Cast of Characters: Nightingale, SpyderByte

Nightingale has posed:
It was rare, but on occasion, Shannon would venture into the west wing of the mansion, second floor. Normally, it would be to bug Sam and visit with him a bit, as he was like a big brother to her in all but last name. It looked as if work had him away from the mansion that day, which wasn't entirely unexpected. However, on her way back to her own dorm, the winged teen noted one door had been left open. Did she dare to peek in...?

SpyderByte has posed:
Sitting inside the room is Jeremy, who is currently at his desk in front of three monitors. He has a number of video feeds up on one and scrawling lines of code on another. On the third? A YouTube video of cute kittens rolling about in the grass. He has on a large set of headphones and he is staring intently at the screen with video feeds. At times he'll tap along the keyboard to write a script, then furrows his brows. It just seems like another day of spying on the world and hoping to find something interesting.

The windows are wide open as well, and he has a fan going to blow the air about and keep things cool. His hoodie is on his bed, leaving him in a normal black shirt and a pair of jeans.

Nightingale has posed:
The tech signature of Shannon's phone might give her away. It might be the flash of white in Jeremy's peripheral vision. It could be something else--who knows? Boys can be strange creatures sometimes, and difficult to understand.

Or it could be the "Awwww!" from the doorway as she spots the kitten video on Jeremy's screen.

Let's face it--even a teen in the worst possible mood could be a sucker for tiny, adorable little fluffballs!

SpyderByte has posed:
It seems that Jeremy is laser focused on the screen with the multiple videos. He is squinting at one, then another, his head glancing side to side. His fingers brush the keys again for a quick few taps, then uses his mouth to zoom into one. When he's plugged this deep into the world, he is a lost cause.

That is until he hears the 'awwww'. He jerks himself upwards in a quick bolt, tugging his head phones off as the screens give a rapid flicker.

"Oh! Hi Ssshhhannon." He says as he slides the headphones on to the desk. "How ah-ah-are you?"

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shrugs slightly, one feather fluttering to the ground in her wake. She's dressed in a very simple jeans and white t-shirt combination, and has her floofy Old English Sheepdog slippers on. "Had better days, had worse," she replies. The kitchen had been devoid of her presence, with no reports from the toaster of her morning visits for a couple days now. "Didn't know you liked kitten videos. But then again, not sure I know many who don't. How are you, though?"

SpyderByte has posed:
Looking over to the kitten video, Jeremy's cheeks flush a bit as he rubs the back of his neck. He takes his phone out and connects it to a speaker.

<< It's a kitten video but there is also a Chinese military code hidden within it. They are using kitten videos to inflirtrate the upcoming elections. I am curently trying to extract the code and then dump it into the dark web for public consumption. >>

There's a goofy smile on his face, his shoulders lifting upwards. << They're really cute though. >>

This kid is weird.

Nightingale has posed:
Smiling a bit, Shannon keeps near the doorway, mindful of propriety. She shouldn't be in here and knows it, but the company is good. "Pretty damn devious of them, if you think about it." That goofy smile has a way of bringing her own out to the fore, and even a light chuckle. Her general expression softens overall.

"Yeah, they are really cute," she replies. Weird or not, did it really matter? Weird could be a good thing.

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Are you going to stand there or come in? >>

Jeremy stretches himself out and arches his back. Pop. Crack. He gives a look around the room for a moment, then glances back ovr to her. << I think I have water in my fridge. >> He makes his way over to a small four cubic desk fridge and opens it up, taking out a pair of bottles of water. He only has water in there. Must have ran out of energy drinks.

<< What's going on? Everything okay? >>

Nightingale has posed:
Well, in for a penny, in for a pound. Shannon steps inside, but makes sure to leave the door open. Her slippers barely whisper against the floor as she shuffles over to join Jeremy by his workstation, offering a smile of gratitude for the bottle of water. "Thank you," she says, cracking open the bottle and taking a swig.

There is silence for a long moment as she considers his question, just staring at the screen for a moment. The lights flicker across her face, casting her in eerie shadows even in the middle of the afternoon. "Define okay," she replies. "What makes you think I'm not?"

SpyderByte has posed:
<< You broke your patterns of behavior the last few days. >>

Jeremy is at least perceptive enough, as well as relying on the gossip from LaToya the toaster. That's her name. She's sassy. He rubs the back of his neck, glancing over to the falling feather on the ground, then looks back up to her with a squint of his eyes. Leaning over, he picks it up and brushes his fingers across it.

<< Are you nervous about the team stuff? I'm excited. >>

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon shakes her head a little bit. "No, not nervous. It should be interesting to see how we all work together. You, I've had a chance to see in action, and it won't be the first time I've worked with a technopath. Mr. McCoy, I've trained with a couple times as well as worked with him in the field. Sam, also. Most of the new group are unknowns in that I haven't trained with them at all yet, and that will take some getting used to. But it won't be the first time I've gone through it."

As for his answer to her question, Shannon lets out a soft huff of breath, pursing her lips slightly. How to even begin to answer that one--especially knowing his own family situation? "You heard about the incident at the Met last week?" she asks.

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I think I saw something on the news. Maybe. Remind me. >>

Jeremy flops down on the edge of his bed. It's unmade and messy. Just thin sheets and no comforter. It's most likely sweltering in here with his computer on all the time at night. He takes a sip of his water as he gives her a puppyish smile.

<< I am excited to meet new friends and hang out. I don't know what they have planned for us. I'm trying to not snoop. I don't want to cheat this time. >>

Nightingale has posed:
"Exhibit of ancient Greek artifacts sort of went belly-up when some strange cultists showed up and started waving guns around the place," Shannon continues. "The exhibit was donated by someone named John Aaron, I think. It was really weird, one of the cultists started the whole kow-towing thing and treating him as if he were a god, calling him 'my lord' and everything. Anyways, things got a little messy, but nobody was too seriously hurt. I mean, okay, there was one guard that took a cut on the arm from one of the blades on display and I kind of did my thing once I was sure nobody else was going to need me..." Here, she begins to falter, her voice quavering, and her wings drooping.

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Okay, so what is the issue? Why are you getting upset for? >>

Jeremy says as he bounces a bit on the edge of the bed to keep himself moving. He takes another sip of his water, then holds it in his hands as his fingers curl around the cold condensated plastic.

Nightingale has posed:
"I know you don't get along with your mom... but I do with mine." Closing her eyes, Shannon sighs lightly, running her fingers through her hair. "It's stupid, I know. I shouldn't be upset. But she got wind I'd been hurt healing someone else again, and called me. And... hearing her that worried, it sounded like she was going to cry..."

The winged teen closes her eyes, furling her wings around her. "It makes me think, has it been that bad for her every single time this year? And just what have I been putting Miss Grey and Mr. Summers through, and all the teachers here, when they've done nothing but reach out and try to support not just me but everyone here?"

SpyderByte has posed:
<< Oh. Well. Parents should worry about their children. Mine have never called me since I came here. >>

Jeremy says as he places his phone over the top of his knee. He stops bobbing on the bed so not to cause it to slide off to the side.

<< But you shouldn't be upset by it. You should be happy that you are loved. Don't see it as a bad thing. See it as a positive and just be careful. >>

Nightingale has posed:
"It's not a bad thing... but I'm very upset at myself for causing them that worry in the first place, because I do love and care about all of them very much. And at the same time... I see what goes on out there. You've seen plenty of what goes on out there. It's nothing either one of us can really ignore, it's not in our nature." Snorting softly, Shannon gives a little flick of her wings, but then cannot help a small smile. "You're loved too. If you weren't, you wouldn't be here."

Given that Jeremy's sitting on his bed, she refrains from giving him a hug for now. But she does smile at him somewhat. "I guess on the plus side, turns out there's one pleasant surprise out of all this. Been getting along pretty well with Mr. Proudstar. It's kind of like he's taken me under his wing, same way Logan did last fall. Ever talk to either of them much?"

SpyderByte has posed:
<< I see terrible things that I would never want to see in the real world. Things that I do not think you should see also. >>

Jeremy gives his phone another squeeze as his fingers brush along the heavy duty case.

<< I am at the safety of my computer though. The benefit of being a coward is that I do not have to face these struggles head on. I just deal with the nightmares afterwards. >>

Nightingale has posed:
"I deal with the struggles head on, and the nightmares as well." Shannon shrugs slightly, moving over to where Jeremy is sitting. Knowing all too well the nightmares he faces, she cannot help but hug him, wings and all. "I have seen a little of that, though. Some with you, some before you ever got here. I'm not afraid to face it, or to deal with the nightmares after. Just... I don't want to hurt the ones I love in the process."

SpyderByte has posed:
Giving her a smile, Jeremy leans up and wraps his arms around her in return. He pulls her in for a hug, resting his cheek to hers gently. With a tilt of his head, he presses a kiss to her cheek, then leans back. << You're doing fine. Superheroes should get emotional. It's what makes us human and good people. We are both going to do great things. >>
