A Purrfectly Feline Encounter at the Museum
Date of Scene: 22 May 2020
Location: American Museum Nat. His.
Synopsis: Duncan and Nick met up at the Museum of Natural History. They saw Ivory pass through. Nick ended up getting a hisory lesson on Native American culture and the old west era. Duncan agreed to train him in self defense and the duo managed to get a following of middle school aged kids following them around listening to Duncan talk.
Cast of Characters: Duncan MacLeod, Ivory, Phantasm (Drago)

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
It is hard to say where you might find Duncan MacLeod. Today he is going through the museum exibits. He nods here and there, shakes his head other things. Anybody's guess why he might do that. He isn't being anti-social, he just isn't currently actively engaging others.

Ivory has posed:
While the useum of Natural Hstory isn't really one of art and clothing, some exhibits in it are even interesting for a designer such as Ivory. Armed with the catalogue, they wander the hallway, at times flipping in the booklet for directions, looking for something it seems.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
It is indeed hard to find Duncan MacLeod, but when you got the phone number from a past run in, it makes it all the much easier. It is the very means by which Nick determines he is to go to the museum today. Its also a good way to give advanced warning of his impending arrival.

Currently Mike is in the lobby area, affixing one of the museum buttons to one of the button holes of his jacket. The pastel button provides a little contrast, along with a bit of asymmetry to the musician's otherwise undistinctive clothing.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Knowing Nick is coming, Duncan keeps an eye out for him. He moves around the displays and does note Ivory's presence. He offers a polite nod as he passes by and gives room to pass since Ivory seems to be on a mission in her way.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Button in place and the program in hand, Nick wanders in. His backpack is not with him this time, likely because of the chosen destination being one that's got a more stringent bag check policy and he's not in the mood for technicalities. The hat remains though, hiding his hair.

The steps are a tad slow as he's glancing around, looking for the guy he had only met earlier this week. Not seeing him directly in the lobby area, he moves the human culture section. Seems like the type of spot an antiques dealer would probably go to...

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
While he has been around the museum for a while, he is currently looking at some of the culture sections. Noting your arrival he offers a wave and friendly smile,"Nick." he offers by way of greeting and looks at some of the Native American types of displays and pauses.
He frowns at something and leans in a little closer to examine. No touching of course, but he shakes his head and stands back up again,"Close...so close." he mutters about the piece of pottery that he looked at. Some people are too smart for their own good.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Catching the wave, the musician's head turns in time to see his name uttered from the Highlander's lips. He returns the smile, "Afternoon Duncan."

His steps slow as Duncan starts to inspect part of the exhibit. The look on the older man's face making him curious. "Something wrong with the exhibit?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Duncan shakes his head and replies,"Yes and no." He looks at the piece again,"It is slightly damaged there, revealing the cross section. It is Native American, handcrafted even, but the age is wrong." He shrugs and sighs.

He looks back to you and smirks a little,"The drawbacks of the job. You see the little things others can't." Looking around the exhibit he admits,"The rest of it seems to be accurate, just a little something that throws it off."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick looks to the piece Duncan indicated eyes assessing the areas being pointed out but not being able to really tell.

"Alright. So, is it looking good for its age or did it have a rough life?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He shakes his head,"It's newer than they indicate." he replies and studies it again,"The damage says it's been abused a bit much, but that could have been the original owner..." he turns his gaze towards a few little pre-teen hellions acting up down the hall,"...or something a little more recent."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Following Duncan's glance he looks towards the kids running down the hallways. "Well if it was THAT recent, it probably wouldn't have messed with the age estimate. Also messing with it would probably have thrown off some sensors. If they did the rig up with the model animals, they likely did that with the stuff with actual age."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Duncan narrows his eyes and studies the damage,"The damage is probably older than a year. It's just possible that someone in this era did the damage." He looks at you and smirks a little,"Somehow I don't think you came to the museum to get lectured on the age of pottery though."
He looks at the kids again and shakes his head as mom has her nose in her phone and her head in her ass. Eventually someone from the museum will step in. He's not a museum curator or parent. Something like this in his gallery...that could be bad.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"No, but it's an interesting aside." Nick admits, glancing back towards the kids before looking back to Duncan, "I was wondering about setting up some lessons. I'd have tried contacting you yesterday but I was busy changing locks."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Moving on to the next display, Duncan considers what you are saying and admits,"I don't really have a place in the city to get too indepth, but I could possibly get one. I'm not really interested in a large class here because I have to take care of my dojo and antique shop in Vancouver still."
He nods and tells you,"I'd be glad to teach you for the time I am here and you are welcome to visit me when I return to Vancouver for more advanced training if you want."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"It'd probably be just a few lessons here." Nick admits, "I probably won't be in the Vancouver area until I get another tour in. Or a role just HAPPENS to involve the area." He gives a tilt of the head, "But it can't hurt to get a feel for for the other styles out there."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"I will consider some things. Streamline them and we'll discuss a few things how to integrate your already trained or instinctive reactions into self defense." he explains,"Do you know of a YMCA or gym nearby where we could rent a place to workout?"

He pauses at the next display and nods, seeming content with what they have on display this time.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"As far as places to spar I usually end up in Sunnydale." He frowns slightly, considering how often he takes a 'shortcut' to get there, "But that is a bit far away. As far as here, there are a few places. Could just look up a YMCA and go from there."

At Duncan's nod, Nick looks to the display, "Passed the history test?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Much better yes." Duncan replies with a smirk and considers the other words,"I am not familiar with Sunnydale I guess. There is probably a YMCA we can work with yes. They usually have short term setups for this sort of thing."

He looks at a weapon from the Native American's ruling era of the country,"They may have been using primitive weapons in their time, but they were deadly with them. Sometime you should see an at'latl. It could be hand thrown a longer distance than some bows shooting arrows."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"It's several cities over." Nick explains, "I have a few friends who live in the Sunnydale and Fort Joseph area so it's not as big a deal for me to go there from time to time. But it's a bit of a distance to travel. Also I'd probably have to ask the owner first before suggesting it."

He looks over to Duncan as he hints to what a at'latl is. "... Hand thrown. Like a javelin?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Several cities over probably doesn't work no." Duncan agrees. He considers the weapons again and nods,"It was like a javelin, but it could be used with a sling of it's own to send it furthur, almost like a hand held bow string meets a sling." That really would fly with that sort of description,"It's a good way to start the battle into your favor before you get into range of less equipped opponents."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"So- javelin with an added boost." Oversimplying much? Yes. Much so. "Hmm." Nick looks at the display quietly, "What about closer range stuff?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Esentially yes." he replies with a shrug and moves on to look at some of the more 'white' versions of the old west get ups. He smirks a little at a few things, but nothing disapproving,"Once they were closer range it was bows, knives, tomahawks...anything that came to hand at times including their bare hands. Native Americans were good wrestlers. They weren't good at striking and that's part of why they usually couldn't stand in a fight with a white man who was typically a pugilist of one sort or another."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"So Grappling lost out to striking..." Nick sums up, thinking back to the incident with Creed. Ok so by all rights jumping onto the guy and hanging on probably didn't seem like a good play to anyone observing but there was something unseen going on. "But I'm guessing they'd have figured to stop the punches by attempting to pin the arms down." He pauses, glancing to one of the previously rowdy kids standing nearby, listening in on the talk of weapons. "...Hi."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Grappling lost to punching merely because the grapplers had never been hit before." he explains and studies one of the revolvers,"Grappling seems to be more effective now because it is mixed with strikes. The Native Americans worked at tying a person up with their body, but not in submissions. Eventually someone would slip a grab and the puches fell."

He pauses as you look towards the kids and nods to them as they listen,"So some of the deeper southern Native Americans became the deadliest grapplers in the world. They still are in most cases."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
'Dooodledee Doodledee Dooodledee doooo.'

"Oop- Sorry. I should probably get that." Nick glances down as the vintage ringtone errupts from his pocket, causing for him to pull out an old nokia candy bar phone, screen smashed but still apparently functioning despite that.

'Dooodledee Doodledee Doo-'

The ringtone cuts off as Nick answers, "Hey, can you hold a sec? - ok. Good."

Nick looks over to Duncan, giving an apologetic smile, "How about I give you a call later once I get more of a lockdown on the YMCA spot?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He nods as you take the call, still considering the display and pointing a few things to the kids, pistols and rifles. You know, the good old things all children are built on. He glances back towards you when you make ready to leave,"You have my number. I'll be around for a while yet. A few new clients have contacted me." He waves and moves on to the next display with a new parade of followers.
