Checking In On Friends
Date of Scene: 23 July 2020
Location: Frontyard - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Sue, who totally isn't Supergirl, comes to check in on Jeremy. Chats and burritos followed!
Cast of Characters: Supergirl, SpyderByte, Phoenix, Nightingale

Supergirl has posed:
It had been a matter of a phone call to the school. Supergirl was known to be an associate of Jeremy's. She would call him rather often, although that wasn't usually through the normal lines of communication at the school. Instead, it was thanks to his own powers and her Spyder icon he'd added to her phone for just such a thing.

Yet, she wanted to see him. But she knew the school was special and protected, so she followed proper routes. She was a little surprised to find her visit needed to be a bit more normal. Thus, she had to drive there. Like a person. She didn't even own a car! Being able to fly, it seemed redundant to own one!

Yet here she was, in a rental, driving through the gates after checking in. She still checked in as Supergirl because she didn't want to be seen here as Kara Danvrs, with her brown hair and glasses. Nothing someone could use to link the two worlds she lived in. Thus, Supergirl was dressed in regular clothes as she pulled up at the front of the school in a SmartCar. It had been cheap and cheap was good.

Stepping out, she was dressed in a pair of jeans and a black t-shirt with a Captain America shield on the front of it.

SpyderByte has posed:
Sitting on the steps outside is Jeremy, who was most likely tracking her route via her phone to ensure that she arrives safely. He may have also gave her one or two extra green lights as well so that she gets here faster. He is dressed in a pair of loose black jeans with a few chains hanging off them, a black power button shirt and his oversized black hoodie. His hair is a mop of black and brown sprawled out across his face and over his thin glasses. He looks swallowed up in his clothing and most likely uncomfortable from the heat.

As he taps away on a laptop across his knees, he is looking haggard from the New York heat, but that wouldn't stop him from waiting for his best friend to visit him. He hasn't had a visit from his own family since his arrival, citing they are too busy. The real reason? They just don't care.

Humming to himself, he nervously drums his fingers along the keys, bouncing a bit to some music he has set up on his computer to try and keep his energy up. At least this time he brought some water with him. When he spies the car coming through, he closes the lid to his laptop and pops up to his feet. "Hey!" He calls out as he waves a hand, brightening up immediately.

Phoenix has posed:
As she would do for any parent (or super-guardian), Jean permitted the visit happily. At least in this case, she didn't have to tell all of the kids to be on their best behavior and hide their abilities. Though there on the lawn where others could possibly see, the secret had to be kept. Formalities and all.

The headmistress is standing patiently on the front stoop next to the ornate wooden doors, wearing black suit pants and a vest with a teal shirt underneath. Summer business wear. She gives a faint smile as he bounces up upon seeing the car arrive and the young woman step out.

"Good afternoon, and welcome to the school. Hopefully the drive out wasn't too bad. At least it isn't snowing."

Supergirl has posed:
Being who she is and pretty much obtuse at times, Supergirl immediately hugs Jeremy. Whether he likes it or hates it. She's done it before and it isn't something she thinks about. It's how she greets those she is closest to and he is a good friend. "Jeremy! You are looking....hot. Okay, really hot. You need to get some shorts and t-shirts!" She is grinning from ear to ear as she says it. Stepping back, she looks him over critically. "I prefer primary colors but some pastels might even be in order."

She glances over to Jean, offering a hand in greeting. "The drive was an adventure. I have a license but I don't normally have to use it. But I didn't hit anyone so bonus points! Thank you for letting me visit. I wanted to be sure everything was going well. People were being nice. Do I need to break anyone? Or just scare them some? I'm good at that, suprisingly."

SpyderByte has posed:
Returning the hug, Jeremy gives her a sheepish grin. He holds his phone up for the British voice of Siri to come through the speakers.

<< No one wants to see me in shorts and t-shirts. I am so pasty. I like my black clothes. Even if it's not great for summer. I have missed you so much. How are you doing? >>

At the idea of her breaking and scaring anyone, he gives a shake of his head, running a hand back through his sweaty hair. << No. Everyone is nice. I am starting to make some friends. >>

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey takes the offered hand, the grip professional with the force of muscle memory but her expressions relaxed and friendly. "Of course, you're welcome here. Well, I can leave you two to talk. You don't need me hovering around like a worried hen. Jeremy, you're welcome to show her around, just not the lower level without staff. Otherwise, the grounds are yours. I'll be in my office if you need me for anything."

She reaches into her vest pocket to withdraw a clip on visitor's badge which she holds out to Supergirl. "Here, so everyone knows you've got clearance to be here."

Supergirl has posed:
Taking the badge, Supergirl nods and pinches the upper corner of her shirt on the left side, making a tiny bunch of material so that she can clip the badge there. "All official. Thank you. And you don't have to run off, if you don't want. I know you're probably busy but I'd like to hear from someone not-Jeremy how he's doing in classes and stuff."

Like she's the big grown up here. Playing mother hen herself is more like it.

She grins over at Jeremy. "Everyone is nice? That's a little freaky. I didn't think everyone was nice anywhere. But making friends is awesome. I'd love to meet some of them. I promise I won't even give them the third degree." Then she realizes that's probably a lie. "Much."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I mean, everyone is nice that actually talks to me. I could do a better job of going out of my way. I talk to the toaster a lot. The fridge is also very nice. So is the wifi enabled vacuum cleaner, though he does not appreciate being used in the bathroom. >>

Jeremy is either a comedian or dead serious. It's hard to tell from the mechnical voice of Siri. His shoulders lift upwards in a shrug.

<< If you two want to talk about me, I can go, though most likely I will be listening in on your devices because of my anxiety. >>

Phoenix has posed:
"I'm not as busy now as I will be in another month, but it's slowly ramping up. We just put some finishing touches on renovating some of the student and staff rooms. Easier to do it when less people are around, but now we'll be ready for a new crop of students."

She does turn to look to Jeremy with a single red eyebrow raising, the look gently chiding but affectionate. "Like looking through classified student files? You can be there too. Feedback is good and I appreciate the upfront honesty. It's easier to learn from things heard firsthand than through hearsay."

She's just not going to address that he's chatting with appliances? She doesn't seem bothered by it. Not even a blink. Given the nature of the school, she's probably encountered stranger things. "We can head inside and chat in my office where it's cooler or we can walk and talk out here, whichever you two prefer."

Supergirl has posed:
"Inside is good. Heat doesn't really bother me but I don't want Jeremy to melt. He already needs to eat more and build up some bulk. Don't need him sweating off what little there is of him." Supergirl motions to the door, figuring the pair of them will lead the way to the cooler interior.

She does glance over at Jeremy though, smile fading just a little bit. "You better not mean the toaster and fridge and vacuum are the new friends you have made. I mean they might be friendly, I'm not judging. But you need human friends." Realizing what she said, she giggles a little. "Human. Humanoid. Whatever."

She's Supergirl by looks in that she has the blonde hair and blue eyes but she's wearing jeans and a black t-shirt with a Captain America shield on the front. Someone who was a fan might recognize who she is but without the costume, she can easily just be mistaken for the girl-next-door type. "Course, now I have to wonder who needs a wifi enabled vacuum cleaner?"

SpyderByte has posed:
There is a sheepish look upon Jeremy's face as Jean chides him for his computer habits.

<< You made me scrub the entire Internet once to remove evidence of you know who doing you know what. >>

See! He's not the ONLY unethical one here! They're on the same team here. Equally bad! He can't help a small girlish giggle to slip through his lips as he pockets his phone.

"I-I-Mmm e-eeee-atin'. Th-th-th-ey got ch-cheese sssticks." See, the perfect diet for a computer nerd. The idea of having human friends makes him shrug his shoulders with a small grin on his face.

Nightingale has posed:
It seems that the merry band on the lawn weren't the only ones heading inside. Coming around from the backyard was a familiar winged figure that looked as if she'd just been in the pool. Shannon's wearing a black bandeau-style bikini that is more on the modest side of coverage, a hot pink batik leaf print sarong slung around her hips, and a pair of daisy-toe flip-flops. Her hair is plastered to her forehead and down her back, droplets of water clinging to her, and the faint aroma of chlorine from the pool and the scent of coconut from her sunblock lingering in her vicinity. She stops for a moment, glancing down the front driveway towards the gate, a nostalgic smile curling her lips upward.

She only lingers on memory lane for a few moments, before turning to Jeremy, Miss Grey, and Supergirl. Her smile brightens as she trots on over to join the trio. "Hi!" she calls out.

Phoenix has posed:
"To help protect the school, not spy on students." Jean points out to Jeremy.

"I can assure you, he does actually talk to other students and staff, not just our appliances." Jean says towards Supergirl with a quiet chuckle. "And speaking of one of the prime candidates..."

She looks over her shoulder just before Shannon actually rounds the corner and the headmistress raises a hand to wave to her. "This is Shannon," Jean side sidelong to Supergirl. "One of our upper classmen and student team members." Perhaps pointedly, she does not introduce Supergirl and instead looks to her, deferring the information given to its owner.

Supergirl has posed:
"Su--Susan." Rao, save her. She was horribly at lying. "You can call me Sue. I'm a friend of Jeremy's. Came to check in on him, make sure he's all settled and everyone is being nice. That he's studying and not just hanging out with the toaster." Which has Supergirl pausing as she glances back over at Jeremy sharply. "What does it even talk about? How people like their toast? Do our toasters judge us?!" That seems very important to know suddenly.

She glances back to Shannon, giving a little wave of her hand in the air and a wiggle of fingers. "He's mentioned you before in our talks. Says you are a friend and nice. Thanks for that. He needs people friends." That sidelong look at Jeremy.

Then over to the other grown up present. Okay, the adultier adult at least. She nods to Jean. "Good. I had hoped this would work out."

SpyderByte has posed:
There's another giggle from Jeremy. << This is my sister, Susan. >> He says to Shannon as he holds up his phone so that it speaks through his speakers.

<< Our toaster is very jealous of the microwave and she just wants to complain. So, I listen to her. No one else will listen to her. She is a very intelligent toaster and is capable of warming food just as well as a microwave. >>

Nodding his head, he sways a bit on his feet in a childish manner as he offers up a smile to Shannon, trying not to stare too much at her current attire. He clears his throat and glances down towards his feet. Hot girl. Bikini.

<< Yes, she is very nice. Good friend. Not a toaster. >>

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon quirks one golden brow, giving Supergirl a wry half-smile. She coughs lightly; there is definitely a look of recognition upon her face, but she says nothing on the matter, instead opting to play along for now. Well, mostly. "Pleasure to see you.. Susan." She offers her hand by way of greeting, canting her head slightly. Her smile widens as she sees the shirt, giving 'Susan' a little up-nod. "Love the shirt. Looks good on you." There is definitely a look of recognition upon her face, but if Supergirl was here incognito, it was likely for good reason--reasons that would come out in their own good time.

Turning to Miss Grey and Jeremy, it doesn't seem to matter much that she's still damp from swimming. Oh, no. Both of them get a hug in turn, wings and all. Wings that seem oddly dry, despite having been in the water. "I'd listen to the toaster if I could, Jeremy, you know that. But, at least I try to make sure she feels useful and wanted, too." Her smile is wry, and she lets out a little sigh. "Know how that feels sometimes."

Encompassing all three with her look, she nods towards the mansion, smiling. "We could either head inside if you like, or I could run in and make up some lemonade and sandwiches to bring out here? Up to you."

Phoenix has posed:
"Let's head inside, we can go sit in the staff hall. It'll be quieter but at least everyone wouln't be crammed around my desk." Jean remarks post hug - which she returns - as she steps over to the door and opens it, holding it that way for everyone to head inside. "Shannon, you're welcome to grab refreshments and meet us in there if everyone wants snacks. It's the third door down on the right."

Supergirl has posed:
She can't help giggling at Jeremy's words. "No, definitely not a toaster. I can't believe a toaster gets jealous."

She glances over to Shannon and the expression on the younger woman's face. Supergirl makes a bit of a face as she realizes she's not really fooling anyone. "Didn't want to show up as my secret identity, okay?" she murmurs low to the trio with a little sigh. "I mean it's a secret! But haven't seen Jeremy in way too long and wanted to visit. So now I'm Sue. For the time being." She shrugs helplessly and turns to follow the others inside. "Got stuff for burritos by chance?" she asks as food is discussed. "I mean it won't be Dos Bros but any burrito is usually good."

As they enter, she glances around the foyer then to the rooms on either side. There is a low whistle of appreciation. "Okay, this is way beyond the school I went to. Where are the halls that smell funny and the lockers that need to be painted?"

SpyderByte has posed:
Following after them, Jeremy attaches his phone to a small arm strap that he brought along. One of those that is designed to holster a phone when you run. This just makes it easier for him to interact with stuff and still 'speak' to everyone without stuttering. He returned the hug to Shannon, giving a smile. << You smell like coconuts. >>

<< I can place an order to Dos Bros if you want it delivered, otherwise I can find stuff in the fridge. >>

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon chuckles softly, shrugging. "Figured you had your reasons, Sue. It's all good... not exactly my first rodeo." Laughing softly, she shakes her head. "Who would've thought this time last year life would change so much?" Listening to both Jeremy and Supergirl, she purses her lips for a moment, then smiles, her face lighting up with an idea as she addresses all three. "Tell you all what, I'll go throw some burrito fillings together and make a build-your-own-burrito tray. If you've got any favorites, let me know."

Smiling back at Jeremy, is that... a bit of a blush? "It's the sunblock. I'd turn red as a lobster without it."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey makes her way into the meeting hall and takes a seat at the main table. "It is a slight shame we converted the old ballroom, it would have been useful for dances or auditorium-style meetings since we don't have your traditional school theatre. Thankfully, we have no shortage of outdoor space to set up event tents when we need. Maybe next major renovation." Does this place get renovated that often?

"That's fine, Shannon. If we don't have what we need, let us know and I can get an order placed. I can just do a bulk order and have some on hand for the rest of the staff too since they tend to forget to eat as often as I do."

"So, Sue." She says to Supergirl after everyone is seated. "Do you have any particular questions for me?"

Supergirl has posed:
"Yeah, hate to make you run off and get food for us. We can order. I can pick it up and be back in a flash." Supergirl says. "Well, with permission of course. Promise not to cause a ruckus here if I do. Jeremy can put in the order since it's in Metropolis."

Up to them all what they want to do of course. She settles in a chair, glancing around. "This place is gorgeous. Yeah, this would've been nice for a prom or something." She looks over at Jean. "Not sure why you would want to renovate." Having no idea what happens here really that might need to often needing such things.

She does note that little blush from Shannon, glancing at Jeremy with an arched brow and a tiny grin. But she concentrates on the conversation at hand, namely the question from Jean. "Uhm. I dunno. I'm new to this. I can try to think of what my parents used to ask though when I was in school! Let's see...are there any concerns or things I can help with? You already said he's settling in."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< This place is very big. >> Jeremy agrees as he takes a seat, then flips his laptop open that he brought with him. His fingers drum along the keyboard as he pulls up the site, then starts working on his own order. << What kind of burritos do you guys want? >>

If Jeremy noticed any type of blushing, he doesn't react to it. He probably misses every social cue in the room as it is. When the conversation turns to him, he tilts his head a bit to the side, as if to try and listen better.

Nightingale has posed:
"Sue... cooking is something I enjoy." She laughs, and shakes her head, a wry smile brightening her whole expression. "Besides, it won't take but a few minutes. A couple minutes for a quick pico de gallo, some refried beans, some cheese, a quick little bit of seasoned beef, some sauteed bell peppers... it's not long at all, and a pleasure." Unless she's stopped, she ducks out to head for the kitchen, and put together the burrito tray, humming a lilting little tune on her way.
