A Breath Of Fresh Air
Date of Scene: 23 May 2020
Location: Shannon's Room (East Halls), Xavier's School
Synopsis: Shannon and Megan clear the air, and both decide to keep their distance from Josiah.
Cast of Characters: Nightingale, Pixie

Nightingale has posed:
It had been maybe a week or so since Shannon had begun to give Josiah something of a chance. There had been some very nice times so far, but there were also things that, if she were only to admit them privately to herself, were a little bit concerning. So for a few days, she ahd been mostly distancing herself from her fellow healer to sort out her thoughts and feelings on the matter.

She had mentioned her romantic dilemma once to Megan, about who to choose, and now it seemed her answer was more clear. But it didn't make things any easier. Frustrated and a little bit agitated, she sets her electric teakettle to boiling, and gets a chamomile teabag ready for when the water boils. Somehow, things always seemed better over a good cuppa.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn had been trying to clear her head for a bit now..It didn't help that her mind had been eased with by The Goblin Prince, who had inputted some negative thoughts and feelings into her head, only serving to magnify those feelings of jealousy and bitterness..Even as her mind was cleared of the negative influence, some of those memories had remained, leaving her mind a bit clouded and confused.

So it's perhaps inevitable that they would have to deal with the elephant in the closet, sooner rather than later. Still, she's a bit anxious as she knocks on the door to Shannon's room.

Nightingale has posed:
The day hadn't been /all/ bad, to be fair. There had been a massive victory for the healer in training that day, the thought of which still left her with lingering feelings of elation and yes, even pride. But there were also niggling little red flags over affairs of the heart that had to be dealt with. The idea had just been crossing Shannon's mind to seek Megan out, when there's a knock at her door. "Yes? Who is it?" she calls out.

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn draws a deep breath, Kitty had told her to be herself, even though she can be a bit..Impulsive but..."Ummm Hii, Shannon? It's me, Megan..Can I come in for a moment?" she seems nervous, and perhaps this was a bad idea but..

Nightingale has posed:
The elephant just came harrumphing out of the closet, demanding to be dealt with. NOW. But in such a cute and nervous voice that it was impossible to say no! Shannon smiles faintly and opens the door. "C'mon in. I was just putting the kettle on, if you'd like a cup? Got some chamomile ready to hand if you want." If there was one thing the two young women had in common, it was a love of that humble herb, so unassuming and yet such a blessing.

She herself takes a bit of a deep breath. "I was meaning to come talk to you anyways. You just beat me to it."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn oohs, peering at the kettle, "Mmm camomile tea, sounds good! How can I say no to that?" she giggles, skipping in. Hey, he's looking a bit more like her old self already. she pauses, arching a brow, "Um really? You wanted to talk to me?" though she's not too surprised. Things have been fairly tense between them lately.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, opting to simply rip the band-aid off and get it over with. "Yeah. About Josiah." There, it was said. "As much as I like him... please tell me I'm not the only one seeing some red flags here?"

The kettle is whistling merrily, and she flicks the switch on the side to turn it off. A second cup and teabag are prepared, water poured into both cups, and one of them passed over to Megan. "There's nothing that can't be solved over a good cuppa. Wisdom from my grandma before she passed."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn blinks slowly as that name is mentioned, biting her lip and glancing at her hands. "Umm..I guess I was pretty confused when he started showing interest in me, telling me he cares about us both equally..But choosing you over me." she laughs nervously. "I mean, it kinda hurt but.." she shrugs, "I promised myself I wouldn't get upset about it, because I don't really have a right to feel that way.Right? He's with you now and you two seem happy together.."r
Dark maroon eyes peer over at the kettle thoughtfully, reaching for the offered cup. "Thanks, I love herbal tea.." she takes a few sips of it thoughtfully.

Nightingale has posed:
"See, that right there... that's one red flag." Shannon purses her lips and sighs a little, letting her breath waft over the cup of tea to cool it down slightly before taking a sip. "And then after that, it feels like he's continued to show interest in us both. Plus, before we even had a first picnic by the lake, he came in here to talk and... yeah, I think if Sam or Logan ever got wind of this one, they'd be neutering him, post-haste." She grimaces a little bit. "There was a remark about being 'cliche teenagers', and he sort of gestured towards my bed. I almost threw him out right there, but went over to the sitting area instead, and he took the hint."

The more Shannon talked about it, the more she saw the trouble she could be heading for if she continued seeing Josiah. But he had his nice moments, and could be kind--which made this all the more painful. "And then when we were having the picnic, he actually talked about planning a first kiss by the second date, just so I wouldn't 'feel pressured' to on the first date. And then just yesterday, there was a cookout happening in Bushwick which he was helping out with, and... yeah... there's no easy way to say this but he was talking up an exotic dancer. And she didn't look too comfortable."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn peers into her tea thoughtfully, a soft frown marring her features. "...Wow. Seriously?" she takes a few slow sips of her tea, trying to figure that one out. "Are you freaking kidding me? I mean..I was willing to forget about him and move on, and I thought you two were happy together but.."

Her frown deepens when she speaks of the exotic dancer. "Woah, this guy..I dunno, that's just kinda messed up you know?" Megan sighs, "Honestly, I think we're both better off without him. I for one, am gonna keep my distance from him. I mean sure he can be nice sometimes but...I guess maybe he doesn't have experience with treating girls right or something? Wonder if he's part of one of those weird super religious cults or something.."

Nightingale has posed:
"I can't lie about that either. There have been some nice moments, some bits of happiness." Shannon sighs deeply, a tear running down her face for the first time during this whole conversation. "And yeah, while he's said he hasn't had much experience trying to talk to girls... I'm sorry, but there's just too many little things cropping up, and I have a feeling it will only continue."

Shannon perches on the edge of her bed, ducking her head, her shoulders starting to shake and her wings to furl themselves around her. "A few moments of happiness aren't worth it, when they're outweighed by all these red flags. I think that choice I mentioned to you once is pretty darn clear now. I'm way better off with Drake. Josiah... he can maybe be a friend, and yeah okay, we're both healers, so a colleague, but that. Is. IT."

Pixie has posed:
Megan Gwynn hmms, "Just be cautious around him, even if he remains just a friend...I dunno. It may be good to talk to a grown up too, maybe Mr. Summers or Ms. Grey would be good to talk to." she shrugs, "Who knows? maybe he just needs more training or something but definitely, if he makes you feel uncomfortable, you should be cautious around him.." she sighs, "I'm sorry Shannon, I hated feeling bitter, maybe even a little jealous, but really, this is all his fault, pitting us against each other like that. I don't know Drake we'll but he does seem nice.."

Nightingale has posed:
She manages a light chuckle through the tears, and shrugs. "I'm surprised he picked me out of the group that day at the mall instead of you. You're so bubbly and sweet and kind... me, I'm just kind of quiet, serious, maybe sometimes smile... but I can care a whole hell of a lot. And now I know where I have to stick with, ya know. Drake."

On impulse, she reaches over to hug Megan, and manages something of a smile. "Not going to let someone rip up a friendship like that. We're sticking together on this." She pauses and smiles a bit more. "Thank you for just being you, ya know?"
