The Eye of the Beetle is the Thrill of the fight...
Date of Scene:	29 November 2020
Location:	Fogwell's Gym, Clinton
Synopsis:	Detective Chimp calls on Ted Kord at the gym. Ted relays some information on strange, seemingly magical tech for Chimp's investigation. Hunori walks in and is more impressed by the fact there is a Talking and Smoking chimpanzee than by Ted's hands-free cartwheel kick. Which, honestly, is fair.

Blue Beetle (Kord) has posed:
It's been a long while since Ted Kord has been to here... In /any/ guise. Skipping a few boring meetings and stavinge off the usual Rich persons socializing he has instead has come down to old clinton, in Mufti (aka sweats), to visit one of his favourite places.. Fogwells Gym. He remembers whe he was younger, visiting here with his mentor and friend, Dan Garret, a good friend of THe Owner, another man, a Boxer, named Ted as well. Ted returned here after Dan's death, to train so he could take over over the mantle of The Blue Beetle.

?As it is later in the afternoon he is pretty much alone in here, standing in the boxing ring in shorts and wearing gloves. He may be a 'renowned' martial artist and acrobat, at least as Blue Beetle, but his training started /here/. RIght now he shadowboxes with those minimal gloves, sometimes letting lose a quick kickboxing-style kick. He's not really out of shape but he's only returned to being the Blue Beetle for a few months, and is still recovering from his grevious injuries of a few years ago, and while he is still well beyond average, he needs to shake the rust out.

And to center his mind.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp has decided to come talk to Ted about a job he had him doing, and figured Ted may appreciate a talking chimp not showing up at his office. So the detective comes walking in looking about. The cigar between his teeth, as he looks about and seeing Ted starts to head back towards the man.

Hunori Seong has posed:
Hunni was...well, here for what most people who went to a gym were here for: exercise. Why this particular gym? Chance really. Earlier exploration from the korean youth had brought her through Hell's kitchen in the midst of heroics and she'd spotted the place, that it was out of the way was all the better!

Hunori herself was currently carrying her gym bag over one shoulder, her form wrapped in a pair of shorts of her own and a deep blue hoodie. The moment she steps through the door? Her eyes were draw to the boxing ring...right up until she spotted the smoking monkey.

If DeeCee could read his mind, he would probably find that Ted wouldn't care in the slightest if a talking chimpanzee came to his office. In fact, he'd probably hire the talking chimpanzee with less worries then he would MOST people, period. But hey, Ted /is/ an odd one.

In the center of the ring, Ted suddenly does a backwards, handless, cartwheel kick and then lands on a half knee. Apparently he's been doing these excercises a while because the man looks a wee bit sweaty.. He pants a bit and looks over at the familiar approaching figure and nods once. With a faint smile. "Well if it isn't my good friend, The Magificent Detective B.T. Chimp." he says and slowly straightens up, wiping his forehead with the back of his wrist. "You know, I was going to /call/ you in the morning... And by morning I mean before lunch."

He looks past Chimp and just waves to the newcomer.. Like talking with a smoking monkey is a COMPLETELY normal thing. If OTHER people cn't take it, that is their OWN problem.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp smirks a bit and says "Well I figured about time I should get back to you, and figured catch you while you were out, besides morning for me often are after noon, with the job ya know?" He will jump up onto the ring apron and then up to sit on the turn buckle "Looks like your keeping in decent shape."

Hunori Seong has posed:
Becoming a 'super hero' had been exciting, intresting and enlightening, but there was still a lot to figure out: like how so many of these heroes did all the kung-fu-y stuff.

Like that flippy kick thing.

The soft "Whoa..." might even be audible as the young woman moves forwards, lead towards the ring and reaches to grasp the ropes. Her mouth opens, ready to ask the question of how he'd pulled off that move...then Chimps speaks up and she's left blinking. "Did...can that monkey talk?"

Blue Beetle (Kord) has posed:
Ted Kord pulls off the gloves and leans on the colourful elastic ropes of the ring and looks down at Chimp. "Oh trust me, I know how 'The Job's" hours are inconsistant." he tells him. He then looks down at himself and both shrugs and sighs. "I'm still not at my Ideal weight.." he admits. "And I'm still trying to get my flexibiliy back to par.. I mean, I'm proud I've gotten back to this point but.. I was shot in the head, B.T." he says, using the abreviation of his REAL name, instead of the abreviation of his 'codename'. "ANd I spent months in a Coma. So.. it hasn't been easy."

He looks BEHIND him as the young woman climbs into the ring and raises a brow. "He's a Chimpanzee, a great ape, not a monkey." he tells her, a bit chidingly, "You make it sound so weird considering there is a talking /duck/ a few blocks away. I mean, this /is/ new York after all." he reminds her as he leans down and picks up a towel and water bottle.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp chuckles a bit and says "Yea, I talk, I smoke, I drink, and I solve crimes. I am Detective Chimp." He offers to the woman nodding his head in greeting. He does smile a bit at Ted's correction for him "I don't normally train in a gym though." He smirks a bit as the two of them look at home here, he prefers his bar stool.

Hunori Seong has posed:
If the accent didn't hint it already, Hunni's expression might make it plain she wasn't a local at Ted's comment. Then again, it was hard to know with this city!

Then again, she'd seen aliens and monsters in her first three days in the US, so open minds were needed!

"Detective Chimp?" she repeats, another blink clearly a sign the girl was needing a moment to visualize the Sherlockian Simian in practice before she shrugs her shoulders and offers a hand outward in greeting.

"I'm Seong Hunori, or just 'Hunni' if you like."

Blue Beetle (Kord) has posed:
Ted Kord snorts at Detective Chimp. "You have evolutionary instinct going for you, B.T. And even without training you are twice as strong and a dozen times more flexible than I will ever be. And trust me, I have been known to be quite flexible.." he says.

Ted then leans down and lowers his voice so only (hopefully) the Chimp can hear. "I put those pieces you gave me under numerous tests, some  I even had to /invent/ NEW sensors DURING the testing." he says. "Each component, every single one, definitely has glyphs on it.  I'm not talking painted on either. They are /part/ of the actual construction." he tells the chimp.

"And I'm also not just talking about the gross physical structures either. The microchips In the components? Definitely custom made aftermarket. Small Batch, probably. The chip wafer is small, about 1mm by 1mm. But the integrated circuit on the chips themselves? High density. Like 15 to 20 /nano-meters/. And they are etched and aligned like glyphs themselves?"

He shakes his head. "There are no makers sign on them, though I did put their gross design, not the glyph part, against a.. materials and 'fist' database I have compiled. That means I was checking against what companies use specific materials and have specific construction 'styles' which the what we call the fist... And the only hit I got was a subsidiary of a company called CronomICOM.."

He then straightens up and drapes the towel behind his neck as he opens his water bottle and looks again to the young woman. "Pleased to meet you, Miss Hunori. I'm Ted." he says, not giving a last name,. of course. He's sorta INCOGNITO!

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp hmmms and nods his head a bit to this and says "Thanks, that should put me to the next place I need to check out." He looks over to Hunori and says in her language "I have a card if you want one, work out of a few different offices and rates are decent." He looks back to Ted and in English he says "I might have ya look into a few more things as I find out things.

Hunori Seong has posed:
Hunni was a smart girl, a critical thinker and even a minor celebrity in the E-sports of her homeland...but none of those things made her a super genius. She had -no- idea what Ted was talking about from what she did manage to hear, so the instead she's left looking a little suprised at the bilingual shift from Chimp. A shrug as she climbs up to lean against the ring's ropes offers acceptance. Why not?

"I didn't mean to interupt but...do they do classes for that sort of kick thing you did there? Are -you- the instructor or something? That didn't look very boxing-y..."

Blue Beetle (Kord) has posed:
Ted Kord nods to his friend and smiles. "You're welcome, buddy. You got my private contact so you need anything, ANYTHING, you just need to call." he says sincerely, feeling good he was able to help someone... and not get shot down like when...

HE shakes that off, and looks to Hunori.

"Kick thing.... Oh!" he exclaims and for a moment and looks a wee bit embarrased she saw that. "They don't teach /that/ here. I learned that elsewhere. They do Boxing and general kickboxing here. Not the more, uhm, martial arts/acrobatic stuff."

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks over and says "But from what I understand a man named Ted is supposed to help teach people in a gym around here, and it is a bit of a tradition for it to happen." He looks to Ted, seeming to think the man should teach the young lady.

Hunori Seong has posed:
"Oh...alright." A little frown, if only for the fact she wasn't quite sure how to follow up. 'I want to know how to defend myself without turning into a magically empowered superhero' isn't really an explaination that will not get a few looks of confusion, talking chimp or not. "Do uh, do you have a place you'd recommend then?"

Blue Beetle (Kord) has posed:
Ted Kord Frowns a bit. "I don't think Ted Grant runs /this/ gym anymore.." he says, to Chimp's suggestion... but then blinks as he sort of 'gets it' and furrows his brows. "Wait, do you mean /me/?" he asks. "I.. Dude, I can't. I have so much work to do. A company to run. I.. I barely had time to come here /tonight/." he tells his primate friend, maybe sounding a WEE bit Panicy.

Thank god she doesn't seem to have copnnected the two Teds together, like a certain smart alec Chimp was trying. "Well, they MIGHT do a self defense course here, along with the boxing lessons. And each of these neighbourhoods has a community scenter that usually has lessons. Heck, if you have no problems with mutants, I'd try the community center in Mutant Town." he points out.

Detective Chimp has posed:
Detective Chimp looks to the other detective and just pulls out his flask and takes a sip of it, and offers the girl one of his card he mentioned earlier, and says "Well time can be managed, but is up to you." He says to Ted.

Hunori Seong has posed:
A company? That earns a raised eyebrow. Fancy, but clearly she could ask another time. Besides, he was trying to answer her question!

The card is taken, tucked into her hoodie with a nod of thanks to Chimp before she tilts her head to the side. "Mutant town?"

That might be something! If anyone could give advice on dealing with superhuman strangeness, it would probably be mutants!
