About the New Mutants...
Date of Scene: 25 June 2020
Location: Library - Xavier's School
Synopsis: What does it take to join the New Mutants? Talking to their leader!
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Red, Nightingale

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie is in the library. He picked up a few new books on his trip through some old book stores for sci-fi/fantasy stuff he has not read. He figured might as well add to the schools library as well. He is humming a song softly to himself as he works.

Red has posed:
Alice yawns a little as she slips into the library, brushign her hair into shape a moment before she gazes along the aisles to see who is there. It takes her a minute or two to walk along the rows, her eyes wandering, before she spots Samuel, speeding her steps some. "You're Sam Gutrie, right? The New Mutants team lead?" she asks, giving him a little smile.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and is a bit surprised when someone did not know who he was off the bat, but offers a smile, and says "Thats me yup, and your .. Alice?" He asks as he has studied most of the student's who go here files. "How can I help you?"

Red has posed:
"Just making sure your' the right one. Yea, I'm Alice." She nods as she slips into the row, leaning against the shelf. "Well, I did talk to miss Grey recently and she mentioned I should talk to you about a tenure with the New Mutants and some regulated training."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods a bit to this and says "Ok, well a few things I would like to know. Her idea or yours first off?" He says he is putting books up still but does give her attention as they talk.

Red has posed:
"Her idea of me? Hard to say. I mean, I am not a mindreader but she is that. So hard for me to tell what she thinks of me, right?" Alice responds with a chuckle. "Though she mentioned self defense training and that she found it quite good that I had discussed Pixie's costume with her. Also to keep material on hand I could use, but honestly, you're never more than a layer of sweat away from at least one polymer. That's unless you wear nothing. Though she also told me to try to talk to Dr. McCoy..."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon slips into the library after a snack of vegetables and hummus, looking in a bit of a better frame of mind for some munchies. She has her laptop bag and peripherals with her, looking about for a spot to set up and work in peace. When she spots Sam and Alice, she does wing-wave to the pair, but hangs back, not certain if she is disturbing them or no....

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods a bit and waves his hand to Shannon, and will nod a bit to Alice, and says "And your ultimate goal? Are you wanting to be a full fledge hero, just learn to protect yourself or what?" And I don't think you have to worry about Jean putting an idea in your head, ment did you come to her about joining or did she suggest it."

Red has posed:
"Hm? Eh, well, I actually went to meet her to ask about something and as I spoke abut Pixie she mentioned the New Mutants Program. I mean, Back when I was on a hike with her I couldn't really protect her and that was a bad thing. She was stabbed and all." Alice recouts, sighing a little. "Probably to learn how to defend others?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon frowns slightly and sighs. "I was on that hike too. Neither one of us could prevent her from being stabbed." She lofts her eyebrows, listening to the conversation, and cracking a small smile. "Looking to join up?" Wait, had she been a member all this time?

Listening further, she smiles faintly. "Sounds like you had your 'Daniel moment' there. Now it's just a matter of figuring out what you want to do from here."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and nods. He will put the books he has left on a table to look fully between the two, and says "And you understand in bein this, you will be learning that at times, you put yourself in harms way to proect others, and while we are not ment to go out seekung trouble we work on teaching you how to deal with it?"

Red has posed:
"You just said that. I mean, she didn't tell me much about the program but that there is training in it, but I guess if that's the basis, that's the basis for it." Alice shrugs. "It's not like living in M-Town was safe at good days."

Nightingale has posed:
"Sadly, wherever we go, there is bound to be trouble. We don't have to go looking for it, but it'll find us anyways." Shannon slides her laptop bag off of her shoulder and sets it down at a nearby desk, perching on the edge of the desk itself. "Hell, just yesterday coming out of the burger joint in Salem Center, I got jumped. Got lucky, there was a normal human that actually stuck up for me. Even a seemingly 'safe' place can be somewhere trouble finds you, whether you go looking for it or not."

Glancing over at Sam, she smiles, running her fingers through her hair. "I remember the night Sam offered to have me join up. There had been a mutant rights rally that went south real bad. Kid named Daniel stuck up for what was right, and made the ultimate sacrifice for it. There was no question in my mind then or now, that I wanted to do anything and everything I could to help defend others, so there wouldn't have to be another Daniel." But now, she looks at Alice, with a very serious look. "I'm going to tell you the same thing he told me, though. You can hope and pray, you can work your tailfeathers off and train like there's no tomorrow. But there will be some days where you will fail, and friends may not come home. It's a cost you have to count, to weigh for yourself, and ask yourself, 'Is it worth it to me? Can I deal with it?' Because you cannot save everyone." She lets out a short huff of breath, shaking her head. "Hell, even Logan told me at best, you might be able to help one in five. Just focus on the one, not the other four you failed. Even with the training, you are still only mortal."

Now her lips do curl upwards in a smile, and she leans over to give Sam a hug around the shoulders. "One thing, though. You won't be alone."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Can give you a try out see how you fit and see if it is what your looking for. If your wanting to help others and seeking to be serious about it yea, can be where you want to be. I will need to read up a bit on your abilities to set up a proper challenge for you. So, if I may ask, whats your plans for the future?

Red has posed:
"We shall go on to the end, we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air, we shall defend our Island, whatever the cost may be, we shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills; we shall never surrender, until, in God?s good time, the New World, with all its power and might, steps forth to the rescue and the liberation of the old." Alice answers, letting some moments time, enough for a coin to drop, before adding "Wilson Churchil. Wonder if he'd made a fine X-gene carrier with that kind of attitude. Never give up, never surrender."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon cracks a smile, and nods. "Sounds an awful lot like something Cap told me right around the same time, not long after that rally. Well, there were a lot of somethings, maybe I can tell you one day. But some of it sounded a little bit like that." She nods sagely. "Winston Churchill was one helluva an example, too. And who knows. He might've been an X-gene carrier and never known it."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her and says "A good speech, but unless your telling me your hoping to be the prime minister of England, does not tell me what your hoping for with the future. The New Mutants is not just training you to fight, yes you will be taught to fight, to use your powers more creatively and smoothly but also trying to help prepare you for the future your aiming for.

Red has posed:
"Not said, that, I meant it in the word sense. Never give up, never give up the little groud we secured. X-gene carrier's are just humans too, and those biggots out there have to either accept that or go the way of the dinosaur. No wait, the way of fashism: Getting utterly curbstomped whenever they start something."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon arches her eyebrows, and crosses her arms. Her wings ruffle behind her, extending ever so slightly as if to catch an unseen breeze. "Never give up the little ground we've secured, yes. But getting all up in bigots' faces every time they start shit isn't going to do anybody any good. It'll just give them more reason to hate us. It's one thing if they force your hand. But try to avoid fighting first if at all possible."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie frowns a bit at Alice's words, and nods a bit to Shannon's "Our goal like all those here at the school is not to go out and bust heads, yea at times we have to, but it should not be our go to stance. We are here to change minds. Prejudice can only be stopped by violence in one way and that is genocide. If you go out there and curb stop Freddy, then Freddy's brothers and friends have a reason not to hate and fear us. You go out there, you stop them from harming others, and show people that we can get along that human and mutant are all part of man and womankind.

Red has posed:
"Now you're turning words in my mouth. I said kick them if they start it, not look for them, rouse them from their slumber. I mena like, if purifiers crop up like last year, we need to go out and kick them in a way that it really hurts, and show how low of people they are. If Freddy is a genocidal bastard that tries to send people into camps and work them to death, then butcher them, use their hair for fittings and make lamps from their skins, then Freddy deserves a harsh trial and death by hanging while his family has to learn of his dang misdeeds."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head, and pinches the bridge of her nose. "Yeah, what some bigots out there do is pretty damn despicable. And no, we shouldn't be doormats. But violence like that is pouring gasoline on a fire. It's asking for trouble, and is equally as likely to change minds and hearts for the worse as it is the better."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Well, the way you said it the first time came off a bit more the way I took it, even if not how you ment it, at least it did to me. "So, there is a possibility we can work with you but again, I do ask, where do you see yourself in 5 years?"

Red has posed:
"In a better world with Trask in chains, Purifiers declared terrorists and X-gene carriers as a protected class." Alice answers, shrugging a little. "But besides that I got no real idea."

Nightingale has posed:
Oh, boy. Politics. That was one area Shannon did her best to stay clear of, though that was not always easy at times. She just settles back on her perch on the edge of the desk, ruffling her wings and holding up her hands, shaking her head. Yeah, no, she's not getting in the middle of /that/ one.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to her, and says "Well see that last line was the part Iwas waiting for your allowed to not know what you want to do with yourself, means part of my job is to help you find it, but if I dson't know to look makes it harder

Red has posed:
Alice shrugs, leaing against the shelves. "Well, if school and trying that hero thing isn't for me, I can still go back to making costumes."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon seems to think about this a second. "You're pretty good at making costumes," she begins. "But just how finely can you manipulate polymers with your ability? Would you be able to work with them to say, make a fabric stronger, more resistant to blunt damage, like Kevlar but lighter and flexible?" There. Let her sit and stew on /that/ thought. Maybe it would spark others.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and will pull out his phone and look up Alice's classes she has taken and any she is taking checking her chemistry scores and such.

Red has posed:
"I don't change what the stuff is. I can change its shape. Play with density a little by including air and voids and it's crysaline or amorph structure, but that's it. If the material doesn't have it in it, I ain't gonna be able to change that." Alice explains. Her classes are only one semester in, and pretty much basic stuff for college. An attempt to catch up to all those that had joined in a winter semester and had a chance to do basic classes then. No files on what highschool classes she took or the time she did spent working though - because she hadn't been at Xavier's then.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head. "No, not quite what I meant, Alice. I mean, would you be able to combine materials? You know, like someone spinning yarn, or weaving fabric, and combining two different fibers?" She smiles some. "Not saying pull things out of thin air. Just combine existing materials."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms frowning a bit as he does not find what he was looking for "Odd.

Red has posed:
"Composites? I actually mentioned something like that with Dr. McCoy earlier. Yea, using for example an ABS skeleton in an EVA-foam armor is something I did in the past. He mentined having to look into that possibly." Alice notes, looking over to Sam. "What's odd?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Well I was hoping we had gotten your high school records, i wanted to see how you did in your sciences, as the more you know in some fields there may help you with your abilities "You say you can not change things, but have you tried?

Red has posed:
Alice says, "What you mean by things? And of course I have tried. You know... sewing yarn and rope are made with a breaking point in mind. No matter how much I reshaped it or willed it, unless I altered the fiber's thickness or use more, I can't push that limit. ABS stays Acetyl Buthyl Styrene, PLA stays Polylactic Acid and so on.""

Nightingale has posed:
"But if you combine the two, new breaking points could be found. I'd stick to Mr. McCoy like Velcro, if I were you." Shannon snickers softly, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "Which might or might not be a good thing for the velcro, with all the blue fur."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Well I was wondering how why your powers just work with plastics and thinking if you were able to see it in the right way might be able to change the way they bond into other forms of plastics. You know maybe taking a rope, and changing the alignment of it's atoms from nylon to a stronger form, or even to a solid piece, like a strand of fishing line the size of rope.

Red has posed:
"You know that cotton is nothing but cellulose. Paper's cellulose. Rayon is cellulose. And what's Cellulose? Poly-sacharose. A very long string of suggar. A Polymer." Alice remarks, waving with a finger a little as she eyes Sam's T-Shirt, ever so genty bringing it in disarray on a momecular level. Which means pretty much turning the cotton fibers woven into a nice ordered web into the disorganized state much more akin to paper. Which does make the material more stiff. "I'm just altering the micro- and macrostructure. Altering the chemical makeup is entirely different. That's what one would do in a lab. Just using a thicker or more strands gets you a higher breakload, but it also reduces the flexibility."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks down at his shirt and nods his head a bit to this and says "And you can change it back to how it was orignally with no issues? Might have to see what you can do with some unstable molucule cloth

Red has posed:
"Sure. can sort that back again. That's what crystalline and amorph mean after all. Sorted and Chaos, so to say." Alice comments as she starts to reverse the change, returning it to the normal clothlike pattern.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Can see some life improvement ways of using your powers, will need to think upon the best combat uses for it. I mean you maybe trap someone in their clothes or make them rip out of them but other uses as well

Red has posed:
"How about stuffing them with their own undies?" Alice suggests with a mischivious grin.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie 's brow raises a bit at this "Stuffing them with them?

Red has posed:
"You heard me. Stuffing their backdoors with their undies. As in an enema of their own underwear."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "So, you can control them like a liquid at a distance?""

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "So, you can control them like a liquid at a distance?" He hmms and says "I will have to do a closer look at your power reviews and study them a bit "I did not thought your control suffered with range."

Red has posed:
"Not exactly, but let's just say some ganger had to have his underwear removed from his intestines where they had become a solid chunk."
