After Work Hangout
Date of Scene: 10 November 2020
Location: Harry's Hideaway (Bar), Salem Centre
Synopsis: Scott and Jean catch dinner at an old haunt and make plans for the holidays and resolving some increasing troubles.
Cast of Characters: Phoenix, Cyclops

Phoenix has posed:
Work is over for the day and last minute plans were made to catch dinner and drinks at half past seven. And right at the indicated time, a classic car pulls up to park in front of the bar like it's done on occasion for many years now. Jean gets out and straightens the long, open sweater she's got on to ward off the evening chill, black on the outside and black and white plaid inside. It's a stark contrast with the red shirt she's got paired with black pants.

"I just realized I haven't been here in months. That might be the longest, er, 'normal' break of my life." Because being dead doesn't count.

Cyclops has posed:
"It doesn't count." Scott confirms as he follows after her once he exits the vehicle. He is dressed in a green sweater with a button down shirt beneath it, as well as a pair of black slacks. His red shades are wrapped around his head as always. "It has been awhile since I've been here too."

Once they reach the door, he opens it for her so she may pass through first, then follows after towards 'their' table near the back that the team always uses to congregate. "I let Ro' know that we would be out here. I'm not sure if Hank will join us. He may be busy grading papers, or scraping soot off the ceiling from setting his lab on fire again."

Phoenix has posed:
"It's not science if everything survives." Jean remarks as she steps inside and heads for their table. Any of the locals just know that the table is sacred territory. Jean takes her normal chair and sinks down, letting out a quiet and satisfied sigh as she looks around the familiar interior. "Always feels like coming home. Hopefully some of the others can join us, but it was kind of last minute."

She pulls over one of the menus on the table and glances over it. "We need to make sure everything is prepped for Thanksgiving at the school. I'm also being pestered to visit my family."

Cyclops has posed:
"Oh? Does that mean I am coming as well or will I be tending to the turkey here at the school? I am sure the kids will want to run that also if we let them. Maybe put Sam in charge to oversee." Scott says as he settles in once he pulls her chair out for her, then helps her sit.

As he gives a look around, he lets out a hum in his throat. "It is like coming home." He agrees with her with a soft sigh. "It feels like yesterday we were all just dumb kids, out on our first mission and coming back bruised and battered, but drowning our wounds in boneless wings."

Phoenix has posed:
"Wings cure everything." Jean confirms as she grins up to him.

"You know if I'm trapped with my family then I'm bringing you along to suffer. Besides, I wouldn't hear the end of it otherwise. They'd think some horrible conspiracy was going on, or that we'd secretly broken up; take your pick of increasingly dramatic stories. But only a couple handfuls of the kids stay there for break, so they shouldn't be hard for someone to keep an eye on for a few days. We can ask the team who's sticking around and go from there."

Cyclops has posed:
"I'm sure Kurt isn't going anywhere. He can watch them." Scott says with a grin. "Or maybe Jubilee if you are feeling dangerous. Or Pete. Either way, everything will be fine for a weekend." He plucks up the menu to take a skim of it, even if he has it memorized. Wings do sound good.

"I think Sam mentioned his whole family will be flown up here anyways for the holiday to celebrate and show them around. You know who's idea."

Phoenix has posed:
"They can take shifts. I'm sure they can handle it." Jean says with a quiet laugh. "Most of the kids will probably just use the downtime to sleep and play video games anyway."

Mention of the Guthrie Clan descending brings both her red brows to raise as she looks up from the menu. "All of them? Right, well, I'll need to make sure the place is up to snuff. At least we have enough space for them all. I'll need to see what days they plan, I don't want to miss the clan, even if I did just see them for graduation. Still, they're like extended family at this point."

Cyclops has posed:
"I mean, most of them have gone to this school." Scott says with a good natured grin. "Sam, Paige, Jay. Owen and Melody next year I believe. Starting to wonder if they got any cousins socked away that can come hang out as well for a few years. May need to rename the school to the Guthrie Institute of Higher Learning."

He leans back into the chair, draping an arm around her shoulders. "Would be good to see your family again. Maybe I can bring Alex as well with us. Feel bad for him at times. Since he and Lorna split up, he's been mostly off on his own."

Phoenix has posed:
"Hey, that's not a terrible idea when the Professor finally decides to retire." Jean does her best to stifle too loud of a laugh as she leans into him, pausing to give her order of spicy honey garlic wings and a side of veggies and ranch along with a hard cider. "They do help keep us in business."

"You should bring Alex! We can grab a hotel nearby so we have some privacy, the house isn't quite big enough anyway for my siblings when they bring all the kids anyway, it was close enough with just us and my parents. At least then Alex can bail if he needs some quiet time."

Cyclops has posed:
"Sounds like a plan. I'll talk to him tomorrow about it and see what he thinks." Scott says as he places an order for short ribs and an iced tea. "He will probably not want adjoining rooms." He says with a chuckle.

"I wonder what Logan's plans are." He says thoughtfully with a furrow of his brow. "Of course, now I am wondering if we should leave him and Victor alone together."

He pauses for a moment. "I just felt a surge of crippling anxiety stab me in the stomach." He says stoicly.

Phoenix has posed:
"Or you're just hungry because you worked through lunch again." Jean says calmly as she gives him a knowing look.

"I know we're asking a lot, but, Logan said he'd behave so long as Victor did. So far, Victor doesn't seem like he wants to wear our his welcome. So long as no one tries to get them to hang out or sit together at dinner, we're probably fine. Not like either one is going to sit down at a school Thanksgiving dinner anyway, that's asking for entirely too much socialization. Besides, Ororo and Pete will be around and it sounds like Sam too. The three of them should be more than capable of tossing the two of them in the lake to cool off if needed."

Cyclops has posed:
"He's actually been well behaved, even with his sneaking out." Scott says with a smirk upon his face. "Not that he's going anywhere besides running around the woods. He's not biting us, or the kids and he's eager to go on his first mission with us."

"Speaking of, we need to talk to Megan about yet another run in with Metaforce." He says as he presses his lips together tightly in a thin frown. "And get X-Force together and send them after and finish this once and for all. The amount of negative PR it's creating for us is becoming louder."

Phoenix has posed:
"Maybe the direction will do him good. He seems... happier, in his way, then I've seen him. But then we only saw him in the middle of a fire fight most times. I hope this works out. So far so good."

Mention of Metaforce brings her shoulders to drop slightly with a sigh. "Yeah. It does need handled, especially after that escape. I can see what I'm able to do with tracking them through Cerebro and narrow down the search grid for the team. I wish they didn't feel this is the route they have to take to get things done, it just makes the situation worse. I'm actually surprised that Erik hasn't gotten involved with it yet."

Cyclops has posed:
"I guess living in a mansion and having warm food every night can domesticate a tiger. Long as he doesn't see it as a prison." Scott says as he puts in the order, then gives her another squeeze about the shoulders. He reaches for his water with a free hand, taking a sip of it.

"I am surprised as well, though happily surprised he hasn't recruited them to become the new Liberation Front." He sighs out heavily, giving a shake of his head. "How we've all came out alive is beyond me."

Phoenix has posed:
"I have no doubts he'll tell us if he's frustrated with something." Remarks Jean as she takes a drink, washing down the growing bitter taste at the topic of rampaging metahumans. "I'm glad too, but I'll always be suspicious when he's being too quiet. Hard to avoid stepping on a rattlesnake when it doesn't rattle."

"I guess alive is in the eye of the beholder, but, the odds have generally favored us. Hopefully those keep up. But, at least I'm in better shape now to help. While I don't prefer outright aggressive offense when there may be another way, if the team needs an extra hand then of course I'll back them up if I can - even if it's just to protect them."
