Music is already booked, we have no shortage of alumni happy to join in. Catering is in the last stages of negotiations, which is mostly just arranging facilities and the menu finalization. Security will be a bit tighter than usual, it'll mostly be ramp up preparations to avoid any unwanted interruptions."

And oh look, a student! Good reason to stop discussing yet more paperwork. She flashes Aerin a wide, welcoming smile. "And I trust you got my letter. Whenever you're free, of course."

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin is vaguely aware of Scott, she's heard he's a household name, but isn't quite sure why? Being in admissions, probably because he stamps all of the admissions paperwork. She pauses awkwardly enough and brings a finger to her lip. Could be having perfect hair as well? Wavy and wind-blown, even inside? Is that his ability? Well..probably not. Though that would not be the worst ability to have. In a way she might be slightly envious of someone like that. The power to style with minimal effort. It can take her hours to properly clean and polish her hair.

Her cheeks pinken slightly. The headmistress slid something under her door because she overslept. Well. That feels slightly embarassing. The farm girl who is used to being up and out at 5am slept in. Her parents would have had her hide for that. Well. She plans on not telling them. No harm, no faul.

She drops the hand and rests both behind her back (under the backpack she wears of course) "Is there something of a disruption that you are expecting for the graduation?" she asks. She's heard Xavier's holds great prestige, but also has a less than mitigated risk of danger. She just assumed that was because it was a bigger city than those in Wisconsin. More people - more predjuices, more problems? "Yes, of course Miss Grey. I've been introducing myself to teachers and picking up my schoolbooks, however it seems that we have just entered the Summer sessions so it seems I've arrived a little early, but at a good time to adjust to the format of the school. I arrived with Kitty yesterday, however she seemed dissapointed I wouldn't let her drive, however she wasn't on the insurance that my parents pay for. I hope you are both doing well?"

Cyclops has posed:
There is a subtle glance towards Jean as Scott tilts his head just a bit, as if making a mental note or two based upon what the girl said. "No, we are not expecting a disruption, just planning in case one may happen. We are a school for mutants and thus you never know what may happen. Internally or externally." He gives another squeeze of Jean's hand, fingers curling up in hers.

"I saw your car in the garage. 72 GTS. Nice. Parts are hard to find for a beauty like that, so take care of it." There is a note of apprecation in his voice. He does love himself a good muscle car.

"Enjoy the summer break while you can. It always seems that classes start up quicker and quicker every year."

Phoenix has posed:
There's a sideways glance towards Scott. Fleeting, just a twitch of green eyes under red brows and the subtle quick at the corner of her mouth. Then it's gone.

"Sadly, the world isn't quite ready to accept us." Jean says quietly towards Aerin. "While we strive for secrecy as to the nature of our population here, there are never guarantees in the world. So we try to always be prepared. Better safe than sorry. No need to worry, though. If anyone means us harm, I'll know." She adds with a tap of a finger to her temple. So, how are you settling in? Need anything? I know this place is gigantic, so if you're not sure where somewhere is we can help show you."

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin nods softly "I need a rather older car. My father managed to find one is great disrepair, so we worked together to rebuild it. It was my sweet 16's birthday present, but we've worked on it together for the last 5 years. Much of the engine and parts are parts we fabricated because parts are not generally available, certainly not within a pricing that we could afford. The bodywork was actually the easiest part."

Her purple eyes move to Jean as she considers - if she can read other minds to tell if there is ill intent, can she read my mind? Can she read me thinking about her reading my mind? Oh crap, if she can read my mind thinking about her reading my mind, is that horribly rude to think about?. She huffs a bit as she almost gets lost in her head about the politeness and do's and donts of telepathy. Maybe there will be a class on something like that?

She hmmns. "There was a girl here who burned her hand. Had wings - I hope she is alright? Though she said she healed quickly. She had these brilliant white wings. I remember thinking they were a particuarly dazzling white and wondered how she kept them so particuarly clean."

Aerin takes a moment to consider her question. "So I've moved into a room, is that my permanent room, or will I either be moving in with someone, or they moving in with me? It seems like most students have roomates."

Cyclops has posed:
"That would be Shannon Lance. She is fine. She is a healer and can repair herself very quickly. That and we do have a top of the line medical facility." Scott says as he straightens himself up. "As far as the room situation goes, I do believe the room you are in will be your room from here out. You may get a roommate depending on how many students we have coming in this year. It's rare that anyone has a room by themselves, though we do give prefential treatment to those with powers that do not play well with others, and seniors."

Phoenix has posed:
If the thoughts register with Jean, she doesn't indicate it. In a place like this with so many strong personalities under one roof, it'd be a surprise if she didn't phase out the noise. "Speaking of powers," Jean says on the tail end of Scott. "I read over your general file, but I'd like to take some time to learn more about you and what you can do. I do that with everyone, just so I can learn how best we can help you make the most of your time here."

"Of course, even if I'm not in my office, if there's an emergency than never hesitate to reach out." She jerks a thumb towards the direction of the staff meeting room, where a small sign reads her office is also thataway."Ah, Scott, the garage is your sacred territory. So I'll let you help her with getting parking and gate passes set up."

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin offers a soft nod to both. "I see, I suppose I should not have been concerned however there was a bit of distraction. She did make rather good cookies."

She purses her lips a little "Ah, yes. Powers. I suppose they aren't exactly a secret. I have what appears to be indestructable metal hair. I can control it." She holds out her right arm, and her hair flutters out surrounding it but not touching it, interweaving. "I can do other things, like the fabrication of metal into other shapes. Like say for classic cars." Releasing the hold on her hair it falls back behind her. "I've heard that those with an affinity for the magnetic can have rather volatile personalities. I do prefer to watch people while they aren't aware I'm paying that much attention. So that when they do decide to strike out you know what your in for."

Cyclops has posed:
"It's really just one person and we have a long and storied history with him. I wouldn't worry about it. It's mostly a tongue in cheek thing now." Scott says as he runs a hand back through his hair, as if he was adjusting it just right. It has to be perfectly in place to make a good impression upon the student body.

"I'll give you a parking sticker and a spot this weekend so you have a designated area for your car. I teach the autoshop classes on Saturday's for those who like to learn basic repairs, so you are welcome to join in if you have a free afternoon."

Phoenix has posed:
"Mm, the collective relationship with him goes way deeper than an 'it's complicated' status." Jean says, sounding less upset or sad as it is quietly regretful. "But as a whole, no. No one power makes you a certain way. As I said to someone else, it isn't about what you can do, it's about what you choose to do with it and why."

She looks between Scott and Aerin on the topic of the car and chuckles, "I mostly only show up if the car lifts are misbehaving, but otherwise that's all on Scott. It's popular with the students who like to learn more hands on. If there's other things you like, or hobbies, I'm sure there's a group or class that can accommodate."

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin considers Scott's offer. "I would enjoy that. I'm used to working on older tractors and farming engines, as well as vehicles - including my own. I'm told I'm a decent junior mechanic, but it's more out of necessity and spending time with my father."

There's a moment of quiet reflection. "My parents are from Genosha. The CIA placed them in a small town in Wisconsin. They wont talk about it there. I suppose I'm curious of what it was like there, if there are any students from there. I sing and can play guitar if there's any music groups that would accomodate, though I prefer bass guitar to singing. Mostly it feels interesting seeing others like me. In a way I was one of the only ones in our town, there's friendship and racism there. You know what to expect from simple people. It feels like I'm stepping into a world that is about to become much larger, but far less straightforward as the tradeoff. Seeing Shannon's wings is a bit of a startling reminder that I'm not as alone as I have felt. It's one thing to see it on television, books, to hear of stories. But when you see the mutations up close, in person you realize that each person is truly unique and individual. In their own way. Seeing her wings kind of enraptured me since I'm not used to seeing others like me. Unique, indivual, it felt both beautiful and polarizing at the same time, and was a bit more difficult to overcome the unexpectedness of it than I had ever quite realized. So in a way I somewhat surprised myself - disappointed in a way in my inability to simply accept the new reality as fact versus fiction."

Cyclops has posed:
"Welcome to New York. We're all weirdos here." Scott says as he taps the side of his head. "I may look stylish wearing red shades inside the house, but if I take these off, I fire highly combustable optic blasts out of my eyes that I cannot control. These glasses are made of ruby quartz and they are the only thing that can hold my eyes back. I haven't seen the world in color since I was a child. All I see is shades of red. Contacts also aren't an option. We tried that."

Giving Jean's hand a firm squeeze, he gives her a grin, then leans in to place a kiss to her cheek. "I'm going to change into my workout clothes and then hit the gym. If you still plan on joining me, just let me know." He says as he gives her a smile, knowing full well he means their telepathic bond they share together. "It was nice to meet you, Miss Mifflin. I look forward to seeing you hold your own in autoshop."

Phoenix has posed:
"We tried a lot of them." Jean remarks in a tone that suggests grave mistakes were made and some people probably have scars from it. "But, just like our teacher did for us, we do the same for ours. If someone's powers need some help, we'll find a way to make it work. Our ultimate goal is helping the rest of humanity come to trust us and see us as equals, so control and knowledge are the first steps. But, I'll spare you the mid-hallway lecture. I have an office for that!"

Another wide smile is given to Aerin as she adds, "Speaking of, we don't want to hold you up if you have somewhere to be. Just figured an introduction was in order since we spotted you."

Aerin Mifflin has posed:
Aerin was going to say something between snarkily sarcastic and helpful with contacts, but Scott beat her well to the punch. She reaches a hand up to brush some of the strands of shiny hair back behind her shoulder. "Well I suppose you could try putting blue over the glasses to have an older 3d type affect, should you ever get bored with the simple everyday color?"

Stepping aside "Yes, of course. I don't have much going on currently, so just let me know whenever you would like to meet Ms Grey." She peers over to Scott with a soft smile, whispering as he passes by "You missed a spot on the back left." Oh, the hair went imperfect! Or..did it? Did or did not, he'll be thinking about it now.
