Date of Scene: 14 January 2021
Location: Shannon's Room (East Halls), Xavier's School
Synopsis: Moods are lightened, and goals set.
Cast of Characters: Cannonball, Nightingale

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie comes to the dorm room, knocking on the door. Sam knows Shannon well enough he wants to see how she is doing, and even brought her a few things.

Nightingale has posed:
For a few moments, all anybody at the door might hear is a hint of bright, cheery New Orleans jazz, the playful notes of a clarinet floating over a band of brass, drums, piano, and bass. But as Sam knocks, the music is turned down, and a moment later, the door is opened. Shannon smiles, or at least tries to, and steps aside from the door. "Hey you. How's it going?" She's in bright blue leggings, and a long white t-shirt with Tweety Bird emblazoned on the front, with two vertical slits along the back of the shirt, near the shoulders.

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie offers her a hug, with one arm, has a package under his other arm, and says "Hey you, how you doing?" He offers her a smile and says "Thought I might come check on you, see what ya up to?"

Nightingale has posed:
"C'mon in. Wasn't up to much, just studying." Indeed, as Sam walks in, it looks as if one of many textbooks is spread out on the bed, and if he were to look closer, it would be math. Shannon wrinkles her nose, but smiles. "Getting by... what about you?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie shrugs a bit and says "Doing ok, been working a lot, thought about a few things and drew ya up a new work out plan." He tells her "Figured out might be able to get you in better shape than normal.

Nightingale has posed:
"Ha, anything's got to be better than quadratic equations right now!" Shannon allowed herself a soft chuckle, all but slamming the math book shut and shoving it off the bed. It was readily apparent what her least favorite subject was! "So what's the workout plan? And if it means cutting back on mac 'n cheese, I ain't giving up one of my favorite comfort foods!"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie chuckles a bit and will offer her the box, and says "Well right now, your back to normal human bones and such for your size. You start working on the muscle growth and speed now, when you get back to normal, you should be faster and stronger than before. You no longer have hollow bones, and got you the back pack in there to help."

Nightingale has posed:
"That's... actually a pretty good point." Shannon lifts the lid on the box to peer inside, almost as if she were a little kid at Christmas. "All that working out before meant I was able to get Megan out of there. Maybe this'll put me ahead of the game for next time." Pause. "I haven't heard from her since it happened... hope she's okay."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods his head, and says "I have not heard anything bad, so counting it as good news." Inside the backpack if she puts it on will add about the weight her wings would be onto her back. Not balanced in the same way but should help with the working out. Inside there is also a couple new cook books in foreign languages and some craft books in english.

Nightingale has posed:
Oddly enough, the weight of the backpack results in a more relaxed, calm expression on Shannon's face, the young woman shifting it around until it's closer to a familiar balance on her back. Tightening the shoulder straps a bit so it doesn't shift around quite so much, she allows herself a little smile. "That actually feels somewhat... normal. I don't feel so naked now." Each book revealed from the box has her smiling a bit more, and she pulls Sam into a fierce hug. "Thank you."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hugs her back, and says "I figured the cooking books in different languages might give you an excuse to work on your foreign languages as well. So, have you thought about using this to do some things you have always wanted to do?

Nightingale has posed:
"What would I want to do, that I haven't already been doing?" Flopping down on her bed, she pulls her knees up to her chest, resting hre chin atop them. "Maybe if you'd have asked me that a year and a half ago, I might've said go back to having a 'normal' life. Becoming a mutant was nothing I ever asked for. It pushed away everyone but my immediate family. As bad as things are for mutants and their families where I grew up, it could even have put them in danger. I never wanted that for them, or for me."

She remains silent for several moments, just looking off into the distance, thinking. "But now that I've been a mutant, I wouldn't trade it for anything. I don't -want- to be normal. Maybe the gift isn't always easy to live with, but it was mine. I could help those who were suffering, and actually -do- something to take their pain away. I could fly, and it was just... freedom. I could do and be things that most people only /dream/ of. But some asshole not only took that away from me, they took it away from two of my friends, too."

Shannon's face draws into a scowl, her voice dropping to nearly a growl. "For my own part, that really upsets me. A huge part of me has been torn away because of bigotry. For all three of us? It fucking pisses me off. It's not life-threatening to me or to Megan. But to Logan? It could very well be." A pillow goes flying across the room, with a harsh, guttural snarl. "And I can't do a goddamn thing to help either one of them."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie pulls a chair over turning it around and straddles it "I am sure the big brains will figure something out, I aint sure how to help Logan, but you. You can go out and spend time with your parents, maybe go to an amusement park, I know your parents don't look down at you for being a mutant or anything, but have you thought about giving them a little extra time with you where you can go out and so what ever crosses your mind, with them like normal kids?"

Nightingale has posed:
"Maybe. They're just a couple hours away, it'd just be a quick ride on my Vespa. Or by Cannonball Express, or if I borrowed one of the cars here. I can't see them saying no to that for visiting family." Shannon smiles a little bit at the prospect, but lines of worry remain on her face. "I'm still worried for Dr. McCoy. He's taking this maybe the hardest of all. And good luck getting Mr. Summers to not beat himself up over the whole thing. Heck, he helped get us all home alive. Crappy luck and a lucky few shots aren't his fault."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Well right now, I am wanting to make sure your good. I don't know how long it takes, but I am sure one of the big brains will figure out a way to put you, and them back to normal.

Nightingale has posed:
"Oh, there's no question of that. It's even got to the point where Miss Grey's reached out to the Avengers for help. I'd say between the two sides, we'll get things set to rights." She rolls her eyes a bit, pressing her lips together in a bit of a thin line. "Doesn't mean I have to like it in the meantime. So, till then, I study harder, ace the state EMT exam so hard that it's a big fat middle finger in the eye of anti-mutant bigots, and KBO."

For once, she actually does start to smile, sitting up a little straighter. "And one thing... call it weird, call it crazy, but I'm proud that Mr. Summers even trusted and believed in me enough to ask me along to help. I tried telling him that but he still beats himself up. Part of the job, I know, but still..."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "If he didn't he would not be Scott, or as good a leader as he is. You take people in the field you feel responsible for them. That part of why listening to those in charge is even more important for you kids, when your out with someone.

Nightingale has posed:
"Sometimes, though, even when you do listen to someone to the letter, crap happens. Like this time. Sometimes, stuff just happens, even with the best leaders out there, even if everyone does what they're asked to and supposed to do. And believe me, all of us did. /All/ of us."

Leaning over, Shannon offers a hug, allowing herself to smile. "Gonna be bluntly honest, same thing I said to Miss Grey. I'm a real mixed bag right now. Sometimes it feels okay, other times I just want to cry and throw things. It's gonna be crazy till this whole thing is fixed. And it WILL be. Our people and theirs are just that good."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie holds her in the hug and says "Well know this kiddo, some things may change, but your still lil sis, and you can still work at the club. Ah am all about keeping your life as normal as we can, and using this as a chance to improve yourself in the long run.

Nightingale has posed:
"Thanks. All this, the past three years, especially being here? It's shown me who my /real/ friends and family are. And I'm damn proud you're among them." Shannon smiles somewhat, looking at the books, then hefting the backpack on her shoulders. "So, what kind of workouts should I be starting with this thing on? Or just do what I normally would, except for the flying courses in the danger room?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie looks over and says "Was thinking normal stuff you have been doing, maybe adding a bit of weight lifting, maybe the salmon course thing."

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon nods, and smiles some. "I could probably talk Mr. Proudstar into running that course once or twice, see how I cope without the wings to balance me out. I mean, the backpack helps with the weight, but the sense of balance is still a little different."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Yea, would have to have got full fledge fake wings to try to get the balance right, I figured this was more just to keep your weight ratio up, since am guessing you gained 20-30 lbs with the change.

Nightingale has posed:
Shannon rolls her eyes and chuckles a little bit. "Don't remind me. At least it'll be just as easy to shed the weight when Dr. McCoy and company find the cure for the Cure. Either that or I'll wind up keeping a few pounds of it in sheer muscle mass, from all this."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "Thats more what I am thinking, you will loose the bonus weight but should be able to build up your muscles a bit "You will need to watch it not to over do it though. before if you went to hard and pulled something it would heal easily."

Nightingale has posed:
Nodding, Shannon tucked a stray wisp of pale gold away behind one ear, seeming to mull this over. "Should still be able to manage my morning runs, and I'll just have to be doubly sure to make certain I've got someone spotting me in the gym."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie says, "I know it is hard kiddo, but think about it this way, use this time, to learn and do things different for a bit."

Nightingale has posed:
"All I can do is try." Hugging Sam again, she smiles somewhat. "If this were summer, I'd suggest we go fishing and catch some for a fish fry. Guess there's always fried chicken if you wanted, or we could go for a pizza or something?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie smiles and says "Pizza, sounds good. I might have to look into seeing about building us a bbq pit out back." He hmms softly.

Nightingale has posed:
"Hey, if we're doing pizza, I'll pitch in so we can bring back enough for everybody. Pizza party in the rec room!" With that, Shannon's bounding off the bed, grabbing her jeans, a sweater, and boots, dashing into the bathroom and closing the door to change. Her voice is a little muffled by the door as she calls out, "A BBQ pit sounds fun. Are we talking wood-fired? Charcoal? Pretty much a fire pit with a few extra things so it can be used for BBQ?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie will turn his back tot he bathroom just to be extra safe, and says "Thinking fire, something with a good smoker attached, so we can do all types, Ah know we can find beef, pork about now adays but mutton is a hard one to find. They do it back close to home.

Nightingale has posed:
"Yeah, it'd be just too baa-d if we couldn't find mutton. I'd feel kind of sheepish. Wouldn't ewe?" Shannon's snickering behind the bathroom door turns into full-flung giggling only halted temporarily as she changes. By the time she comes out, she's in her jeans, gray turtleneck sweater, and calf-length caramel suede boots.

She also has a bad case of static cling hair, with her hair turned into a spider's web of crackling golden strands sticking straight out from her head as if she'd touched a light socket. "Oooo, imagine smoking a beef brisket, ribs, and chicken, and having a big BBQ pool party come summertime?"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie nods, and says "Well we got enough southerners around here we would need to put a few pork butts on it, but yea, we could do more, I mean the grill is great, but slow cooking." He tries to hid the head shake at the puns.

Nightingale has posed:
"Yeah, no, the grill is great, but it doesn't quite cut it for slow cooking." Shannon gets a thoughtful look as she slings her backpack on over her shoulders again. "Hmmmm... you think the Professor would go for a project like that? I can see pretty much everyone benefiting from it, and heck, maybe even turn it into a school-wide building project."

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie hmms and says "Possible, but think might be more a class project at most, I mean at most not sure if would be enough real estate in the project for everyone.

Nightingale has posed:
"Good point. Well, whichever of us sees Miss Grey or the Professor first, we can bring up the idea to them and see what they say." It seems having a project to work on is a welcome distraction at the moment, but enough to bring at least a fleeting smile to the girl's face. "Race you to the garage! No flying, either!"

Cannonball has posed:
Samuel Guthrie chuckles and will let her have the head start but then vaults over the railing down a floor, something he may have learned from Kurt.

Nightingale has posed:
Sam might have vaulted over the railing, but Shannon decides to slide down like a little kid, giggling the whole way down. "Fine, you take the shortcut, I'll take the scenic route." When she reaches the bottom, she pulls Sam into a hug and smiles. "C'mon, let's go."
