Date of Scene: 30 May 2020

Synopsis: Duncan trains Nick with some new tricks.
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Duncan MacLeod

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
It is a mid-afternoon Friday and while many folks may be out doing things they couldn't while working or rushing home, or well, other stuff, there isn't much in terms of usage of the reinforced training room located at New Hope. Which is ideal for the time beingas it gives plenty of room to work.

WHUMP!

Nick stares up from his newfound place on the tumbling mat. Momentarily staring at the vent high above. Like last lesson, Nick is dressed down. Nothing designer. Plain. Ordinary. No distinct patterns that distinguish right side from left. It seems to be with him.

He takes a few moments to catch his breath, before he gives a nod. "Ok I think I'm ready to try that again."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Still standing, Duncan watches as he hits the ground. Once Nick has a moment to recover he offers him a hand up,"You noticed. I put my left hand on my head, using my elbow to protect my face, closed in even though you were punching and all you got was a glancing blow, once inside I grabbed your hair with my left, pushed your chin up with my right hand, and your body followed your head. In a real fight, I would have gouged your eyes on the way down as well." he explains, making sure you have your feet before he lets your hand go.

"In a real fight and I knew it was one on one, I would have gone to the ground with you and bounced you head off the ground multiple times." he continues,"Some people say it is dirty fighting or even fighting like a "bitch", but I get up and walk away. The opponent probably will too...eventually." He lets that sink in for you.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick takes the offered hand, pushing himself up with his feet while pulling with the added support of the trainer. "Deflect and set off balance..." He nods, a hint of familiarity in the description. He frowns a bit, "Don't you worry you might go too far with the repeated head bouncing though?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"There is a fine line." he agrees and lets your hand free,"In a life or death situation, I wouldn't care. I have had my fair share of those." Understatement that. He shrugs and continues,"Life happens. I have the highest respect for life, but mine is counted as a part of that. Three is probably enough in non life and death situations. It should jar the brain and probably give the assailant a concussion."

He stretches a few times and lets you get your feet under yourself again,"Krav Maga is used by the Israeli Defense Force for active combat scenarios. As combat goes, it is one of the most dangerous and lethal forms available. I am just showing you a few basic attacks that you can add to your existing abilties. Things to augment your own abilities with."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Alright." Nick moves back into his previous position. Pausing, "Another run through of this or something else?" He pauses, "I'm curious. What branch were you in?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
There is a moment of hesitation, but Duncan finally nods and replies,"I was in the Army. I did my duty and was glad for it to be over." There isn't much elaboration there other than to say,"I saw men die, some at my side and others by my hand."

While he doesn't say he won't say more, it's hard to miss. A moment of consideration and he nods,"We can go through it again. I have some time. There are a few more people that I have to meet with before I go back to Vancouver."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Hmm. Army. Makes sense. Nick doesn't pry beyond that initial question. He gives a slight nod.

"Alright. So last time through then." Nick acknowledges, not wanting to bogart all of the man's time. "Barring the Punisher thing, have you been enjoying New York?"

When he gets the indication that Duncan is ready, he sets forward, both hands in fists and one moving at the same set speed as last time in the same manner. Repeating what he knows won't work? Madness- Except, there are things you miss the first time through and with Duncan explaining it earlier he knows better what to observe.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
You know what to expect, so your punches do come closer, but they still deflect mostly by the elbow. He moves his head a little to make up for the closer one, taking his head offline from your attack,"Good!" he comments when you manage to catch the edge of his cheek. Rather than the hair grab this time he turns his shoulder and hip into you and uses the second punch for a grip, leverage sending you sailing over his shoulder.

He steps back again, giving you a second to get your bearings and tells you,"Your opponent's momentum can carry them to their own defeat. Never underestimate and always be ready to help them along."

He considers his words for a moment and tells you,"From here to have a choice between mercy and malice. You can withdraw quickly or you can opt to deliver kicks to the back, neck, or head." He cups his hands and claps them,"You can destroy equilibrium temporarily, but instantly by clapping over the opponents ears. Reach through and rake eyes. The options are pretty limitless."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Whee! Thunk. Nick gets to see the floor this time before starts to push himself up. Similar result but a different road to get there. He gives a nod, getting up, opening his mouth briefly but pausing, "Well, thanks for the lesson. I do appreciate you taking the time to show me this stuff."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
If you want a hand up you get it, otherwise he lets you get up on your own,"It's my pleasure." he assures you,"There were plenty of people who have taught me things in my past. I am just passing it on. What is the popular expression now...." he considers what he is looking for, but shakes his head and moves on.

He looks back to you, attention back to the task at hand,"Next time I will teach you how to pull a ground guard, use chokes, and joint locks. That should give you a pretty deep tool box. If you can find someone that could teach you combat wrestling I highly recommend it. Your balance and body awareness would be greatly increased."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Combat Wrestling?" Nick repeats. He chuckles, "I think I know a person who can help with that. They hang around the person who helps me with my stick work."

He gives a sigh, "Well, glad you are passing the information along. Hopefully it'll help the next time I run into trouble."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Ultimately, I want you to try to find your way without combat, try to find a way to avoid the conflict all together." he explains and smiles when you mention working with the sticks,"Escrema. I wondered." he muses.

He considers for a /long/ moment before he admits,"I prefer the sword myself. I have trained with the bo staff, kama, nunchaku, and long bow for archery." The guy really does have some miles on him it seems."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"I started off in music as a Drummer." Nick replies, giving a bit of a smile, "Used to holding them. When it came time to pick, it seemed like a natural choice."

As he listens to Duncan listing off his weapons, Nick gives a tilt of the head. "That is a lot... She's got a lot of weapons under her belt as well. She'd probably like to meet someone like you. Talk shop and all."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Curious, Duncan asks,"She?" He doesn't seem like he'll object, but you might get the impression he doesn't talk about a lot of the more serious things. The two of you are training, that's a little different,"The one that works with you on your stick work?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick nods, "She doesn't look it when you first see her but she's an extremely good fighter, and she'd probably love to get more people to spar and maybe trade notes with if possible." He pauses, "Agility and Brute Strength bundled together into a tiny package."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
There is a nod and he admits,"I'll admit I'd be interested in meeting her. Never underestimate your opponent. You are your own worst enemy in those instances." he explains.

"I am always interested in exchanging notes and potentially learning new things. No matter how old you get or how well you train, you always have to be open to new experiences. Take what works best for you and leave the rest."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"And I bet a lot of people who don't know her do that." Nick states, "Underestimating that is." He nods, rubbing a wrist as he continues, "So, okay. I'll let her know and make sure she has your number then."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Confidence is good, cockiness will kill you." he warns in a way that doesn't exactly sound like the Duncan you have come to know and more just quoting someone from his past. There is a nod and he replies,"Sure give her my number. If I can't answer just tell her to leave me a message. The advantages and disadvantages of working for yourself and not having a partner anymore. The phone is almost as bad as a leash, but I can't make a living without it."
