Old friends getting a few drinks
Date of Scene: 02 July 2020
Location: Harry's Hideaway (Bar), Salem Centre
Synopsis: Scott, Jean and Hank meet at Harry's for lunch to get together. Hank has a girlfriend?! Jean and Scott will ensure she's on the up and up.
Cast of Characters: Cyclops, Beast, Phoenix

Cyclops has posed:
It's a warm afternoon and Scott had invited his two longest, and closest friends out to lunch at Harry's. Waiting outside the front doors, he is dressed in a pair of relaxed khaki pants and a solid gray v-neck t-shirt. He takes in a deep breath of fresh air around him, sighing to himself as he runs his hands back through his hair. He could use a bit of a trim, and maybe that is next on the list after lunch. He sent out a text a minute ago that he was here.

Sporting a pair of ruby quartz ray-bans, he looks rather relaxed and even with a smile upon his face. He's in a good mood being that he's not on the clock at Xavier's, or leading a field mission.

Beast has posed:
When Hank shows up he greets his friend with a wave, "Good afternoon, my friend. Thank you for inviting me out." He's dressed casually in sandals, shorts and a lightweight, purple, button up short sleeved shirt. As he approaches Scott the hand that waved repositions itself for a possible shake, "We haven't gotten a drink together in quite some time. This will be a nice change of pace."

McCoy is quite at ease, himself. It's a good time to get out of the lab and the classroom.

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey is standing next to Scott, dressed for the summer weather in a long sundress with a simple fitted ivory top going down into a dusty rose-violet skirt portion. Her own hair is loose as it often is, though her eyes are on Scott's as he rearranges his. "You are getting kinda shaggy." She says in a tone that's more agreeing than just pointing it out, likely picking up on his train of thought.

As Hank arrives on scene to meet them, the woman's eyes brighten and the joy spreads out in a smile across her face. "It has been way, way too long. You'd think we'd all have more time to hang out considering we're all still under the same roof, but... no rest for the wicked, I suppose." Once shakes are done, she'd be there with a hug. No formality here amongst old old friends.

Cyclops has posed:
Reaching out, Scott gives Hank a firm handshake, then leans in for a quick bro-hug and a pat on the back before he leans back. "I'm just glad to get out of the school for a bit and have some fresh air. There are days I miss when we were all just dumb teenagers you know? Instead of being responsible adults." He gives them a wane smile before he opens the door to head inside.

Making his way towards 'their' table, he lifts a hand to wave to the familiar waiter and bar tender before he takes a seat, but not before pulling out a chair for Jean first. "So, whatcha been up to, Hank? Excited about classes starting up again in a few weeks? Lots of new faces coming I believe."

Beast has posed:
Returning Jean's affectionate squeeze with one of his own, Beast says, "Yes. With all the great minds working at our school you'd imagine we could schedule meet ups like this more often. Perhaps we'll need to hold our faculty meetings at Harry's from now on."

As they head inside Hank gives a little salute to the servers before taking his seat at the table, "I'm always excited about the opportunity to educate people. The next semester will be even better than last, I believe. Fresh faced young people, new material to present, a few new texts to go over. It will be quite fun."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey says, "I can't believe summer is halfway over already. It feels like it just started." Jean says as she takes her customary seat. "But, at least they wouln't be going into the new year entirely rusty. Alexis has some plans for an urban survival class in the work, and Scott, Logan, and I were talking about a related outdoors one. Once that's all done, I wager the kids will be more than happy to sit in an air conditioned classroom for a few hours. At least for a week before they get bored and antsy again.""

Cyclops has posed:
"We could probably rent the backroom and have the meetings there. Less chance of a kid running in screaming about the kitchen being on fire. Then again, we'd end up not knowing the kitchen was on fire." Scott says as he plucks the menu up with an amused noise in his throat.

"Mmm. That is true. We need to get the kids to disconnect from their phones for a bit and have them enjoy some fresh air and wildlife. I think it'll be good for them." Once the waiter comes, he puts in for a large iced water and a burger with all the fixings complete with fries.

"That's good to hear, Hank. The students always rave about you. Pretty sure you're going to get teacher of the year again voted by the kids." He chuckles. "But that's only because you like to blow things up in your science classes. No one can compete with explosions."

Beast has posed:
"Those sound like wonderful ideas!" exclaims Hank when he hears about the survival classes. "If I can help in any way let me know. I'm certain that we could think of some way for me to be helpful."

Glancing at Scott a smile appears on Beast's face, "That's a strong possibility."

When it's his turn to order the furry blue guy requests an iced tea and two burgers for himself.

Then he nods at his glasses wearing friend, "That's why I try to blow something up at least once a week." There's a pause, "In the classroom, of course. Not socially."

Phoenix has posed:
"Well I don't know that they'll be *enjoying* the wildlife, if I can guess where they'll end up." Jean says with a wincing expression that manages to be amused and full of dread in the same twitch. "But definitely no cell phone reception."

Her order is an unsweetened ice tea with extra lemon along with a buffalo chicken sandwich. Someone's feeling spicier today.

"The kids do like explosions. This is why we have a top grade insurance policy, because sometimes their explosions don't end up confined to the classroom. ...and to think, there was a day not too long ago we were the ones causing the premiums to go up."

Cyclops has posed:
"Oh, some of them will definitely not enjoy wildlife." Scott laughs softly. "I almost feel bad for at least one of them that I can think of."

"As long as the explosions don't put us on the news, I say enjoy yourself." He flashes a grin to Hank. "My autoshop class is only mildly attractive to some of the student body. I think they just like to get out of a potential study hall hour in which they're supposed to be doing homework."

Beast has posed:
"I have been prone to causing explosions in the past," Hank jokes with a big grin on his face. "Which was difficult to explain when I was getting my doctorate in biology. Biology rarely explodes unless you're doing it correctly, I've found."

Beast looks surprised by Scott's statement, "I would imagine that class would be quite popular. The biggest complaints I've received about my classes is that they don't seem practical to the students, at least at first glance. Autoshop is nothing if not practical. Why, I can't imagine not knowing how to work on our vehicles."

Phoenix has posed:
"Different generation, I guess." Jean can't help but crack a helpless sort of grin. "Same as us, and same as their kids will say about them - just hopefully not too soon. I am not equipped to handle that. I'll resign and move. Just warning you both now."

Shaking off that dread of just jinxing the entire situation, she continues with, "But, I agree some sort of trade knowledge is important. Much as we keep trying to impress on them, not everyone can run off and be heroes. Someone still has to keep the lights on, the water running, food growing. But there's not much glory there."

Cyclops has posed:
Shrugging his shoulders, Scott laughs. "I think most of them don't think they'll ever own a car, or if they do, they'll just pay to have someone do it I guess. I don't know. I enjoy it, but maybe it's just one of the more dirtier classes. I happen to like being covered in grease and oil."

Beast has posed:
"I don't blame them for having different interests than we did," Hank chuckles softly, adjusting his seat in the chair to grow more comfortable. "We do tend to prepare our pupils for university educations more than for the trades. I wonder if that gives them a fair shake sometimes."

Scott's laughter is contagious. Hank joins in, "That might be true, but there's something to be said for doing ones own dirty work. I'm sure that if I had a car instead of a plane I'd spend quite a lot of time under the hood. I can tell you now that there's little doubt in my mind it would remain stock for very long."

Phoenix has posed:
"You could make an argument that the only stock things in that house are the bannister and that one bathroom buried up on the second floor that no one uses unless there are no other options." It's on Jean's list of things to fix, but inevitably keeps getting pushed down further on that list.

"College isn't a bad thing to be ready for and most of the students seem to do well after. I keep meaning to do some online classes myself and finish up what I have going on, just time and that, uh, unintended sabbatical. I suppose I really should have some legitimate documentation backing up the role I'm supposed to be playing."

Cyclops has posed:
"I think it wouldn't hurt for some of us to get our higher education completed, yes. Myself included." Scott says with a bob of his head. "I could get my masters in organizational leadership I suppose from one of the local universities online."

"If you want to pick up a car sometime though, Hank, let me know and we can go shopping together. I'm good at dealing with salesman and I got a guy that I work with." He's famous for his muscle car collection after all. "What type of car you think you'd like?"

Beast has posed:
"That's probably true, Jean," says the blue dude.

"I'm all for continuing education, I just want to make sure that the kids know all of their options. I'd hate for them to think that it's college or bust." Then he looks between his friends, "You know you've got a prize winning scientist with multiple PhDs on staff, right? One who might be able to help you complete your degrees."

At the suggestion of picking up a car Hank nods his head, "I've actually given it a little thought recently. I think that a Jeep might suit me, but I'd want to actually do some research first. I imagine installing a nuclear reactor in one might cause some problems, however."

Phoenix has posed:
"Hank, I love you, but you already do more than most of us combined. I can't ask you to spend what free time you do take for yourself showing me flash cards for advanced psyche." Jean says to him with a sassed up shrug and a smirk. "And I'd probably just cheat anyway. But! Once I finally decide to stop conveniently forgetting about re-enrolling, I'll let you know what's on my schedule."

As the talk turns to boys and cars, she leans back in her chair to sip on her tea. "Well, a Jeep can at least get above 88 miles an hour. It can be a tiny reactor, I'm sure they have pocket sized ones these days. Just maybe change the oil in it more than I do mine." She mutters quietly into her glass.

Cyclops has posed:
"A Jeep, huh? I can see that. Top down, wind flying through your fur." Scott chuckles as he pulls his plate over once the burger arrives. He lifts it up to take a bite, chewing a few times thoughtfully.

"And you don't want me for a student, Hank. I'm so anal I'd drive you crazy with the way that I study. It's better I just lock myself in a room to myself so I can cram and memorize every possible thing."

"So, what else is new with you?"

Beast has posed:
"You and your soft sciences," Hank looks at Jean and shakes his head, acting as though he's being judgmental about her choices.

"I'd love to build another reactor some time. It's quite exciting. So much to account for, so much planning! Just obtaining the nuclear material is an effort in itself!" Ahhhh, science. What a nerd.

"Yes, and with doors off I can fit in the driver's seat quite comfortably," the big guy laughs as he flexes his fur covered muscles a little bit.

Then he pauses for a moment, "Well, I met someone. I'm involved in a romantic relationship."

Phoenix has posed:
Her sandwich is promptly forgotten and the glass is put down. The look on Jean's face right then is practically manic, that barely contained and slowly building vibration of energy that is probably only restrained by sheer virtue of their surroundings. She doesn't squeak or squeal, but she probably wants to.

"Wait. How did I miss this? You really are? Really? Okay." Her elbows go on the table and she's leaning over with those wide green eyes fixed on Hank and her chin propped up in her hand. "I'm going to need to know everything."

Cyclops has posed:
The brows of Scott lifts up over the top of his red glasses. "Really?" He says, giving a glance to Jean, before looking back to Hank. He puts his burger down as well and steeples his hands together.

"Go on."

Beast has posed:
At Jean's reaction Hank starts to chuckle, though there's perhaps an anxious tinge to it. He quickly hides it by taking a bite of one of his burgers and washing it down with some iced tea. "Her name is Sandy. She's an emergency room nurse. Quite attractive, intelligent and charming. She's read at least one of my works prior to our meeting, as well. If that didn't bore her I doubt very much that I will."

After taking a break he does as Scott says. "We met at an ice cream parlor. In her spare time she is a confectionary artist, she enjoys reading and gardening. She has a yellow car."

Phoenix has posed:
"That's the most wholesome story I've heard in weeks and it makes me stupidly happy that its your's." Jean does look truly joyful at hearing that. "You deserve to be happy, Hank, and I hope everything goes well for the two of you. You know I'm always here if you need girl advice or anything. I promise I wouln't grill you too much."

She teases her old friend with a wink as she leans back in her chair, and true to her promise she doesn't go harassing him for more details. For now. There's a chicken sandwich in front of her.

Cyclops has posed:
Taking out his phone, Scott starts to type in and talk outloud. "Sandy. Nurse. Likes ice cream. Yellow Car. Okay, so we're gonna need a social security number as well so we can run a proper background check." Scott says as he presses his lips together seriously, though the ends of it twitch slightly upwards.

"I'm really happy for you, Hank. We will all have to go out on a double date at some point so that we can meet her."

<< I'm half serious about the background check. I'll be really upset if she hurts him. >>

Beast has posed:
"I'd love to invite you out to meet her if things keep going as well as they are," Hank tells his friends with a cheerful smile.

Of course those burgers aren't going to eat themselves. The fanged mutant tears into them, eating almost daintily despite the fearsome maw.

At the other man's remark Beast smiles and says, "I'll ask her for that on our next date. That's a good topic of conversation."

Phoenix has posed:
<< Please, love, I'm three steps ahead of you. No one will break his heart on my watch. >> People wonder how two utterly opposite people like Scott Summers and Jean Grey work. A ferocious sense of loyalty may be part of that.

"Of course! Don't worry, we're not going to barge in on date two or three. Four, maybe." Jean teases after a mouthful of spicy chicken. Maybe she's joking. "Seriously, though, congratulations. She's a lucky woman."

Cyclops has posed:
<< Good. I'll talk to Logan also. He's good at sniffing out bullshit. >>

Scott takes another big bite of his burger, then swallows it after a couple of chews. Licking his lips, he nods his head. "Definitely by date four, if you haven't already got there yet. But yes, she is a /very/ lucky woman. You are the total package, Hank. She better know how good she has it."
