Morning On The Lawn
Date of Scene: 06 June 2020
Location: Backyard - Xavier's School
Synopsis: A general gathering of various people in the morning to talk.
Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Red, Wolverine, Cyclops, Nightingale

Phoenix has posed:
It's promising to be a hot and humid day. At midmorning, it's starting to get to both in a hurry. Out on the lawn, some students are out kicking around a soccer ball. In the distance, a few can be heard staking a claim at the pool. Absently watching over it all is Jean.

The headmistress is in a tiered white peasant skirt to her knees, with an embroidered red leather belt and an olive green tank top. She's sitting at one of the tables next to a bush blooming with vines with one strap sandaled foot tapping to music she's listening to through a set of in ear headphones. She's picking around a bowl of fruit and yogurt while flipping through the news on an iPad.

Red has posed:
Alice stretches some as she gets out of the back door of the school to the patio, glancing out onto the yards and acres belonging to the school. The white blouse and red tartan skirt on her body combine with what has become pretty much her common style of franky impossible faux leather boots, the patterend Polyvinylchloride lacking any zipper, loops and lace to actually close them, telling that they have been molded in place.

After some long moments of just staring to the lands, she takes out a pair of blocks from plastic. It's chunks of Acrylonitrile styrene acrylate, ASA, which is similar to acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, ABS, but not the same. One's red, the other white. Leaning onto the edge of the patio, she tries to concentrate, trying to make work on both parts at once, which is more than problematic...

Phoenix has posed:
Apparently the news this morning isn't dreadfully depressing garbage, because Jean can be heard quietly singing to whatever's in her ears as her foot taps and head bobs. Good mood then, which bodes well for everyone who needs to ask her something today.

"....ay oh ay oh ay oh ay, and the voices rang like the angels sing. We're singing Ay oh ay oh-- Alice! Good morning." Right, she's not alone. That's not embarrassing at all, nope. Clearing her throat quietly, she taps against the one bud in her ear to shut off the music. "What's that you have?"

Wolverine has posed:
Logan has decided to grace the mansion with his presence this morning. He needed to grab something from the big house before returning to his. He's in a less grumpy mood than usual. Wonder what made that come on? But he's still a grump. That's obvious. As he reaches the treeline he stops, finds himself a nice hiding spot next to a majestic oak, and watches as Jean and Alice talk.

Red has posed:
Alice spins the head at the call of her name, blinking a moment as the attempt to form a tendril from both blocks at once is aborted. "Oh hey, Miss Grey!" she answers, smiling a little. "How's the morning for you? Oh, I'm trying to fork on fine control, but it's hard. I mean, it's super hard to work on both sides at once..." she explains, putting the two chunks onto the railing.

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey pops out her earphones to case and pocket them. "Isn't a bad morning so far, just grabbing some breakfast and catching up on the news." She looks more closely to the cubes Alice holds from her vantage point at the table, "The fine control was always a hard thing for me too, especially for extended periods. It's all about the practice. It's something I still work on."

Though she doesn't need the fine tuning to recognize the presence that makes itself known. She keeps a low level conscious tab on the grounds at nearly all times, most of it just faint background noise and only the unusual drawing her focus. The school is a myriad of souls that are a comfortable, familiar hum in her skull. This particular hum earns her direct attention.

<< Good morning, Logan. >> He'd hear in his head, pleasant and warm. << What've I told you about lurking? >>

Cyclops has posed:
Heading out front is Scott, who is dressed in a pair of khaki boardshorts and a solid white t-shirt. He has a waterbottle strapped to his arm, along with his phone on the other with his earbuds in. It looks like he may have been on the way for a jog. As he spies Jean and Alice, he gives a smile on his face. "Morning." He calls over, heading towards Jean first so that he can lean in and brush a kiss to her cheek. He seems to be in an upbeat mood as well as his arms circle her for a quick hug.

"I love Saturdays." He says frankly as he takes a seat next to the red head. "Hey Alice. What's going on in your world?" He takes his earbuds out, pocketing them.

Red has posed:
"Yea... The thing is, as long as it's one solid mass or touching? All fine. But two different chunks? REALLY hard. I mean, flip-flop back and forth gets some things done, but that's not the what I was trying." Alice stretches, again, pondering a little, but then Scott appears, pulling off the attention.

"Morning mister Summers. Just trying to work on control. But even if you love saturdays, what's on your mind? I've seen enough bad acting to recognize you're not as smooth as you look today."

Wolverine has posed:
He hugs the tree tightly till Jean's voice fills his head. << I am not lurking. >> Logan iterates as he peeks around the tree lurking. << I'm just watching you be a teacher. >> He sniffs the air and smells Scott before the other man shows. There is always the smell of cologne and a slight scent of freshly cut lumber. << Unlike other people. >> he comments.

Phoenix has posed:
"Saturdays are his day to spend in the garage without needing to come up with excuses." Jean says with a quick returning peck to Scott's cheek before looking back to her breakfast and grabs a grape to pop in the side of her mouth.

<< That's called lurking. Come socialize. >> Is her returned, silent retort to Logan.

"Now summer Saturdays are even better. I'm glad to get down to the hard business of watching everyone just have fun. For the most part. There's still work to do, always will be."

Cyclops has posed:
"Saturdays are my day off, outside of teaching autoshop for extra credit. I don't have to wear a tie." Scott says as he gives a grin, hooking an arm about Jean's shoulders. "There is no bad acting, I can just let my hair down once in awhile when I'm allowed to." He says as if pointedly looking at Jean.

"What type of control are you working on?" He ask, trying to remember exactly what her power set is. With a hundred students or more at any given time, sometimes he gets one mixed up with the other.

Red has posed:
Alice sighs a little, pointing to the two chunks of plastic on the railing. "Working on two chunks at once, but there is a LOT of bad acting. Think about Tom Cruise in Last samurai. That's bad acting. Two facial expressions while Watanabe plays him against the wall." Yea, she's the plastic bender, so to say.

Wolverine has posed:
<< I'm not a teacher like the two of you. I don't know where I can help out. Especially about control >> You know since he has none. But he might as well make an appearance. After all, he is on an important mission. He ran out of coffee.

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey grimaces from her seat, but it doesn't look to be due to sour fruit. "Tom Cruise is just bad in general. If he wasn't hot he would not have gotten far, but he didn't age super great either." She plucks up a mug of cooled off coffee and takes a sip before looking over towards Scott. "Speaking of class, is the lift fixed or are you going to need a hand with the mental hoist? I meant to check in on that but it slipped my mind." As for Logan, she said her bit, she wouln't force him to come out into the sun.

Wolverine has posed:
Almost from nowhere a voice can be heard. "That's because Mr. Sciencetology doesn't understand the Bushido. It's not something you can learn in a week t' ready yourself for a role. It's a lifestyle one must live t' understand. That's why Watanabe was more believable. And Cruise likes to run." Logan remarks as he walks up the steps to the porch.

Cyclops has posed:
"Tom Cruise is incredible, Jean. Have you not seen Top Gun?" Scott looks incredulous. "I thought I knew you. I'm wounded now." He says as he leans back, giving her a wry grin upon his face before his features smooth out.

As far as the lift goes, he says, "Yeah, I could use a hand with it, if you don't mind. It's not too pressing, but I was going to get to it after my workout." Though now that Logan has made his appearance, he levels his eyes at him, his brows scrunching upwards.

Red has posed:
"In general, but in LAst Samurai? Totally just a name and body to sell it." Alice notes on the Cruise matter, chiming in to Logan's side. "Watanabe on the other hand played in the Taiga Dramas about the second world war when he started out, he is japanese and had played Samurai back since being casted as Date Masamune in 1987. He was the Narrator for the Takeda Shingen Movie in 1990 and played exclusively Samurai in 91 and 92. He doesn't just know how to play samurai, he possibly IS samurai." she pretty much makes a short lecture, fuled by working in a propshop and costume shop.

"Top gun wasn't bad, but plays much closer to home for Cruise. I mean, Dances with wolves and last samurai place him in areas that he has no relation to. Cruise started out as an actor in love movies and cadet. He's not someone to cast for a western or westerner in asia but for name."

Phoenix has posed:
"I am neither a pop culture expert nor master of Japanese culture." Jean says as she carefully withdraws her opinions from the debate. She does slant Scott a sidelong look, "You're not bleeding. Anyway, let me know if you don't get the lift working. I'll be around. So, just in case, I should go make a few calls that I need to get done before the day gets any later." She gets up out of her chair to collect her iPad and her mostly empty bowl of fruit and coffee cup. "I'll catch up with you all later."

Wolverine has posed:
As the other two teaches leave. Logan is left standing there, with Alice, not sure what to say. He knows about practical things. His taste in movies and music are twice the age of her. See there is a reason he's kept apart from the students. And this is one such reason. He's the best at what he does and it sure as hell not being.. well this. And there he stands, staring at her, like a muscle-bound beer-guzzling monster deer/wolverine hybrid in headlights.

Red has posed:
Alice stretches some as she eyes over Logan while Jean and Scott slip into the house a few moments. "No opinion on Watanabe's samurainess? I mean, you said that he might know his bushido. Or did the cat get your tongue?"

Wolverine has posed:
Might know Bushido? I lived it for quite a few years." Logan eyes seem to glass over as he remembers a different time. "I was a gaijin who was taught under the tutelage of a great master of an old family. Not unheard of at the time." He stops not going any further in the story. As it is too hard to speak of. "So can I speak of Bushido? Hai!" he says with a quick nod of his head. His thumbs even slip into his belt.

Red has posed:
"So you're like... The Bride from Kill Bill in some regards?" Alice answers, pondering. "Though probably less being taught by some elusive Hattori Hanzo who had hung up his hammer to never make a blade again and only breaking that promise to make a blade to wipe out his mistake... though... That movie was heavily influenced by Lady Snowblood..."

Wolverine has posed:
Pulling a cigar from his pocket, Logan goes through motions to ready the cigar. Once ready he lights it and takes a deep pull causing the end to burn bright. He glances to Alice as she talks about Kill Bill. As he blows out the smoke he smirks. "I would say I'm more a failed Samurai. And as for that movie, it was still highly a Hollywoodized version of the truth."

Red has posed:
"Failed Samurai, huh? Ran-Failed or Sanyuro-failed?" she asks, naming two Kurosawa films. "Or 7 samurai like?" She's almost serene as she shrugs. "Kill Bill is a tarantino based on a Manga, of course it is not truth in the slightest. It's a Tarantino, and that means a feast of blood, sex, and camera work for the gods."

Nightingale has posed:
On a warm, sunny day like today, with no classes and not much to do by way of any sort of practice or training, it was a rare opportunity to just /be/. And for one familiar winged resident of the mansion, that meant a thermos full of iced coffee, her laptop, and MIDI keyboard controller. She's in some light blue cutoff shorts, a simple white t-shirt, and for once is barefoot, enjoying the feel of the grass between her toes. There is a pair of flip-flops with daisies on the toes nearby, as she's sitting cross-legged in the grass, humming a few notes as if testing something, then tapping away at her laptop, presumably entering in what she comes up with.

The conversation at hand does catch her attention, and she turns her head to peer over, listening for a moment. This could be interesting....

Wolverine has posed:
"Trust me when you train it's hard, but all things are. But the peace and honor you receive, it's worth it. Way better then any movie." He takes another lung full of smoke and blows it out. "I strongly recommend it." Logan looks at Alice directly now. "When you graduate here, you should go to Japan. But don't look in Tokyo. There are no real samurai there. Search the countryside for a family willing to take you in and teach you. And just think of it as a graduate course or a doctorate."
