Coins and Questions
Date of Scene: 27 July 2020
Location: Karrin Murphy's House - Sunnydale
Synopsis: Prue, Harry, and Karrin talk the coin one last time. It's logiced out that, probably, Prue wasn't a target. They still worry about the situation and make a few more plans.
Cast of Characters: Karrin Murphy, Prudence Halliwell, Harry Dresden

Karrin Murphy has posed:
The real talk conversation over beer and donuts the other day was necessary, but it also brought up about as many questions as it did answers. So, Karrin's invited both Harry and Prue over for dinner (she's not cooking, she's not risking giving them both food poisoning) and a chat about the things she learned. She's told Harry that she talked longer with the woman who received the coin and there's probably more to discuss. She told Prue pretty much the same. So, an array of chinese take out has been laid out on her kitchen counter, probably way too much for them tonight but it means she won't have to cook the rest of the week. She's still bandaged up her ribs but the bruises from the mess of Harry's car and the fight are definitely a bit more faded. She's in yoga pants and an oversized t-shirt, not trying to impress anyone tonight. This is a working evening.

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue's still in her business casual work clothes as she strolls in. The smell of takeout is apparent, and Prue cracks a smile. Karrin got takeout, alright then. Piper would freak if she knew but Prue's not telling her this. Mostly since Piper would demand Karrin sit down then proceed to cook them a meal herself. Prue? Not so much.

She looks over the food and Karrin and smiles more. "Good idea for food. My younger sister runs P3 and is a chef, so shhh, no telling her we're eating this" Piper says with a glint in her eye as she picks a spot to sit at with her hands in her lap. No sense in starting the food early till everyone else gets here mind.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Yeah... uh... I managed to cook one reasonable meal this month already and didn't poison either Harry or I so... I figured I wouldn't push my luck. Also, frankly? Didn't damn well feel like it after playing desk jockey all day." Karrin's displeasure with her current work situation is rather clear, but she doesn't continue ranting, at least. She leads Prue farther into the now-familiar house, setting out a few options of utensils for chopsticks or forks, and deep Chinese plastic spoons for the egg drop soup.

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
"I'm pretty sure I could ask my sister to drop by and help you out?" Prue offers with a knowing smile. "On the other hand I like the spread of food. You did good" Prue offers with a grin. "See you're good" she adds and shuffles in her seat. "So what's this about then? I guess you didn't need company tonight else I'd have brokewn out the movies and nachos"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murph picks up a container of heavy noodles with some beef on top and single use chopsticks, definitely not being fancy about this, and stabs them inside to be used for later. Still-worried blue eyes scan over Prue for a moment and she gives a half chuckle about her sister. "That's really sweet, though I can barely afford groceries some weeks, much less a personal chef. But... I manage." She then nods towards the casual kitchen table, a lace runner stretched along the middle of it. "Hopefully Harry will get his ass out of bed and show up. I... really wanted you two to talk. To figure out why someone put that coin infront of you. And...I think, if you're willing, you should tell him what you are."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
"It's not so much a personal chef and hey, here's a cookbook for beginners, and here's somebody you can ask for advice" Prue says, "Hey my sisters and I, we survived Garden State U so..."

So she can cook, yeah....sorta...but Prue's more intrigued in the coin. "Ah, should I tell him about Mr. McLeod?" she asks nervously. "I mean, he knows about it too, he's as much invovled as I am" Prue says calmly and digs into a container of chicken chow mein, solely fr the fact it's the first one she comes to and is using her fingers. "Don't mind me. I'm not getting up to get cutlery to enjoy this. I didn't bring chopsticks either but if you got those plastic wrap ones I'll take those" Prue offers and looks pleased at her haul of Chinese food. Now if Harry would get here, they could get down to business

Harry Dresden has posed:
Speak of the devil, or a wizard, and sometimes they appear. There is a familiar knock on the front door, the rapping of a staff on the steel that Karrin has heard many, many times before that announces the arrival of a certain wizard, proven by the voice that comes from behind the steel door. "Murph? You around?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
There is a small change in Murphy's body when that familiar knock comes, a relaxing to her shoulders and a momentary softening to her eyes. Oh. She's sweet on him, even if she tries not to let that slip into life. But, if Prue is particularly keen, it's fairly obvious. Murphy gets up and passes a pack of chopsticks to her. "No dishes, extra lazy tonight, go ahead." And then she moves for the door, calling behind her, "We probably should tell him about MacLeod too. Just come clean with it all. It's just safer that way." Harry may or may not have heard that through the door.

Then she's pulling the door open, giving him a gentle, if slightly tired smile, "Dresden. I ranged for food. Captured a whole chinese take out delivery man. Tonight, we feast." She teases him as she nods him inside and towards the spread in the kitchen. "...You already know Prue, I would assume..."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue takes the chopsticsk and smiles, head down, eating. She's not catching Murphy relaxing, but she does catch sight of Harry out the corner of her eye. hard not to really as Prue grins. "Hey Harry" she says with chopsticks holding delicious foo

Harry Dresden has posed:
The nod, an indication of intent to allow him through the threshold seems to be enough for the wizard and he returns the smile before stepping through the doorway. "Prue?" he asks as he walks into the small little house, setting his staff over by the door and making his way towards the small of food, "Oh! Prue..." he says as he sees the familiar face. "Right, the woman from the auction house. I didn't know you knew Murp?"

Harry's eyes dart from the witch to the food, surveying the selection with a grin as he moves to make himself a plate. A little of this, a lot of that, and a good helping of Chinese mustard to help clear his sinuses as he eats. "What's the feast for?" he mumbles through a mouthful of chow mien, "Not that I am complaining."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Murphy is still walking a bit slow, but she's not near so creaky as she was last week. She doesn't bounce back as fast as a wizard, but she's pretty tough on her own. She heads back for the table and her own carton of beef lo mein, sinking gingerly down into the chair. "Help yourself, Harry. Chopsticks are on the butcher block. And... well... I wanted to talk more about the matter of that coin. And..." Murphy then levels her eyes in Prue's direction, a bit more weight to them, "Whether it was planted in Prue's hands here, or maybe someone was trying to make certain it got through to you." She frowns, considering whether to just come out with it. "...I told her the backgrouhnd of it all. As much as I know. She... Deserved to know."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue gives Karrin a nod as if letting her know it's safe to spill the secrets. "So we meet again" she says to Harry with a wry smile, looking over to the wizard. "I have a friend who knows about these Dnerian coins by the way. I ran into him here the other night, and Buffy sat in on the talk"

Harry Dresden has posed:
Pausing with a chopstick full of chow mein dangling halfway out of his mouth the wizard looks from Karrin to Prue and back. Shrugging a shoulder as he slurps the noodles up into his mouth, Harry chews the bite and swallows before replying, "Well, I mean, sure. Not everyone is going to entertain the notion that these coins are like the genie bottle for fallen angels, but if she has an open mind..." he leaves the sentence dangling with a shrug as he goes for another bite of the noodles. "As for who it was targeting, I don't have any belief that it was targeting anyone specifically. The coins have always been more of a target of opportunity. They aren't terribly picky about who takes one up, usually. There are exceptions, like when Nicodemus tries to recruit, but otherwise I think they just try to get touched by any warm body. Even then, it isn't a sure thing for them. The person that touches it has to agree to the possession. Unlike a normal demon, Angels have to get permission. That being said, they make it extremely tempting to accept, it is what they do, and after that point....well...most people don't give it up after. There are exceptions."

At the news that Prue knows someone that knows something else about the coins, Harry arches a brow, "Really? I mean, they aren't exactly a huge secret but also not something that most people get to know about. How does your friend know about them?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Yes, and if Prue was your regular, run of the mill antiques dealer, I...might consider that. But..." Murphy isn't going to immediately blow up her spot, but she gives that *look*. The one that says 'tell him, so I don't have to?' It's not exactly pleading, but the look your mother might give when she caught you doing something. She takes another mouthful of chow mein, but something that Harry says actually makes her relax a little more. "...I...didn't realize you had to accept the possession. That's... good." Why she's that concerned, who knows, but it seems to take a weight off of her.

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue looks to Harry and smiles. "You heard of the Halliwell sisters?" Prue asks. "Charmed Ones even" she adds and looks to the food, munching away quite happily with deft flicks of the chopsticks. Telekinesis is helpful with this to a point, really. She sets the chopsticks down and looks to Harry then Karrin.

"Honestly? He's old as dirt, this guy. Duncan McLeod's his name, I know him from running antiques places in Vancouver" Prue says. "But I'm strting to think there's more to him than meets the eye

Harry Dresden has posed:
"No?" replies Harry to Prue as he continues to chow down on the Chinese food. "Should I have? To be fair, I tend to keep my world a bit small and am ignorant of most things till it kicks down my door one way or the other. Just ask Murphy."

Harry looks back to Karrin and nods, "It's an angel thing. Angels can't affect the lives of a mortal unless the mortal wants them too, or something like that. Most people just don't have the willpower to resist the temptations that one of the Fallen lay out for them."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Yeah... still best that no one touches these things, but I'm glad to hear that there's... some buffer, at least." Murphy admits, not quite meeting his eyes as she continues to dig into food between words and considerations of things on the table. She gives a slightly laugh at the 'Charmed Ones' comment, not having heard it call that before. "Didn't realize there was another name for...Witch. But she's a witch, Harry. Not like you, I don't think. I can't say I get it all, but...she's got gifts, and power... and that might be particularly attractive to a few coins."

She sets the chinese container down and gingerly gets up, going for the fridge and the fresh six pack from Mac's she got. She pulls three out, opening one for Harry, offering the other to Prue, then one for herself. Tonight's brew? A kolsch.

"I've been looking into MacLeod. Still can't tell...exactly what he is, but I've found traces of him hundreds of years back, so far. Then he'll disappear for ten, twenty years, and come back up with the same name somewhere else..."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue listens keenly and nods. "I fight evil for a living as well as work at an auction house. Which is, let's be honest, how I got wrapped up in this whole mess to start with" Prue says keenly looking from Harry to Karrin.

"So, wait, you're saying he's some sort of vampire or something to be that old or just same family, or somebody using that name like a spy?" Prue asks, confusion all over her face now. Along with noodle sauce too.

Harry Dresden has posed:
The term witch has Harry turn his head and look over at Prue with a bit more suspicions. That is the problem with magical terms and the various circles, meanings of words differ. God help Dr. Strange if Harry ever runs into the 'Sorcerer Supreme' without an explanation of the title. "A witch? Like what kind? Minor off the shelf Pagan kind, calling the corners and spouting off spells and the like without much power behind them? Bloodline? Some other kind?"

Karring might notice the subtle shake of Harry's left hand, freeing the shield bracelet from under his sleeve and making it accessible 'just in case'. "Was the shipment of coins directed to you by name, or was it that you just happened to randomly be assigned that particular block to inventory?"

Karrin Murphy has posed:
The commentary about the other strange antiques dealer gets a long look from Karrin. "From...the few photos I got from the turn of last century, it looks like he's the same person. That's what I asked him when he was here, is he some... Strange vampire, but he insisted it wasn't. I think he likes to be mysterious." Karrin rolls her eyes at the thought of it, surrounded by drama queens and she's just trying to get through the week. "I'm going to grill him a bit more. But. If he IS that old, the fact he knows about the coins... it's not a surprise. As long as, hell... He doesn't *HAVE* a coin in him and we just missed it, does he?" Her expression is all wary at that thought.

As Karrin notices that bracelet being shaken free, she carefully shifts her leg so her knee brushes against his beneath the table, Just a bit of reassurance and steadiness, but she doesn't interrupt the line of questioning. That's why she invited both of them here, so they'll talk.

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
"The coins were sent to Bucklands" Prue says "I was the one who pulled it off the truck, it could have been any of us" Prue says simply, loking uneasy. Prue's worried, very, very worried and entirely worried. She fiddles a little with the chopsticks, and flicks her eyes from Harry to Karrin.

"Same guy huh?" Prue asks. "I wonder..."

Harry Dresden has posed:
"Ok, so, then the chances of you being a specific target just dropped to near infinitesimal levels. Had the package been addressed to you specifically, I would worry." Harry says with a bit of a sigh of relief. "At least that is one good thing. It wasn't a designated attack on your person or anything."

Harry looks between Prue and Karrin, "You sure his isn't a wizard? We have unnaturally long lifespans ourselves."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
That actually lets Karrin relax a bit more as well. "Good. I'd...much rather think this was just an annoying attempt to get another coin back in circulation we got...Very lucky that it took the route it did. Something to be said for faith..." Karrin cracks a half smile, not often openly religious, but she still wears her cross on occasions and she's got that Irish Catholic last name. "Guess I'm just being paranoid. It's... all over now, at least." She hopes.

The question of MacLeod gets a slight shrug from her, "He...did not seem to imply that. He just said he cannot ever die and can only been killed in a very specific way. So... that still leans more to vampire than anything. I just hope he's on our side."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
"I can head home and look this up and call you if I find anything?" Prue offers. She's a helpful sort, really. If anything, Prue wants to figure this out as much as Karrin and Harry do, she just has different means, a ouija board, a Book of Shadows and siblings to bounce ideas off of. And yes, these two.

Prue looks over Harry and Karrin, "You got any more chicken and noodles?" she asks listening though, really, her mind is racing even though she's not the target of the coin...phew. Prue's kind of both relieved and worried.

Mostly since she's not quite a demon magnet but she deals with demons all the time.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Harry Dresden looks at the various boxes set down in front of him and pushes one over in Prue's direction. "Sure. Most of the knowledge I have from the coins is from the Church via one of the Knights of the Cross. I'd try to pin Michael down, but he is always off doing the Lord's work these days. Never seems to be around. I guess the 'big guy' doesn't think he is needed around right now." Harry sounds bitter, but he shrugs and stabs his chopsticks into one of the other containers to pull some more food out. This one looks like it has peanuts and chilis in it.

"As far as MacLeod, he doesn't sound like any vampire, but maybe he is one I haven't met before. I can tell more if or when I ever meet him."

Karrin Murphy has posed:
Karrin looks across the spread and, after a moment of hunting, passes the chicken and noodles in Prue's direction. "I ordered too much... please. Eat. Or this'll be my dinner for the next week." She gives a wry smile, but she can see the racing thoughts behind the other woman's eyes. She's had them too, the last little while. Since that coin nearly got all of them killed. "Whatever information we can get on them, th ebtter. I learned most everything from Harry here, but I know we don't have it all.

She finishes one last bite of her chow mein and sets the container aside, hands falling idly into her lap. Without even really realizing it, her fingertips idly fidget at the spot where the coin touched her. "And... Michael's away making sure more of those don't end up here. The fact that it got through to us and back to the church, well...I'd say the big guy is helping plenty right now.

Harry Dresden has posed:
Nodding, Harry stabs at the container of Kung Pao again, taking a chopstick full of chicken and peanuts mostly to his mouth, a nut falling from the chopstick and plopping down with a greasy splat on his shirt. "Oh Hell's bells..." the wizard exclaims as he grabs at a napkin to try and blot the stain out. "Well, I'll see if I can't at least get a call out to him and see if I get anything back. For now, things are contained and that is about the best we can ask for. I just wish I knew whose sigil that was, which Fallen they were so determined to get back. Maybe Bob knows...but I doubt it."

Harry stands, moving over to give Karrin a light peck on the cheek before he grabs his staff and heads for the front door, "You know where to find me, Murph."

Prudence Halliwell has posed:
Prue's not far behind having made her mind up to head out and do her own research, really...but she has a plan.

"Mind if I take some of the food home with me? I was going to save it for lunch tomorrow at work" she explains. yes, Prue does want to take Chinese into work and eat it thank you very much at her desk. Ah, Prue...when Piper makes her food, Prue's adding to it. Isn't that what siblings do? Or career driven women at least.

Karrin Murphy has posed:
"Ask Bob. More information would never hurt, it's worth the try?" Karrin then smiles gently to him, as he moves over but does give her that peck on the cheek. Well, so much for hiding things. She returns it lightly, "Keep me updated. I... might... be by later." She normally was. But Prue doesn't need to know that.

Then she's looking back to Prue and nods in affirmation, "Please, please... I can't eat all of this. I'll explode." And she sees both of them to the door, with left overs, before getting ready for the gym that night. Beating up a punching bag will probably make everything feel better.
