Looking for Trouble
Date of Scene: 15 July 2020
Location: Manhattan Subway Station
Synopsis: Subways are not that bad Dunc- Ok maybe they are.
Cast of Characters: Phantasm (Drago), Duncan MacLeod

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
By most people's opinions, Tuesdays are considerably better than Mondays. Those who may not agree with that thought process are likely in non-traditional jobs. For Nick, Tuesdays tend to be slow nights when it comes to gigs and so his spare time on such days are typically reserved for practice. Or in this case, something else.

It's late. Most people in their right minds are on their way home and yet here comes Nick down the steps to join the slightly thining crowd. Hair tucked under a ballcap, wearing jeans and a tee, he's seemingly dressed normally. The bookbag he carries isn't packed that heavy while it's obviously carrying a few things.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
This will be the last time he rents a car from that company. The subway. At least this won't be dull. Right? He'd rather not deal with dumb as he makes his way back towards where he's staying.

He hasn't heard some of the rumors about the subway yet. That's the joy of being the new guy in the city. Well...there isn't really any joy in being a new guy in the city. Warily he walks into the main area.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
While the crowds are thinning, Duncan does have some benefit in that there are people down below.

Reaching near the bottom of the steps, Nick's movements slow as he gives a glance along the main platform. Spotting a familiar face, a brow lifts. Well, he knows that Duncan is more than capable in a fight but...

He finishes his descent, one hand on the bookbag strap while the other slides into his pocket. Strolling behind the living antique. Granted, not within arms length. "Small city. Isn't it?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Looking around the area once more, Duncan pauses and turns his head to the side a little at the sound of Nick's voice. He turns towards him finally and replies,"For all the size of it, yes."

A familiar face is good stuck in this place after all,"Remind me never to use the rental company I showed you again." he comments looking around the subway,"I contemplated just walking."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Nothing wrong with walking." Nick replies with a grin, "Most of my travel is either me on foot or with someone else doing the steering." He turns his head glanicing to the handful of persons waiting for the train. A glance lingering slightly on one who is wearing a tad bit too much black, even for a New Yorker. He glances back to Duncan, "Where you heading?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Walking is good, but the hotel is over twelve miles from here. I'd like to see some sleep before the sun came up." Duncan comments and looks at the one that is indeed wearing too much black. Marking him as potentially hostile, he looks back to you,"Where are you going?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick grimaces at the distance quoted. "Egh. Tweleve miles. Ok yeah that's a bit of a ways."

He opts not to look to the man in black once more, instead glancing the other direction to other persons. "Actually I'm going nowhere in particular." Nick admits, giving a shrug, "Temperature's pretty alright, didn't have anything schedule, have a bit of extra energy on hand so, seemed like a good time to go wander around."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Wandering the streets and subways of New York for being bored?" he questions incredulously. He shakes his head and waits for the subway to arrive as he adds,"Maybe we can head to the gym and work out or something." He looks around again and shrugs,"Of course, this could be more entertaining in its own way." Says the guy that can't die.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick gives a bit of a smirk, "I've lived in this city for eighteen years and just walking around at weird hours still can bring all sorts of entertainment." He pauses, considering the statement. Is he encouraging Duncan to hang out in the subways? Then again, he's already found out what Buffy's like. "Although I wouldn't recommend it for those just visiting."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Remind me sometime to tell you how many times I've been to New York." Duncan muses thoughtfully and laughs,"The weirdness that grows in this city is beyond me every year more than the one before."

He eyes the area again because that's what he does. He checks his watch and wonders out loud,"So how late do the subways usually run?"

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, seems you got twelve miles to tell me how many times." Nick quips, "Technically the subway is open all day but a lot of the lines aren't served after midnight."

He glances towards a tunnel as a rumbling indicates that they won't be waiting for much longer, his eyes flick over to look to the man in black before looking back to the tunnel opening. "Helps to know the nighttime routes before you decide to just go around with no set plan. The wait times get longer between trains."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Well. Many times or not. I don't know the train routes. I'm just here because I don't have much of an option." he admits,"I tried to catch three cabs for all the good that did." He shrugs and glances towards the tunnel and the sound of the oncoming subway.

"I only have one more place to be and then I will be going back to Vancouver for a while." he muses thoughtfully,"If you get back up that way you know where to find me. Standing invitation."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"I hear they have an app for the train schedule." Nick replies, "Won't work on my phone, obviously, but if you got a smart phone, you could try that."

He pauses, watching as the train slows to a stop, doors kurrshing open to allow for a small cluster of people to get off before they can get on. "And I thank you again for the invitation. If they decide Call of the Wild is so popular and I end up getting pulled for the role of Zombie John Thornton in the ill-advised sequel, I'll be sure to swing on by. Or next time I'm there for a music gig. Probably more likely."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Patiently waiting for people to get off the train, Duncan follows you on. There is a moment of looking back to see who may follow and then he stands next to one of the posts in the center of the aisle, waiting for the car to go again.

"I have tried the smart phone a time or two. They always end up the broken phones in my life strange as that might sound." There is a smirk and he adds,"Well I'll be pulling for the movie role, but will watch for your next music gig around the city."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Including Duncan and Nick, five people board the car they end up in. One of which being the man in black who settles himself into a corner. The other two appear to be a couple. A blonde woman with long curly hair, curls so tight that no one in their right mind would willingly set out to achieve them and the other, an older man. Black hair, goatee, and a bit a bit of a beer gut. They're an odd pairing but based on the intimate proximity of the two, definitely a pair of something.

"Or, I guess I could just try for a vacation." The musician considers, "The look on Wade's face when I bring up the topic would be worth it." Nick slides his bookbag off his shoulder, hand wrapping around the strap as he turns and sits across from Duncan's standing position.

The doors slide shut, giving them silence for a few seconds before the train jerks forward.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:

Something about the others in the train that makes him uneasy. Hundreds of years old teaches you to trust your instincts. He situates himself where he can watch the others, either directly or by reflection in the windows of the car.

"A man needs a vacation now and then." Duncan admits with a nod,"Too much work will wear you out. Trust me." There is a dubious look at the glass to observe the pairing. That's going to leave a memory even for him.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Yeah. So Wade keeps telling me." Nick replies, bringing up a free hand to mimic his roommate talking "Got a life ahead of you, no point doing it all in the begining. Take a break. Yada yada. By the way I booked you for five gigs next week..." The hand flops down as the musician starts to fiddle with his bag. "All sorts of entertainment." He repeats.

The couple- well. It's probably not a good idea to go into detail on what's happening on that side of the car. But the best way to describe it is... a trainwreck inside of a train. It's so hard to look away. So much so that even the man in black is looking at them funny.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:

"Once this trip is over and I get back to the shop to catalog the things I've picked up and sold I am thinking seriously about taking a long vacation myself. Somewhere in the mountains." Duncan begins. Yes it is hard to miss the yuck, but once the initial show wears off they become just a passive thing to be mindful of.

He laughs at something as he adds,"Yes. That was my plan. A vacation here while I was getting the work done. Instead I've encountered random street violence, random club violence, and work. Vacation where there are no people seems very much in order."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
And I was there for one of those randoms." Nick reples, giving a chuckle. "Hmm. Guess I could cound the shoot up in Canada as a vacation then. Film site was in the middle of nowhere. But yes. I can see what you mean. It's pretty hard to get away from stuff like that here."

As the train starts on its express route to the next stop, the lights start to flicker as they go deeper into the tunnel. Which, probably doesn't help with the show the couple's putting on. The strobe light effect kicking on once more. Nick's not looking directly to the couple, seemingly more interested in his bag.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Yes you were." Duncan agrees with a laugh,"Helluva way to make a first impression." he adds. Going into the tunnel and then the flicker of lights. Yes, this seems like a good idea. Really. A shake of his head and he makes sure to keep the pole to his back for the moment.

"I forgot how much I really don't like these things." he admits. Not really a phobia look about him so much as a better places to be look,"Again. New rental car company next time."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Well, at least it wasn't boring." Nick replies, seemingly checking in his bag for something, "Better than theirs at least."

Nick glances up to Duncan, "What don't you like about the subway?"

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Hate to be bored." he agrees and watches as the tunnel flickers around them. He shakes his head and admits,"I was born in Scotland. I prefer open areas without close anything." There is a shrug,"Vancouver is a city, but small compared to this. This machine is just a reminder of how cramped this city can be. Aside from a few friendships there isn't much I will be taking from this trip other than a desire to go home."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick is quiet, listening to the explanation, giving a slow nod at the end. "Hmm. Ok. I can get that. It's not like home at all for you."

He pauses, eyes closing for a moment as the lights flick on for longer than a few seconds. "I enjoyed my time in the Yukon. I enjoy the quiet time I can get in my off time. But, I'm not sure I'd do ok for the long term in a more spread out location. It just seems- lonely to me."

"Oh for crying out loud GET A ROOM YOU TWO!" It appears that dark clothes has reached his limits.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"I've lived off the land a few times. This is...less than ideal." Duncan agrees,"The Yukon is nice, but I'd suggest something more temperate to try surviving in the wild." he muses.
He can't help looking as the man in black snaps off at the make out couple. He seems...well not amused, but somemhat relieved when someone else voices his thoughts.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick glances over to the dark clothed man, giving a half smile to the reaction before he glances to the view of them passing through a station on the express tracks, nowhere next to the platform as the barrel through the next tunnel. The lights start flickering.

The couple seems a little less amused "DON'T YOU TELL US WHAT TO DO!" The woman snaps, looking to her beau, "Dearest, isn't he being rude?"

Nick turns his head quickly, looking over to the couple. "Duncan, sit down."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He raises his brow, but Duncan does what he's told to do. He gives Nick a quizzical look in the darkness, but there's no way to know exactly what the other one is thinking.

So he sits. A frown creases his brow, not so much at the situation as to how the couple responds. The words and the emphasis on how they are being place,"What...." is all he really gets out.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Ah yes the telltale sign of a person putting the pressure on the significant other to thump their chest in the efforts to regain a percieved slight to one's honor. And this person is definitely feeling the urge to appease his Children of the Corn Shirley Temple Barbie. The pot bellied pony tailed man narrows his eyes looking to the man in black as he starts to run towards the man in black taking the route that would have barrelled over Duncan if he was still standing. "Yes it is!"

That was the expected part. What wasn't as expected was the sheer speed and how much more grotesque his face turned as he lunged at black clothes. Or that COTCSTB was close behind with the same game face on

Nick's eyes widen at the sudden change, pulling a pair of sticks out of his bag, tossing a drumstick over to Duncan. "SHI-" He spins, running after the pair another stick in hand and scar on his right forearm relocated to his left.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
He already hated the subway. This will put an end to riding it at all. The drum stick tossed to him gets a raise of a brow, but he catches it. Better than nothing after all.

Well. It's not like he's going to let Nick get himself killed. He lunges after him, backing him up to catch one if it tries to get past. No more subways. Nope. What he wouldn't give for his sword about now.

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Vegas been the one to determine the odds between the man in black and pot bellied Ken, it would have been in favor of the man in black. But then Vegas would be swearing as their favored party is freaking out at the presence of the rest of the car running his way, two of which were horrifying to look at even before their faces changed. "AA-"

Nick ends up running past Barbie to concentrate the full of his strength to the part of him that comes into contact with Ken, shoving him to the floor. The task made easier as Ken errupts into a pile of ash.

Barbie, who, is now tasked with either regaining her honor against get a room guy and the one who took her Ken doll away, pauses. "Babe?"

"OH MY FUCKING GOD YOU'RE INSANE!" The man in black cries out, bursting to his feet to run down the car, past Duncan and towards the door that leads to the next car.

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
Well, the one escaping the train is the smartest one it seems. He breaks the end of the stick off. Usually not one to fight just anyone, the ifrst one going to dust gives him a real good idea what is going on.

An arm slips under the unaware vampire and one second she is on her feet, the next she is staring at the ceiling of the car. A second later, Duncan is brushing the dust off his coat. He stands up again and looks to Nick and mutters,"I've been wondering if you go anywhere without drawing new fans."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
"Somehow I doubt he was talking to me." Nick replies, his scar staying in place on the wrong arm as he pushes himself up, picking up the still intact drumstick he used for Ken. He lifts a hand up, tucking his hat down a bit further.

He nods to the broken drumstick. "Glad you picked up on the hint."

Shaking his head, he walks over near the door as the lights starts flickering again before the train starts to slow down. "I think I've got my fill for the night."

Duncan MacLeod has posed:
"Probably not." Duncan agrees and notes something, but doesn't comment right now. Dust on the floor and he mutters a bad movie line,"There are worse things out there than vampires." A shake of his head he offers the broken stick back to Nick.

He sighs,"Next time. I'll walk." he mutters. That comment about going back into the woods again is probably more likely than it was before getting on the subway,"If I'm not at the shop when you come to town, ask for Richie and tell him dust storm. He'll understand."

Phantasm (Drago) has posed:
Nick takes the drumstick and slides it into his bookbag along with the other one before straightening the backpack on the shoulder. At some point the scar ends up back on the right forearm. "I'll walk with you." He offers as the train comes to a stop.

As the pair gets off, the man in black remains in his train car. Seemingly much calmer now as he watches the pair head out. As the train pulls away with him on it, he gives a smile.
