Date of Scene: 30 July 2020
Location: Staff Meeting Hall - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Emma finds herself with an invitation she can't refuse, but several reasons why she should run. But where's the fun in that?
Cast of Characters: Emma Frost, Cyclops, Phoenix, Beast

Emma Frost has posed:
Truth be told, every time she finds herself here, Emma wonders what the hell she's doing. The students are settled and doing well, and it's not as if the business class is a *necessary* one. And yet she cannot seem to really let go of the teens that brought her here in the first place. She carries a mug of coffee into the room along with a file of paperwork, not particularly seeking out company but certainly not looking to avoid it either. As usual, she is pretty tightly buttoned up, psychically speaking.

Cyclops has posed:
The door swings open to reveal one Scott Summers as he makes his way into the staff room. The X-Man field leader is wearing a pair of khaki pants with a simple dark colored polo that is tucked in. He carries with him a mug of coffee that he sips on, as well as a folder of student files under his arm. As he spies Emma, he stops for a moment and gives a light clear of his throat.

"Miss Frost. Rumor is that you were returning to the school. Welcome back."

Even if his eyes are hidden behind the ruby quartz Ray Bans, his brows still rise up a bit above them before he takes a seat at a table, settling his mug just so. "How are you doing?" He has that tell tale stiff back and stoic tone about him. The type that can put a class to sleep if he was to teach Economics.

Phoenix has posed:
New school year prepping to start means Jean has work to do. She's in her office with the door open, something she tries to do whenever she can spare to be bothered. There's usually no shortage of someone needing her for something. As she becomes aware there's people in the staff room, she wheels her chair over enough to peek out of the door frame.

"Good afternoon, Emma." Comes her greeting, simple and polite and not an ounce of anything more or less than a safe, neutral base line. The next face, however, is given a cheerier greeting. "Hey, Scott. Anything exciting going on out there? Oh! I'm putting in the supply order as soon as I finish it, so if anyone has last minute additions then let me know."

Emma Frost has posed:
"I appreciate that, thank you," Emma replies. He could be lying, but she'll take his welcome at face value, apparently. "I'm doing quite well--" She stops off as Jean speaks up through the doorway as well and inclines her head. "Actually, it's convenient that you're both here. I would be..." The blonde pauses, uncharacteristically uneasy as she sets her mug down on the table and moves to slide into one of the chairs. "I would be... interested... in your take on a matter."

Cyclops has posed:
As he opens the folder in front of him, Scott places five student files in a row before him, each with a familiar face. Three boys. Two girls. A sixth file is taken out, though there is no picture attached to it. He shifts his jaw, then slides it to the side before he tilts his head upwards at Jean.

"Jean." He says with a small smile. "Staplers. We go through them like cups of water because the students are not gentle on them."

Interested in Emma's next statement, he tilts his head and clears his throat. "Of course. What do you have for us?" He folds his hands in front of him, focusing his attention on her.

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey slides her way back into the office. There's the sound of her rustling in there before she steps outside with her laptop cradles and open on an arm with a mug of coffee in the other hand. "Staplers, fine. Maybe stop letting the students use them to test the durability of their classmates." She mutters while taking a seat at the table.

She looks up from her order form and over towards Emma. Scott asked the question, but the redheaded woman's face is openly curious as she waits. Things that have Emma even slightly flustered is like spotting a unicorn and Jean's all ears.

Emma Frost has posed:
"I've been offered an interesting business opportunity that I also think could have an interesting side benefit of relationship-building for ... the team." Emma doesn't consider herself an X-Man, and she's pretty sure no one else around here does either. And yet she seems to be looking out for them on this front. "I don't have very much contact with the heroing teams of the city, though, so before I extend an invitation, I thought perhaps it would be better to learn what you both know and how you may *feel* about the younger team in New York, the Titans."

Cyclops has posed:
"The Titans? I don't have feelings one way or the other. They are young and eager to prove themselves. Trained under the likes of Superman and Batman, correct? Technically speaking they should have the skill-set to be successful, even if at times their results make the news due to their affinity to property destruction."

Scott adjusts his glasses just a bit, carefully, then gives another glance towards his paperwork. "Is this business opportunity about making a building in the shape of a huge X for our headquarters?" A rare joke? The Titans have a large T building. His lips even twitch, just for a brief moment.

"What's going on, Emma?"

Phoenix has posed:
"No, no more buildings. We're already looking at a gym reno for the school as it is." Says the headmistress before looking towards Emma. "I'm mostly in the same place as Scott." Jean responds as she takes a sip of her coffee. "I know of them, but they generally seemed to keep to their side of things. Or more correctly, we leave most of the obvious press covered hero-ing to them who don't risk dragging their work home to a school full of untrained children. Well, maybe if we ever split off to be a full time team, another building may not be a terrible idea..."

Emma Frost has posed:
"Nothing quite so gauche, Scott," Emma replies with a faint smile quirking her lips. "It appears that Atlantis -- or some part thereof, the part not under Namor's control -- is about to put themselves in front of the UN and on the world stage. They are manuevering themselves to .... *politely* .... force the world's shipping industries into greener practices. The *business* side of the opportunity is that I've made significant improvements toward greener business practices with my shipping companies in the past few years anyway, so they came to me with the initiative first. A request to partner with them openly and tout the incentives that my company will receive for doing business the right way."

Emma pauses, leaning back in her chair. Crossing one leg over the other, she lets her blue eyes trail between the two of them. "Their emissary to my office was none other than one of the older Titans -- he introduced himself as Prince Garth. It occurred to me that given the state of the world, it could be.... prudent... to foster this relationship not only with my business but also with the students. Perhaps let them see some of the larger world, as it were, by expanding their knowledge to the culture and and responsibilities that could be owed to the ocean, if not to the Atlantean peoples themselves. A great many of the younger students are all about the recycling efforts and greener energy sources and such."

Cyclops has posed:
"If you are asking permission for a field trip, I have no issue with that." Scott says after a moment of thought. He tilts his head down towards the paperwork in front of him, lips pressed together again. "I agree that having the students exposed to International politics would be a benefit to them. If we can improve the optics of mutants in the eyes of others, I'm always on board with that."

He gives a glance over towards Jean for a moment, then back towards Emma. "Though /she/ is the headmaster of this school. It would be her decision. I am simply an X-Man." As in, he'll let the two Alpha females in the room work through this.

"I have a question for you as well once we are past this."

Phoenix has posed:
Jean Grey absently taps a few of her free fingertips on the table top as she mulls everything over. "I certainly can't disagree with their focus on environmental impacts, for all that they're likely looking at a long fight. Greed is a powerful foe, especially the corporate kind. I can't stop you from doing what you will with your company, of course, though I don't disagree that it could foster a valuable ally even if it makes you some new enemies to add to your list. It's certainly attracting interesting company."

"With Atlantis being considered a separate territory and not part of the United States, it may take some work to get travel like that approved in the event there are questions to why we'd be transporting minors across country lines. I'm not immediately opposed, though I can't speak for the security of Atlantis or how mutants would be treated. So I would want some of us to go there ahead of time. I'd rather be called paranoid than risk trouble, especially in international... waters." She says the word hesitantly, aware of the pun but going with it anyway.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma's smile is calm but she nods slightly. "It is not something I've broached yet to the emissary either," she admits. "It seemed a better idea to run it past you both first." They are a little more conservative when it comes to risks for the students than she is. Now that she deems that she's not necessarily going to have to fight with them to allow such an opportunity, the blonde visibly relaxes a little. "It will certainly take some time and planning ahead -- it is, after all, underwater just to start with. According to the emissary, Atlanteans *shouldn't* have any problems with mutants, but obviously that is something that will be checked as we move forward."

She pauses and meets Jean's gaze. "Thank you. I think it will be enlightening for the students if nothing else. And whatever they intend to do for this fight for greener energy, at least I will know that my own companies will be doing what they can." The rest isn't exactly on her.

Cyclops has posed:
"I am sure that Frost Enterprises will make a profit as well on this new relationship you are building." Scott says with an amused tone in his voice. "Not that there is anything wrong with that. Business is business after all. I look forward to seeing how this venture evolves so to speak."

There is a slight motion of his hand. "And if you can teach the students a little something about business as well in the process, even better. Negotiations and relationship building is a key fundamental to any business relationship." He tilts his head down towards the paperwork in front of him before giving another glance to Jean. He takes one file and moves it slightly ahead of the others, then does the same to another as if he was lining them up.

"Miss Frost, would you be interested in a project?"

Phoenix has posed:
"The world is a big place, but small at the same time." Jean states, "And with some of the students joining our team or others, they need to be prepared to deal with the people they may need to work alongside someday. It'll be a historical opportunity with the Atlanteans becoming more engaged with the surface world. Hopefully everything goes peacefully. Once you get appraised more on the situation, let me know. If things seem stable and they'd be agreeable to it, we'll see about organizing a trip."

She glances over to Scott and his folder shuffling, but she doesn't make any mention of it and instead returns her attentions for the moment to her order form. Do they need more wetsuits? Office Depot does not have those.

Emma Frost has posed:
With the question she broached resolved insofar as it can be for the moment, Emma nods slightly and actually seems ... comfortable. Scott's question brings her blue eyes to his face, though, and she replies, "I may be... what kind of project would you like me to do?"

Cyclops has posed:
Sliding the paperwork together back into the folder, Scott gives it a few taps on the table to ensure they're straightened out. He tilts his head to one side and Jean most likely can pick up on his surface thoughts through their shared link. This is a big question. He rises upwards to his height, string bean that he is.

"Miss Frost. I know that in the past we have had our philosophical differences and we have not always seen eye to eye. But, these are different times now. Now, more than ever, we need mutants to be united, especially in the face of human adversity."

"Last year when the Sentinels attacked us, I feel was a great wake up call. We have to work even harder now to improve mutant and human relations and to do that, we need our brightest and the best front and center. So, I suppose what I am asking you, Emma .. is will you officially join the X-Men and Xavier's fight for his dream?"

He rounds the table, pausing before her as his head tilts downwards, his visor gleaming beneath the light.

Phoenix has posed:
No pressure.

Jean doesn't look surprised, but then given the nature of the question and particularly whom it was being asked of, it's likely safe to assume he discussed it with her ahead of time. She's also got her best neutral face on and it's a discipline that carries right on over to her mental impression as well. In the silence between question and answer there's just the muted ta-thunk of the trackpad on her keyboard as she adds another two dozen pens to her order form, all the while with those green eyes turned up and onto Emma in a patient stare.

Emma Frost has posed:
Taken aback by the request he's making, Emma forgets to guard her expression and her uncertainty is clear. "Scott, I.... we both know I'm really not the hero that you all would like to be," she finally murmurs, clearing her throat. "My connections are likely to make you look *worse* as opposed to better." The demurral is not pro forma -- as she glances toward the redhead, a faint frown pulls her brows low. <<Jean, why would you even agree to this?>> Their carefully neutral stance with one another is pretty well plain for all to see, after all.

When her eyes come back to Scott, though, the blonde is still not laughing off the request. It's more that it's caught her flat-footed and she honestly doesn't know *what* to say. "The fight Xavier wages is one against human nature itself -- fear of the unknown. We cannot win it. There will always be an Other. And for so long as we have powers, we will be the Other. If the fact that we're not alone in the universe didn't unite everyone," she says quietly, "nothing will."

And yet there is still the sense that she hasn't said no. Something in her gaze on the leader of the team that says she's searching for something -- but Jean can tell she's not simply sifting in his mind for an answer. Finally, she asks flat out, "Why?" THe single word encompasses a lot of endings. Why her? Why now? Why would he even think this was a good idea? Why would they even want this? Just for starters.

Beast has posed:
There's always time for meetings. Or notfa. Hank McCoy had gotten caught up in some experiments, lost in his science he'd nearly missed the opportunity to attend this little get together. Currently clad in a labcoat, glasses and shorts, he cuts quite the dashing figure.

As he enters the room he provides a jovial greeting, "Hello my friends. Scott. Jean." Then there's a pause as he studies third person in the room for a moment, "Ms Frost." A smile appears on his face as he asks the room, "Is this visit business or pleasure? Or both?"

Settling his bulky body into a chair he asks another question, "How have you been?"

Cyclops has posed:
"A little of both, Henry. We are doing fine." Scott says to his best friend with a nod of his head, giving him a motion of his hand towards one of the seats. Then, to answer Emma's question.

"Why? Because you would look fabulous in white leather with a red X on your belt." He says with a straight face as he pats her on the top of her shoulder. "But also because we need someone like you who has stage presence. Someone that can step in front of a crowd and deliver a speech once the dust settles and we just won the day and everyone is looking at us with terror in their eyes. Not only are you capable in the field, but you have a way with words on top of your telpathic abilities that can command an audience. We need someone to work with law enforcement, with the Avengers, with SHIELD. Being a hero is not always going toe to toe with tomorrow's super villain. It's also about being a role model and a mentor in the eyes of the next Generation."

"Which is what I was wanting to talk with /you/ about, Henry." Leaning forward, he places a hand on the manilla folder, then nudges it across the table towards him. "Jean and I have hand picked six students to represent the New Mutants. Though I am starting to think with new beginnings, we should have a new name to go along with it." His lips give a small twitch. "You and Sam Guthrie will partner /together/ to lead in their development."

There is another pause and Jean can feel that tickle in the back of his thoughts. Almost an apology of sorts as he looks back towards Emma. But, there is a method to his madness. "I also know you really don't want to teach business courses here. The New Mutants will need a moral compass."

<< Please don't be upset at me, Jean. >>

"Miss Frost, how would you like to be their ethics professor this year and once more help shape the minds of a new Generation of X?"

Phoenix has posed:
<< Who am I to take away your right to choose? >> Is Jean's response, the words coming from her like a mantra. The other telepath would sense the underlying understanding rippling under the surface of neutrality. It's a strange world they all find themselves in right then. << The world isn't black and white. It may take a little grey to help put it on the right path. >> There's a pause as she glances at Scott before she adds in an undercurrent comment towards Emma, one that's tinged with a soft spark of humor. << And I'm frankly running low on hours to smack him upside the head all by myself when he keeps adding to my paperwork like this. >>

To poor Scott, she just gives him one of those vague smiles that leaves it in question if she agrees with him or she's going to mentally punt him into the lake. Hank at least is given a warmer greeting. "Hello, Hank. Sadly I do have to pick your brain about something, but after."

To Emma she then says, "Ethics is more important to them, especially the young students who's heads are inflated with their own powers and potential. I admit, I've been too busy as time has gone on to be able to assist with teaching, which is admittedly some fault of mine for not finding replacements, and they're lacking in the more psychological aspects of their education."

Emma Frost has posed:
Red X on her whte leather?! That's an outrage. Emma sniffs a bit disdainfully at the notion, giving Scott Summers a Look. A brow rises as she looks at Jean and makes a disgruntled moue of her mouth. <<You certainly have my sympathies on that matter -- you would need to be Durga astride her tiger to have enough arms to manage that one. Along with the temperament of a saint, which begs the question why the man is still breathing.>> Emma's mental tone to Jean is dry as the Sahara.

"Henry, it's quite nice to see you. I've been well. Although Summers is trying to *kill* me, offering me an *Ethics* class to teach." Her physical tone matches that mental one, dry as a desert. "We are clearly approaching the end times." She rolls her Aegean blue eyes at Hank McCoy. Despite her ascerbic response, though... Jean can tell that it appeals to her. For all her flaws, the children have always been important to Emma. "I... will consider it, all right? For all your optimism, I can see several ways that this could go very badly for you -- SHIELD is most assuredly not going to be happy with such a liaison, nor are law enforcement or the Avengers likely to much appreciate dealing with me either. I have begun to wonder if Jean should be scanning you for brain injury."

Beast has posed:
"New Mutants? Excellent, I'm honored that you thought of me," Beast declares as he gives a half bow from his seated position before picking up the folder and opening it to start leafing through it to see who's on the list. His eyes widen in excitement as he scans its contents, the blue furball nodding his head a few times as he flips papers.

With a look at Jean, Hank offers her a smile, "I've always got time for you, my friend. Except when I don't. But right now I've got plenty of time."

Looking over towards Emma he'll smile softly, "You'd certainly have an interesting take on ethics, I'd imagine. The youngsters would benefit from the education you'd provide, certainly. Not that it's my decision at all, but I think you'd be extremely valuable to have around."

Cyclops has posed:
"Emma, I think that if SHIELD and the Avengers wish to have good relations with mutants, they will learn to play ball with whoever we put in front of them. Mutants are a society, a community, a people. I will not see us as a minority and nor should they in the days ahead of us. This government allowed large purple robots to shoot us in the street in cold blood. I am no longer /concerned/ with their /impression/ on us." Scott says as he gives her a firm nod of his head as he circles the table, reaching out to give Hank a pat on the shoulder, followed by a squeeze.

"Thank you, Hank. I had a feeling you would be up for it. Sam has done a great job but I feel that he could use some support from someone of your caliber. I hope you like the six that I picked out. Five you are familiar with. One we have reached out to and are making arrangements to transfer to the Institute. But, each of these students bring something to the table in experience and skill-set."

As he once more takes his seat next to Jean, he gives her a subtle glance, followed by a nod of his head. "Take all the time you need though, Emma. Classes start up in a few weeks though." He says with a small smile on his face.

Phoenix has posed:
"Not to mention the students absolutely adore you." Jean says aside to Hank. "So they may actually be marginally opposed to disappointing you. Maybe. Probably not." Teenagers.

She looks aside to Scott as he sits down and nods back to him in return. "I try my hardest to stress that we can coexist with the world peacefully, but it's clear that alone isn't enough. I don't condone using violence to make our point heard, but it's time we still made it. The school obviously needs to remain secure and safe, but mutantkind as a whole can't be quiet much longer."

"The Atlanteans may have the right idea of it. If the world insists on seeing us as a separate species, then we need to have more representatives in the world to show that we aren't going to disappear quietly into the night. At least by starting with other powered and similarly affiliated groups, we may be able to build more allies willing to stand alongside us if... things get worse before they get better."

Emma Frost has posed:
<<Probably not.>> Emma agrees with a stifled laugh. Tipping her head, she studies Jean thoughtfully as the redhead talks. "The Atlanteans are taking a long view on this," she comments quietly. "When they go before the UN, as I understand it, they're intending to give a ten-year window for all shipping fleets to comply with their needs. The Prince is ... an interesting person. He seemed very pleased to not have to play hardball. But I will admit to you that I don't think they're going to have any qualms about walking softly and then using a big stick when people act asinine." She flits her gaze over the other three, gracefully threading a wayward strand of blonde behind her ear. "If you're serious, Summers... then the answer is yes. I will. So long as I don't have to hide behind Charles's preferred pacifism, I am more than happy to teach the students everything I can. And to keep the humans from being a problem." She smiles, the edge of that smile just a bit sharp.

"Interestingly, I don't think any of you have all that much problem with my *ethics*. I get what I need when I need it in what I consider the most fair way possible -- and I do my best to make sure the only people I actually hurt are the ones who need to be." She shrugs slightly. "Assertive versus aggressive. I believe assertiveness will serve us very well."

Beast has posed:
"I'm looking forward to getting to know these students even better," Hank says as he gestures with his folder towards Scott. "They seem like a great group of kids, it'll be wonderful to prepare them for tasks ahead."

With a grin towards Jean he says, "I like to think the students are fond of me, as well. Hopefully they'll endeavor to earn my approval, but we'll see how that pans out. Don't let them know, but I approve of them already."

Looking Emma's direction, Doctor McCoy nods, "Being assertive may be the best way forward for us. I'm not sure where the delineating line between assertion and aggression lands all the time, however. When the opportunity presents itself for us to develop plans for the future we need to tread very carefully."

Cyclops has posed:
"I assure you, Emma. I am not a pacifist." Scott says as he straightens up a bit more in his seat. "With that, welcome to the team. I can't wait to have our first Danger Room session together." Is there a hint of glee in his thoughts? Perhaps a little. He loves training and bringing in a new puzzle piece is always exciting.

He passes another warm, honest smile towards Henry this time, pleased of his excitement to work with the kids. "The next step is to have the four of us in a room together." He says in regards to Henry, Emma and Sam. "I want to make sure we hammer out our expectations for this group to ensure their success. Since you are not aware, Emma, the New Mutants is a small group of hand picked students that are designed to take on a more challenging curriculum. They are chosen based upon their powers, backgrounds, experiences and /potential/ to be the next generation of potential X-Men. What they aren't, is a superhero team that we send into the field."

He lifts a hand to rub at his nose to work out an itch. "In my opinion, they are the best of the best, even if they don't know it yet."

Phoenix has posed:
"Lines that are never clear, but - and I know I'll regret saying this - I agree with you, Emma." Jean says with a brief pause after, as if expecting something to happen right in that moment. A meteor, gas line explosion, someone to come bursting through a time rift yelling about how saying that eventually causes the apocalypse; but nothing seems to happen.

"I can't be out there, not yet. I try and keep a low profile to help from drawing attention to the school, given my face and name are out there as headmistress of it. I can meet with people like the Avengers or SHIELD if I need, but when it comes to dealing with the mundane humans you'll be better than I will. You already do that."

She glances to the others at the table then as she clicks her tongue against her teeth in thought. "Speaking of projects, there's one in our basement that we need to come to a decision on. Creed. We can't keep him down there forever, and I'd very much rather he NOT be down there once the school year is underway out of an abundance of caution. He's improved, though his temper will always be a danger. At this stage, I think we've done what we can, but what now? I'm not suggesting we just cast him back where we found him like a rescued raccoon, but to turn him over or treat him like a prisoner may ultimately undue everything we've done."

Emma Frost has posed:
There's a moment of silence. One might call it stunned silence. Like Emma Frost, and maybe the whole world, is holding its breath to see if lightning strikes the redhead.

No, not really. But there is definitely a speculative look to the blonde's blue eyes as she considers Jean's words. Then she turns her attention to Scott -- and it's with uncomfortable intensity. She knows who and what the New Mutants were. And she has no intention of creating a /team/ of child soldiers the way Charles Xavier did. So his assurance that they are not going to be sending the students out like that helps, though she does point out, "You may not intend to send them out to be junior X-Men, but we both know that if wishes were nickels, we'd all be rich."

There's a pause. "You have.... Victor Creed... locked in the basement?" Are you frigging /nuts/?? is what her tone says.

Beast has posed:
"We should try to get together soon so that we're ready when the school year begins, make sure the New Mutants are all on the same page that we are," Beast says before going back to looking at the contents of his folder. Then he looks towards Emma and frowns faintly, "It will be of the utmost importance that they not be used in the field. My biggest worry is them going out to deal with trouble of their own volition why the rest of us X-Men are busy already."

On the subject of Sabretooth Hank says, "If only we could humanely release him somewhere there are no people, yet plenty of game to live off of. I fear that doing that would make him feral once again."

Cyclops has posed:
"Trust me, I already know that they will be sneaking out of the house at night in their hand-made costumes, or their bumble bee uniforms and try and fight car jackers. You should have seen the last batch of students we had two years ago." Scott says with a straight face. "Though I will say, we did graduate three of them this year and two of them decided to attend college and the other joined the X-Men. I feel that our first attempt was a success."

"Antartica." He says in regards to releasing Sabretooth humanely. "He can chase polar bears and penguins till' his heart's content." There is a long sigh in his throat. "Yes, Emma, we have Victor in the detention center underground in the base. The students don't know about him and his guests are extremely limited. Jean and I found him deep in the woods out of his mind, feral as an animal. After we were able to knock him out, he begged us for help in his own way. He was losing control of his mind. Jean and Betsy has been helping him put it back together. So far he's been doing .. a ... decent job of it. But we know this is not a long term plan. The optimist in me thinks we can get him to a point where like Logan, he can be an asset."

"But let's be real here, that won't ever happen."

Phoenix has posed:
"It was decided to help him as opposed to putting him down. He may be like an animal sometimes, but we aren't." Jean looks to Scott then and shakes her head. "I talked to him the other night. Yes, just talked. He's not Logan, he doesn't see the world as something he needs to be apart of in some human way. He wants his own life on his terms, and if someone intends to take it from him then he'll go through them. He doesn't believe in living peaceful or that there is an end to the strong dominating the weak. He just intends to survive it all."

She looks aside to Hank with a faint grimace. "I almost think he'd prefer that, but he's still a man too. An animal may be satisfied never seeing another human or city, but will he eventually be drawn back in? And what then?"

Emma Frost has posed:
"Well, /that/ isn't promising at all," Emma retorts. And they say *she* is the morally gray one. Pffft. "If you've spoken to him and he'd prefer to be left on his own to survive out in the backwoods of Canada or Russian or somewhere, then why not simply leave him to it. WIth the warning that if he causes trouble, you won't be so generous next time, you'll turn him over to SHIELD." Because frankly, that makes the most sense, doesn't it?

Cyclops has posed:
"Because SHIELD will stick something in his head, brainwash him and make him into a living weapon just like they did with him the first time and Logan. I'd rather not have the government get their hands on a mutant who can't be killed easily and most likely can live to five hundred. I won't let any mutant be used in such a manner." Scott says firmly as he drums his fingers on the table.

"I look at all the mutants that we gave a chance to. Logan. Rogue. Lorna. Pietro." He gives an amused smile. "You." His shoulders lift upwards. "I want to believe in Charles's dream that anyone can be redeemed. I really, /really/ want to believe that, which is why Victor has been such a difficult decision for me. We let him loose and he kills someone, that blood is on my hands. We keep him here and he hurts someone, most likely a student, that's on my hands. I turn him over to SHIELD and they make him into a weapon, that's on my hands."

Shaking his head, he lets out a heavy breath. "There is no right answer, Emma. As our new ethics teacher, what would /you/ do. Seriously. I don't want to hear the sour wit of the White Queen. Put yourself in my shoes. What do you do?"

Emma Frost has posed:
He's asking her, quite seriously. And the White Queen leans back slightly in her chair, clasping her fingers together and wrapping them around one knee where it's crossed over the other. "You're not going to like my answer," she warns him. But at his slight nod anyway, Emma says quietly, "I'd hardwire a compulsion on him to keep him from violence unless it's a matter of his own safety or the safety of someone he cares about, and then I'd put him somewhere remote and tell him flat out this is his one chance to build a life. If he gets caught up again, it's on his own head." She shrugs slightly, not having the compunction of doing it to the man without his permission. He's a genuine danger.

Cyclops has posed:
"Try and leave that out during your first week of ethics class." Scott groans as he leans back, rubbing at the side of his temple. His surface thoughts reek of frustration as this particular issue has been tightly wound about his soul for awhile. "No, we aren't going to do that. We're not going to ... change him like that. No. Change has to come of his own free will, or else we will be no better than Weapon X, or any other shadow group."

Rising up and out of his chair, he paces a bit slowly as he rubs a hand over his face. "We'll give him a few more weeks of therapy and then see where he's at. If all else fails, we'll just.. do the other half of your suggestion. Toss him somewhere remotely under threat of ass kicking and wash our hands of it."

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma snorts, amused that he thought her answer would be something different. "Summers, you're still a Boy Scout," she points out mildly. It's not a particularly harsh condemnation of him, but it's also not where her own head is. That's why she's not the boss of them, obviously.

Cyclops has posed:
"Mm." Is Scott's rebuttal to Emma as he folds his arms, staring up at a screen mounted on the wall. "Would you like to meet your new New Mutants team?" He asks the White Queen and Henry as he glances over to them, then picks up a small controller to launch a power point deck.

Phoenix has posed:
"I asked him to think about about why he really came to us for help." Jean says, who's been listening quietly with a look of concentration on her face. "He hasn't given me an answer, yet. I suppose that answer will help cement our decision. I do have one other quick thing to bring up while we're sitting here."

"I had to retrieve Shannon from Metropolis. She's been there sightseeing, and ended up in the middle of a warzone with the likes of Superman, Supergirl, Thor, and the Hulk. Apparently there was some kind of psychic fungal spore infecting people and making them plant more. So I decontaminated her, observed her overnight, and things seem fine. Whatever this is, she said it impacted people rapidly. I did grab a sample which I have locked up down in the labs. I left the quarantine and decontamination of the site up to them. SHIElD has the means, I didn't in the trunk of my car. I figured Hank here would want to check it out. So, if we needed a reason to go have a chat with our fellow heroes soon, that'll be it. Also, I'm about to put chips on all of the students to warn me when they wander, because it just seems to lead to trouble - especially a whole team of them." She says with a hand flapped at the presentation.

Emma Frost has posed:
Emma *blinks*. "Uhh.... That is not good." She looks at Hank and comments, "Henry, I wouldn't mind taking a look at this fungus with you as well." And then she eyes Jean and smothers a smile behind a hand raised to her mouth ostensibly to rub her face. <<We have far more in common than you would like to admit, Jean Grey.>> Chip the students indeed!

Cyclops has posed:
"Fungal spores? I remember something similiar that happened two years ago that the Avengers took point on and resolved. If it's come back, then we may all be in danger. For now, any field trips to Metropolis is no longer approved, period." Scott says with a frown as he shakes his head.

"I guess we need to touch base with Tony and Steve and set up a meeting depending on what we hear in the news about this. I am sure it will cross into our path soon enough. Though, I'm not sure if I'm really comfortable with a sample being here. Soon as you're done examining it, Hank, I want it out of here."

Clicking on the controller, he launches the first slide of his deck. "Just whatever you do, take extreme caution. We can't risk an infection in the school."
