Rain Boot Revolution
Date of Scene: 17 August 2020
Location: Rec Room - Xavier's School
Synopsis: Containing impromptu dance offs and revisions to the physical education curriculum.
Cast of Characters: Faraday, SpyderByte, Prismatic, Cannonball, Ted Gammage, Nightingale

Faraday has posed:
There's music coming from the rec room. A lot of it. Loud, fast paced, crazy kind of dance music.

Inside, the tv is a flurry of bright colors and arrows blitzing up the screen. In front of that is Indira, shimmying her way across a play mat in... rain boots? Fitted but very rubber and very yellow rain boots. Weird. It means she has to do a fair bit of high stepping versus sliding because rubber is all traction, but she seems to be handling it fairly well even it makes her look just that bit more ridiculous.

SpyderByte has posed:
Peeking his head into the Rec Room is Jeremy after being drawn by a large number of data signals that were excited and perky. The young Goth is bundled up in his oversized black hoodie, black jeans and a pair of dark sneakers. As he watches Indi dancing in rainboots, his head tilts curiously, followed by popping a Pringle chip into his mouth with a crunch.

Heading farther inside, he glances at the screen, his lips tugging upwards into a bit of a smile as he angles himself over to a couch and settles down to watch her.

Prismatic has posed:
Almost afraid that Techno may summon a demon from another part of the house, a young woman makes her way in. Her dark hair was bound back in a loose braid. She wore a black T-shirt with a pair of pink pointe shoes on them rendered in sequins and glitter (not her first choice, but it was a gift), and she gives a bright smile as she regards the students. She didn't look too much older than them, really.

"Nice choice!" she calls out to the two!

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie comes walking into the rec room a few minutes after Alexis. He has an overly large bag of popcorn and a large bowl. When bringing Popcorn to the recroom it is always best to bring enough for others who might show up. As he nears the room he can tell others are in the room already. He will smirk "I brought the popcorn." He says as he sets the bowl down and feels it setting the still over half full bag beside it.

Ted Gammage has posed:
A bit unuse to the commotion, Ted wanders, nay, he lumbars into the room, blocking the door for a few moments before slowly making his way in. "Huh, gangs all here," he says at the gathered crowd, watching the electrical mutant dance around in boots. He ponders making a quip, but seems to realize why she might do it and, given his penchance for destroying plastic controllers accidentally, he doesn't comment.

Nightingale has posed:
Where there is music and food, there is bound to be a Shannon. However, when she makes her entrance, she is empty-handed but for her little brown bag. Her hair is soaked from the shower, her skin flushed from a lot of scrubbing, and her wings perhaps just a touch on the ragged side and drooping with exhaustion. She's dressed in two-piece pink satin PJ's with long sleeves and pants, and her floofy Old English Sheepdog slippers. Flopping bonelessly down in one of the beanbags, she lets out one helluva long sigh, sprawling out shamelessly, and appearances be damned.

Faraday has posed:
People! Indira looks towards the people filing in with a beaming grin, perking up with that semi-manic look like a corgi left alone all day and who has probably overturned several trash can out of boredom.

"Ohhey guys! Someone get up here, 2-player, I need a challenge. YOU!" She points towards Jeremy, "I know that look. You know this game. Get over here!"

She finishes her current round with an enthusiastic stomp and then takes the quick breather between rounds to head for the tv stand to grab a bottle of water and chug down several mouthfuls. Wiping off brow sweat with her forearm, she does at least think to ask, "...uh, this ain't too loud, is it? What time is it anyway?"

Prismatic has posed:
People! Alexis gives a wry grin, and in her tidy British accent she goes "No, it's not too loud. If it was, I'm sure someone far more serious than I would have come down by now. But as curfew isn't on yet --" she considers, and she brightens the moment she sees Sam with the popcorn. "Hey, love." she grins up at him -- Shannon coming in and making herself at home, including a sprawling and likely relaxing of the wings does catch her eyes a moment.

SpyderByte has posed:
There's a slow blink from Jeremy's eyes as he is called out to dance. Rubbing the back of his neck, his cheeks color a bit before he pushes himself up to his feet. He gives a few taps of his sneakers against the ground, then heads over towards the dance pads. Glancing down at her boots for a moment, then back up at her, his lips give another twitch upwards into a smile.

<< Hi Ted, Hi Shannon. >>

His phone chirps out to them once he straps it to his arm via a case. That way he doesn't have to hold it, or keep it in his pocket. He lifts his hand and waves to Alexis and Sam as well as he gives a few wiggles of his feet. After a few moments of thought, he peels out of his hoodie so that he doesn't get too sweaty. As his shirt lifts upwards, the sight of deep scars can be seen along his back and what could appear as letters. He tugs his shirt back down quickly after lobbing the hoodie to the side.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "As long as there is no structural damage we will be ok." He says and will step in to hug Alexis a moment "Since Tv is taken, want to play a little pool?" He will ask Alexis. He does raise a brow over to Shannon but nods to her. Ted gets an up nod in greeting.

Ted Gammage has posed:
More people. Ted gives a half-smile and scoots himself as out of the way as a large guy like him can get. "Jer," he returns the greeting, cautiously holding out a fist for a fist-bump. Not that he's going to do the bumping, he's not sure what the punishment is for a fist-bump related injury, but it's probably worth avoiding. He gives another smile or two as the rest of the group gathers, but he does respond, "Weren't too noisy, ah's just passin' by outside and heard...uh.. zaps?" he says. "Also I think there was some light-flickerin'. Didn't know if we had a ghost or not."

Nightingale has posed:
A wing-wave and a wan smile is given to Jeremy, Indira, and Ted, also to Sam and Alexis. "Hey, all. Please tell me there's coffee somewhere?" Coffee, and not a root beer float? With a bit of effort, she pushes herself up, wobbling a little bit as she stands. However, it's enough to make her way over to Sam and Alexis, and give them both a hug. To Ted, she smiles a bit. "Hey... soon as I can get a little coffee in me, maybe I can break out my guitar? Or another day, if you'd rather."

So. Many. People. All of them friends... even family.

Maybe the day wouldn't shape up too badly after all.

Faraday has posed:
"No promises, the night's young!" Indira says over to Sam with a salute of her water bottle before she caps it and sets it back. "I haven't broken anything yet though, but that's what these sweet kicks are for. Didn't want to short out the electronics when I got going. I need to get me some rubber dipped socks for this kind of stuff. My birthday is right before Halloween, take notes. I use rubber gloves when I've got controllers in my hands."

Swinging her arms to keep them loose, she does a little sidestepping back to the mat before gesturing to the controller on the console. "All your's, Jer. Pick a tune. Least this one doesn't cost quarters, but I miss an actual stage. Mats just don't compare. Hm, shop class project?" She muses aloud.

Back towards Shannon she then looks and grins, "You don't wanna give me coffee, but I think there's a Keurig back there. Last I went snag-digging, anyway."

SpyderByte has posed:
As he stares at the game in front of him, Jeremy slides his glasses off his nose and folds them up. He puts them on the table, then gives a motion of his hand as he taps into the game's network. The roulette of songs cycle through as he gives a few wiggles of his fingers before he lands on a specific song. He starts to bob his head a bit as he listens to the beat, then snaps his fingers as he selects it. From there, he ups the difficulty, reverse the arrows and selects down to up. Instead of falling arrows, they will rise.

The speakers rumble with an explosion as he selects it, then casts a glance over towards Indira with a small smile. He sways a bit side to side to keep himself loose, shifting his feet on the left and right arrows.

STOMP TO MY BEAT

As the song rumbles through the speakers and the arrows start to fly, the young Goth moves faster than anyone has ever seen him. His feet start to smash the arrows as his body glides side to side to keep the balance. This was a legendary song in the clubs in the late 90's and early 2000's. Even today it would be considered a banger.

Prismatic has posed:
"I hear you on that one. Might be able to add it to the school supply list in the name of phys ed." Alexis states, "-- my apologies, I don't think I've made proper acquaintence yet. Alexis Carr," the brunette gives a nod and a wave. She had eyeballed some of those scars on Jer's back, feeling her stomach turn, and her shoulders stiffen, but when he relaxes enough to have *fun*, she sinks back into 'calm' mode. She gives a wry grin, and gives a hug on Shannon. "Hey there, Pidgeon. Better after a shower?" she inquires gentle-like to her -- while reaching to steal popcorn from Sam.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will smile a bit and ruffles Shannon's hair, and lets Alexis have some of the popcorn. He will walk over to the pool table, close enough to talk, and watch the others but giving the kids some room where he does not seem to be hovering.

Ted Gammage has posed:
Ted's never seen Shannon actually ask for Coffee. He quirks his brow, "Rough day?" he asks with an easy sort of smile. "And, sure, though I think it may be a bit crowded for guitar practice, but we'll see how it pans out." After Jeremy returns the fist bump, he shakes his hand a bit, saying "Ow," before giving another playful smile.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon just nods to Alexis, smiling wearily. "You could say that. Hey, if you see Mr. Summers or Miss Grey, the sooner I get in touch with them, the better. It's... been an adventurous night, let's just say that much."

In her little brown leather pouch, Shannon's phone starts doing its little buzzing dance, eliciting a soft groan from her. She slips the device from its hiding place, glances down, and frowns slightly. Alright, more than slightly. "Anyone hears from Mr. McCoy, there's someone in the medbay that needs him. I've got to scoot and see if I can help."

Ted's reply does lighten her expression somewhat, and he is given a hug, just like that. So is Jeremy, the moment his dance is through, wings and all. "I'll try not to be too long." With that, she is out the door, dragging a bit, but managing somehow.

Faraday has posed:
Who says teenagers can't enjoy vintage things? "If we can get this for gym class, this will officially be the best school ever. Oh! I'm Indira Bhandari, Indi. New junior. Good to meetcha!"

And the music is on! Laughing on the verge of a gleeful cackle, she says over to Jeremy as they get started, "Aaah-hah, I knew you knew this game! Let's do this!" And it's game on. She's fast; the girl clearly focuses on keeping fit, but there's probably no shortage of electricity keeping those muscles twitching. For as long as it seems she's been at this too, she seems slow to tire. She may not be able to take advantage of sliding her feet across the mat with her puddle jumpers and it costs her here and there, but when it comes to bouncing from corner to corner to hit the combo arrows those boots do a heckin good stompin.

SpyderByte has posed:
There's a hint of a smirk upon Jeremy's lips as he dances next to Indira through the song. The two are in perfect synch with each other as they stomp the arrows to the frantic beat of this classic dance track. The young Goth nerd swings his arms about in time with the music as he times each step perfectly along the glowing arrows below him. DDR was always the geeky dirty secret of most gamers and he is no exception. He spent a lot of time in his living room smashing arrows by himself when his parents were at work and he was left alone.

When the song comes to an end, he is wheezing though. It's a fast song and he was showing off a bit. He gives Shannon the quick hug before she goes, then leans over to clutch at his knees.

<< Ow. Been too long since I played. I think my everything hurts. >>

Prismatic has posed:
"Hm. Well, I think that's as good an argument as I could make for Jean and Scott -- what do you think, Sam?" Alexis gives a wry smile over the back of the couch to the blond fellow, and she stretches her shoulders a moment before drawing one leg up, pursing her lips.

"I've seen the machines before, out there in the wild of the arcades. I know one of the houses my father lived in had one, at one point, but it was forbidden to me."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, a bit and says "Yea, I think it may work, plus I am sure you can count it as part of your equipment for dance class. Would be a good way to loosen up, and maybe a reward for those who get the ballet moves on point."

Ted Gammage has posed:
As he's hugged, Ted goes still as he's a bit wary of accidental super-strength injuries, but he does smile a bit at it. "Ah, bye," he tells Shannon, then looks over at the others. He's a bit lost in the conversations at the moment, but does tell Jeremy "Ah hear it's at least good for cardio. Maybe this could be yer workout." Though, at that, he does give a bit of a yawn, "A'ight, Ah think ah'll sack out now."

Faraday has posed:
In this round, its Jeremy who wins. Dumb boots.

Laughing and panting, Indira retreats from the game to fall into one of the chairs with a noisy puff of air. "Alright, I think I'm done abusing the game tonight. Thanks for the round. DDR is fun by itself, but it's all about the head to head. We should do weekly rounds, get a little tournament going someday."

She looks over towards Alexis with an expression that wilts into shocked sorrow. "What, really? That's just criminal! You barely see them out there anymore. I'd kill to own one, and a place big enough to put it."

She raises a hand to give Ted a parting two-finger-off-the-brow salute, "Night, man. Catcha around."

SpyderByte has posed:
Flopping down on to the couch, Jeremy gives a few tugs of his shirt to air himself out in the chest. He gives a nod of his head to Indi with a grin as he takes his phone off his arm.

<< We could if you want. This is the only game I ever really played. >>

He slips his shoes off and nudges them to the side, wiggling his socked toes a few times.

<< I haven't played with anyone else though. I always was a solo player in my living room. >>

Prismatic has posed:
"Well... I wasn't allowed to play it. I took many years of classical ballet training, and he was concerned it would ruin my feet. With the stomping." she replies, embarrassedly. "I was maybe... nine? Ten?" her lips purse a moment, remembering. "It was just one of those things I wasn't permitted to do under his care, I suppose, which, I'm finding as I speak to others, was a pretty bollocks concept."

Nightingale has posed:
When Shannon finally returns, she makes straight for the nearest source of caffeine. Unwilling to wait for even a Keurig to brew a cup of coffee, she finds the nearest bottle of Mountain Dew and starts chugging it. Do the Dew. It was the cure for many an ill.

With flagging energy bolstered by the influx of caffeine and sugar, the winged teen has enough energy to hug Jeremy, smiling a bit. "Those were some killer moves. I knew you were a good dancer, but wow." She does blush a little bit, her expression lightening considerably.

Peering over at Indira, she smiles a bit as well. "You know, I've never played DDR. It'd be great if you could show me the ropes sometime. It looks fun."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to the kids and Alexis. He ponders for a moment, and then sets the pool cue he was messing with done and walks over and without saying a word will take Alexis' hand. He leads her to stand in front of the TV, and finally says "Well no time like the present for a new experience."

Faraday has posed:
"You should change that." Indira proclaims from her seat as she crosses one leg over the other, reclining with the confident comfort of a yellow booted queen on a throne. "It's good to be well rounded, right? Oh sure, I guess this isn't "technically" dance in the classic sense, but where did dance come from anyway? Bunch of people stomping around a fire trying to look cooler than the next person. Think of it as returning to your genetic roots. SEE!" She points towards Sam. "He gets it. Just don't overthink it. In fact, don't think at all."

She looks towards Shannon as she returns and flashes a smile, "It's easy-peasy. Listen and stomp on the corresponding arrow or arrows that it shows. The rest is just learning the timing and letting go. Best game in the world for getting that eye-foot coordination going. Dancing with someone else is the best part." This also angled towards Jeremy. "The extra adrenaline that comes with the competition always makes me work harder."

SpyderByte has posed:
<< You thought I was a good dancer? >>

Jeremy looks amused at Shannon as his cheeks color. His shoulders lift upwards.

<< This is really flailing around and timing arrows. I could never actually dance, like, really dance. I would look so silly. >>

He gives a nod of his head to Indira, giggling as he blows some hair away from his face.

<< It was definitely fun to play with someone else. Too bad you have to wear boots. You would easily beat me I am sure. >>

Prismatic has posed:
Alexis gives a little grin, adn she shakes her head "Maaaybe another time. All it takes is one bad slip on there and then I'm behind in my training for two weeks while I worry about if it's actually healed or not." Alexis pish-poshes quietly.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks to Alexis a brow raised. "You sure, you don't want to dance dance revolution with me hon?" He asks Alexis smiling at her. He will not press her as he does not want to sleep on the couch in his own room, He does give her hand a soft squeeze.

Nightingale has posed:
Dragging a beanbag over to join Jeremy, Shannon flops down in it, wings outspread behind her. She turns her head slightly to look at Jeremy, smiling a bit and nodding. "You were." Her cheeks color as well. "Hey, I had fun that time. I don't think you'd look silly at all. Maybe we could put that to the test one day."

She chuckles a little as she listens to Alexis and Sam. "Oh, come on you two, cut a rug. You old folks can show us kids how it's done."

And the gauntlet has been thrown down!

Prismatic has posed:
"All right, all right, but I'm going to need to turn up the difficulty -- does this thing have Break Down, Dive Into the Night, or Burning Heat?"
