Synopsis: Alice takes summer classes at the Librarian... eh... Doc McCoy
Cast of Characters: Red, Beast

Red has posed:
High School's Out, College classes are on summer break or exam period and a lot of the students are pretty much in summer mood. Some might spend a few weeks at home, others might just chill. But Alice? Seems to be rather restless. Having been thrown into Xavier's college program in april by invitation of Kitty, she's one semester behind the others, missing some classes, even if she did her best to try to catch up. There's gaps. But then again she has somethign the others don't work experience.

Sitting in the foyer with a good old paper notebook, she seems to wait for *someone*.

Beast has posed:
Making his way out of the kitchen, equipped with a rather large sandwich in one hand and a book in the other, Doctor McCoy walks softly towards the front door that leads outside. He's not too completely absorbed in either his food or his reading material to miss the young lady that's already there. Noticing the choice she's made with regard to something to record on a faint smile appears on his face as he greets her, "Salutations. You look almost as though you're prepared to receive instruction this morning, but that can't be, can it?"

Red has posed:
"Eh, I am kinda used to get up early, Bones.. I mean Dr. McCoy." Yes, she jsut called him pretty much Leonard McCoy! Someone here knows her Movies. "And I do kinda was looking to try to make up for missing classes from the last winter semester. I mean, I joined in april, so into the summer semester." she sighs a short moment, then goes back to some sorta smile. "Also, I was pondering about the New Mutants program and stuff, and Miss Grey mentioned you might love some sample from whatever suit this Superman guy wears or work on something similar. Anyway, you happen to have any summer classes to make up missing credit or prerequisites?"

Beast has posed:
"Bones, eh? Quite the compliment," Hank replies with a smile on his face as he moves to sit down near Alice. As he gets comfortable, which doesn't take long thanks to his unique physique, McCoy nods his head a few times, "I certainly do offer tutelage during the summer, for those with the desire to further their education regardless of season. If you would like extra instruction as well, that can be arranged. Science is fundamental to our understanding of our experiences, after all." As she goes on his smile never fades, except when he takes a bite of his sandwich. Once he's gotten it down he continues, "The New Mutants program? I'd be more than happy to find out any information about it that you'd require." Then he nods, "I would very much like to analyze any sort of extraterrestrial material that I could get my hands on safely."

Red has posed:
Alice blushes a tiny bit at the note that Bones might be a compliment. "Well, better than calling you Librarian." Listening, she drives a hand through her red hair, sorting it a moment before shrugging. "Well, my special talent does kinda base on some sort of science. As far as I can tell, polymer materials are like abundant. Like, I noticed Paper is technically poly-cellulose fibers interwoven into some messed up mesh held together in some way while cotton is the same stuff but just intertwined and then the combined fibers woven into a structured pattern. Pretty similar to how something like ABS can become more structured and less amoprph if.. what's the term for heating over a longer time again.."

"Anyway, Miss Grey mentioned something like that, I mean, that you'd like to get your hands on such a material. It came up when I talked to her about the uniforms and I just mentoned at the side that the news shows his as pretty indestructible. Though, that came up the question of what kinds of materials could be used that I can work with.. I'm rambling ain't I?"

Beast has posed:
"The best of us tend to ramble from time to time," the teacher says with a friendly smile, looking quite relaxed as he takes another bite of his food. His head nods slightly, "It sounds as though it would be quite beneficial for you to study chemistry to help you understand your abilities better. I always have courses on chemistry and biology, including the summer semester." The smiles on his face almost looks permanent now as he's found such an eager student. "Having indestructible uniforms available to us would be wonderful, but until we can get Superman to lend us a sample there are numerous other polymers we can work with to find a good medium for creating our attire. With your help I'm certain we can find new ways to construct what we need out of more durable materials." He pauses, lost in thought momentarily, "We should do some experiments. Can you weave synthetic fibers together? If so we might be able to devise something more durable than kevlar that works in a similar fashion."

Red has posed:
"It's not like I can transform one polymer into another, but I do have worked with composites to get the right look and feel on Cosplay costumes before. Like, put a stiff voroni-tesselated skeleton into a soft foam to give it structure. Not that I did calculate that thing myself, I asked a coworker to run a model of it through some software. Just to keep the weight down."

Alice nods a little on the question. "I can re-shape polymers, so if the fibers are of the right thing, I might. Though yea, that'd warrant some experimentation.

Beast has posed:
"Very interesting," Hank says, considering the young woman's words. His head nods slowly, "Very interesting, indeed." As he thinks things through he finishes off the last of his food, chewing thoughtfully. "I'll need to do some research, see if I can find harder polymers to attempt to work with that can't normally be utilized in these fashions. Using your powers might enable some significant advances." His mind is going a mile a minute, thinking through chemical compositions of various polymers and how they might be utilized best. "I'm going to need to go to the lab and run some data through my computers, but I think we're on to something really big here."

Red has posed:
"I'm not very good with computers, but if you can get me a 3D model of something or enough different angles on paper, I guess I can make most shapes with the stuff. I mean, that's how I made props, molds and models in the shop. But it's not fast if it gets really complex. I mean, that armor with the skeleton in it took some hours because it was like highly detailed on the surface atop being like a composite and then there were some... dozen layers of paint. Painting is something that's got to be done traditionally as far as I know. Paint just ain't following my will usually."

Beast has posed:
"I can certainly whip up some 3D models for you," Hank says with a smile. "Let me stretch my computer based modeling skills a little bit." Her other words leave the man considering things for a moment. "I imagine the outside of any sort of armor I'd ask you to construct would be the simple part. Weaving together the actual armor itself could be quite complicated. We should look at using something like Zylon, perhaps. I'll see if I can't obtain the necessary quantities for us to experiment with, if you'd like."

Red has posed:
Alice hmms a little at the mentioning of Zylon. "Zylon, Zylon..." A moment she searches for her phone, pulling out Wikipedia. "Ohhhh, that's PBO! The fiber used in some vests wasn't really stable and lead to the callback of a lot of them in the late 2000s. I think if you could shield it properly... well, for composite tests some small sampes would suffice, right? I mean, some 200 gramms or such could esily be requested for sampling from manufacturers, and If it works we don't even need fibers. Pellets or blocks suffice."

Beast has posed:
"Excellent!" McCoy exclaims happily. "I'll need to get on that, then." He seems happy that Alice will be able to work with his idea. "And if it doesn't work for defensive needs we might be able to use it in other areas what could require high strength, highly heat resistant fibers." His book is nearly forgotten thanks to this new line of thought, the conversation keeping his mind quite active. "Is there anything you've wanted to experiment with but not had access to that we might be able to obtain or synthesize?"

Red has posed:
"Well, I got plenty of experience with EVA and PVC and PLA and ABS. The common stuff, but if you can get your fingers on other stuff I'd be happy to test on them. Eh, for that summer class... when you think wuld be a good time?

Beast has posed:
"I'll finalize my class schedule later today and send you an email," Hank says to the student with a nod. "Make sure that everyone gets the necessary amount of classroom experience and I get some time to myself for experimentation and personal study." The teacher chuckles softly, "It's a hard balance, educating people while trying to expand my own knowledge."

Red has posed:
Alice nods. "Ah, thank you Dr. McCoy. I'm mostly free so it's probably more upon you than anything else to schedule the whole thing."

Beast has posed:
"You're most welcome," says the instructor with a nod and a smile on his face. "For now, however, I've got to read this book. It's about biomechanical engineering. All theoretical, of course, but it's supposed to be most fascinating. I'd like to see if I could implement any of the theories espoused by its authors into some of my experimentation to help powered individuals who have difficult controlling their abilities. I can lend it to you after I complete it, if you'd like? Though it won't be on any of the assignments or tests for some time, probably. Not until the experiments produce verifiable results."
