Two Sides Of the Same Coin
Date of Scene: 22 September 2020
Location: Apartment 604, The Ludlow
Synopsis: Jane runs into Thor, literally, and it's revealed that Thor is as good at hiding in a doctor's coat as Superman is with glasses.
Cast of Characters: Jane Foster, Thor

Jane Foster has posed:
The mass of flowers she'd gotten just after her birthday are still going strong a week later. At first Jane thought they were lilies, but they didn't match any kind of lily she could find. They faintly pearlescent petals did look amazing in the sun and cast off glitters of light across the room from where they sat in her window. Jane was enjoying a rare day off.

She was just heading back to her apartment after hitting one of the last farmer's market of the year, the bag over her shoulder laden with squash, beans, cabbage, and some apples along with some fresh eggs. With a red, plaid flannel over her shirt, she even looks the part. She's rounding the bend to her apartment building and looking to her phone's screen as she taps out a quick text message.

Thor has posed:
Standing in front of her apartment building is Thor, who is dressed in a worn pair of denim jeans and a black shirt that is far too tight for his broad chest. His hair is pulled behind him into a blonde pony tail and he has on some carpenter boots When she turns the corner, she runs right into him, a slab of solid muscle.

"Ah! There you are, Jane Foster." He says with a throaty rumble in his throat as he reaches out with his large hands to steady her. "My apologies for running into you." Though it was the other way around.

"I saw that you got my flowers for your birthday. I hope that you enjoyed them. I brought them from my own lands of Asgard. They're known for attracting the most vicious of beasts. We used to use them to lure the creatures to their doom by how strong their scent was. I hope they are to your liking."

Jane Foster has posed:
"Oof!" Jane exhales as she walks into what has to be a wall, but nope, it's warm and it's talking. "Oh, I'm so so--rr..y..." Her abrupt apology trails off as she looks up and her eyes round out as she sees who it is. "Uh. Hi, Thor." She sounds a little surprised that she'd be running headlong into him of all people, but not so much as their first encounter. And then he reveals just what of flowers those are.

She reaches up to scratch absently at the back of her head with a quiet chuckle. "Well, that's explain the size of some of the bees hanging outside of my window. They're really beautiful, I've never seen anything like them. Asgard? Like the old legends? You're really from a different place than Earth, huh?"

Thor has posed:
Nodding his head, Thor gives her a bolstering grin. "Aye. Asgard is not from around here. Though we have a New Asgard located in Norway now. I have been on Earth for quite some time, and now I am a member of the Avengers as you know." He reaches out to take her bags, hefting them up in his arms easily as if they were paper.

"I hope that you enjoyed your birthday. I meant to come visit you on your most special of days, but I was busy punching a monster that was four stories tall in it's face over in Berlin. I hardly even broke a sweat." He says as he starts for her apartment building, flashing his pearly white teeth to her. "How are thou this afternoon? You are not working?"

Jane Foster has posed:
"Yeah that's way more important." Jane agrees as he takes up her produce and starts walking. She picks up her pace to keep up with his long strides as she continues to say, "Besides, I had to work on my birthday. I'm the new resident so I don't have seniority yet to claim a lot of time off. But it's alright, I didn't have anything planned. Sandy and I grabbed some drinks next we were both off."

"I managed to be off today, so it was a chance for me to get to the market. I don't think there will be many more since the weather is changing." Speaking of which, "So what brings you out this way? Was something going on? It seems pretty quiet."

Thor has posed:
"No, I was just taking a walk and thought I'd hope to bump into you, literally." Thor says as he shifts his bags to one arm, then wraps the other around her shoulders. He tips a wink down towards her with one of his blue eyes.

Once they reach her door, he waits for her to unlock it so that he may commence the carrying. "I suppose I should come out with the truth to you, Jane. You used to know me as Donald Blake. When I was a younger, more rebellious young Godling, my father, Odin, decided to teach me a lesson in humility until I was able to mature and become worthy in the eyes of the Gods. He bound me to Earth to live amongst you mortals."

"It wasn't until I found the hammer of lightning, Mjlonir, that I realized who I actually was. For only the most /worthy/ of champions can wield such a weapon. I changed back into myself and thus went on to become a champion of Earth."

Jane Foster has posed:
Jane heads up to the front door of the apartment to punch in her code then steps inside. The security guard on duty looks up from his desk and stares open-mouthed at who walks in along with Jane and there's the covert attempt of him trying to snap a picture by hoisting his phone just up over the edge of the desk. Jane misses it, as her path to the elevator stalls as Thor drops that bomb. It's a good thing he's holding the bag with the veg and eggs, otherwise they might be on the floor.

Muttering a shocked exclamation, she says, "Really?! I was wracking my brain trying to figure out how I knew you and how you knew who I was, but no one ever quiet fit. That... that was /you/? All that time..." She doesn't sound like she knows if she should be shocked, relieved, or angry. Shaking her head, she smacks the elevator button and points to the open door when it hits ground. "Come on, we clearly need to talk."

Thor has posed:
"Aye, tis' me the entire time. Though I did not know it myself. For all I knew, I was born as Donald Blake and it is how I lived my life. It was such a boring life he led as well. Thank Odin I was able to find my hammer deep in that cave as fate would have it. Living amongst you mortals gave me quite an outlook on life." As he steps inside, Thor looks around, his hand around her shoulders brushing through her hair for a moment.

Once he settles the groceries into her kitchen, he begins to unpack them. "The flowers was She-Hulk's idea. I asked for her advice on what the proper birthday gift would be for a mortal woman I was trying to woo." He says with a wide grin. "Are thou properly wooed, Jane Foster? Or must I try even harder to gain your affections?"

Jane Foster has posed:
Jane Foster leaves him to unpack the groceries, because she'd all but forgotten them at that point. Her head was swimming as she walked over to take a seat on the couch and rested her chin in her hand as she tried to process it all. Heroes discussing gifts, for /her/. A god, waiting outside her apartment for /her/. A god, standing in her kitchen, talking about impressing /her/.

She looks over at him with that same perplexed expression before her brows knit. "Wait, boring, really? I used to work for you. Sure, medicine isn't punching monsters, but it's still a worthwhi-- nevermind. Off topic." She rubs her hands over her face before looking back to him, "So, when we'd been dating, you had no idea who you were? ...and then I broke it off because I was going off to school and... ugh. This hurts my head." She murmurs as she plants her face in her palms, muttering something about having dumped a god.

Thor has posed:
There's a loud chuckle from Thor. "Yes, I didn't know who I was. But after I grasped my hammer, I kept the memories of my old life, as well as the affection I held for you. I loved you, Jane, and I still do." He says as he turns to face her, folding his arms over his broad chest.

"And then you broke my heart into a thousand pieces! All so you can go to school and become a Doctor." He lifts his chin upwards in a faux snooty manner. "You broke up with the God of thunder and lightning. Thou should be mortified to know that." He says, though a teasing grin slides along his lips.

Jane Foster has posed:
She dumped a god who is also an Avenger. Is she the first person in history who's done that? Jane at least looks mortified by that, but she flaps a hand at him as she groans, "Well at least you know I wasn't with you because of your titles." She murmurs, not that either knew right then but still.

She pulls her face out of her other hand and looks over to him, studying his face. So he was Donald, but was Donald also Thor? How much of one man was apart of the other?

She pushes herself up off the couch restlessly and walks towards the kitchen space. "It killed me to walk away, but I didn't know where my life was going and you had a good thing going on and you'd kind of been my boss. It feels like forever ago. We've both changed, though you win by far. So, where do we go from here? Do we start over?"

Thor has posed:
"I don't know, do we? You were in love with Donald Blake. Not Thor. God of Thunder and Lightning." It seems that the Avenger enjoys slapping his title on the end of his name, as if to jokingly boast. "Donald Blake was flabby. He wore himself out walking up the stairs. I am hardly your type it seems."

With that, he gives a slow flex of his bicep as he lifts a bottle to water up to his lips that he dug out of the fridge for a quick drink. Flex. Flex. Flex. Sip. Sip. "I am always putting myself in danger. I am not home most nights. I am the awe and wonder of many mortals. It would not be the most romantic relationship."

Jane Foster has posed:
Jane squints up at him as he talks, and better judgement be damned when she reaches out to give him a poke right in the abdomen. Yeup, brick wall, but she had a point to make. "Maybe he was, but what's stronger? Being able to walk up the steps perfectly fit and three at a time to gloat in front of a press conference, or climb them without complaint even with a bad leg and help a sick kid?"

"No, you're right." She says with a sharp inflection like she was put out just a bit by his assumption. "I don't care about late nights or missed dates, I'm a doctor. That's part of the job. I don't need a hero. That's why I went to school, so I could be someone else's hero. I may not have powers but maybe I can save a life all the same."

Thor has posed:
"Trust me, the man with a gimp leg would rather be me." Thor says with a loud scoff. "For I surely /am/ stronger. If his leg was not injured, he would be able to save people a lot faster, then limp up the stairs and prolong the pain. It was not enjoyable by any means limping about. There was plenty of times I thought I should cut my leg off if only so I could get one of those robot legs that would make me faster. But then I'd have to cut the other leg off so they match."

There is a firm nod of his head at the entire idea of it all. Of course, why stop at the legs at that point? He may as well go full RoboCop at that point. He smirks at the poke to his stomach, then lifts his brows upwards. He reaches down to his shirt, peeling it up and over his head to reveal his bare body to her. His abs are well muscled, as is his burly chest covered in a fine coat of blonde hair. Scars line his flesh as well from his many battles. "Behold the body of a God! Quite impressive is it not?"

Jane Foster has posed:
No, they're definitely not the same people with him talking like this, and Jane can't help but feel a twinge of sadness at that. Grief even, to realize the man she had loved may be gone for good. Frowning softly, she begins to say, "It kind of sounds like you may have missi--"

She blinks rapidly as the shirt comes off as she's looking at a statue of a man right out of a museum, and she swallows tightly before quickly flapping a hand again. "Of course it is, stop distracting me! You were sent down to learn to live humbly, to see things through our eyes, right? The pain was the point. Achieving great things despite being at a disadvantage was the point. Maybe he wasn't as strong, and couldn't make lightning bolts, and couldn't fly, but he could still help. Being mortal isn't being perfect and then fighting, it's fighting to be as perfect as we can be."

Thor has posed:
"Yes, yes. I know all of that, Jane. I am merely joking. I live a lot lighter these days as well. I am allowed to make jokes at my own expense and my past. Believe me, I am quite humble. You should have seen me in my old days. I was quite the spoiled brat, impetuous and demanding. I would leap before I thought quite a bit." Not much has changed there.

"I still love you, Jane Foster. Even if I am not the man you once knew. My feelings for you never changed. Sure, I can find a Goddess to woo who has both power and riches to conquer, but you were the one who made my heart beat the loudest. Perhaps it's just how pure your heart is."

Jane Foster has posed:
Jane Foster gives him a scowl and the wheels are turning to prep what'd likely be a scathing admonishment, but the fight eases away as he talks and she lets it out in a sigh instead of a shout. "Hmf. Well... just making sure."

Her posture relaxes as she moves some of her hair back behind her ear. "I'm definitely not a goddess. I can't fight monsters or aliens, I don't have any magic powers, I can't even open the jar of pickles some days! I'm just... Jane, a doctor with bills and rent and a lot of unknown in my future. I have no idea how I could be someone special to a /god/."

Tentatively, she reaches out to place her hand on his chest and feel his heart beat, and there's something familiar in it. Something that hasn't changed. "Even with a 'pure heart'."

Thor has posed:
"That is what makes you special. The fact you are boring." Thor says with a wider grin down to her with a tone that is clearly joking.

"I have missed you quite a bit. I've missed the way you felt in my hands, how you smelled, how you tasted." He says as he lifts his brows upwards to her. With one hand, he reaches up to tug his hair free, letting the blonde locks sprawl across his broad shoulders. "But if you have moved on, I can move on as well. I do not wish to make you upset or uncomfortable."

Jane Foster has posed:
"No, I'm not seeing anyone right now. Not since you, actually. I humored it in college, but I was just too busy. I just wanted to focus on school and be done." And it worked, Jane's back after just a few years, but clearly lacking any social life for it. She still seems taken aback by it all, likely still digesting that the Avenger standing shirtless in front of her is someone she knew.

"I'm not upset - even if you did sound like kind of a jerk for a minute - it's just a lot to take in. I do miss what we had, how we always seemed to know what the other was thinking. We were a great team. I know you've changed, but, I'm willing to give things another try. New life, new start, right?"

There's a soft huff from her as she chuckles, "Augh! This is confusing." Then she leans forward and wraps her arms around his midsection, and it may be like hugging a tree but she does it anyway. "I missed you too."

Thor has posed:
"I am the same man. Just stronger, better looking .. immortal .. powerful." Thor trails off with that cocky grin of his. "I am still a Doctor as well, though I obviously do not practice it. It's still saved in my memories from my previous life. I remember all of our jokes and conversations. You could just pretend I went on a diet if it makes it easier for you."

As her arms wrap about his midsection, he brushes his hand along the side of her cheek, tracing his thumb along the lines of her jaw. His fingers skim her dark hair, pushing it away and back behind her ear. "I have most definitely missed you more. You always had a way of making me feel good, even on my worst, miserable days."

Jane Foster has posed:
He can feel the whuff of her breath as she laughs at what he says, "I am not going to pretend that! That just makes it worse. I'll be fine once all of the shock wears off. Besides, I uh... well, I guess you know that you were always my celebrity crush." Which sets her cheeks to flaming as she realizes she was gushing about the man to his other face.

Jane tips her head lightly into his hand as she lifts her chin enough to look up at him. "Well, you know where to find me if you ever need an ear. I can't just run out onto the field with you like I did in San Diablo, but I've got your back however I can help. Even if I am just a 'boring mortal'."
