Date of Scene: 06 June 2020
Location: Fred's Diner - Mutant Town
Synopsis: Duncan and Nick grab something to eat after practice
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Duncan MacLeod

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
With the evening hours in full swing and the dinner menu fully unlocked. Fred's Diner is experiencing a decent amount of business for those who do not typically partake in a normal eating schedule. They're not packed but, they're not completely empty either. With the later hours, the clientelle inside are more colorful than normal. Bright pinks, blues, and greens are not colorations confined to just the clothing and hair. The line cook is also seeming a bit more relaxed as well despite his scowls at the grill top while he fiddles with the dial.

It is into this scene Nick leads, seeking something to quell the appetite built up during training. His attire is a little different than usual. He opted not to put the knit cap on. For one the weather has forced him to switch over to ballcaps now. But for two, he's still cooling off. There's no jacket. Just loose fitting pants, a tee, and his hair pulled back to a tiny blip of a pony tail. He holds the door open for the person behind him "Pretty good place to go when it's late at night. Long hours and reasonably relaxed."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Looking around the place, Duncan reads the crowd and then room with a hint of amusement,"You always take me to the most interesting of places." he muses aloud. Still, he doesn't seem bothered by it, just amused. Cooling off from a training session as well, he left his coat in the rental care and is just wearing a light pair of black slacks and a pull over, plain white knit short sleeved shirt.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"I get around a lot." Nick replies, matter of factly in response to Duncan's assessment, starting to head to the counter area before he sees which line cook is working and what he's currently focusing on.

Recognition flashing upon his face, he turns, moving towards a booth instead. "I also know it's going to feel like sitting at a hibachi table up there soon enough."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"It's always good to be well travelled." he replies with a nod and lets Nick show the way since he knows the place already. Not familiar with the cooks, he doesn't really have an opinion there.
The course to the table changes and Duncan shrugs as he moves along,"I've been warm enough for one night." he agrees and takes a seat once Nick chooses where to sit.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
As the pair slides into their respective booths, Nick reaches over to the menus tucked behind the napkin dispenser and hands one over to Duncan, before opening his.

"THAT'S IT!"

A bright flare of light comes from over to the countertop area where the line cook blows flame out of his mouth on to the grill top, heating up the surface rapidly. Even from where they're sitting the temperature goes up a couple degrees but the AC of the diner takes upon the challenge to blow the assault to the senses away.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Duncan takes the menu and glances back at the sound coming from the kitchen. He raises a brow and then looks back at you with a hint of surprise,"A mutant cook? Interesting." He doesn't say it loud and doesn't seem bothered by it really,"This city is never a dull moment. I don't know what I'll do once I go back to Vancouver. It's going to be almost boring."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"You'll probably catch up on the sleep you're missing over here." Nick comments glancing up from his menu, giving a shrug. "It's called Mutant Town for a reason. Got some pretty nice people living and working in the area. Plus, they're not sticklers for dress codes so you can just be whatever." He glances over to the grill top and then to a display case. "Think I'll keep it simple and just get the burger."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"I've lived through and seen things that are just as strange or worse." he admits and doesn't expand on it,"I assumed there was something to the name. We see the occasional appearance of Alpha Flight, but nothing like what I have seen here." He considers the menu and nods,"Simple is best sometimes." he agrees and opts for the same, a side of fries as well. He looks at the grill,"So this whole area is a haven for mutants? They deserve something, considering what has been done to them."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, New York has always been a place of many cultures being crammed together into one city but still managing to maintain their separate identities." He looks over to the counter, giving a nod to the waitress as she gives a questioning look. "Safety in numbers. People tend to congregate to where they feel safest."

The waitress walks over, pen in one hand, notepad in another, with a third angling, resting the nuckles of that hand against her hip as she starts to take their orders.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
The irony of the safety in numbers comment isn't lost on Duncan considering as a general rule there is no safety in numbers of his kind. Nick doesn't know that of course and Duncan doesn't enlighten him for obvious reasons.
He turns his attention to the three armed lady and offers her a polite nod, making his order when she is ready to take it. His attention back to Nick and he tells him,"New York has always been the melting pot of the world, whether good or bad."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick gives his order as well, smiling to the waitress before she heads back. He looks over to Duncan. "Melting pot." He repeats, giving a shake of the head. "I've heard that phrase a lot but there's a description I heard that seems more appropriate." He nods to the persons seated near the bar, "If it was truly a melting pot. Would they be so openly showing their differences or hiding them? New York is more...a salad bowl. Separate flavors, somewhat influencing the neighboring pieces but not fully changing what the other pieces are."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He considers what you say, the waitress getting another smile as she goes. He looks back at you and nods,"Well. I could see that. The first time I was in New York..." he considers the words for a long, quiet moment and finally comments,"...different. A lot. There was racism and separation then too, but not so distinct as it is now."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick looks curiously at Duncan as he pauses before describing the differences in separation. "...Just how long ago are you talking about? We're not that different in age unless y-" He pauses, thinking of Petra and Indy. "...Let me guess, you're young looking for your age."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He laughs softly and touches his cheek,"Let's just say I have the epitome of a baby face. I was carded in my last alcohol purchase and it wasn't that long ago."
"If I grow a beard people are more accurate in guessing my age." he offers,"Not that I am heart broken. It appeals to a slight case of vanity I guess." Scottish Canadians. Who can figure?

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Hmm." Nick nods, "I got that problem too. Kind of have a forever 21 thing going on as well. But I did not get carded when I had the facial hair for the Call of the Wild gig."

He chuckles, giving a nod to the server as she drops off their drinks of choice at the table. "Okay so we're both older than we look. You, based off of conversation and fighting alone, I dare say more so. But, we'll skip the specfics."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He smirks a little and tells you,"Just say I have seen the back side of twenty and most of thirty." There is a shrug and he nods to the waitress as well,"Thank you." he murmurs to her. Back to you,"It's a good problem to have really. It tends to make people underestimate you."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Maybe, but it's a pain in the ass to renew your IDs." Nick responds back, shaking his head. He turns, setting his menu back behind the napkin dispenser. "But...I'm ok with a bit of misdirection and understimation so..." He shrugs.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"You make a good point." he agrees, putting aside his own menu,"You learn to take advantage of the situation in time." He takes a drink and sets the glass back down.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, something tells me I got plenty of time to figure it out." Nick pauses as the klunk of the plates setting upon the table surface draws his attention to the food. He glances to the server and smiles, "Thanks. Looks good."

Sliding his plate closer, he picks up his burger.
